Clean air and stylish
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Blueair classic has a sleek design that can go with any decor, it's easy to set up so that you can start purifying your space within minutes. I have been running the Blueair purifier non-stop and you can tell the difference, usually I wake up with some congestion due to allergies but I haven’t had any congestion since running the purifier. When it is running it is pretty silent even at night. I also appreciate that it has a DualProtection filter that removes bacteria, viruses, allergens and pollutants. The Blueair purifier has a good weight to it, it feels like it was built to last. I also appreciate the Auto function which allows the filter to adjust based on the environment , so for example in the kitchen the Blueair adjusts to the smoky conditions and removes the odors as you are cooking. Overall, I have tested the Blueair purifier in different locations and settings and I can feel the difference in the air quality inside the home.

Very Quiet, Great Features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right off I have to say this air purifier exceeded my expectations. It’s not just an air purifier, it’s an air quality monitor, too. The setup is quick and easy. Take it out of the box, plug it in, download the app and follow the on-screen instructions. It only takes a couple of minutes to set it up. Once setup was completed, I was very pleasantly surprised to see all the air quality information showing on the app. The app has 2 display screens, one that shows local outdoor air quality, and one that shows the indoor air quality. The indoor air quality is monitored for and shows a scale for 3 different types of particulate matter and for chemicals. It shows the amount of each detected, and gives a quality rating for each one from excellent to very polluted. Besides air quality, both the outdoor and indoor display screens on the app have other functions as well. When opened, the app first displays the outdoor air quality screen. At the top is the outdoor air quality rating and scale, and below it displays your connected product(s), its status and indoor air quality. Tap on the product to move to the indoor screen. At the top are the air quality categories, temperature, and humidity. Below the indoor air quality scale it shows the mode your unit is in, Auto or Manual, and fan speed. Below that is Filter Status, Schedules, and Product Settings. The air filter is supposed to last 180 days. The status bar shows days remaining. I like that you can sign up to have filters shipped from Blueair automatically as needed. The cost is not too unreasonable at $49.99 each for this model, shipping is free, and they offer 15% off if you sign up for the auto-refill subscription. Changing the filter is simple – swing open the door, lift out the old one, insert the new one. You can set schedules for each unit to switch between auto and manual and the fan speed when in manual mode. In Product Settings, the control panel display brightness on the unit can be adjusted, a child lock can be turned on to disable the on-unit control panel, and the unit location can be manually assigned. (During setup it automatically assigns the location.) Set in auto mode the air purifier is usually running on low fan speed and it is very quiet. The fan speed will increase when it detects a change in the air. For ours it’s not too far from the kitchen and sometimes while cooking I notice the fan speed increases. It’s still fairly quiet at higher fan speeds. The warranty is five years but if you enroll in the filter auto-refill it’s extended for as long as you remain in that program. As far as air purifying efficiency, Blueair units are rated at the top in every review I’ve read. My experience with this unit is that it’s high-quality, easy to operate, easy to maintain and provides great information on air quality. You can’t go wrong buying one of these.

Amazing Performance, Expensive Cost of Operation
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Blueair Classic is an incredible air purifier, offering a set it and forget it operation that handles cleaning the air around you with zero intervention. It's fairly large (and the filters are the size of my home's furnace filters) but this particular model is capable of recycling a medium room's air 5x per hour. Overall, this is an amazing air purifier that's hampered by the very high long term cost of ownership. Setup was very simple; you download the app and follow the steps to get the air purifier registered on your Wifi network. It worked flawlessly, which is more than I can say for lots of other "smart" products these days that are a pain to get setup. Once it was setup, that was it. It runs in auto mode and does its thing silently in the background, out of mind. Overall, this thing is great, produces fresh air, and eliminates odors in short order. The big issue I have with the Blueair Classic is that filters are obscenely expensive. If you want to replace the filter that ships with it, you're going to be shelling out over $100. Blueair offers a subscription service that knocks 15% off the cost, but that still puts it around $100, and when you need to replace it twice per year, the costs quickly add up. Blueair also offers a single stage filter, which sits around $50 and is easier to swallow, but you won't get the same level of performance. Overall, there's not much else to say other than that this thing works incredibly well. The downside is that you'll have to live with a higher cost of operation over time, but for people needing solid air filtration in their homes, it might be a cost that's worth dealing with.

The best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent some good time with this product and I absolutely love it. It really does make an air quality difference and I have to say the Blueair classic is the best in the air purifier business. This system is ultra quiet when it’s on fan speed 1 which it normally operates while on auto mode. It does get louder at the higher fan speeds which you want as it automatically detects various pollutants in the air. The app is really cool and will actually tell you what time it detects something in the air and how long it took to filter out the air on a chart. This system is perfectly rated for my size master bedroom. It also improved dust quality. I definitely recommend getting a Blueair that is app compatible so you know what your machine is thinking and also real stats on your air quality. Blueair is superior with its quality and the way it mechanically cleans your air.

Very smart air purifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I now have a air purifier on every floor of my house but this one definitely seems to be the smartest and the most aware to polluted air inside my house. If I open a door, it turns up filtration. I just cleaned my floor and sprayed a cleaner nearby and it turned up filtration. It is very quiet. I just keep it on auto mode.It seems to know what it is doing and with everything going on in life, I appreciate not having to think about it and just breathing the fresh air. I did have a little problem connecting to the app but I was able to talk with customer service which was outstanding and they walked me through troubleshooting. Through the app you can monitor and change settings as you wish as well as order new filters and other Blueair products. It even has a map of outdoor air quality as well. I’m very happy with my new Blueair air purifier.

Clean air without any noise
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In this day and age an air purifier is a must have for any house, especially mine which has a dog, cat and a 5 year old running around. We have several air purifiers in different parts of the house, all different brands. I consider the Classic Series 280i HEPA purifier to be one of the better one’s in my house. That’s not to say I didn’t get off to a little bit of a bumpy start with it. It is Wi-Fi enabled and has a great app to monitor particulate matter, Total volatile organic compounds (tVOC), temperature and humidity in your house. It also provides outdoor air quality based on your location which is set using the app. Now back to WI-FI. It took me several tries to get this connected. I am not sure why, but each time it would find the air purifier, then drop the connection. Everything else in my house connects without issue, but for some reason this had a problem. I wish I could tell you why so that you don’t have to experience it, but I am sure their customer support could provide the assistance you need. Connection issues aside, this purifier is definitely worth the trouble. I say it’s worth the trouble because once you get it connected, you have an excellent view into your air quality inside and out as well as a purifier that excels at removing odors from your room. It does all of this while being ultra quiet. As I said, I have several air purifiers in the house, but this is the only one that I don’t hear. It is so quiet that I moved this one into out media room and moved the one I had there into the kitchen. A couple of things to be mindful of. The big blue light on the front will seem very bright if you put it in your bedroom. But remember that great app? Within the app you can set the LED brightness. That might seem like a small thing to be excited about, but it just speaks to the level of detail this company has paid attention to. It’s that type detail that makes me want to buy more of their products. Overall this is an excellent Air purifier. A quiet, well designed product and app and it does a great job doing what its core function is. What else could you ask for?

Instant improvement in air quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Living in the Bay Area we have had a need for an air purifier for awhile, so this was the perfect addition to our home before the next wild fire season starts. This particular BlueAir model isn't large enough to handle a living room or open floorplan, but if you keep it in a bedroom or smaller sitting area it will have no problems keeping the air at optimal levels. When I first opened it up and got everything going (it's extremely straight forward/simple; remove wrapping, put filter in, plug it in, connect to WiFi, off you go) I left it in a larger room just to get acquainted with it. Over the next week in the same spot it would kick on/increase fan speed when we started cooking or if we had windows open for an extended period of time. Using the app to find out specifics was really interesting as you could notice trends in the day and/or when the weather changed outside and the BlueAir unit started doing it's thing. After that initial week of having it in a larger than supported room, I moved it to our master bedroom to see how it would help with our sleeping. MASSIVE improvement starting almost immediately. The air simply felt cleaner for lack of a better term. There was a quality about it that's hard to explain, but extremely noticeable. My wife and I both have woken up and mentioned to each other how much better our nasal passages felt, or how much better our quality of sleep was the night before. Crazy to think there's that much crap in the air keeping you from getting a good nights rest on a regular basis, I could only imagine what the app is going to show us come fire season. In that regard, more filters will be needed as only a single filter is included in the box. I would say maybe one extra would be a nice gesture, but it isn't a huge oversight. Easy recommendation and I'm willing to bet the models that support larger rooms work just as well, so I'll be keeping my eye out for them to go on sale as at this point I want a BlueAir in every room of the house!

Nice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good air purifier. Quality construction with metal cabinet except for the plastic front. A little heavy for it's size which seems to attest to the quality. Still light enough to easily move from room to room. Nice filter which removes particles as well as gases, pollutants, and odors. A bit loud on high setting but you can turn the fan to lower settings if you want it quieter. Auto setting adjusts for conditions or manual if you want to control it yourself. Nice app allows you to control it with your phone. Also shows outdoor/indoor air quality and temp and humidity. No simple timer but the app also provides for scheduling on/off times. The room size rating seems a bit conservative as I tested it in my living room which is about 400 sq ft and it seemed to work well. If you have allergies like I do you will likely notice a big difference.

Works well, pleasant at night
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works very well and sturdy unit. I have it in my bedroom and makes a noticeable difference when I wake up in the morning, no more congestion or coughing up my first few breathes anymore. I run it on low all day which is barely audible at all and then crank it up to high at night which can be heard but not disruptive and actually acts sort of as a “white noise” machine while sleeping. The app controlled features were simple to install on my iPhone and easily programs schedules as well as a really neat feature that lets you compare outdoor vs indoor air quality based location and the machine’s readings. I live in South Texas where the air is quite clean pollution-wise but environmental allergens in the air can run havoc on your sinuses. This has been a great addition in our home to and as I said very noticeable difference when I wake up in the morning after running it at night.

Best Air Purifier that actually works!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You know what, I forget that I actually have this device. It works so well in the background that I do not even notice that I have it. Best feature-- it is QUIET. Very, very, very quiet. The fan speed is on auto mode, and the only time I actually heard it on, was when a visitor suddenly decided that she can vape in the room, and the Blueair perhaps noticed it, and started increasing the fan speed to suck the air impurities in. In a couple of minutes, the fan speed went back to super quiet mode and everything is back to normal-- like clean air and all that. The noise actually is not light but soft-- so it blends well as ambient sound in the room. The design also blends nicely near a wall-- very sleek. Given its size, it is not difficult to put in place, and the set up is fairly easy too. I think this is the gold standard in air purifiers.

Works great!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I love this! We have this in the bedroom over the past week or two, and it’s been great. We have two dogs that love to play in the snow and come in the house with quite a stench. Noting is worse than trying to sleep with “wet dog smell” in the room, and it’s too cold to put them into the garage. This keeps the air clean, dogs get to stay warm, and everyone wakes up happy. Replacement filters are a lot cheaper than my HEPA 4 filter home filtration system. Under $100 compared to the $400 filters for the fancy one. Only “negative” is the blue lights on the control panel are BRIGHT! Keep the lid down at night or it will drive you nutters!

It filters pretty well.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this Blueair - Classic Series 280i Air Purifier to test via the best buy tech insider network. I have a bissell air 320 that I use in my basement and find it fairly effective. This unit does not cover as large of an area as the bissell, so I use on the edge of my dining room/kitchen area. It is quiet on setting 1 and 2, 3 does make a noticeable sound, about like my dishwasher. It's very acceptable watching TV with it on, but generally I turn it down. This unit is wifi connected and did so fairly easily, and the app has the nice feature of being able to turn the machine on and off from anywhere in my house. There are charts tracking pollution level, but in my neck of the woods there is not much to track. How does this compare to my bissell? I feel this does filter dust out of the air, looking at the filter it already shows some collection in the several week I've had this running. The thing I do not notice is a reduction in odors as much. The bissell has the heppa and a carbon filter, This dual protection filter has coconut carbon built into it, but I do not feel it cuts odors as well or quickly. That being said, I do feel this filter works pretty well. Maintenance is a bit pricier also, the dual protection every 6 months runs about 2 times the cost of the 6 mont carbon/heppa pair for the bissell. the size of the unit is decent, tucks away in a corner well, and seems well built. Overall, I recommend this item if you want an app enabled filter for a midsize room, but at most 4 of 5 stars due to upkeep cost if you stick with branded filters, and less noticeable odor removal.

Bluair, more like FreshAIR
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am in love with this purifier, to the point I bought 2 more. This Blueair Classic works amazingly and has made the kitchen smell amazing, no more food smells from cooking or leftovers in the fridge from the kids. Clean, country fresh air, all the time! The box arrived and the unit was packaged perfectly, zero damage and everything was tucked in nice. Quality packing means a company cares about their products. The unit is quiet, even on level 3 it is barely noticeable. The speed in which it removes smells and allergens from the air is crazy. I am allergic to dust and by setting this near the heating duct, it cleans the air coming out and I sneaze much less during the winter now. The app works great as well, I love how it gives the air quality inside and out. You can set time schedules for when it runs or let it go on auto. The app gives you a detailed graph of the air quality, so much I know when the back door is opened, when something is cooking and when the heater ran. The filter is easy to take care of as well, nothing difficult to remove or install. I through a power measuring outlet on it and at current electricity costs, it will use about $1.85 a month to run about 6 hours a day on average. If you are looking for an affordable air purifier, especially for a smoker, this one is it!

Bit of a Letdown
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am someone with allergy's and constant nasal congestion during the night while trying to sleep so I am always looking for some type of relief. I had high hopes for the Blueair 280 in hopes of not waking up with a congested nose. Upon arrival I was very pleased with the build quality, this unit is very sturdy and made mostly of metal parts. I followed the instructions for setup & installed the filters, then proceeded to install the app. I am not a fan of requiring an app to be able to use something but whatever, upon finding the app there were many reviews about how "horrible" the app was and how it was always losing connection or rebooting. I had absolutely NO issues with the app so I thought everything was good to go. I turned the machine on medium the first night & did notice that I slept better. While many have complaints regarding the noise level this did not bother me at all, however I hardly ever am the one to complain about noises of any type but I could see where this may bother some people. After a full day the only complaint I had was that the air intake is on the back of the unit & blows out of the top in a sideways direction so you can not push it up against a wall & are limited to how you can place it in a room. After the 2nd full day I got home after work & realized we had an ISSUE, let me first say that many other's online also have shared this same issue, I could have sworn that someone must have made a HUGE ham & cheese sandwich with ALOT of mayo & mustard and left it sitting out all night under a heat lamp. That description is the closest thing I can come up with to compare to the smell that encompassed the entire 2nd floor of my house. It did not take very long to realize that this smell was coming from the Blueair filter, most people call it a "chemical odor" but that is how it smelled to me. I unplugged the unit & left it off for 2 days, smell went away. Thought I would try it again to make 100% sure where it was coming from & sure enough within 4-6 hours there it was again. I am currently looking for a way to fix this issue but have so far found none. Given this I only run the unit for a few hours at night & then leave it off. In my opinion this unit is way too pricey to have this "limited" use & therefore I wouln not recommend this item. If I can find a remedy I will update the review & let everyone know how it is working out.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from Blueair Support Team
Posted .Thank you for your patience in my response and apologies for the issue.
Many new products release a new smell upon opening and using right out of the box. This is also true for filter media. Filter fibers can absorb a smell from other materials during the packaging process. This smell and all components involved during our filter production are harmless and non-toxic. This newness smell should move through and out of the filter within 48 hours of use. If you have run the air purifier for 48 hours and are still experiencing this issue, please email info@blueair.com and we would be happy to send another filter and solve the issue.

Almost Silent
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed it in my office at home. The 280 i is rated for rooms up to 279 sq ft (completely filters room air every 12 min), so it the perfect size for a home office or bedroom. It's currently located near my desk, and running on auto mode it stays on low most of the time and I don't even hear it. The room smells fresher, and the dust accumulation in my computers has lowered quite a bit. The Blueair came with a dual action filter, which is a combo HEPA + charcoal filter which also improves the efficiency of trapping gaseous pollutants like Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), traffic exhaust, smog, odors, and smoke. Unforutnately my wife came into the office about 15 min after I extinguished a cigar I had sneakily lit up but even though I had the window open to help expel the smoke, the Blueair didn't save me... darn it. The Blueair 280i is a smart air purifier, so it can be connected to your home’s wireless network via WiFi and can be controlled using Blueair’s smartphone app and has support for Alexa. If you provide location data, the app will detail outdoor air quality reports and the temperature and humidity levels inside your home. The Blueair feels well built and the performance level is more than adequate.

Good purifier with bad software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a couple of blue purifiers in my house and they work great I needed one for my living room area as lots of smoke/smells from the kitchen linger in the room. I got this purifier for that purpose and the actual purifier works great. It moves the air in the room very quickly. My biggest gripe is with the software. You have to use the app on iPhone. And setup was easy enough all of the information it gives you is great. My problem is the app has crashed on me several times and there is no off setting on the purifier all you can do is set the fan at 0 which essentially turns the fan off but leaves the unit running. This is also the case on the unit itself so off button you can just turn the fan off. Because there is no off button I have accidentally left the a t the lowest setting just because I don’t move it over to 0 or the physical button reads my touch and extra time and goes from 0 to one since it is touch capacitive. Overall the purifier is great and works well the software just needs some more work.
