The feature that sold me is definitely the tagline that says ‘actively removes hair wrap’ on the brush roll. I previously had a ‘pet’ vacuum, but hair would constantly build-up on the roller and I had to manually remove the roller to cut/remove long hairs. I do not have a dog or cat in the house, but I do have a wife and daughter with long hair that seems to constantly get caught in vacuums. After running through the house with this Shark, I was expecting a lot of hair build-up. I was surprised that there was literally none on the roller. I don’t know if this is a big ticket on vacuums these days since I am not a ‘vacuum connoisseur’, but I love the feature. In addition, I like the ability to easily switch between carpet and hardwood (I have a mix of both in the house). On the downside it is heavy and can be cumbersome while using it around the house, especially if you detach it from the base to carry. Overall, it is a great vacuum with a lot of power that I do recommend to anyone.

Bought this vacuum after my shark pet pro died on me. Definitely doesn’t have the same suction power (less), but does do it’s job well. Most of the components are plastic, whereas with the shark pet pro- they were metal. Price increased, and quality decreased.

After I use the vacuum on the floors the first time I then washed my floors. Unfortunately, there was still debris on the floor. I really like shark vacuum products but this one is just not up to par.

    Innovative and powerful Vacuum

I'll start by saying that I used to be a Dyson owner for the better of my adult life. That all changed when my mother-in-law bought us a Shark Rocket. At first I wasn’t a fan, I was hoping for a Dyson handheld but I figured what the heck, I’ll give this one a try. That was about 3 years ago now, and I now have 3 Shark products – the Rocket, the ION robot and now the Duo-Clean lift-away. I enjoyed the lightweight and portability of the Rocket, which is why until now I had no desire to upgrade. The lift-away is very innovative in its ability to transform into a carry along vacuum from its traditional upright fixture. After a few uses I find myself going back and forth depending on the area I am cleaning and I really appreciate the ease of switching from upright to carry along. The vacuum was easy to get out of the box and setup with a lot of satisfying clicks and locks that didn’t take long to finish. After that I went through the quick start guide and went about cleaning 2 floors of my house. Between my wife and our daughter (both with shoulder length hair) , our 2 dogs and a cat there is plenty to pick up! I was super impressed with the brush roll that really pulls in everything you go over, it was especially great in our mud room picking up large and small debris from pieces of mud to fine sand particles. The front of the brush roll housing is made of rubber so it doesn’t mark or smash into baseboards or walls while you are cleaning. With the amount of hair collected on a regular basis we are constantly removing the long strands from the Rocket and the Robot, so far I have not had to do so with the Zero-M technology on this vacuum very, very innovative. I was very impressed with the low noise this thing generates! For the size and power I expected something on the louder side but not the case (in my opinion). Another nice touch was the added LED light on the wand handle, makes reaching and seeing those tough spots in the ceilings or stairs much easier. There are 2 tool mounts on the vacuum one of them is dedicated to the pet hair motorized brush and the other can be used to stow whichever tool you choose. I was able to go from upright mode to carry along and attach the pet tool in less than 10 seconds and I was on my way to cleaning our furniture. Worked really well as the tool creates a sort of seal against the cushions. Only down side is that it is a bit loud but, I expected that. The only minor down side is in the upright configuration it can be a bit taxing on your wrist or arm due to the weight. It is not as agile as the Rocket, but I would say that should be expected considering what the capabilities are of the AZ1002. I believe after some more use I’ll get a better feel for the handling, since I am coming from something with less performance and power. Super happy with this vacuum and looking forward to continued satisfaction and a clean home with Shark!

I could not believe how easy this Shark vacuum cleaner was to put together...snap, finger, pop!! I love the luxury look of the Espresso color that blends in with home decor. I was pleased with the settings and out the box pinpoint operation. Started out on hard floor and amazed with smooth, even pickup power and suction of the Shark Duo Cleaner. The size is also great for handling with convenient power lift away vacuum pod that removes to use in other household chores such as cleaning between seats out of reach dust areas with vacuum accessories including pet hair tool. The cord is plenty long to accommodate large spaces with easy storage. Overall the technology of the Shark Apex is ahead of its competitors for duo cleaning, flexibility and size making it a green light for sure.

I had the shark rotator vacuum for almost 3 years and just upgraded to this. The new tech this vacuum utilized to remove hair from the wheels seems to be doing its job. If the vacuum wasn’t so clunky I would give it another star.

    A Real Workhorse

In an effort to “Have the latest Gizmo”, I’ve moved over the years from an old HEAVY traditional upright vacuum to both a Robot vacuum and a cordless Stick Vacuum. Those two certainly lowered the physical effort required to clean the house. However, we live in a pine forest and I began to notice that as the batteries on the robot and the stick vacuums aged, I was manually picking up more and more little bits of debris like sticky pine needles stuck on the hardwood floors and bits of miscellaneous debris snared in the carpets after vacuuming with the lightweight battery units. I decided that I needed to go back to the POWER of a plug in. I was amazed at the volume of dirt that the Shark Apex DuoClean picked up the first time I used it. Not just the amount of dirt picked up, but the Apek’s capacity to hold so much dirt before emptying was required. I could do the whole house without stopping to empty the bagless canister. I can still let the robot do its thing every couple of days, but I’ll use this Workhorse for the weekly cleaning to really do a thorough job. FEATURES: - An extremely powerful suction that lifts dirt from deep within carpets. - A rotary bristle brush and a rotary soft roller that together separate carpet fibers to remove embedded dirt and polish smudges from hardwood and tile floors. - 5 year limited warranty - A removable motor/canister assembly that allows the vacuum head and handle to fit under beds and sofas from one side to the other. - LED lights on the vacuum head and handle to illuminate under beds and sofas and help make dirt on floors and carpets more visible. - Hair wrapped around brush roller is actively removed during operation. - Bagless anti-allergen seal technology traps dust and allergens inside the vacuum - Noise reduction technology reduces noise and softens the pitch INCUDED ACCESSORY ATTACHMENTS: - 12” Crevice Tool - Pet Multi-Tool (stiff bristles for removing stuck on messes and a rotary bristle brush) - Anti-Allergen Dust Brush to remove fine dust from delicate surfaces - Onboard Motorized Pet/Upholstery Tool that stores onboard for convenience PROS: - Extremely powerful suction to remove dirt from carpets, upholstery and floors - Easy to steer - Very low profile when motor/canister pod is removed from body CONS: - Extremely power suction can make it difficult to move the head over very thick carpets. It’s not ideal for Shag carpets. - Heavier than lightweight cordless vacuums. CONCLUSION: - To really clean carpets and floors a plug-in vacuum still can’t be beat. The Shark - APEX DuoClean Powered Lift-Away AZ1002 Bagless Upright Vacuum is today’s State-of-the-Art.

The 3rd time I used this vacuum, the brushes stopped spinning. I was so frustrated that I picked it up like a foot off the floor and dropped it. Then it worked again. I’m guessing it was not wired properly and will probably stop working well before it should. This will be the last Shark that I buy.

After dealing with loud, bulky vacuums my whole life, this thing is a breath of fresh air. It's relatively light and my wife and I actually had a conversation while using it on bare floor mode. The modes can easily be switched by a sliding toggle on the handle so you don't have to reach down to the base. Bright LED's show dust and hair so you know where to vacuum. I got really excited when I removed the wand from the base to do some detail work and another light came on in the handle! The vent also exhausts upward instead of sideways or down so it doesn't blow the stuff you're trying to vacuum around. 10/10 purchase and I'm actually excited to vacuum the house now!

First, let me say that many people love Shark. I have not generally been one of those people. I've tried a couple of Shark vacs in the past and found them to be solid performers, but not thing special. Until now. This Shark APEX DuoClean Powered Lift-Away AZ1002 Bagless Upright Vacuum is awesome! It is easy to use and has a phenomenal amount of suction power for deep cleaning. We have been very, very impressed. The Zero-M system works well to ensure the brushes don't get tangled with hair or fur - a much-appreciated design in our household. Our only complaint so far has been that the base doesn't pivot as easily as you might expect. This makes it a little more difficult to maneuver in some tight spots, but it gets there with a little effort. A nice bonus is you can separate the vacuum itself from the base and use it for more difficult to reach areas. From Shark: Shark® APEX® combines DuoClean®, Zero-M™, and Powered Lift-Away® technologies to deliver our ultimate full-sized cleaning experience. +DuoClean® technology: dual brushroll system deep cleans carpets and directly engages floors for a polished look. +Powered-Lift Away®: the canister detaches to extend the reach of the cleaner head, including under furniture. +Zero-M™ technology offers powerful Shark® suction and incredible cleaning performance by actively removing hair wrap so you don't have to. It deep cleans dust, debris, and hair—both pet and human hair. +Advanced Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology® traps dust and allergens are inside the vacuum. +Noise Reduction Technology: expertly tuned to reduce noise and soften pitch. +Active-Glide Technology: smooth maneuverability on floors and carpets while maintaining powerful suction. +LED lights on the handle and floor nozzle provide visibility in dark spaces, allowing for a thorough clean. The Shark Apex is a high-quality vacuum with terrific suction power, excellent versatility, and impressive technology. I highly recommend it.

Great development in the battle against cat hair

I have a lot of indoor cats so I have several floor vacuums to try and keep up with all the hair. I'm fairly impressed with this latest Shark vacuum and it may be the best weapon so far in my arsenal for fighting loose pet hair. First, the things I like about it. It's noticeably quieter than other vacuums this size, so that's always a plus for cat (and human) ears. The dust bin is the easiest to empty of all the bagless vacuums I've used. It's square shape lets everything slide out efficiently. You can also easily open the top half if any hair/dust bunny gets stuck near the top. The electric motorized hand brush tool is also the best of ones I've tried. The Dyson one is good, but it's still powered by air flow. Having an electric motor on it does seem to clean the stair carpet much better. It's also good for pulling cat hair off upholstery. I really like that all the buttons are right on the handle where you need them. So many vacuums have switches in inconvenient locations, but I was very happy to see Shark do them right. Also, the LED lights on the hand tool and the floor brush work great to illuminate the work area. They're bright enough and pointed in just the right direction. There are only a few of what I consider to be minor negatives. The dust bin is relatively small and needs to be emptied often (but it's easy to empty). The wheels aren't the greatest so sometimes it's a little hard to steer and with its weight your arm can get a little tired. When you're using just the pod/canister and the hand tool, you pretty much have to keep the pod in one hand or it tends to tip over. I frequently come across cat toys that need to be picked up, so I found it was actually easier to leave the pod on the floor brush and just carry all of it around. That makes it much more stable when I sit it down temporarily. Overall, I really like this vacuum design and I'd recommend it.
