Best keyboard for Mac Users (or anyone)

I use a MacBook Pro hooked up to a 34” curved monitor on my desk at home. As I’ve always used Apple’s Keyboards I will mostly talk about how this compares to that. If you own a Mac and are looking to change it up I highly recommend this. I had been using an Apple Magic Keyboard and Apple Mouse and recently switched to the Logitech MX Master 2S mouse when I heard about the MX Keys keyboard. I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. I like it a lot more than the Magic Keyboard 2 in Space Gray. It looks great with my setup and the backlighting works really well. I leave it off during the day and turn it on at night to improve battery life. The fit and finish is excellent, it’s very solid metal and heavy, it doesnt’ move around on my desk at all. It feels like Apple’s build quality. I have used Magic Keyboards since 2007 starting with the original and now I own several of the Magic Keyboard 2 and this MX Keys is the best replacement I’ve found that mimics the typing on the Magic keyboard with smooth scissor mechanisms and short key travel while making improvements. The little dimples in the middle of each key are really comfortable when typing. I like that the Logitech is slightly more angled than the newest version of the Magic Keyboard. I find the newest version a little too flat, this has about the angle of the first Apple keyboard that had the battery compartment. This also has lots of additional functions, all of the media keys work perfectly and can be programmed to other things, for example I have one programmed to put my system to sleep. This keyboard can also be paired to three different devices and you can switch easily. I’ve used it with my iPad Pro a few times on my desk but it’s really to heavy to be mobile. I hope this comparison helps some who are deciding between Apple’s keyboard and this as I think it improves on it in most ways.

This keyboard is a lot slimmer and a bit smaller than my current keyboard, K800, that I use in the office. I purchased this second keyboard, MX full-size, to use at home with my laptop when I am WFH. I thought of getting the MX Mini, but the price difference wasn't much and I do use the 10 key often. So I opted for the full-size version. I figured if I had to travel, I would not lug an additional keyboard to use. I would just use the built-in keyboard on my laptop! LOL When I do WFH, I typically work at my lift top coffee table and place my laptop on a stand, which helps with my posture so I don't slouch. So an additional keyboard was needed. Additionally the space I work at, is a bit cluttered and not a whole lot of room. As you can see in the picture. (I know, I need to clean it!) Which is why I decided to go for a wireless keyboard. One less cord to deal with. You can pair up to 3 devices and toggle through. But I haven't had the need to use it with different devices, so not sure how seamlessly it toggles between devices. I've only used it a few times since receiving it. So I have not charged it yet. I've been using it straight out of the box on whatever charge it had. So not sure of the battery life since it is not my daily used keyboard. I love the backlit keys. The smart illumination is a neat feature. As soon as it senses movement, it lights up. The keys themselves are quiet and smooth. It has good weight to it, so it feels sturdy. And with the non slip pads on the bottom, there is no movement. I do wish you could adjust the height though. It's a single solid bar along the bottom. Not a deal breaker by any means, just wish it was a tad bit thicker for a slightly steeper slope. The only thing I wish it had, was a storage place for the dongle. Kind of like they have for small laptop mice. I know it's not meant for travel, but for those who like to switch up their keyboards or those who don't have a dedicated space to just leave it out, I'm sure they would appreciate the small storage so as to not lose it when needing to clear the space or change keyboards. But that's my only little minor complaint. Overall, it's a great little keyboard!

I purchased this to use with an older Mac mini and also to be able to use with multiple devices. I haven't had to use it on the other devices yet but I am happy with my purchase so far. The keyboard is not that quiet compared to the Logitech k750 I had before - it does have a definite click to each key that can be heard on a microphone. I like the feel of the keys and the way each key is slightly indented to ease your fingers into pressing the correct key. I purchased a mat to put under the keyboard so it didn't slide on my desk but there rubber feet on the bottom of the keyboard so that likely wouldn't be an issue for use on a smooth surface (one of my desks is wood and the other has a glass top). The keyboard is at a set height so be prepared for that - ergonomically it is good but I imagine some people would prefer it to be adjustable. It may be that I don't have it setup correctly, but the way I realized that it needed to be charged was the red light at the top right corner started being red. I was able to use it for a while before charging but at some point the backlit function stopped working until I plugged it in to charge. I left it on most of the month since I got it and use it 5 days a week for maybe 2 hours at a time. I think it will get more once I fully charge it and use it more frequently. The keyboard came charged and has lasted about a month before needing to be recharged. I am able to use it while it's charging so that is helpful.

Excellent Keyboard! Wanted something with a slightly smaller footprint, and this one fits the need very well! The keys are also spaced exactly like my full size Logitech keyboard (K800), but the whole keyboard itself is about an inch shorter in width. The keys are awesome - cupped to your fingers, and quiet. It's nice and heavy feeling, so doesn't just move around. Rechargeable with USB-C. Customizable keys, and you can connect it to 3 devices simultaneously. I haven't tried it, but from the sounds of it, could be a great feature to control 3 devices without a switch box.

I like it more than my Microsoft Arc keyboard

I was having a hard time seeing the keys on my old Microsoft Arc wireless keyboard. My new Logitech MX Keys keyboard solves that problem. The back-lit keys are a treat to my eyes. This Logitech Keyboard is heavy compared to my old MS Arc keyboard. It is cased in metal. When you set it down on your desk it stays put. You have to pick it up to move it. It doesn't easily slide around on your desk top. The result is a nice solid feel when typing on the nicely spaced keys. The keys on the old MS Arc keyboard were too close together and I frequently hit the wrong key. I am at best a poor typist. In fact I type with one hand as a result of paralysis. I am clearly making fewer mistakes with this new Logitech keyboard. The indentation on the keys seems to add to my improved accuracy. I haven't had the keyboard long enough to comment on battery life but I am not really worried about that. It's easy enough to plug into a USB port for charging. I don't plan on moving the keyboard around much. It will stay on my desk for use with my Windows 10 desktop PC. It was easy to activate this keyboard. I already have the Logitech Unifying Receiver Software on my computer since I have a Logitech wireless mouse. I did have to use the Unifying USB Receiver that came with the MX Keyboard. The Logitech Unifying Receiver that came with my mouse did not pick up the new MX Keyboard. Logitech suggests that one receiver will operate multiple devices. Maybe a software update to the old Unifying Receiver would solve this. I don't know for sure. Everything is working fine with two receivers. Both receivers register on the Logitech Unifying Software with different software version numbers. I checked for software updates via the Unifying Receiver software but none were available. Most importantly, I am not experiencing any dropouts between the new MX Keyboard and the Unifying Receiver that came with the keyboard. My old MS Arc Keyboard and receiver were plagued with dropouts and freeze ups. I was constantly doing battery pulls to get the MS keyboard working again. Not a problem with the new Logitech MX Keys Keyboard. The MX Keys keyboard is bigger than my old MS Arc keyboard but Logitech has still managed to pack an elegant full sized feeling keyboard into a relatively small package. I will add a picture as an illustration. I suppose $100.00 is a lot to pay for a keyboard. However, my initial impressions are that money was well spent. It looks and feels like a heavy duty quality product. I am happy with this purchase.

Love the feel and comfort using this keyboard. It reminds me of my old IBM thinkpad laptops. The battery life is outstanding compared to the old AA battery keyboards. Also, the ability to switch between computers by a push of a button has been such an upgrade for using multiple computers at the same desk.

Absolutely love the operation and functionality of this keyboard. So far after 3 weeks of use I haven’t found any negatives. The fact you can easily switch its connection from one computer to another with just a press of a button is something I never realized I needed so much. Also love that it multi usability between windows and Mac. The fact that it’s also rechargeable is a highlight since you don’t have to worry about not having batteries laying around. If for some reason the batteries to die while using it you can simply plug it in to charge and keep on plugging away working. So far in 3 week of constant usage I’ve only charged it once after the factory charge was spent. Note that’s also with using the backlight feature. Which without that I’d expect even longer battery life. Overall setup be it via Bluetooth or the universal receiver was super easy, straight forward and only took a few minutes.

I love the fact that I can easily switch between my work laptop, personal & desktop computers with the quick press of a button. The keys feel good and are pretty quiet. The backlight is also a nice feature. The battery life is better than I expected. The only issue I sometimes have is when I switch to my desktop that's connected via the supplied USB dongle, it doesn't immediately respond. Seems to work better when connected via bluetooth.

This is in my opinion the greatest keyboard out there. What's nice is it's compatible with Mac as well as PC. I'm using it on my main computer and the typing is silky smooth, very responsive and I love the chiclet style keys. It can be used with a unifying receiver (USB) as well as a Bluetooth connection and both work exceptionally well. The unifying dongle that comes with it pairs real well with my M705 mouse and I only have to have one receiver for both devices. The keys are backlit which is great and I don't have to charge it very often, although I've heard that people have to charge it quite a bit cuz they use it probably more than I do. If you can swing the price it's highly recommended.

Keyboard is worth the price and the battery seems to last forever! Use the bluetooth-connection option to avoid taking up USB space and interference with Logitech USB mice. *DO NOT* download the suggested "Logi options" program after following the online keyboard setup. This does not add any additional functionality as far as I could tell. At best it functions as a low-tech spyware. And at worst, I had MAJOR problems when using a Microsoft Remote Desktop remote connection with the Logi Options software installed. There was a 3-20 second lag for every mouse action (click, scroll) I completed on the remote computer. This probelm was completely resolved by uninstalling the Logi Options program. So love the keyboard. And Logi Options--- Don't do it!

I'm reviewing this product as someone who uses this keyboard for both web based work and gaming. I recently decided to use an OLED tv as a pc monitor and was looking for a wireless keyboard to fit with my setup. I'm happy to report that this keyboard is a solid product. Battery life and general performance is great. I generally charge the keyboard once a week and use the keyboard about 5+ hours/day. The keystrokes feel good with a tactile feel per press and it's almost dead-silent while typing. The lighting is subtle but I find it plenty bright even in a dark room. Having different brightness options is also nice. USB-C charging is a blessing and you can still use the keyboard while charging but it still needs to be wirelessly connected. I'd recommend using the USB wireless dongle for the best results. I installed the Mx keys' accompanying software called 'Logitech Options' on the pc and I think you can get away with not using it but I did appreciate that upon boot up the software gives you a brief but helpful tutorial for main features. The software is relatively unintrusive too. If you're a hardcore gamer then I don't think this keyboard will be the best option. It has a 6-key rollover which is plenty for the games I play such as WoW, CoD, and Overwatch. However, if you need to press more than 6 keys at once, then this keyboard will be insufficient. If you're looking for a great wireless keyboard and your use cases are similar to mine then for $99 I think this keyboard is worth it. It's got a low profile, great build quality, and performs solidly for both professional tasks and light gaming.

    • Brand response from Logitech
      Posted .

Hi Marshy, Thank you for sharing this very comprehensive and rave 5-star review of the MX Keys---your feedback and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Logitech's Options software is a great add-on to have to help your MX run optimally. It also greatly enhances features like Caps/Num lock by letting you know onscreen whether their on or not. You can also get battery and connection statuses. Probably the most important thing that Options does is alert you to any firmware updates when they become available. If you have any issues come up, go to the MX Keys' product page (here's a link: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034762774) which will have FAQs, other software downloads, warranty information, spare parts (you can get a palm rest made specifically for the MX Keys), and more. Hope that this was helpful and that all is going well. Thank you for choosing Logitech. - Richard from Logitech

Great keyboard if you need constant switching between Mac and Windows or just multiple devices. The keyboard has two different layouts printed which is really helpful. The switching between them is super responsive as well. The keyboard is much quieter than the mechanical version, which will be a plus if you are gonna use it in the office. The weight of the keyboard also prevents it from being accidentally moved on the table.

First off, this is my third or fourth Logitech keyboard (and mouse), so I'm pretty much a loyal customer. Not that I haven't tried other brands, but I haven't yet found another brand that is even close to as good. The quality is a given, so I'm going to focus on the difference between Logitech keyboards. I've positioned the MX in front of the K800, and you can see that the MX is similar from left to right and about 3" narrower from front to back. I like the smaller size because that leaves more room for your mouse, page stand or whatever else you may need near your keyboard. The actual keyboard itself is the same size and the difference is in the front palm rest, which you could substitute with your own choice, and the rear switch /battery level panel, which is really just wasted space. The on-off switch on the MX is on the back right of the keyboard and slides horizontally. It's easy to feel-find and has a slight "click" instead of a "mushy slide" as the K800 has. There is just one green LED light on the top right that flashes while charging and stays constant when charged. I can't tell you what happens when the keyboard needs to be recharged because I've used it for 3 weeks with no appreciable battery drain. Although the MX is smaller than the K800, It weighs as much, if not more. Possibly because there is a 1" x 1" "spine" which runs along the bottom rear and serves as the rear "legs" I suspect that is where the batteries are as well. The batteries are not meant to be replaced, and the unit looks as if it's a sealed unit. In any case, the overall "feel" is very solid with no flexing even with a little extra attempted twist. The Keys are adequately backlit with a battery saving pause-shut off feature similar to previous Logi backlit models, and are almost flush to the panel. They are minimum travel so sausage-fingered galoots like me have to always be careful of the hated double (even triple) key. There also isn't a lot of open space between the keys for "debris" to hide. The peripheral keys are laid out a little differently as they have both Mac and Win labels. There is also an interesting set of 3 buttons across the top for 1, 2 and 3 screen multi-screening, although I've not yet used that feature. Overall this is another high quality Logitech keyboard. Not an "all that" upgrade, but a good solid choice to replace ageing or inferior keyboards with Logitech "rock solid" quality and reliability.

This Logitech Keyboard is a game changer for me and my current environment. Done are the days of having to move around the dongle to different machines just to get it to work. This keyboard features Bluetooth and can easily pair to and store the settings for three devices. If you need to go beyond or don't have Bluetooth on your device, it does come included with the traditional wireless dongle so you can move around as needed. The feel of each key stroke is amazing. Overall this keyboard comes close to being a solid alternative to the other fruit branded one in the market for a fraction of the price. Layout is pretty standard size, not compact or condensed. I am able to flawlessly use this keyboard on Bluetooth between a Mac, Android, and Windows machines. One tap to the setting number and it switches over. Charing is amazing, comes with a USB Type-C cable to charge, no need to change out batteries. As for the key strokes, I can't rave enough how quite and smooth they are to use. Some other pro's to put out there, the keyboard has a good weight to it so it won't be easily flopping around your work surface, between the weight and rubber feets, it stays put. The backlight engages when you are typing or motion passes the keyboard, otherwise the backlight dims back to off between type for battery conservation. I've only had to charge it once and that probably wasn't necessary but I did it just to get a charging in after opening it. The keys on the key board also feature some Mac and some Windows specific keys for ease.

After owning the Space Gray Apple Magic Keyboard for a few months, I was left wanting more from a keyboard. I really wanted to enjoy that keyboard, especially for the price I paid. To my loss, I ended up selling it after 3 months and picked up this MX Keys and WOW! What a difference!! I went with this version as I switch between an iMac and a Windows laptop, and I have to say that process is speedy and simple! The backlighting allows me to work day and night, without having to strain my eyes or look for a light source to see where a key is. It has all the features I need to retain the feel of an Apple keyboard and a Windows keyboard. All the features on the "F##" keys work as I expect and I can have them set to work as desired depending on the connection. For example on device 1 (iMac), the F keys are set to perform the features like brightness of screen or keyboard, play-pause-next, and volume control and on device 2 (Windows), I have the "F##" keys function as those alone and I hold the fn key to use the features above. The keys are soft to the touch, very quiet and have a comfortable groove. Battery life is acceptable, even when having backlighting on all the time, but if I needed to charge, I just plug it in and keep working. This is definitely a solid and feature rich keyboard and I must for anyone looking to upgrade from their standard keyboard.
