This vacuum cleaner does an excellent job of getting up cat hair of 2 long haired cats. The cord is long enough to do two big rooms without changing outlets. The tank holds a lot.

Hey there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear you've found the Ball Animal 3 to be difficult to maneuver. If it's hard to push, keep in mind that your machine features an Anti-tangle Motorbar™ cleaner head, with suction control. We always suggest checking your manufacturers recommended cleaning instructions, for the flooring type you're cleaning. The three levels of suction are controlled by the slider on the front of the cleaner head. Slide the suction control to suit the floor type. If the machine is hard to push, use the mode on the left. If you still have any questions or concerns that we can help to address, feel free to get in touch with us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.

This vacuum is by far the best vacuum we have ever owned. The features on this vacuum are cater to some of the most important things that I have to tackle on a weekly if not daily chore. The bare floor setting is one of the features that I enjoy the most. I love this one because I can clean up crumbs in the kitchen, hair and dust off of the bathroom floor. Everyday we brush our hair, we tend to have hair that accumulates on the rug as well as the floor and this vacuum is so convenient, you just pull it out and put on the bare floor setting and you are good to go. I know this vacuum is advertised as a vacuum that helps with pet hair but even though I don't own a pet, it is still good for dust and everything else. I have throw rugs everywhere and when I went to vacuum them, it almost sucked the rug up, so in other words, this vacuum has fantastic suction. Being one that suffers from allergies, I am sure that this vacuum will provide me with the necessary suction to suck up lots of dust and dander. My only con about this vacuum is that it is very heavy. Carrying the vacuum from upstairs to downstairs is difficult so I just try to carve out a space downstairs where it is hand tube able to get to. Purchase this vacuum. you will not regret it.

I have to say this is the best corded vacuum I have ever used. Just to get it out of the way, the handle doesn't come up high and may not fit a tall person. It may adjust but I haven't really tried because it fits me well. The test for a vacuum in my mind is how well it gets the stuff on the edge of the carpet and wall and this sucks it mostly all up without having to bend down and scrape dirt out which is a huge plus. The way it moves and gets around furniture and other stuff is a breeze and it really has great suction. The cord is long which is a plus but also a pain sometimes to manage. Clearing out the dirt is easy and free of dust spraying everywhere which they have perfected over the years. It is also fairly quiet for such a powerful vacuum which was a nice surprise. I love all the attachme ts and am looking forward to years of use. It glides around so smoothly and is almost a joy to use when I need to vacuum. Looks great, well built and easy to master. One of dyson's best products in my opinion.

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is a powerful vacuum with the ability to pick up hair and fur without getting tangled in the roller. PROs - Powerful suction. Really cleans and picks up dirt from carpeting. - Roller that prevents hair and fur from getting tangled on it. If you have pets or people with long hair, this feature by itself makes the vacuum worth considering. - Cleverly designed to hold the basic accessories. - Emptying the bin is a simple push of a button on top of the canister. That means it’s easy to keep a the the canister in a bag to catch the dirt. Other machines I’ve used have a slider mechanism on the side of the canister, and that means the canister is never fully enclosed in a bag. - Fairly compact profile because the extension tube is stored inside the main hose. - The motor is quieter (though not quiet) compared to other vacuums, and does not have a high pitched whine. CONs - Power button is not as bright as the canister release button. As a result, I tended to press the canister release button. To fix this, Dyson should have moved the power button to the handle, or made it brighter than the canister release button, or made the canister release a pull trigger from underneath the canister joint. - The hooks on the handle for the power cord angles out. As a result, if you have not unspooled the entire cord, the cord has a tendency to fall out of the hooks when vacuuming. You have to make sure the cord is wrapped snuggly. This is the main reason I rate it 4 instead of 5 stars. Given Dyson's attention to detail, I'm surprised by this. - The cord does not self retract. It's one feature I miss from another vacuum I have. - No paper manual - have to download it from the internet. Some basic paper instructions are included, but they're not very useful. Dyson makes premium products and have a price to go with that. But I've yet to own of their products that did not justify the price.

Hello Gabe, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've found the quality of your Ball Animal 3 to be disappointing. Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS, which is same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. They are tough, so we subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests – all to ensure that they can withstand a lifetime’s hard use. If you have any questions/concerns we can help with, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.

Solid vacuum with a few quirks

GOOD - Long cord - Good suction - End-user serviceable design - Fairly compact BAD - Doesn't steer as easily as other swivel heads - Fixed extension wand can get in the way - Cleaning on hard floors could be better - Runs hot DETAILS Dyson vacuums are well known for their performance and reliability. My experience with this rendition of their Ball design bears that out, and I've been largely pleased with it. The Animal version of the Ball is marketed specifically at people with pets, to clean up the hair from carpets and furniture. I find it's also handy if you or the people you live with have long hair. In general, it cleans quite well. It has very powerful suction and the power bar base has three settings for deep pile carpet, normal carpet, and hard floors. The power bar itself can also be toggled on and off. I found it cleaned my carpets quite well, though cleaning my hardwood left a little to be desired ( the instruction manual recommends turning the power bar off for this, I'm not sure why ). It also has a very generous cord length. And though Dyson created the Ball design specifically to make it easier to steer the vacuum around corners and obstacles, I find it much stiffer to turn than other current swivel head vacuums. I appreciate Dyson's design in the vacuum. It's fairly modular, making it relatively easy to service and maintain yourself, provided you can get a replacement part. The filters are washable so you can reuse them instead of constantly buying new replacements. It also keeps things slim and trim so the vacuum is a little more compact than other full-size uprights. This particular model also comes with two extra attachment tools. One is an upholstery brush/cleaner, the other is a pet grooming tool that's supposed to suck up the shedded hair as you brush. How well your pet will handle being brushed near a vacuum remains to be seen. But sometimes I think it tries to be too clever. It uses a friction snap instead of a pedal to release the vertical lock. It's usually fine, but it also means you can accidentally release the upright lock when you don't want to, like if you want to tilt the vacuum back and roll it somewhere or even if you pick it up and then set it down. The extension wand is stored inside the hose in the main column. This is nice for reducing the exterior dimensions, but it also means you have to unwind the entire cord and slide out the entire wand when you want to do some quick spot cleaning. You can detach the wand from the hose if you don't need or want the reach, like in a small corner or nook, but in those moments where you just want to quickly clean up some cookie crumbs or dust bunnies, it's more involved than you might be used to. The main handle is also reversed to accommodate the extension wand, putting the main column below your hand instead of above it when you're using the vacuum. This means the vacuum tilts back farther than others when using it. For myself, I found my legs and knees bumped into main unit a lot since it was now leaning more toward me. Most of these complaints are small quirks, admittedly. They may or may not matter to you. All in all, it's a well built vacuum, it cleans well, and it stores easily. It does have a few quirks and the "exhaust" air is quite hot, but these are minor complaints on an otherwise great vacuum.

Love the dog attachment, the vacuum itself is great at getting all kinds of small dust and debris. This particular model doesn’t roll as easy as my previous one however, I can adjust the height for a higher pile carpet, and that makes it easier.

Si far so good. No issues. Throught it would be sturdier, lot of plastic, scared iam going to break certain parts connecting and unconnecting. Heavier than i thought. All my carpets look great, picks up all of the dog hair. Would recommend for a household with multiple animals.

This baby works great, of course. It's a bit tippy and occasionally falls over when I'm using the attachments that hook onto the telescopic tube. Whatever, it's so much better than the Bissell Pet that I don't much care.

Strong suction and cleans very well. Best cleaning vacuum I've owned. Flimsy material in a well designed vacuum. The plastic feels very cheap and not at a level of what a $500 vacuum should be. Will see over time if their material choice is as good as their design.
