Decent Robot Vac with Flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Robot Vac from ECOVACS is a decent little machine. Comes out the box ready to go, just plug in the charging base to the wall, assemble the included brushes and install the battery. Hit the auto button and the vacuum is good to go on its way. It does a fairly decent job, suction wise, of picking up what it needs to. It has no issues climbing over edges or trim to get from one room to another. My main issue is this, like others have mentioned. The smart functionality of this unit seems pretty limited. IF you have never used a robot vac, then you most likely would not even notice, and be very satisfied with the DEEBOT. BUT, if you have used other units, you will notice the difference. The Samsung powerbot which I have also reviewed is way more intuitive, and senses objects and tracks better paths. This DEEBOT seems to just crash into things (coffee table comes to mind!), before realizing it needs to turn around and go a different way. Also the mopping feature is a little weak. I think this should just focus on being a better vacuum. Overall its a decent cleaner and will do the job, but if you are looking for something top notch, I would look elsewhere.

Outstanding!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned 5 different vacuuming robots over 3 brands, and I have not met one as good as this one Why is it so good? I cleans super well. It is very quiet. It can wet mop the hardwood floor. And it NEVER gets stuck! All the other ones got stuck in thick pile, ridges between room and under furniture. This one roams free all night and all I have to do in the morning is to remember to empty the bin The bluetooth is a nice feature, but the remote works so well, you don't even need it Well done Ecovacs!

Nice vacuum with great app, Alexa and WiFi support
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great vacuum for the those who like to use technology. The DEEBOT works with your Wi-Fi to let you schedule, control and monitor your DEEBOT through the Ecovacs smartphone app. With the app you can control you DEEBOT at home or away. The app allows you to schedule or start automatic cleaning. Schedule daily or weekly cleanings at anytime of the day and at different times each day. It allows you to select cleaning modes, cleaning path based on floor type and where you want the robot to clean in certain places along with batter life. All of this from your phone which I found to be awesome. It is also Alexa enabled so using an Amazon Echo you can ask your DEEBOT to start cleaning, stop, charge, etc for when you don’t have your phone near you. I have two boys, two cats and we heat our house with a wood burning stove so there is always lots of crumbs, dried cat food, leaves, grass, dirt and wood debris in the house. We have carpet, tile, wood floor and linoleum floors. I was pleased with the DEEBOT. The DEEBOT comes with a V shaped main brush that helps lift more of the carpet which cleaned the carpet better. There is also a direct suction function too which gives you tangle free suction. The DEEBOT lets you choose what time of cleaning to use Brush or direct suction which I found to be very useful since our house has so many different types of flooring. I felt that the DEEBOT worked better on the hardwood floor and tile than carpet. If you let the DEEBOT go over the carpet several times it will do a better job, but it means it is running longer. My only con is that it does not come with any type of mechanism to stop it from entering in another room. I would recommend the DEEBOT if you have more hardwood and flooring than carpet and especially if you like to be able to control your vacuum schedule and especially when you are not home this is a great vacuum cleaner.

Good Performance. Long Cleaning Times.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned and tested different robotic vacuums from Shark to Roomba. This ECOVACS company is new to me so I did not have any expectations. Upon opening the box I can see everything has been packed very well and the vacuum itself looks sleek and compares well with the competition. An included remote or a downloadable app allows scheduling, cleaning jobs and return to base. The suctioning and cleaning performance is good but it needs to run over areas multiple times for optimal cleanliness; this leads to more battery usage. The battery life is quite good. We have cats and the M81Pro does a pretty decent job picking up their hair. The wet mopping feature is ok but the problem is no option to prevent the wet mopping of our rugs which are scattered around. You simply fill up water tank with included cup plus mopping brushes are machine washable. Overall the M81Pro’s cleaning coverage could be better plus I wish their are options to prevent mopping of certain areas. It is a pretty decent robotic vacuum and this company seems to have potential in a very competitive vacuum market.

Very Smart Vac, I worry about losing Remote
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ecovacs Deebot M81 Pro was an interesting vacuuming robot. Perhaps its best feature is it came with a hand-held remote control. What was real fun was you could direct the robot with it, however as I was doing this I was almost thinking it would be easier to push a hand-held vacuum if I'm going to 'drive' it like this. The remote is also a slight negative, because they opted not to include these same features directly on the robot itself (for example, it's easy to start the robot by pressing the auto button on the robot, but without the remote, getting it to 'spot clean' or 'go home' -- features it has on the remote - are difficult to figure out without perhaps reading the manual. I can imagine misplacing the remote and getting frustrated. True to its "Eco" name. I noticed it seemed to turn on and off features when it thought It needed them, for example, you could hear the suction coming on and off, or one or the other of the spin brushes would start and stop spinning one at a time. This would seem to be a battery saver, and I would expect it to have better battery life as a result. However, I am concerned that maybe without the always-on suction it perhaps isn't cleaning as well (it's difficult to know with the limited time I have to write a review). Perhaps I am wrong and it is detecting every ounce of dirt and properly turning on and off when needed. I am very hesitant to try the mopping feature on a laminate floor, as there is the potential to damage the floor when it is wet. I personally was not interested in the App-Control features, as I've read of negative privacy issues with other brand vacuum robots when they are connected to Wi-Fi and did not want to connect this one as a result.

Alexa & Deebot can do my Vacuuming now
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What's in the box ----------------- 2 sets of side brushes Charging dock Direct suction & main brush options ECOVACS DEEBOT M81Pro High efficiency filter Remote with batteries Wet/Dry mop cleaning clothes Build Quality ------------- It looks to be well made with nice Gray and black plastic accents. No issues there. Even if it falls off the stair (wont happen as there are sensors) it will survive the fall Assembly -------- Setup was quick pretty much out of the box and get running, a breeze. Connetivity ---------- you can connect it to the wifi network and have your phone connect to the deebot and you can use the App to control the deebot like scheduling automatic cleaning, setting up cleaning modes (Spot, Edge etc). It also comes with a remote which you can use instead of the app.it works with Alexa! So if you have Alexa in the room and you want Deebot to start cleaning, just ask "Ask deebot to start cleaning". Functionality ------------- **Note this vacuum is meant for Low-pile carpet or Tile/Wood floor** I have a couple of Vacuum cleaners, One which i use on the first level which is 50% Tile and 50% hardwood. And it is not at all at the same level, so it will be a good test of the sensor not to fall off to the next level. I do use a light weight vacuum to clean up my first level and i have never used a robo vacuum and always used manual vacuum and my comparison will be against that. Firstly i tried the vacuum against the tile floor, the tile floor covers the kitchen and hence it really gets sticky and dirty. the vacuum spend more time on the tile than on the wood floor, it did manage a fairly decent job on the tile floor. I did put some of the heavier stuff like gummy bears and the vacuum was able to pick it up easily. I setup the vacuum to go off at 11pm when we retire to bed to clean up the kitchen , dining area and foyer and i was pleaseantly surprised at the outcome. So the Deebot actually vacuumed, moped and dried and all 3 combined was better than the vacuuming alone. Again, the area was not that big, so it was an achieable feat for the robo vacuum I think i am starting to like it, not have my wife complain that i dont vacuum the floor, i can have Alexa & Deebot do it for me!

It's ok for what it is
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The DEEBOT M81 is an entry-level robot that tries to set itself apart from the competition by adding features but it unfortunately omits some of the biggest necessities on its way and misses the mark on some basic operations. First off, I love the look and feel of the M81. It’s sleek and seems well built. However, shortly after unboxing, I started to realize this little guy wouldn’t be a breeze to get up and going. For some strange reason, Ecovacs decided not to build in support for 5 gHz wi-fi signals. During setup, I kept getting errors and failures based on wi-fi issues. I had to go into the settings for my Velop to shut off the 5 gHz band before I could get the setup completed. This is an issue that shouldn’t be necessary in today’s exploding market of smart devices, especially in the case of one that’s supposed to be simple and save me time like this bot. Anyway, after setup the vacuum worked basically like my old bot that is used upstairs. It zigs and zags and usually misses spots and gets itself hung up on stuff. Remember, even though robotic vacuums have been out for a while, the technology is still in its infancy (and don’t expect cleaning performance on par with your normal vacuum as that’s really not what these things are designed to do). The obstacle detection sensors on this bot are far and away worse than on my competitive model though. Sometimes it will slow down and barely touch an item while the next time it will slam into the same object at ramming speed. Unlike competitors, no virtual barriers are included (nor could I find any to purchase) so if there’s somewhere you don’t want to be vacuumed, start building your own. This bot uses dual rotating brushes which dies seem to help it pick up more dirt and debris. Unfortunately, that also doubles the chances of it catching a cord, curtain or bed skirt and getting itself hung up. One of the features I was excited about was the ability of this machine to mop. Having a dual-role machine is substantially better than having a dedicated vacuum and separate mopping robot. If Ecovacs could pull it off, that truly would put this machine in a class above. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. The machine doesn’t really “mop” anything, it simply runs a dampened cloth around in its wandering pattern. The built-in reservoir holds enough water for 10 minutes or so of running around. Remember that part about no virtual barriers? Yup, when in mopping mode you will likely end up with a damp rug or part of your carpet. And the suction from this machine is nowhere near enough to pull that moisture back out so you will be forced to get out another cleaning utensil of some sort to clean up the soggy mess your “helper” left behind. While the included remote is a neat add-on, I simply do not want or need another tiny remote to keep up with. Since the bot is app controlled, I think the remote is a gimmick at best and a waste at worst. The M81 is not all bad. For an entry-level machine, it does an admirable job at vacuuming. Once it’s set up, programming to clean at specific times is relatively painless. It is substantially quieter than other machines in this segment and the dust collection bin is larger. Run times are about average and it will return “home” to recharge when it senses the need (although watching the return process can be comical since there is no GPS mapping feature on lower-end bots). Perhaps a software update can remedy the sensor issues and adding the ability to use virtual barriers would improve the usefulness greatly. Until then though, I wouldn’t recommend this machine as there are others on the market at this price point that don’t have these issues.

Impressive Technology
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a competitor brand robotic vacuum over the past few years. Over the past year, it seemed to forget how to negotiate around furniture and other obstructions on the floor and didn't do a thorough job of vacuuming the floor. I read some reviews on the Ecovacs and wanted to try it out. There was a definite difference in the quality of this vacuum. It's more solid, more powerful, does a great job of vacuuming both carpet and wood flooring...and is quieter than the competitor brand. The setup with the app was easy. The user experience with the app was intuitive as I didn't need any additional instructions on how to start using the vacuum. This is a quality device and shows how far robotic vacuums have come.

Cleans well. App needs some work.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Deebot M81 is good robotic vacuum. It cleans well and is easy to set up. Comes with an extra filter and cloth (for wet cleaning mode). Out of the box everything is very straight forward. You plug in the charger and put it up against a wall. Install the battery and place it on the charger for a few hours. To have it clean simply push the auto clean button on the device or the remote that comes with the Deebot. It cleans well, doesn't have issues transition between floor types and works just as well as my Roomba. As long as you clean up the cords and other small things the Deebot shouldn't have any issues cleaning your home. You can also use the app which will give you the most functionality. However, this is where I have a problem. I own a Roomba app controlled robotic vacuum and set up with that app was very easy and fluid. With the Deebot, not so much. They stress that you have to turn off the 5 ghz band on your router in order to get the Deebot to connect to your router if it has dual bands, which mine does. A pain for sure but I went along with it and disabled the 5g on my router AFTER spending an hour trying to get the app to work. Once I disabled it, the app connected quickly. Great! The instructions state you can then re-enable 5ghz on your router which I did since we use that band frequently. Well, as soon as enabled it my home network stopped communicating with the Deebot. After another hour of messing with my router and attempting to connect the Deebot I just gave up. I have a Linksys Velop router and have never had issues connecting other smart things to my network. I imagine others may not have this issue, but I certainly did. It shouldn't be this difficult to connect a smart device in 2017 and you shouldn't have to go into router settings to connect it either. This has been the only device of many that I haven't been able to get working properly with my home network. They could have done a better job in the programing department to make this connect to dual band routers without messing with the settings. Deebot quality and cleaning ability get a solid 9 App functionality and ease of use get a big 0

functional vacuum with some big flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a while now, we've been wanting a robo-vacuum. In the past, Roomba was your only, albeit costly, option, but thankfully nowadays there are numerous clones that supposedly do a good job. Enter the Deebot. Aesthetics: Looks like every other robo-vacuum. Squat cylinder with pull-up dustbin. Muted gray with black accents. Looks sleek. Controls: Easy enough, use the power button on the Deebot itself or use the remote to program the vacuum. Functionality: Now this is where the Deebot falls short. The suction strength on the Deebot is more than adequate to handle standard carpet. However, the navigational capabilities of the Deebot are pretty dismal - and really frustrating to watch. For better or worse, as there's been some controversy about Roomba's [not so] secretly saving their maps of your house, and iRobot now selling their stockpiles of home blueprints, the Deebot doesn't use smart navigation. Instead, it uses a series of crisscrosses to theoretically cover the entire space. In reality, however, this means if there's any obstacle at all, or god forbid, an obstacle course of toys left out on the floor, through random pingponging, the Deebot can end up missing large portions of the floor because it'll keep trying to either 1) circle around the perceived obstacle or 2) turn around and then proceed on its "Z" path around the rest of the room. Not only does the random Z lead to missing portions of the room, it also means Deebot can end up repetitively vacuuming the same patch of floor/carpet because it keeps bouncing at the perfect angle off a section of wall+toy+couch leg. So in summary, when it reaches where it needs to go, Deebot will vacuum pretty darn well. The problem is it can often get lost in the path. Heck, just to test it, I hit the "home" button to signal for Deebot to return to its charging base, and from my living room to the kitchen, Deebot kept zigzagging underneath the kitchen table and spent literally 20 min navigating the 3 ft over to the charging base. SO, if you don't have a lot of toys lying around that might confuse the Deebot, then the cost-savings is probably going to be worth it over a much more expensive Samsung or Roomba. However, if you're, like us, hoping to use the Deebot to clean your house in the aftermath of a curious toddler leaving his stuff everywhere, then having to tidy up the toys every single time you want to use the Deebot is going to be more frustrating than anything. YMMV.

Deebot M81Pro Robot Vac
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Robot Vacuum and I'm very impressed. It was quite easy to set up and get working out of the box. It did require 4 hours to fully charge, but once charged, it seemed to work very well. It will slow down before hitting any solid objects, but it does have trouble with things like wire baskets or chair legs, but that is not unreasonable. I have mostly hardwood and ceramic tile floors and it does a nice job on them. I have a few low pile area rugs and it works fine on some, but can't seem to go over my hallway runner. It goes right over my transition strips without missing a beat. It does stop at the edge of my stairs, so no problem there. The only real problem I have is that it gets stuck under my couch, but that is because my couch is too low. It needs a minimum of 3" clearance. I don't use the timer function since it does get stuck under my couch, but I don't see a problem since I would know where to find it if it wasn't charging on the base. It is handy when you have a dry spill and want to use the robot. Just use the remote to drive it to the location and hit the spot clean button and it will go to work on the spot making circles. If you are looking for a Robot Vac, I would highly recommend this one.

Works well, but gets stuck a lot
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This robotic vac has some nice features. The mopping feature is nice and the smartphone app is full-featured. However, my experience with the Deebot M81 Pro has not been positive. I put it in my bedroom and it got stuck 3 times and didn't complete the job. Once on the leg of an IKEA birch armchair, once when it wedged itself under the bottom drawer of my dresser, and once when it got wedged under some shelves. And that was on the first usage! I should add that another brand of robot vacuum did not get stuck in any of these places. Maybe my furniture is just not compatible with the Deebot. Maybe it will have more success in different room. If it doesn't get stuck in other rooms, I'll update my review. But for now, I would have a hard time recommending this over other brands.

Great Robot Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This robot vacuum was easy to setup. It comes with a remote that has quite a few functions for controlling the vacuum. They also have an app, which works well and has additional features. The vacuum has an optional mopping feature, but I mainly use the unit for vacuuming my hardwoods and carpet. LIke other robot vacuums I've used, it takes a while for the robot to find it's way back to the base. I was able to find an Aelxa Skill that allows me to start cleaning my floors using my Amazon Echo voice command. So far, I'm really enjoying this vacuum.
