Customers are saying

Customers highly value the V15 Detect Cordless Vacuum's powerful suction, long battery life, and ease of use. Many appreciate the laser-assisted cleaning and lightweight design, while some find the price to be a significant drawback. Other minor concerns include the need to continuously hold the trigger and the relatively small dustbin capacity.

Upgraded to this over our old V7 and it was a big jump forward. The laser seems like a gimmick, but it is actually very helpful in big open hardwood areas. The suction and general pickup power is very good and starting to get close to plug-in vacuums. The only downside is the weight of the head is a little too much for doing a lot of work with just the handle and not the full assembly.

This vacuum is light, easy to handle and store. And really cleans. Is is so satisfying to actually see the dirt, hair, dust and whatever disappear. As someone said it is like painting clean on the floor. Cleaning upholstery, it works just as well with the attachment for upholstery. The difference is amazing.

If you are hesitant about buying a cordless vacuum, let me put your mind at ease! This Dyson V15 Detect is amazing. We have two cats, one of which is a pure bred Maine Coon with long, “cotton candy hair.” The Dyson powers through with little effort. On Auto, the battery lasts through our entire house cleaning with time to spare. Best Christmas gift ever!

The Dyson V15 Detect is one impressive cordless

OK…first things first. I have never owned a cordless vacuum other than the little hand-held units for cleaning up cereal that a toddler drops. I have used a couple of full-size cordless vacuums at other people’s houses and was never impressed. That said, knowing the Dyson reputation for quality vacuums, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I found it hard to believe that a cordless unit would have the power to truly clean anything other than superficial large particles. Boy was I wrong… This thing is impressive. There are pros and cons, but overall, I think it’s a fantastic unit. Plus, bonus points to Dyson for making it look like a super legit laser gun when you take all of the attachments off of it. My wife’s first comment was, “Well, if nothing else it will make a cool Halloween costume accessory”. Ya…it looks cool. OK…Let’s dive in. The packaging was extensive. Every part is well seated in its own protective layer of some type. They definitely spent some time in package engineering. That’s a good thing. It gives me confidence that the unit hasn’t been beaten up too badly by poor handling. Assembly is super simple. You just snap the attachments onto the main unit and you are good to go. They are really easy to connect and remove. Simply push the bright red button and they easily slide apart. Swapping out attachments is a breeze. It comes with 2 power heads, crevice tool, a cool conical shaped smaller power head for hair and tight spaces, and a couple of attachments with brushes on them. I can see myself using most of these attachments over time, so I’d say they got the right mix of function in that area. You can store 2 extra attachments on the long stick of the vacuum, and 2 more on the wall mounted charging station. I’m not quite sure where I’m going to keep the others…. Don’t forget to charge the until before you use it. It takes like 4.5 hours, so don’t plan on whipping that sucker out of the box and going to town on your floors. I know, I know…some of you will really struggle to not clean for 4.5 hours /eyeroll. Suction…. boy does this thing have suction. I mean, my 16-year-old just happened to be sitting on the couch the first time I ran this thing. They said “Geez Dad, it is lifting the carpet off the floor”. She wasn’t kidding. This thing will pull the spots off of a Dalmatian. It was really impressive. It’s just as powerful as my full sized upright…maybe more so. We vacuum regularly, but with 4 long haired people, a dog, and an evening popcorn habit that probably needs counseling, our carpet is never spotless. That said, I had just vacuumed the night before and everything looked pretty clean. I was surprised to find that the canister was full after just the living room! And not just with hair, but lots of very fine dust. I looked down at the vacuum and it said that it had picked up almost exclusively at the allergen level. Ya…that’s a cool feature. It keeps tabs on what it is sucking up and shows you a little graph on the display so you know large the particles are that it is sucking up. I had to dump the bin twice to do 3 rooms even when I thought the floors were pretty clean to begin with. Ewww… The bin is fairly small since they are trying to save weight and improve suction in a cordless unit, but still…I was impressed. After I had done the carpets, I switched to the hard floor cleaning head and tried it out on the hardwood floors in one of the bedrooms. This unit has a cool green laser that shines out in front of the vacuum. It illuminates all of the “stuff” on the floor. I was really surprised to see so much dust when the floors “looked” clean. After a run through a bedroom and the kitchen, I had a surprising amount of dust in the bin. It definitely cleans. And apparently, I suck as cleaning my floors…thanks for making me self-conscious Dyson… Finally, I decided to give the small conical hair head a try on the carpeted stairs up to the 2nd story. I hate cleaning stairs. I hate fighting large vacuums and cords on stairs. So, I don’t clean then as often as I do other flat surfaces. This thing is great! It was easy to handle and that little power head did a good job of getting up close to the baseboard and into the corners. It’s not perfect, I’ll still need to use the crevice tool once in a while, but it does a fine job. Oh…and my stairs were gross…I didn’t know it, but I had an entire bin of dust and dog hair on my stairs that I couldn’t even see. Oops… Dumping the bin is super simple. Just remove the attachments, put the main unit over the trash can, and push the red ejector button. The end flips open, the canister slides down (but not off) on a rail, and everything falls into the trash. Slide it back up and close the end cap. Done. The unit is surprisingly lightweight and quiet. I had no trouble managing it. It is a little different feel than I am used to. The brush heads are very lite. That mean all of the weight is in your hand. It’s well balanced, but it does mean that you need some forearm/grip strength to handle this unit. Nothing an average person would struggle with, but if you are severe arthritis or some other medical challenge, just know what you are getting. As I mentioned early on, it does come with a wall hanging unit so you can just drop it in the slot and it starts charging. I haven’t put that up yet. Not quite sure where I want a vacuum hanging. You don’t have to use it to charge the unit. You can just plug it directly into the charger without using the wall hanger. The battery life is great. You can get about an hour out of a full charge. It doesn’t lose suction as the batter drains. This is a learning machine, so it adjusts to what it is encountering on your floors. The thinker the surface and more debris it detects, the more power it sends through the unit. This is a fantastic innovation that really saves on batter life. You do have the option to manually switch it to low, auto or boost with the button on the main unit, but I find that running it in auto does the trick. I can hear up spin up and down and as I clean based on what the vacuum is encountering. Pretty cool trick if you ask me. So, what didn’t I like? It’s a tad short. I’m 5’11”, so just and average guy. I have to bend down just a bit to use this vacuum. It’s not a huge deal, but for someone with back trouble, or who it over 6’, it might not be the best choice. When you are taller, if you try to run it at a comfortable angle, your natural motion puts too much downward force on the power head and the brush stops spinning on thicker carpet. I have to bend slightly to change that angle so there is a little less pressure where it meets the floor. Next, the all-purpose power head doesn’t really have wheels, so it takes a little more elbow grease than I expected to push and pull the unit over the carpet. Between the lack of wheels and the super suction power, it really grips the carpet. I’m OK with that because I can see how much stuff it is picking up. Just know that it isn’t going to glide across your carpet light some angelic cleaning implement straight from beyond the pearly gates. It is lightweight, but it does start to feel heavy after several rooms. I believe it’s a function of having all of the weight in my hand rather than spread across the entire vacuum. This is by no means a deal breaker because I love the convenience of cordless power, but I will probably split up cleaning days so I don’t have to run it continuously for 45 minutes. Wait a minute...what am I saying…I have kids...I’ll just make them do the cleaning. I think that’s about it. I hope you’ve found this review helpful.
