    The Oster Self cleaning juicer is actually a centrifugal juicer. Centrifugal juicers use a spinning strainer to separate the juice from the pulp through tiny holes in the strainer. There is also a flat blade at the bottom of the strainer to help shred the food. The spinning strainer makes a powerful centrifuge that forces the juice through it.   Looks wise, the juicer is pretty basic in form, with the food chute and cover being a sturdy clear plastic, and the rest of the machine being a dark gray plastic, and a brushed stainless steel. The machine itself is kinda on the tall side, when compared to most of my other counter appliances. It's about 18.5" tall, the same height as my cabinets. So it fits pretty snug, fully assembled. luckily, you can lose some of the height by leaving it disassembled. Without the food pusher and lid, the height is 17 inches. If you wanted to get creative, with the height savings, you could turn the food chute upside down, and place it into the pulp reservoir ( **see photo ), this brings it down to about 13.5 inches. Although the inner parts will be exposed, so you might want to cover it with a plastic bag or something to protect it from dust. Or you could go completely without the food chute and cover, making the machine much shorter at a little over 10inches in height. The overall width and depth are acceptable at about 7.5" x 11.5", from the outermost parts of the machine. The juicer is heavy enough to stay put during use, at around 9 lbs, but still light enough to move around.Typically 800 watts is sufficient to juice most foods, but the Oster self cleaning model is equipped with a 1000 watt motor. This makes juicing very easy, and extremely quick. The juicer took only seconds to go through everything we threw at it, even whole oranges, cored apples, carrots, and celery. Even with the more powerful motor, it is still not recommended to put anything in the unit with large pits, like mangos and peaches. Believe it or not, there really isn't much actual data floating around the internet or even through their support line, about this juicers spec's.  However, based on information from similar machines, we can surmise;That the juice yield should be around 50% , obviously some fruits and veggies will have different yields than others.To increase yield percentages, you can try soaking some foods in water overnight, to soften and boost the yield. This juicer has 2 speeds, a lower speed for soft fruits, and a high speed for thicker fruits, and vegetables.The high speed setting runs between 10000RPM to 14000RPM (some of Oster's similar models were reported to run at 14000rpm )The low speed setting sounds like it is definitely less than half of the high speed, probably closer to 70% to 80% slower. There is a lot of misleading information about the actual nutrient retention from juicing, and the processes involved.The truth of the matter is that there really hasn't been a lot of credible studies done to prove any claims. The research would have to be pretty extensive, to include the different types of juiced items, and then even though there are only 3 types of juicing processes, there are tons of different machines for each process that could yield different results. What we do know is that there are a lot of nutrients passed on to the actual juice, and even some in the leftover pulp and typically discard materials.  The juice must be consumed in less than 24 hours before it oxidizes, actually the sooner the better because some nutrients actually lose their potency the longer the juice sits around. Do not use continuously for 5 minutes or longer, as it may get too heated. Allow the machine to cool off a little bit, before continuing.   Every time before you begin adding items to the juicer, allow the unit to run for 10 seconds before dropping any food items in. Large pits, like mangos,and peaches can damage the unit, so be sure to remove those before placing the item in the machine. Not all fruits or vegetables contain juice, like avocados and bananas. These items can clog the machine and cause possible damage.They can still be added to any drink afterwards, or by combining everything with the juice in a blender. If you are unsure what fruits or veggies to not juice, you can do an internet search. In a quick general search, they also do not suggest juicing blueberries, cherries, or mangos. It's actually a really good idea to search for more information regarding what items you are going to juice. I also discovered that several websites say that putting whole apples in a juicer is a bad idea, because the seeds can contain amygdalin, which could be harmful to our digestive systems. Keep in mind that juices contain the majority of the food's sugars, so keep that in mind, if you are diabetic. While homemade juices usually contain less sugars than store bought juices, it's still a good idea to try to balance out your juice items to get a good mix of sweetness and nutrients. Depending on what combination of fruits or vegetables is used for your juice, you can take the left over fiber and pulp and use it in soups or added flavor on deserts. Some people even like to add some of the pulp back into the juice. The Self cleaning feature works pretty good, but it is specifically for the filter/strainer. Which actually is one of the harder things on a juicer to clean, because of all the sharp points, and how materials clog in it. After the self cleaning is completed, it takes 5 seconds to take the chute and cover off to clean the rest. Most of the removable parts can be cleaned in a dishwasher too.  Overall this juicer has been pretty great, it's super fast at making any juice, the collection cup even has a little divider in it to seperate the froth from the actual juice, for a clean finished product. The 3" food chute is large enough to accommodate many whole foods, and makes things quicker. The self cleaning feature keeps the filter clean and free of clogs. It comes apart in seconds for cleaning the rest of the unit (and these parts are dishwasher safe). The juicer has been pretty fun to use, and experiment with. It's nice to have more control over what goes into (or stays out of) the juice my family drinks!

    Self-Cleaning Juiciness

    --- SETUP --- The setup for the Oster Juicer is quick. I used a knife to open the box and remove the pre-assembled machine. From there, remove all of the plastic and protective cardboard and you are good to go. --- FEATURES --- The main feature of this juicer is that it has a self-cleaning option. Aside from that, the chute where the fruit goes is considerably wide. --- PERFORMANCE --- The performance of the juicer is wonderful. For our first use, we juiced 2 carrots, several slices of pineapple, 2 peaches, and 2 cucumbers. The machine is a bit noisy but that was expected. None of the fruits or vegetables had any trouble going down the chute once pushed down. The pitcher can fit a lot of juice, and the pulp receptacle is deep and can capture a lot of it. It was a bit confusing when trying to use the self-cleaning feature, but I eventually figured out that there is an arrow on the pusher that should aim on the right side of the machine to juice or the left side of the machine to self-clean. The cleaning function runs for 25 seconds rinsing the metal filter. All it cleans is the metal filter that separates the pulp from the juice. It makes it so that the filter can then just be rinsed and stored faster. However, you still have to take care of removing the pulp from the pulp receptacle which is the easier part of cleaning any juicer. When storring, you can dismantle the unit and it occupies less space. --- EXPECTATIONS --- The product meets my expectations but there are a few areas where it can improve. For example, the main unit feels sturdy. The pulp receptacle, however, is loose towards the bottom and I couldn’t get it to connect properly with the base. It doesn’t affect the proper use of the juicer, but compared to how tight everything else fits, it was noticeable. The spout includes a drip stopper. However, the drip stopper has a cutout hole in it. When I put it on, it did stop the dripping, but eventually it accumulated in the stopper, overflowed, and continued to drip through the hole. I thought it was an interesting choice to put a hole there. As far as the self-cleaning, once you figure it out, it's a breeze to do. --- VALUE --- The price for the juicer is very approachable, especially for it being a professional juice extractor. --- APPROVAL --- I highly recommend this product for people who want to live a healthier lifestyle without having to worry about taking an excessive time cleaning the filter in the juicer.

    Nice Unit for a Beginner

    In the past, I was intrigued by juicers. People who I knew that used them swore by them. One even lost weight drinking fresh, homemade juice. I would talk myself out of buying one, though. So, when I had the change to test the Oster Stainless Steel Self-Cleaning Professional Juice Extractor, I jumped at the chance. It comes nearly fully assembled. The unit is quite attractive on the counter. It will match any other stainless appliances that you may have in your kitchen. It is a bit heavy, though, so I wouldn’t plan on moving this from, say, a lower cabinet when not in use, to the counter. I had a hard time picking a recipe for my first foray into juicing. I didn’t want anything too complicated nor did I want to buy out the produce section for my trial. I chose a simple Spinach Apple Juice drink. The recipe called for 1 bunch of spinach, 2 apples (make sure you remove all seeds and stems from your apples; otherwise they will release small amounts of cyanide), and half a lemon. Well, silly me, I tried to recall the recipe from memory, and I thought it called for 2 lemons. My lemons were quite small, so I used 4, along with the 2 apples, and 2 handfuls of spinach. I cut up the fruit into wedges and tried to take the bulk of rind off the lemon before putting into the chute. The food chute is quite large, and I had no issues with the juicer grinding things up. The juice was extracted easily. It didn’t yield much; approx. one serving, as the photos show. The glass I used is violet and holds 16 oz. The juice itself was green. The juice turned out super tart, which is expected when you use 4 lemons instead of a half. I tried adding about a half tsp. of sugar to it and it still was too tart. The next step was to clean the unit. I followed the instructions to use the cleaning feature on the juicer. It’s easy to do – you fill the pusher with water as directed, turn the dial to cleaning mode, and it will run water through the machine. Now, this is not a thorough clean. It flushes water through the unit, but your parts won’t come all the way clean. At least, mine didn’t. The stainless basket was mostly clean, which some residue left, which you can see in the photo. It was easy to take apart, though, so I will plan on washing the parts later. This is a very nice juicer for a beginner like me. I just will need to learn how to adjust the ingredients to make a more edible product next time. {smile}

    Having owned traditional juicers before I was wary of the "self cleaning" claims on the packaging so I decided to give it a try. The package includes Styrofoam inserts which peeves me a bit since I have to find a way to recycle the leftover chunks of Styrofoam since I always try to recycle all packaging from items I purchase. The device itself is a blend of stainless steel and gray plastic. It looks good on my counter and the footprint isn't too large like my previous one. In use the juicer works beautifully. It has a wide chute so that you can use larger chunks of fruits/vegetables. Now on to the self cleaning claims... It should be noted that the self cleaning applies only to the filter portion. But that's OK since that is usually the hardest part to clean in a conventional juicer. By filling the reservoir with water, when you are done juicing, you can follow the procedure and 25 seconds later the filter assembly is mostly clean. Depending on what you are juicing, you might need to do additional cleaning. But that's OK with me since other parts need cleaning after use like the chute, bowl, under the filter and the juice carafe. I should mention that I have cut my fingers and skinned my knuckles before cleaning my old juicer so a bit of extra cleaning is worth saving my fingers and skin. I would recommend getting a soft bristle plastic brush to help clean the filter assembly more thoroughly, as well as soaking the components to help remove residue and pulp from the parts. I did smell a bit of "electric" overheating (not quite smoke but noticeable nevertheless) but it must've been the beets or carrots I was using that might've been a bit hard. So far I have juiced beets, carrots, oranges, grapefruits, apples and a few berries without complaint other than the odor. Overall I'm pleased with this device and plan to continue to try extracting different types of juices from herbs, fruits and vegetables.

    The Oster Self-Cleaning Juice Extractor is a professional grade juicer with some remarkable features tucked under its sleeves! Having previously owned juicers, I was naturally drawn to this model primarily for the self-cleaning feature. It is powered by a 1000 watt dual-speed motor, housed in stainless steel construction for added durability. The food chute is large enough for whole average-sized oranges. Partially assembled in the box, the main components are as listed below: • Food Pusher with Compartment for Auto-Clean • Food Chute and Juice Extractor Cover (single unit which houses mechanism for Auto-Clean) • Stainless Steel Filter • Filter Basket with Anti-Drip Adjustable Rubber Sleeve • Stainless Steel Motor Base Housing with Stainless Steel Locking Arm • Large Pulp Collector Container • 1.25-Liter Jar with Lid and Froth Separator • User Guide with Recipes My first rodeo with the unit involved about eight oranges, one ginger root and a pineapple. Prep entailed peeling the oranges while the pineapple and ginger got sliced into manageable pieces for the food chute. The low speed was enough power for my purpose. Both speed settings are not intolerably loud, given the 1000 watt motor employed. The large and very sturdy food pusher helped facilitate easy delivery to the extractor’s blades. I also noticed that the motor is rather intelligent and ramps up torque when necessary for the task at hand. I had to empty the generous 40-ounce jar once through the entire process. The anti-drip rubber sleeve provides convenience and helps minimizes any mess while you empty the jar. Impressively, Oster has managed to drastically minimize the typical disassembly hassle juicers tend to have. This unit is very easy to disassemble and reassemble. Prior to disassembly after use, the food pusher, the food chute and juice extractor cover work together to help clean the stainless steel filter; this is achieved via the Auto-Clean mode. In the past, I have laboriously used brushes to clean the filters of other juicers. The Auto Clean feature of the Oster Self-Cleaning Juice Extractor is definitely worth every penny in my opinion as it literally performs about 95 percent of the task; I did run a sponge over the serrated blades and then the whole filter under running water to get it totally clean. The other parts of the extractor will require the typical cleaning or wiping down. I am more than satisfied with the performance of the Oster Self-Cleaning Juice Extractor. Besides the Auto-Clean highlight (and easy disassembly/assembly of components), I have no doubt it is solidly built and will serve for many years to come.

    I've heard juicers aren't worth the effort but fresh juice with no cleanup sounded too good to pass up. The phrase "Self Cleaning" is plastered all over the product description and the packaging but there is more to the story. The "self-cleaning" and "hands free" claims only apply to the filter that grinds down the item being juiced. That means there are 7 other parts that need a level of cleaning from a wipe down to a big mess. This was entirely disappointing. The Oster does a fine job of extracting juice. The first night we had it we did bananas, blackberries, plums, apples and grapes. Each was delicious although banana juice was pretty thick. You need to get the press down quickly as we had several instances of pulp flying out as the kids were dropping fruit in. I was satisfied with the amount of juice that came from each ingredient. For reference, we got 1/2 cup of juice out of 1 medium apple. As this is my first juice extractor, I have no reference for comparison but I doubt there was much juice that the Oster missed as the leftover pulp was fairly dry. Once the juice party was over, the reality of the cleanup job became apparent. 8 parts to clean and several of them were very dirty. Yes, the metal filter was "mostly" clean but still had to be wiped off while the rest of the machine had to be taken apart and washed in the sink. Does the Oster make juice? Absolutely. Is it self cleaning? One part is. The rest? Not by a long shot. Plan on juicing for a few seconds and cleaning for the next 10 minutes. Is the hassle worth it for a glass of juice? Not to me but if it is to you, the Oster will definitely make juice.

    I tend to use more fresh juice than those bottled in the market. It tastes different besides the convenience to drink juice anytime fresh and less-worried about having bottled juice in the fridge and have to keep tracking the expiration date. Advantages are, high-power (dual speed) extractor to the extend I have my first cup of citrus juice in 30 seconds, well-weighted and does not move or slide off when being operated, assembling and disassembling parts are easy and smartly designed, self-cleaning is ONLY for the blade and the dripping nozzle, side bin to collect the pulp, in addition to sleek looking. One disadvantage is size-related. Apparently it is big to be stored on my pantry shelf and had to place on the countertop. My overall personal opinion it is a great choice considering quality and performance and added more ascetic touch to my other stainless kitchen appliances.

    Very good Juice Extractor. Very high power, does the extraction in seconds. Easy assemble and easy removal to clean. It comes with instructions manual and you will find recipes for few items. I assembled it in maybe just 2-3 mins. It has 3 modes, 2 fast modes and one self cleaning mode. If i want a glass of carrot juice, I need to put lots of carrot in it i can not really add water or milk like how i do it in blendtec, of course this is juice extractor and i should not compare apples with oranges i get that. Self cleaning technology is only for blade cleaning not for juicer. I was thinking i do not need to clean the juicer after i use self cleaning mode, but it is not like, Self cleaning mode cleaning only the blade. I was little disappointed :), I still need to open everything and clean it, if i clean every thing else..blade cleaning does not matter it can be done as well. This is just my opinion. Finally, It is good juicer no doubt, I really liked extraction power it does the job in seconds. But you can escape from cleaning :).

    Such a disappointment!

    I was looking forward to making some great juice with this juicer! Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed after using it. I have used a few different juicers over the years and I’d probably have to say this one is the worst I have used. One of the other juicers that I have used previously and really liked is another centrifugal juicer from a leading brand that makes juicers and is in a similar price range (around $150 retail). I tested this Oster juicer by making a very simple juice with 3 ingredients: apple, carrots, and cucumber. I expected it should do fine with those ingredients as they have with the other centrifugal juicers I have used. Leafy greens do not process very well in centrifugal juicers in general, so I did use those to make my juice. The outcome from this machine was quite a disappointment. The juice that I got from this juicer was WAY too pulpy. I literally had to get a spoon and scoop pulp out of the juice. Then, it was more bearable but still WAY too pulpy. I have attached a picture of my glass where you can see the pulp sticking to the side of my glass. I also let the juice sit for a little while and you can see how the pulp and actual juice separated in the picture. Compared to the similarly priced leading brand juicer I tried, the difference in amount of pulp and overall juice quality is night and day. The other leading brand of juicer I used created actual pure juice with almost no pulp! The juice from this juicer just had too much pulp in my opinion. I shouldn’t have to scoop some pulp out of the top of the juice just to make it drinkable. Another disappointment with this product was the pulp that I found in the pulp basket. This product not only did a poor job of separating pulp from juice, but it also did a poor job at making full use of the apple and vegetables I juiced. I have attached an image of whole chunks of vegetables and fruit that it failed to process when I made my juice. I NEVER had this issue with the other leading brand juicer I have mentioned. While the other juicer did have fairly wet pulp, it never left whole chunks of hard vegetables like I experienced with this juicer. What a waste of fruits and vegetables!! The pulp this juicer produced was also very wet, so it seems to do an overall poor job at extracting the juice well. The one thing I did like with this juicer was the auto clean technology. It did take some figuring out to understand how to do it, but once I did use it, it did do a great job at cleaning the stainless steel filter. I have included a picture of the outcome from the auto clean. It certainly is nice to be able to quickly and easily clean the filter. That being said, I wouldn’t say that cleaning the filter by hand was ever a huge deal with a proper brush, which was included with the other juicers I have used. While the auto clean is a nice feature, it is more of a novelty in my opinion. The most important part to me is making good juice, and unfortunately this product did not live up to its primary purpose. Oster should focus on making a good juicer before trying to add extra features like this. Additionally, the juicer was very noisy when I did the auto clean, and the food pusher makes a lot of noise, particularly if it is in the food chute when the juicer is stopping. Now, if you want lots of pulp in your juice and you don’t care if the juicer wastes some fairly big chunks from the items you juice, maybe this juicer would be fine for you. Overall, this juicer was a real disappointment for me and I would not recommend it unless the pulp and chunks are not a concern for you. Maybe this juicer could do ok with making orange juice if that is all you plan to use it for. I do like some pulp in my orange juice, so it is possible that this could do ok with orange juice if you like a good amount of pulp. I did not test making orange juice though, so I can't comment on that from trying it. Ultimately, I would NOT recommend this juicer, and if you want juice with little to no pulp, this is definitely NOT the right juicer for you. For just a little more money at retail price, the leading brand juicer I used in the past did a significantly better job at extracting juice and separating pulp from the fruits and vegetables I used.

    Great for juicing but i will say to not to use it for too long because it starts getting a burning smell like its being over used, especially when juicing beets carrots and apples

    Excellent juice extractor. Resistant and ample capacity to extract the juice. It can be used with various types of fruits and vegetables. I recommend it for a family of 4 people and up.
