Customers are saying

Customers praise the Pavilion Desktop's ease of use, performance, and reasonable price. Many appreciate its fast solid state drive and compact size, finding it quiet and easy to set up. While some users mention limitations with the power supply and Windows operating system, the positive feedback on other features outweighs these concerns.

We bought this for Coronavirus homeschooling. All three of my kids use it in addition to a laptop we previously owned. Super easy setup and better graphics than I expected but I’m not a serious gamer. It’s fast compared to what we had. I like it. My minor complaints: It comes with McAfee which I dumped, and the Microsoft Team thing that loads a bit slow on startup. Almost 5 stars!

Nice little desktop, a few drawbacks

I've only had this one for a couple of days, but it makes a strong first impression. Compared to my previous computer (another HP, vintage 2008!) it is: - smaller - lighter - faster - and above all, QUIETER (thanks to the SSD storage vs a hard drive). A few things that could be better, but these are peripheral: - the POWER BUTTON is tiny and recessed. While that makes it harder to press inadvertantly, which is good, the same applies when you WANT to turn it on! You almost need a fingernail or some other slim object to use it. Fat fingered users, beware! - The KEYBOARD AND MOUSE work well, but are lightweight and have a cheap feel to them - I will keep them as spares. At least they are wired - I hate having things that need batteries. - The CD/DVD DRIVE is garbage. -- Like the power button, the on/off switch is tiny and hard to push. You cannot open it by command because Windows 10 doesn't show you the drive if there is no disk on it. -- The drive itself comes out to accept a disk. On my old computer it was just a drawer and the electronics stayed safely inside the computer. You just dropped in a disk and pushed it closed. This one with a vertical mount is harder to use. You have to press the disk onto the hub, which can take a few tries, and while you are doing that (trying not to drop it), the thing flexes and feels like it will break off. Best to use both hands, one on each side pressing against each other. (Dismounting a disk is much easier.) If you are going to watch DVD's or listen to CD's a lot, and have to change disks frequently, this will become annoying. But those complaints are relatively minor. This appears to be a solid little machine with, I hope, a long future ahead of it. I've had just 3 PC's over the last 20 years (including this one), all HP's and never had a single hardware problem. The only reason I replace them (after about 10 years!) is because the ever more bloated bloatware that keeps arriving requires more fire power.

I got this to replace an eight year-old business refurb machine whose PS died. This HP is as fast, if not slightly better, than the old machine and I was able to order it online and pick up curbside in a pandemic. I need the machine to teach my courses online, including making lecture videos. I did by an extra 8GB memory stick, but have had absolutely no problems with the performance of this machine for office and web tasks. It even works for video editing, but rendering of longer videos is slow and maxes out the CPU. As far as positives, it has plenty of USBs for all my peripherals, half of which are USB3.0; it is super quiet; it has all the computing power needed for typical home computer tasks; can accommodate my two monitors without an added video card. The only negatives are if you need a machine to handle resource intensive apps such as gaming or video editing beyond what I do, you might want an i5 or i7. The 8GB is adequate for most tasks, but I tend to leave a lot of stuff open at the same time, so adding more was helpful. On the good side, the 8gb that came stock was on one stick so adding another was simple since there are two slots. Overall, it was a great value as it was available when I was in a pinch and it seems to be a solid performer one month in.

This computer is fairly fast and very quiet and boots up quickly with its solid state drive. It has a small footprint so doesn't take up much room. It doesn't have a lot of storage capacity for say large quantities of pictures or other stuff, but for a lighter computer user like me it is plenty adequate and the price was reasonable.

I bought this HP desktop when it was on sale, and what a screamin' deal! The 256GB Solid State Drive and i3 Intel Core processor make for a very fast PC, even more if you add an extra 8GB of RAM memory to make for 16GB of memory. This unit will take anything (within reason!) you can throw at it, so it's not a gamer's machine, but for the price, it is the best desktop web-surfing, emailing, office running desktop you are likely to find. The SSD makes it faster than the Lenovo or Dell desktops in the same price range, just be sure to download and install the very latest updates from HP and Microsoft when you hook it up, and add an extra 8GB of memory like I did to make for 16GB, keep the SSD clean and uncluttered, and you are unlikely to do better than this for the price.

It was easy to locate the spaces to link the mouse, speakers and monitor. Does not take up a lot of space. Lighter weight than the 2011 model. Runs quietly and does not overheat. Has been working with no problems. Purchased this model because the one from 2011 still works. Product is reliable.

Replaced my older HP desktop running Windows 7 with this model. Very easy setup. This desktop has 4 USB ports in the back and 4 in the front. Great for plugging and unplugging devices. Uncluttered design and very quiet. Wish the internal drive came with more than 8GB of memory. I now use an external drive to save my documents, photos, etc. If you save everything to the cloud, then onboard memory should not be much of an issue. On my past HPs Chrome and other browsers over time became corrupted and processing slowed down. Not sure if this is a hardware or Windows issue. Overall, so far, very pleased with this dektop.

This HP tower replaced an awful Dell Inspiron that was very loud and finally gave up after less than 3 years of troubled use. I was very surprised at how much faster this new HP was -- I mean, super fast! And so very quiet. After Geek Squad transferred all my data, I just had to plug in a few lines. Very easy. Ready to go. East to re-install my webcam and headset. I'm a non-techie, so this saved me a lot of grief. Thank you, Geek Squad!

I bought this for my aunt. Its a nice upgrade from her 7 yr old Dell she had that was way long in the tooth. This boot and loads fast with its included ssd. Plenty of storage for OS and photos, as well as many games she plays. Runs win 10 perfectly, the Intel i3 cpu runs circles around around her old desktop. Definitely a great purchase for everyday web browsing and other simple functions.

This HP Pavilion Desktop - Intel Core i3 - 8GB Memory - 256GB Solid State Drive in Natural Silver is a nice machine. For my needs (not a lot of gaming) it is more than adequate. It is fast and responsive in every day use and when working with photo cropping and enhancing programs. I would recommend it for any light to moderate home computer needs.

Replacement PC for Pandemic In-home Schooling

Purchased as an emergency replacement for an Intel NUC6CAYS that "died" while being used by a seven-year-old granddaughter for in-home learning during the pandemic. The PC was an open-box purchase at the local Best Buy. Added an 8GB RAM stick (16GB total RAM) and a Nvidia GT 1030 to the HP Pavilion Desktop a week after purchase. The 180W Gold power supply limits which graphics cards can be added - only PCI slot powered units will work. The GT 1030 only draws about 30W so there has been no trouble with taxing the power supply. The Hynix M.2 256GB SSD drive is amazingly fast as the PC boots in about 5 seconds. The included HP software makes it easy to keep the PC updated, even the BIOS was easy to update with no trouble. The PC has been used six to seven hours daily for classwork and has had no issues or overheating. This PC was a quick and excellent replacement that is highly recommended for similar usage even without the upgraded RAM and graphics card. During the pandemic when PCs are difficult to find in stock or afford Best Buy came through again for our family. Thanks.

I needed a desktop computer to replace my laptop but didn't want to spend a lot of money. This HP is exactly what I needed. All the necessary features and memory. Not large and easy to set up. I especially like the USB ports on the front of the box, as well as more on the back - so lots of them. And being silver it is inconspicuous .

Good pc for basic work and low end graphics. Want to upgrade video card but it only has a 180 watt power supply ... would have to upgrade both ... not worth it. Does fine for all Internet stuff. Fast processor and fast SSD -really like that. You can run out of room if put a lot on it but you can add another I believe. Overall, happy with the purchase

Bought this machine because my old HP tower was on its last legs (it originally came with Windows 7). The old 26" monitor still had life, so I just bought this tower as a replacement. This is my first experience with a solid state drive, and I was immediately impressed with the speed factor -- how quickly it boots, loads software, brings up anything -- compared to the old style hard drive. Wasn't looking for a speed machine -- don't use it for games, more for MS Office apps like Word, don't stream videos. The core I3 processor is more than adequate for what I need, but I have to admit that it's nice to have the extra speed factor with the SSD.

We are a 6 doctor medical practice reliant on our information technology for our operations every day. This computer has become our “go to” as we replace older machines or add new computers to our network. It does come with Windows 10 Home which requires upgrading to Pro. We have been pleased with the computers and Best Buy as the vendor of choice for computer needs. Solid choice and a good price. Overall great value. Thank you for being there during the challenging time of COVID-19!

Great for the computer for the price. Still has a CD rom which I like. CD rom pops out, not electric like I'm used to but that's fine. Not too small of a box & not as big as the old computers. Processes really fast which is a plus.

It’s perfect for everyday day tasks. With the ssd it boots up from power on to web browser in 34 seconds. As far as video performance is concerned it’s able to play 1080 fine but once you start going to 2.7 k it gets iffy. It can do 2.7k at 30 frames but struggled at 60 frames. I’ll prob end up maxing out the ram and see if it helps. Very hard to upgrade the graphics card as the power supply unit doesn’t offer much power.
