I love these headsets of Astros. They have 4 different modes for your comfortbility and is so clear and you can also adjust how loud you want the game or adjust if you want to hear the voice more or game more depending what you want. Now i dont have to hear my girlfriends mputh complaining about the tv volume. Just silent tv and hear everything on my headset. It was confusing at first because i didnt know how to set up the astros. But just youtube it and it will tell you everything.

I was on the fence about buying this headset due to it being on the high end of the price spectrum when it comes to gaming headsets however, it is worth the price. The sound quality is very good and the headset is super comfortable. The mix amp is super handy and allows me to hear audio from both my console and pc. It also has a port that picks up chat audio for streaming, which is a feature I couldn't find in any other headset. I would highly recommend the a40s if you play at a desk with a monitor however, if you play on a tv that is far away I would pick up the wireless astro a50s.

I have had other headsets such as Turtle Beaches, HyperX's, corsairs, and logitechs but the Astro A40 headset takes first place in my gaming experience. The sound quality is exceptional and combined with the 7.1 surround sound it makes for a very enjoyable experience. I am able to hear every tiny sound or base frequency that I could not with the other headsets. Every sound high or low pitch is very crisp and immersive. When I was using the swappable microphone that comes with the A40s my friends told me that my voice was extremely clear. The A40s are the most comfortable headsets I have ever worn. I can wear them for hours and hours without feeling the need to take them off because of the nice foam like material and light weight of the frame. The Mixamp Pro is very convenient to have right next to me all the time at my desk. If I need to change the volume of the game all I have to do is reach my hand over to the dial and turn it which eliminates the need to go into the game settings and adjust everything which wastes precious time. The cord to attach the A40s to the Mixamp has an inline mute button to immediately turn chat off. The settings on the Mixamp are not very customizable but it's nice to have for convenience. I am very happy with this headset and I can say that it is well worth it to save up your money to get these.

After doing research on Headphones I came across the Astro A40 TR. IT comes with the mixer where you can set up your own custom headphone settings. You can really feel the quality of the headphones right when you unbox them and hold them in your hands. When you put them on your head, and over the ears the quality really shines. With the mixer I like being able to hear my party chat and plug in an AUX cable from the mixer to my computer so I can watch streams, youtube, or just play music from iTunes. My voice through party chat has never sounded more clear. The microphone has a way to reduce outside noise so your chat party doesn't need to be bothered with dogs barking, or your friend, family, or significant other watching TV in the next room. If you can spare the money I suggest you buy these headphones over turtle beach or any other gaming headset.

Up to this point the best headset Ive owned was a $60 pair of turtle beaches. So when i moved to PC gaming i knew i needed an upgrade. I was urged by a friend to make this purchase and my god these are amazing. The quality matches the price tag and i know i cant say that about a lot of $300 headsets. They are great out of the box but if you can spare the extra cash i would definitely grab a mod kit for them. The mod kits are totally worth the money as they make the headsets noise canceling and its amazing.

The Astro a40 mic isn't the best cause it always lags, my friends always tell me that my mic is lagging. This mic is 300$ and the mic lags. This is very unprofessional.

Best bang for the buck, I say it is a bit pricey, but the build quality feels plastic on the handle but the ear muffs feels premium with well built quality, it is quite comfortable on the ears and on the top, but wearing it for long gaming sessions. it not soo bad. well depending on how your head is shape. I like the fact it comes with a mixamp to control the volumer and have surround sounds. But i don't think it worth the extra hundred bucks. compare to the headset by itself you can get it cheaper. Gold and blacks looks awesome on this headset. for about 50 bucks more you can get wireless. But i choose to stick to wire to have consistent feedback and sounds. plus the worry free battery. I mean if you are gaming in one spot, but if you gonna get up to get a snack then yep, you have to take them off. the cord are pretty reasonable, i'm guessing 6 ft or 7 ft from ps4 to the mix amp and the aux cord to your head set is probably 4ft. just guessing. Overall good headset from a popular headset company astro. recommendation, if you have the money go for it, if you don't go look somewhere else. but in terms of wireless or wired. i choose wired for stability and less expensive than wireless brand

I've owned many gaming headsets over the years of many brands. Turtle Beach, Tritton, Logitech, Sony, Sennheiser, and older models of Astro headsets to name a few. As far as console gaming is concerned, Astro A40 TR edition are the top dog. Sound Quality and Build quality far surpasses any model you'll find of the other big names for console headsets(Turtle Beach and Tritton). This is a very sturdy headset and extremely comfortable headset. The customization of the Mix Amp Pro is also an awesome feature that can help dial in the headset to get maximum effectiveness, especially in FPS and other shooters. You can hear every little nuance in the game and hone in on footsteps to track your enemy. As someone who plays on multiple consoles and PC, there isn't much competition when looking for a headset that works well across all platforms. If you have the money, these are definitely worth it.

MixAmp Makes the Purchase Worth It

This review is more about the MixAmp included rather than the actual headset. The MixAmp is hands down one of the most valuable items if you have multiple systems/components, especially if you also own a Nintendo Switch. The MixAmp allows me to get game and chat (no wire to PS4 controller) while also get game audio from my switch (via a 3.5 cable). This is crucial if you want to chat with people while playing the Nintendo Switch. You could also do this with discord on your phone or PC. The MixAmp allows me to fine tune chat/audio mix in game as well as master volume. I’d give the MixAmp a 9/10. Now to the headset. The best part that I don’t see mentioned much is the headsets modularity. By this I mean the microphone can be put on either side, the ear cushions and head cushion can be replaced, and you can also replace the side covers for a semi closed headset. This is an awesome feature I’d say you prefer the mic on the left rather than th right. Another amazing feature (if you love a clean desk setup) is that the headset cable is detachable. Coming from a wireless headset, this is great to have to put the headset up when I’m done. Overall I’d give the headset an 7.5-8/10. Comfort is 7.5-8, audio is 7.5-8 (MixAmp is really what makes this).

    Technical Review Of Headset

Ok, so hopefully this will be a thorough review for those of you wondering about this headset. I did a ton of research before purchasing and may answer some of the question you have. First, let me start by stating that Best Buy has mislabled this item. It is actually the A40TR not the A40. The picture and the model number both are of the TR version, which is newer, however the listing that Best Buy has is of the A40. If you are wanting the TR version, which I did when purchasing, please note you are getting the newest version even though Best Buy mislabeled it. Second, let me note that this headset requires the mixamp. If you are thinking of getting just the headset you would need to find some way to adapter the single 3.5mm to both headphones/mic for pc. I did not have a spliter handy so I could not test to see if it works. That said I did just try to plug directly into the headphone out on the pc and could not hear anything. As for the headset itself, I will break it down into a few different categories below and rate each one. Comfort- 10/10 - This is definitely the nicest feeling and most sturdy headset I have ever purchased. Previously I was using a Razer Kraken Pro and after a few hours my head would hurt from the pressure and it felt like my ears were going to melt from the heat. I switched to the A40TR and immediately felt the difference. After 3-4 hours my head doesn't hurt and my ears aren't hot. Sound - 10/10 - The sound on this headset is absolutely incredible. I am hearing sounds in games I never heard before. It is most noticeable in FPS games. Sounds are clear and distinct without any distortions. Connectivity - 8/10 - So yes the mixamp does what it should and connects to my PS3 and PC. PC via 3.5mm and PS3 via optical. That said, the transition between the two definitely isn't seamless. That might be because of the software, which I will address next. Going from PC to PS3 has no issue, but going back to PC often doesn't work and I have to power recycle the mixamp to hear the sound again. Definitely not a defect in my unit as I had the same issue in 2 different ones. Software - 2/10 - This software is flat garbage. It is almost as bad as their support, which I will get to next. It frequently crashes, has numerous issues with firmware prompts (which I turned off), and has very little customization. The tournament sound mode is by far the best all around. Other than that the software is just intrusive and annoying. The frustrating part is that the headset/mixamp don't work without the software being installed and open. Support - 0/10 - Ok, so as an IT Tech I have dealt with difficult and frustrating support before. In fact, I deal with it on an almost daily basis. That said, Astro sets a new low in their assistance. I contacted support, which by the way can only be done by email (I wonder why), and received a response to my email within a day. The time was respectable but the email was a literal copy and paste of their website, which wasn't even related to my email. The next email was also a copy and paste of their website. On the third email his solution was to send the headset in for repair. I told him there was nothing wrong with the headset and that the issue was their horrible software. He said that was the only solution available. I took the headset back to the store and exchanged it for another one. Same issue. I responded that I replaced it with another one and had the same issue. He said I should sent that one in for repair. Clearly their support team has no clue what they are doing. Don't expect any help from them. Overall the hardware is incredible. The software is pretty bad but is functional. If you are good with handling equipment then feel free to purchase it. Just don't expect any support or help from them.

Pros: Sound Quality, Customization, Amount of Features, No Batteries Con: Cost This mixamp and headset together are the best that you can get for gaming, and I've tried alot including; Astro a40 (2013, 2015) ps gold, turtle beach stealth 500p ,elite 800x and tritton ax pro. The 7.1 SS works so perfect you can hear every direction with no problem pin pointing it . I was taking enemies out through the wall on Rainbow Six Seige before they could even make it to the doorway! The ability to fine tune customize the mixamp equalizer on your computer is awesome. They even have a dedicated forum for it http://forums.astrogaming.com/index.php?forums/mixamp-pro-tr-custom-eq-presets.60/ Just buy this headset you won't be disappointed!

I love the fit of the headphones. They are very comfortable while hours of playing Call Of Duty. When I got the headphones I had the PS3 and not even a month later I upgraded to PS4 which was great that it's compatible to both. Very simple to pair for the PS4 I didn't do much on the settings. I have tried the 50 before and I was not crazy about the sound because I have hearing problems on my left ear. I have control of the sound even though it's wired. I am glad I got these headphones. No regrets. I know many ask me why downgrade from the 50 to the 40 but sound quality is much better for me. I hear my teammates and the enemies very clear.

I mostly play Call of Duty and wanted to update my Turtle Beach EarForce Delta headset from 2011. I sit rather close to the PS4 and play on a 1 ms gaming monitor for fast response to my movements. I heard that Astro a40 TR was the official headset of Black Ops 3 so I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did because the sound is amazing. The best part is that I was able to hook it up to my MacBook Pro and change the equalizer settings and save them to the Mix Amp Pro TR that comes in the box. You can change up to 4 settings on the fly by pressing the equalizer button on the MixAmp Pro TR. The headset is really comfortable. This fits my head better than the 2nd Gen a50 headset. I wear glasses so this works by not squeezing my ears too tight. Also you can use other headsets with the MixAmp Pro TR. Any Headset that uses a 3.5mm jack will work. Overall I am happy with my purchase and believe that the price was reasonable compared to other choices available.

You can't go wrong with astro a40, the sound is amazing. The mix amp TR is customizable and the quality of these headphones just beat all others. I've owned everything from triton and turtle beach. Astro wins by far. A40 is the way to go because A50 wireless has a built in mix amp so you have to replace entire unit rather than separate peices with the 40.

I was looking to replace some turtle beach headphones for my ps4. I stumbled upon these ones and had best buy price match them with some I found on amazon for $180. These headphones are unreal and I'm extremely happy with them. I use them for producing music, pc gaming, ps4 gaming, etc. I've had many gaming and studio headphones, and I've never come across headphones this comfortable and sound as good as these. Highly recommend them to anyone on the fence! If I could go back, I'd probably get the wireless ones, but these are phenominal headphones!

This is a must have. I try through three types of headset. The first were the pulse elite and break easily. The second were turtle beach 500p also break easily. Thrid were ps gold wireless. These batteries life sucks. Astro A40 TR are great sound quality and great if you plan to stream online. You can hear everything including the direction of enemies footsteps. There customization software for your own sound preference. It's worth the price. Specially when I been through two headset that cost me $129.99 each and then ps gold $99.99. Great build quality doesn't feel cheap.A40 TR is worth the wait to save up.

If you are planning to buy a 300$ headset buy these don't trust turtlebeach. I was A big fanatic of turtle beach but they don't focus on there headset as much as they did back then. The turtle beach 800x dissapointed me for a 300$ headset. This headset sound and comfort is beautiful. The astro a50 and a40 are the same only that these are wired and a50 are wireless, the wiring is not a pain unless you are 10 feet from your tv and their is people walking in front of you. Also you can change the Hz of the amplifier, which means you can change the bass or sound from your computer. You can also lower your annoying friends voice when they are loud and you trying to focus. You can lower your friends and your game volume at the same time.
