    Quick, clear, concise printer!

Printing quality is top notch, with minimal sound and excellent clarity. There is one paper tray, which isn't an issue unless you have a TON of printing to do. Please keep in mind this model does not have wifi, which is disappointing, but if you are in an office environment, most do not utilize wifi for printing. If you are utilizing this for a home printer, you have to be close enough to an ethernet port, or have ethernet drop through the house so you can plug it in. This does not have touchscreen, which this day and age is disappointing, especially if you are utilizing in a professional environment. The device printers up to 42 PPM letter and has a 350 sheet paper capacity (standard paper). For home and small business use, this is more than enough and the speed at which it prints will leave no one wants more. Overall, the printer works as intended, but does lack wifi which is, again, disappointing, but not a deal breaker. I do not think you will have an issue with this printer as long as you have ethernet handy.

Working great after working with support to setup

For initial setup, I connected this printer directly to my router via ethernet and was met with a message indicating "setup is taking longer than expected", with no option to do anything to attempt to correct the issue. After reaching out to support, they were able to help me access a hidden menu to force the printer back to factory setup, after which the printer was able to successfully complete the setup. Even accessing this menu was a fairly arduous ask, effectively typing in the Konami code into the printer, and needed to be repeated 3 times before it worked successfully. I asked support if there was some way I could have resolved this on my own and was told the only way to know how to access the reset menu was to reach out to support for help. I'm a big fan of being able to self-solve when I run into problems, so this feels like a very significant oversight. Overall, the printer seems to be designed more for a shared office location than a home office, with basically no interactive LCD functionality. It feels like it's locked down to prevent office employees from messing with it, but is consequently less home user friendly. Now that the printer is setup, it works great and prints very quickly. Not only does it print each page quickly, it acknowledges the print command faster than my previous printer so from clicking "print" to having the paper in hand, is a noticeably faster process. If everything went smoothly with setup, or if I was able to easily reset the printer and set this up on my own, I would give this printer 5/5 stars, but given the setup issues and the inability for me as the product owner to solve this on my own without a phone call to support, there is room for improvement.

A Failure Of Hardware, Documentation, And Support

After many hours of testing this device, I have been unable to establish it as a printer and have been astounded by the lack of quality support provided by HP. (1) The sparse reference guide has a section titled: "Help and tips for Wi-Fi and connectivity". The even sparser setup guide instructs the user: "For wireless setup, do not connect an Ethernet cable." However: This printer is NOT a wireless printer and cannot be setup as such. See photos one and two below. Also, for a printer to require an Ethernet cable for setup, they should supply an Ethernet cable for setup. (2) Setup directions are relegated to instructions to go to HP's setup site - both in the setup guide and on the printer display. See photos three and four below. That's basically all you get. The setup journey includes choices for establishing this printer as a wireless printer - it is NOT a wireless printer. Setup also supplies choices for establishing this printer by USB (see below). (3) My three calls to HP support included requests for them to have controlling access to my computer - a source of invasiveness I would have never imagined possible for getting a printer to print out of the box. I consented to that request from a secure computer with none of my personal information available - but what an INSANE request to make for all users! I was appalled to learn that this is a standard means of problem correction for HP. (4) My own problems aside, I found out that this printer categorically cannot be installed on a network using a Chromebook. Trying setup from a Chromebook returns a statement that initial setup MUST be completed using a Windows or Apple device. My own failures to establish this printer, even using a direct ethernet cable connection, extended to a desktop running Windows 10 and to a laptop running Windows 11. But I couldn't even get started on the road to failure on a Chromebook. HP support would not respond to my questions about this. (5) Apparently there no way to establish this printer as a USB printer without internet support. There is a USB port on the back but it is taped over (see photo). The setup sequence suggests that this is a possibility, but some of the things I have read lead me to believe that this printer MUST be established through an internet connection and can only be used as a USB printer AFTER establishment through an internet connection. I also asked HP support about this and they did not respond. I believe that this printer would (if it worked) require continuous internet connection for printing so that HP can remotely monitor the provenance of the installed toner cartridge. I have never encountered a printer with such a failure of hardware, documentation, and support. Absolutely not recommended.

Solid HP printer with limited features

This HP printer would make a good addition to existing HP printers if you are accustomed to using HP printers and the HP Smart printer software. The print quality is solid. The black and white pages are crisp and the print speed is fast, if not a little loud. There is only one paper tray. You can also feed it from the outside by dropping down a flap which HP calls "tray 2." The lack of a touchscreen control panel means I have to reply on the HP Smart software to manage the device. I can see where this printer makes an excellent addition to a suite of HP printers in a small office. I do not recommend this printer as a personal printer unless you are replacing something similar that connects via ethernet only. I would recommend deciding which printer family offers the products/features you want/need and then sticking with that manufacturer. Choosing a printing software is almost akin to selecting an operating system. Finally, keep in mind this is a network printer that connects via ethernet only.

Works great. This printer is one step above from your normal at home printer. It’s high-performance printing allows you to print at incredible speeds for all black-and-white images. I really like the instant ink feature so that you never run out. I have a small business so I’m able to use this in my home office for simple black and white printing and it has multiple users feature. The two line LCD screen is very simple not very complicated you can see exactly what’s going on with the printer and you get a few buttons to maneuver the menu and get what you need. I’m not sure how this translate but the prince beats are up to 42 PPM letter and 350 sheet standard paper capacity. That is more than enough than I need and but the ability to do more is awesome. Set up is very easy just plug-in do a test print and you are good to go. I have this directly set up with my laptop via USB and there are no issues no need to troubleshoot this is a high performing home office printer that is worth the purchase.

The printer prints well when it does not have an issue. It took me 2 days on the phone with tech support to set it up, and I have only had it 10 days and I just spent the last 2 days with tech support again because it had an issue.

Maybe it works, maybe not. I tried for an hour trying their "easy set up" or whatever. My mac could see it as on line, but could not print to it. IT HAS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, which is in fine print on the box. Easy setup - not. Best Buy cheerfully took the return. I bought a similar Brother and it connected INSTANTLY.

This was bricked immediately, most printers you just plug in and go. Unfortunately this printer required a subscription to use. If you do not follow all the instructions before hand Hp will help you unlock the printer for a fee and then tell you about the mandatory subscription.

I had to return this printer, because this model no longer includes the embedded HP print server without setting up an HP Smart+ account. I guess now the “e” at the end of the model number indicates this new change and not ethernet like it used to stand for.

It makes high-quality prints and makes them quickly. Two Important Notes: This model must be networked with ethernet, it can be reached wirelessly, but the printer must be connected via ethernet. And it does not do two-sided printing.

Purchased this printer and works great, great quality and construction but requires internet for installation and for it to even work at all. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that it REQUIRES internet service.

This new printer model requires an internet connection even when trying to use USB only. HP wants you to pair the device with a "pairing code" making installation too complicated if you don't have an ethernet port available in your office. What is HP doing? The HP Smart app is not that smart. Wish they would bring back the normal driver installation like before!

Setup Process is unnecessarily, complicated. The fact that you have to go online to activate this printer, to complete the setup seems like a huge waste of time. I would guess this is the 200th HP printer I've ever setup, and the 1st one I've had to activate online in order to complete the network setup.

Beware, not for novices. Setup can kill you. Spent six hours just trying to get my computer connected to it, including four hours with (very helpful) HP customer service - who couldn't get it to work, either. Setup instructions that come with the printer are worthless. If you know your way around wifi printer installation, go for it, otherwise, beware.

    HP Makes It Complicated

Two main points: 1) HP makes installation artificially difficult. at one point I had to pull out and put back the CAT 6 cable to go forward with getting the eight-digit code that they wanted. 2) After the power went out I received an error code on the printer. The Laserjet was not visible on the network. I finally went online, put the code in Google, Pulled the power cord out, waited two minutes and it finally worked. Come on HP, your onboard diagnostic did not even work.

Was not a simple hook up. Had to go through a connection process that was a pain. The person who I had help me get it set up, who was familiar with computers hated it. After a couple hours we got it to work. It did print fast. However the printer keeps reverting back to 8X14 paper size and it causing delays..

      Hi, Dave.

I’m sorry that your printer has continued to revert to legal size paper when you prefer a different size. I can certainly see why the delays caused by this would be frustrating, especially after such a challenging setup process. I want to help you resolve this problem, so I’ll suggest a resource that I hope will make that happen.
