Uniquely shaped robot vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Neato D9 Intelligent Robot Vacuum is a uniquely-shaped vacuum that does a good job cleaning both hardwoods and carpet but is not quite as good as I hoped with connectivity and pathfinding. Out of the box, the D9 feels lighter than some of the other robot vacuums I have owned in the past; it weighed in at 8 pounds. But it still seems to be durable and I have no doubt it can handle the bumps that come with the job. I do like the aesthetics of the D9. It has a brushed metallic look with minimal buttons on top. It comes with a charging base, a six ft cord, 2 extra ultra-filters (1 is already installed), and a brush cleaning tool. Please note that the filters are not HEPA filters. I let the unit charge while I got setup online with the myneato app. The unit was in a good location relatively near my router, but it seemed to stuggle to connect even though I made sure to connect it to my 2.4ghz signal. The unit does seem very dependent on the app to operate which is a little disappointing. On the other hand, it makes getting a firmware update pretty easy. Once it was ready, I had it begin to sweep. As it went, it used LIDAR technology to navigate around my rooms and the mapping became visible on my app. It seems to run in an Eco mode to preserve battery unless it detects a particularly dirty area, in which case it switches to a turbo mode. The unique D-Shape does help get into corners. It is one of the best aspects of the D9. The downside is that the front straight edge can make the unit get stuck a bit easier, or at least run into more objects. Rounded robot vacuums can almost spin or rotate around chair legs, for example. The D9 seemed to handle this OK. It got lost a couple times. It also seemed to lose connection to the wifi a couple times, too. As far as cleaning, it did very well on hardwoods and OK on carpets. Based on the cleaning abilities I have seen from other robot vacuums I have owned, I would say this is expected. What it did clean, it cleaned well. I also noticed that it was very quiet in eco mode which is very nice if you have it running at night or during the day and you work from home. The D9 will automatically head back to the base for a recharge when ready. The amount of time it will run on a single charge is going to vary based on how much carpet you have and how many objects you have on the floor that is has to navigate around. It seemed to be able to do a full run of my house but the charge was about gone once finished. One interesting aspect is that because of the squared-off end it seemed to have a wider brush than other robot vacuums. Overall, I think that the D9 fits in a tier just below the top of the line robot vacuums. It still does a fine job, but it is some of the smaller issues (like getting lost a couple times) that keep it from being great.

Cleans well but will miss some spots
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: -Does a good job of mapping the rooms -Zone cleaning -Strong suction Con: -Doesn’t clean corners -Motor is loud -Can get stuck on furniture **I had an issue with the vacuum rebooting throughout the day, and it turns out to be due to wifi channel switching handled by the router, a common feature that routers have. It seemed to be a specific case and went away after I tried a different router, but it’s something worth mentioning. I think this vacuum is good overall. It has good cleaning power and is good at navigating itself around each room. The smart mapping is pretty accurate, but it will still leave some spots uncleaned. It’s also a little loud while running. The app is straightforward and cleaning zones can be set up. Cleaning Overall it does a good job of detecting the parameter and avoiding objects. On the initial run, it will follow the walls while mapping out the area, then it will start cleaning the area in a linear pattern. If it hits an object, it will correct itself and does a good job to navigate around it, but sometimes it will climb up on furniture parts, like table legs, and get stuck. Once the cleaning is done, it will return to the base and shimmy itself back to the base. Most of the time it will do it by itself, but sometimes it will keep bumping against the base or pushing the base away. The motor is also on the loud side, sounding like a R/C car running around. The cleaning power is strong enough to pick up pet hair and small debris from a carpeted room. However, it doesn’t clean corners well, or at all. It will turn away from corners leaving about 1’-2’ of space untouched. It also doesn’t clean right up to the walls. It takes about 15 mins to clean a small bedroom, with a battery life of about 2 hours. Setting up and the app Initial setup was very easy with the Neato app. The app user experience is okay. You can start cleaning remotely, see your cleaning summary, and set up schedules easily. You can also assign cleaning zones. Right now you only get one map which will update after each cleaning. To set up each zone, you tap to create a new zone and assign it either Clean or No-Go. It worked well enough. There were a few instances that the app lost connection while the vacuum was running and needing a restart. Maintenance Upkeep isn’t too bad. The dust bin is easy to clean and the filters are easily removed. There’s extra filters included and each will last up to 2 months. Cleaning the brush does require it to be removed and using the included comb to clean it. The brush will last 6-8 months. The battery needs to be changed once a year.

Great addition to your smart home.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don’t like vacuuming. To me it’s a mundane task to accomplish. The room gets clean, dust gets taken out of your carpets and hardwood floors get a revamp if you have the proper equipment. I’ve always been a tech guru ever since I’ve been a child and I love taking the easy route. Automation to me is the key to a successful piece of tech. That and how useful it is in our day-to-day use. I’ve never been more in love with something that can’t reciprocate and is made of plastic and metal. The Neato Vacuum gets three thumbs up from me if i had an extra opposable thumb. The application that it requires tracks the thing around your home and gives you a detailed map of where it travelled as well as being able to set a zone where it doesn’t clean. The Neato Vacuum doesn’t talk back back after you’ve sent it on a mission to eradicate all dust related messes. It goes out there and does it until it can’t or learns your complete floorplan. Cleaning this machine is a breeze with the included blade that stores neatly behind the docking station. It has a small filter and small dustpan that needs to be cleaned in regular intervals. And last but not least it backs up into the docking station and wiggles into position and charges itself. I can spend a good hour just staring at it. I’ve dubbed my Neato Vacuum after my favorite Disney movie robot.

"Intelligent" may be wrong term, and poor Wi-Fi
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box, you get the impression the Neato D9 is designed more like a full size/power vacuum than the typical vacuum robot I've used, the brush looks more significant in size and position. The battery life is claimed as 200 minutes on the box, that's likely based on what you get in "eco mode" (the default). Our house has two floors, it only took 27 minutes to do 75% (one room was closed) of the downstairs of our house, which it did in eco mode using only 11% of its battery. Be aware, when you set it up, it wants twelve inches on any side of its charging area clear, so you'll need to make sure you have a space with some clearance. I had placed it beside two other robot vacuums in close quarters and it wound up getting into a sort of crash where its wheels were up in the air on top of its charging dock (No one was home when the crash happened, we were out getting lunch). While running in the living/dining rooms on turbo mode, it drove head on straight into a cardboard shiny/reflective-print box (flat side of the Neato D9 to it) and just kept pushing straight into it for more than 3 minutes (not moving anywhere) until I paused it. It was clear it was just going to keep going until its battery died if I didn't stop it. This is a big negative because this (and the earlier mentioned crash) means I cannot really leave this thing cleaning without babysitting it. The neato robot had many issues connecting to my Wi-Fi (and we have a good signal on a 3-node mesh network, including one node 5 -8 feet from the robot's charging dock), but when I moved the vacuum closer to the main mesh router node (wired router) it seemed to work okay or at least downloaded the firmware successfully. While it was cleaning, I saw the app say the robot was "Offline" more than a few times (more often than it said it was online) but it came back online and continued cleaning the whole time regardless. When I was pairing it with WiFi, sometimes it could see all three of our SSIDs (from 5 routers, 3 of which are meshed together under one SSID) plus neighbors' Wi-Fi systems, and other times it saw zero networks anywhere. When it ran the first time, it banged into a lot of wood furniture surprisingly hard (it made noise of plastic hitting wood). I didn't expect that because it claimed to have laser mapping and I expected the laser to help it avoid obstacles. It got tangled up in wires once (my fault for leaving them in its path). It also didn't go under tables (between legs of chairs) to clean like some of our other bots do. The dust bin at the end of each of 3 runs filled "maybe" 5% of the dustbin each time (we do vacuum every day normally, so this may be good). I'm not unhappy with how it cleans. Again, overall, this cleans well, but my main negatives about it are (1) Wi-Fi quality seems poor (and Wi-Fi is mandatory at least the first time to download firmware updates), (2) It cannot be left alone (it gets into crashes (did once anyway) or drives blindly straight ahead when it's against a flat surface (again, once so far), and (3) it seems to crash into objects it should be able to avoid.

Cleaner Extraordinaire
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do you like manually sweeping and cleaning your floors every few days? Did you answer no? Then there is a solution for you! Enter the Neato Robotics D9 Intelligent Wi-Fi robot. This thing is a beast, when you get it out of the box it has some weight to it! It took about 30 minutes to set up and get apps and everything going then it needed to do its charge. Once that was all said and done it did its fun job of going around and getting to know my house and rooms. It wasnt very loud as it was moving, but was audible enough that I could tell it was working in the background. I set up its schedule and had it going about its way. Once I was away at work, my wi-fi went out due to a storm so I came home and the robot was sitting in the middle of the floor. That was the only downside, but under normal Wi-Fi- and power conditions this thing cleaned like a champ! The floors were cleaned very well and all the debris was gone! Taking the dirt away was simple as well. I highly recommend this robot if you are wanting an automated cleaner.

Very powerful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to invest on this vacuum because I have a severe allergy to dust and I need a device that can seriously clean. Not disappointed, the D9 is super powerful and even cleans corners as they claim. I had a Shark before and I always had to manually clean the spaces it couldn't reach. The D9 gets all the dust and dirt. It works amazingly both on carpet and wood floors. I was actually very impressed on how well it cleaned my very old carpet. My only complaint is that they are not offering a self-emptying base. However the tank capacity of the Neato is quite impressive. I haven't had to empty it yet and it's been a week. All in all, very happy with the vacuum.

A Nice Well-Built Robot Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As I have never had a robot vacuum, I wasn't quite sure what to expect with the Neato Robotics D9 Intelligent Wi-Fi Connected Vacuum. It arrived very nicely packaged and in perfect condition. The Neato vacuum comes with an easy to follow users manual that simplified the setup process. A Neato software application needs to be downloaded and installed on your cell phone to remotely control the Neato. The 8 pound Neato vacuum comes packaged with a complete Neato unit, two replacement filters, a charging station with corded plug and a cleaning com and is pet-hair capable. The vacuum's run time between charges is a maximum of 200 minutes in Eco mode (a Turbo mode is also available.) Charging time is 100 minutes. The Neato unit self-charges when it's battery is low by moving back to the charging unit and docking with it. The "D" shaped front/forward panel allows the Neato vacuum to clean along straight edges very nicely compared to its round-shaped competitors. The Neato uses a ladar laser to assist it in mapping the areas to be cleaned. It also includes a "cliff" sensor to prevent it from falling down stairs. The Neato also can be voice controlled using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. It can also be setup to avoid "no go" zones. The unit vacuums a 12 inch path, seems solid and very well built. The only issue I have had with my Neato is that the front corner spinner doesn't always work which doesn't seem like a big deal.
