Good mapping
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love our J7 Roomba. Packaged nicely and comes with an extra brush and filter, but no extra tower bags, which oddly enough the tower takes two bags. A quick start manual tells you plug it in then the download the app and off you go. The app is missing key features like vacuum speed I’m not sure why there is no setting for this. Other than that the app allows you to set a schedule etc. The vacuum works ok and goes over tile and rugs. It is very quiet until it’s done cleaning and empties in the tower which is extremely loud and annoying. Anyways decent vac. The reason you should consider this J7 is not because the vac power or the app, but because of the map. Robot vacs always take a few tries to get your floor plan memorized. This one is no exception to that but it maps much better than other vacuums we have had. Consequently, the robot runs into less stuff and knows corners etc to clean more efficiently. The excellent mapping on this vacuum gives me peace of mind to just let it run while I’m not home. It has not got stuck once. Not even once. All robot vacuums clean ok and have quirks (loud empty to tower and two tower bags come on) but you should consider this one if you want to set a schedule and let it do it’s thing with peace of mind

It lets you know what it is doing, when it needs something, or if something went wrong. The cleaning job is fantastic and I have literally 0 complaints about this product! The Cadillac of Robot Vacuums
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While iRobot may have popularized robot vacuums, it seems like everyone makes one these days, and at every conceivable price point. Having used both a Deebot-branded robot and an iRobot Roomba i3 in the past year, I was very curious to see what iRobot's latest entry could do. I was overall pleased with the performance of the i3 I used previously, but found that I couldn't always trust running it while I wasn't home. It cleaned the floors effectively and avoided larger obstacles, but struggled with complex layouts, shiny chrome chair legs and cords. I dreaded getting a "Roomba is Stuck" message on my phone while I was out as it meant the vacuuming would not be done when I got home. Enter the j7 line -- while similar in design and power to the i3 line, the j7 includes a camera on the front of the robot designed to help it find and avoid obstacles, especially the ever-pesky dog doodoo. The j7 include iRobot's latest machine-learning power, able to detect and avoid a variety of obstacles as well as build a smart map of your home with clean zones, keep out zones, room labels and the like. The j7+ also includes iRobot's latest Clean Base, which automatically empties the robot's dust bin into a vacuum bag while the robot is docked and charging. Setup was a breeze, even easier than the i3 due to the inclusion of Bluetooth LE. The first run of the j7 took nearly an hour, during which it began building a smart map of my home. After running this first "cleaning mission" the iRobot app allowed me to send the j7 on a "mapping mission" during which it did not vacuum but instead focused on building a more complete map of my space. After the mapping mission, the app presented me with an editable Smart Map, allowing me to adjust room boundaries, label rooms and add Clean Zones and Keep Out Zones. Using the iRobot app is a breeze and worked nearly flawlessly. After a third run of the j7 I found the map to be highly accurate, and I was able to add a Clean Zone outside my cat's litter box. Even better, after encountering obstacles like cords, the j7 saved a picture that I was later able to review in the app. I was able to tell the vacuum whether the obstacle was temporary (like a forgotten sock) or permanent (like a power cord) and even direct the robot to go back and clean areas with forgotten items once I'd picked them up. In use, the j7 cleaned effectively, and got progressively faster after each run. It was clear the vacuum was learning the space, which was neat to see in real time. The j7 is brave, and got stuck twice in my testing, but after freeing it the robot was able to resume cleaning easily and remember where it was stuck so as to avoid the area. In contrast, the i3 would sometimes have trouble resuming after becoming stuck, because it would lose its place within my home. Voice control with the Google Assistant works well; I can tell j7 to clean a specific room or clean zone and have it do so with no issue. The Roomba respects the boundaries set in the app and seems to have no trouble going to and from rooms as directed. It hasn't gotten stuck on cords or curtains, either, which is something the i3 occasionally struggled with. It also finds the home base much quicker than the i3. My only real complaint with the j7 is noise. It's not a quiet machine, which iRobot says is because of how powerful the suction is. Seeing as how the j7 is a nimble navigator I have no qualms about running this while I'm not home, so this is not a big issue for me. I will say, however, that the automatic Clean Base is very loud -- some have compared it to an airplane taking off, and I concur -- so be mindful of this if you're running it while someone is sleeping. The Clean Base only makes noise for 10 seconds or so after the robot docks, so again, this can all happen while you're out of the house3, and you'll be none the wiser. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the Roomba j7+. It's a noticeable upgrade from the i3 I had before, and has no trouble with the complex layout of my apartment. While noisier than other machines, it can be set to run while you're away with little worry about getting stuck. The iRobot app works extremely well, and the Smart Map is both really cool and genuinely useful. I also appreciate iRobot's long track record of reliability, support and parts availability. It makes the high price a little easier to stomach. Overall, this really is the Cadillac of robot vacuums -- or perhaps the Volvo of robot vacuums, as it's both sleek, powerful and reliable. If you want the best money can by, this should be right at the top of your shopping list.

Big Sweaty Betty is a keeper!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Big Sweaty Betty does a great job. Betty is a hard worker. Only problem ive noticed is Betty sometimes needs to be told to go back in the room to get the edges she forgets. Betty might need glasses and memeory pills. When Betty needs to clean herself it sounds like a jet taking off for a few seconds other than that Betty is a keeper. Betty just bumps and bangs her way around to keep the house clean.

>Effective and Easy to Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The iRobot Roomba j7+ Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum is an easy to use robot vacuum system that does not require the setup of guards and automatically avoids cords and pet waste. It comes with a self emptying dirt storage bin for further ease of use. Setup was quick with the Android app. I have used robot vacuums before. The lack of need for guards, the automatic identification of cords and pet waste, and the automatic emptying of the storage bin, make the i7 much more enjoyable to use than any previous model. The more intelligent cleaning path as opposed to a random path also makes the i7 more effective.

The best vacuum I've ever had
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several Roombas over the years. All of them have had me wondering if they're really doing anything and too many times I'd come home to a robot that was either dead of hung up on some cords or debris. Even worse sometimes it would clean off limits areas due to the IR barrier lighthouse batteries dying all too often. This is not at all my usual Roomba experience. For the first time I can see myself replacing my upright vacuum and just using this. iRobot has taken everything back to the drawing board and seems to be learning from past versions. First, gone are the days of painting your entire carpet with a "surprise" from your pet. The new Roomba is outfitted with a front facing camera and onboard LED light to identify hazards both biological and inanimate and can decide, using a bit of AI, whether or not it is indeed vacuumable. The new room mapping tech works very well showing you a 2D layout of your home after its first initial run. You can then use the app to designate and name the rooms it found. After doing that, you can then tell Roomba to just clean that room only and it will go to that room, clean it, then go back to its base - all autonomously. Its very impressive. The Roomba now actually has very good suction and this time around actually is doing something. I have no doubt. This is verified by feeling the contents of the dust bag which the robot empties to after every cleaning. The auto emptying feature is really nice but I worry that since the bags need frequent replacement, cost and eventual availability of the refills might be an issue. I believe that one bag could last up to 2 months of regular 3x week use. Emptying the robot bin to the base is loud. Very loud. Louder that a traditional upright vacuum. Thankfully its not a long time and the bin is cleared in 5 to 8 seconds. Still, something to consider when placing the home base near a crib or pets bed. The robot will send you its findings via the app and if it has questions about an obstacle, it snaps a quick photo and asks you if its ok to clean that area next time or after its done you can have it "tidy up". The Roomba is Alexa friendly and can be controlled by Echos and TVs and devices outfitted with Voice Assistants built-in. I cant wait for a Roomba with both vacuuming and mopping built-in to one device (Bravo and Roomba = Broomba?) I'm sure its being worked out but until that day this Roomba is the best carpet and hard-wood floor robot you can buy.

Best Roomba Yet!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned 3 iRobot Roomba vacuums in the past, (I actually still have them all), none of them with a camera, so this is by far the best of the bunch that I have owned. While it doesn't quite avoid everything that may be in its way, it has successfully avoided cell phone cords I've left on the ground, and occasionally works itself around a dog or baby toy that gets in its way. No more banging in to walls or cabinets, and not more seemingly random trips back to the same clean spot over and over. This is my first time owning a Roomba with a mapping feature and I absolutely love it. You can see the map it creates of your home on your smartphone and then control which rooms/zones to clean. The map was definitely not perfect after the first job and took 3 or 4 more jobs to get a much more accurate map, but when compared to my previous Roombas this one ultimately, and easily, takes the crown. The self empty feature is really cool too, but it was surprisingly loud where the vacuum itself was surprisingly quiet. From what I've read online, this is common among the self emptying vacuums so its not a big deal, but it definitely scared our 11 month old when it emptied! LOL Bottom line is that, while nothing will replace the power of an upright plug in vacuum, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a vacuum that can run every day and make the need to use an upright vacuum much much less.

Prohibitively loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This vacuums well but is prohibitively loud. When it auto empties it sounds like a plane taking off and you cannot set a time for it to empty. If it runs at night it will wake you up and scare you. It also took a total of 6 hours to vacuum our house. This item was returned.
