When it comes to robot vacuums, the Shark brand continues to be a leader in the market. I have two older models, one upstairs and one downstairs, and they both continue to perform well. Given the opportunity to test drive this new Shark Detect Pro, I jumped on it. After the mapping run and then the first cleaning run, my overall reaction was WOW, I LOVE THIS VACCUM! The Detect Pro gets its name from new technologies: DirtDetect, EdgeDetect, FloorDetect, and Neverstuck. One could say that detecting and not getting stuck features are nothing new. However, this new model takes it all to a new and higher level of performance. Along with the new technology, additional features include: *Easy setup: Pre-setup, be sure to insert the odor reduction cartridge into the base. Also, attach the side brush to the underside of the vac. (Note: Two brushes are included {box says one}, but only one is used. To my knowledge, there have always been two brushes, one on each side. Using only one seems odd, but the results appear to show it really doesn’t matter on this machine?) After installing the two items and placing the vacuum and the base station pad, you should be ready to connect to Wi-Fi. I have Wi-Fi 6, and connecting to the vac was done in seconds. *Charging: It is important to get a full charge before running the vac. If you have not used a self-emptying vac, please read this point carefully. After installation, it took me a few minutes to figure out why the vac wouldn’t charge. Then, looking at the picture shown in the guide, I realized it backs into the charging dock instead of going forward like they’ve done for years. When in dock, all control IDs are essentially upside down for reading. That’s what helped throw me off; but, hey, it was a learning experience. The docking process is interesting to watch at least once. In fact, I wish I could back up my car at least half as well as the vac does. *Self-emptying: I love this feature! It saves so much time and effort. Having to empty the vac after each use is a pain, especially if you forget to empty it from a prior run. Now, after docking, it goes through a dumping process. No muss, no fuss. You can’t miss it if you are anywhere within hearing distance. It is loud, but it is worth the few moments it takes to do its job. This great feature means less work because you only need to empty the holding bin occasionally. Of course, the frequency depends on how much dirt, pet hair, or whatever has been collected. *Mapping: The process seemed to take less time than my older Sharks. Though the first run was good, I ran it again to see if it made any major difference. It didn’t. The next day, having spilled grated coconut on the kitchen floor, it presented an opportunity to see how well the Spot Clean process worked. It was “spot on.” It was amazing to watch it work. There was a bit that it kept passing up and I’m wondering if it is going to overlook it entirely. NOPE. When the vac started back to dock, the entire “spot” had been cleaned. No coconut remained. Never have I seen Spot Cleaning so complete. NOTE: Be sure you have marked in the app map the exact area you want spot cleaned. If you fail to do that, don’t blame the vac. It will go exactly where you have marked. *NeverStuck: There are two areas downstairs that my vac (being replaced) liked to get stuck. In both places, it looked to me as if all it had to do was back out. On the two full runs with this new one, not one incident occurred. Everything this new Shark is supposed to do, it does well. If I had to pick at something, it would be that in avoidance of hitting walls it turns away about 2.5 to 3 inches before contact. At times that can miss something needing removal. My older ones did not do that, and they were more prone to bumping into something. If it came down to having to choose, I would choose no contact. Shark continues to up its game with this new DetectPro Self-Empty Robot. I have been using Shark (and co-brand Ninja) products for some years now, and both brands continue to impress me. Without a doubt, I would recommend the DetectPro to relatives and friends.

Finally! A Robot That Is Helpful!

I have been using the new Shark Detect Pro for just over a week now and have found it to be a great tool for maintenance floor cleaning. Most of my home is hard wood except in the bedrooms which are carpeted. The main floor where the Shark is located is approximately 2200 sq ft. The unboxing and setup of the Shark is super quick and outside of placing the filter in the dock vacuum and pulling the various tape off the product it is a 5 minute job to be up and running. Once the Detect Pro was placed on the dock in my kitchen and the robot was paired to the app on my phone we were ready to get going. The first thing the robot will do is cruise around the house and map the various rooms. Took about 15 minutes in my home and once the mapping was complete I was able to mark which rooms or zones I didn't want the vacuum to go. This was very useful as my living room has some furniture with cross beamed legs that are just low enough the Shark would try to drive over them, but then get high-centered and unable to move. I put that area in the no-go zone and let the robot do its thing. Overall, it took about 8 hours to complete my main floor due to the fact it could not complete the whole area on one charge. It did have to make a couple trips to empty itself which may have contributed to this as well. There are three cleaning modes ranging from heavy to eco. I was using the normal mode. The job done by the unit was good and will easily take place of my daily maintenance vacuuming on the ground floor. It is especially useful in the kitchen area where the most mess seems to occur. The robot does a nice job, but does sometime fail to get the edges completely picked up. For maintenance cleaning this is acceptable and the house as a whole looks better more consistently than when I am doing it manually. I am impressed by the mapping job and that the unit has not gotten lost one time. It always finds its way home and once I setup the schedule in the app I have not had to touch anything since. The unit just cleans and does not ask for assistance. That is what you want in a robotic vacuum cleaner. Great job Shark! My only real caveat is that I am unable to use it extensively in my living room duo to my furniture and the unit trying to climb the leg supports. That is probably an unusual situation for most and I doubt many others would experience it. I have used Samsung and Roomba in the past, but the Shark Detect Pro is the first unit I have owned that just worked. It is truly a set and forget product.

    Great Assistant Vacuum

So I'll be honest, I was extremely skeptical of this at first, having owned an automatic vacuum like this from about 5yrs ago. Let me say, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and effectiveness this unit brings to the table! Now I won't go as far to say that it will replace your vacuuming entirely, maybe if you live alone or just a couple adults and have a mostly open home to where this can reach all the nooks and crannies. Nor does is deep clean the carpet as well as a full sized vacuum might. Living in a home with 2 younger children, as well as a dog and cat, I can tell you vacuuming is still a necessity weekly. Moving furniture is also a problem, because you have to remap it, which is annoying if you rearrange frequently, otherwise it will miss those spots that it thinks furniture is in. But I can say that it has dramatically cut down on the effort I need to give to the mainstay areas of our home. It feels cleaner and more well kept with this running 2 times a week. Program and setup are very easy, it walks you through the process via the app. I also enjoy that it's just a quick empty of the bin and I can check status when needed. Of course you're going to want to also make sure the path is cleaned up mostly so as to not suck up crayons, dolls and their hair, etc, otherwise it will get stuck, or just completely avoid the items in its path and you'll have to spot clean. Let's be realistic though, it isn't a full on maid! Overall, if you want to lessen your house chores in the family life, and already keep your home floor modestly clear, this is a great assistant to help you out. Living the single or empty nester life? This can likely eliminate the need to vacuum except for maybe monthly or spot cleans. I'm very happy with this for what it is and what it offers. Although, it is not without its caveats and limitations, as one would expect from an automatic device, but still a great product.

I love shark vaccums so I was a bit surprised at how much this one smelled. It has some sort of glade plug-in thing plugged into the front and I am chemically sensitive so I will be returning it. It would be one thing if they offered an unscented cap to use, but there is only one and my hands still stink after removing it.

Not sure I see the improvement over the RV900S

This unit replaced a RV900S we've had for a few years. That unit had a couple of issues I was hoping this one would overcome. Setup was kind of a pain. The connection via bluetooth took multiple attempts to get the new unit to synch. Power off unit, base, my phone, etc. I don't recall the 900 being to finicky. I don't recall having the same mapping options for the 900 in the app as the new unit, but if you spend the time to set it up, it will likely do what you expect. We have a ledge that separates the porch and living area. The 900 would always get stuck there, not being smart enough to not get into trouble. This unit has the same problem, only solved by essentially mapping that out of it's available area to clean. At least I don't have to go save it anymore. The other thing I've noticed is that for the same area, the new unit doesn't complete it in the same time as the other. The schedule has it set to run at 930a, but will come back out as late as 5p - the 900 never went that late. I'm not aware of anything I can change other than running earlier to fix this. If you want a quiet unit - this is not it. I mean it's a vacuum, but this unit is aggressive. I'll hear it slamming around like if it's on an edge of a thick rug or something. I haven't watched it to see if it is running into anything like the 900 would. It does clean quite well, which is its base function so why I still give it 4 stars.

We’ve had a robot vacuum before but it wasn’t self-emptying. That wasn’t a big deal if you remembered to empty the vacuum when it was done. Plus the onboard hamper wasn’t big enough to tackle my floor with two dogs that shed like crazy. We were excited to see how a self-emptying vacuum would perform. Our house has wall to wall ceramic tile flooring with both short pile throw rugs and one shag type rug. I was concerned how the vacuum would do with the shag. Well… it did very well. Setup went smoothly. Make sure you download the Shark smartphone app, connect your phone to the vacuum and the home wifi and start the explore function as it runs through the house mapping each room. When done you can edit the map, in the app, from one big inclusive map to individual room which comes in handy. You can instruct the robot to vacuum the whole house or select individual rooms. Comes in real handy if you just need to touch up a room. In the app you can setup a normal vacuum schedule so the rooms stay clean with no effort other than emptying the base hamper from time to time. One tip… before you start, and depending on the frequency that you normally vacuum, be sure you give your rugs a good traditional vacuum. We had not done that and our 98 pound Labrador had shed what may have been a small pup worth of dog hair. The hair clogged quickly and took longer to complete the first run and actually needed to park to recharge before it would start again. I took care of the throw rugs and now the Shark runs the course like a pro and when done the base sucks the contents out of the vacuum into the easy to dump base hamper. At first my dog was extremely concerned about this object roaming the house but she quickly got use to it. Sometimes it’s amazing how that thing can work itself into tight spots but it always finds a way to get out. We are extremely pleased with the Shark Detect Robot

I have seen and heard about robot vacuums but never really embraced the idea of an unattended device running around my house to clean my floors. This all changed when I found this extremely intelligent and efficient Shark - Detect Pro self-emptying cleaning machine. Shark really thought of everything when it comes to simplifying the use of this device. The base unit is strong and sturdy and serves as a charging station and emptying station. With this model, it takes it a step further and has an air freshener added. This is a nice feature that freshens up the room when the robot docks to empty and charge. The device is very smart and interfaces well with the mobile application. Once the device is connected to Wi-Fi, it can be controlled by the mobile application. After the robot is connected to the application, it can go out on a mapping mission to search the area that it intends to clean. The map is then drawn on the mobile application to confirm or change. Once it has been mapped out, the rooms can even be separated and safe zones can be set up to avoid. The vacuum is powerful and does a very good job cleaning the carpet. I have it scheduled to go every other night after I go to bed. It is nice waking up and finding the carpet vacuumed when I wake up in the morning. It seldom gets stuck, but I recommend clearing the floor as a matter of good practice before letting it run. It does have a brush roller that will suck up everything in its path. I am beyond pleased with this offering by Shark and I plan to purchase another one for my upstairs flooring.

    Solid Vacuum

    - Unboxing and setup were fairly straightforward and easy. It would have been good if the power cord was longer. - Mapping function was methodic & fairly fast. It did a good job to map the floor going into bedrooms, bathrooms, walk-in closets, and it even went to the edge of the stairs without falling off! - Cleaning in 'Normal' mode did a good job picking up dust/lint and human hair. It did well across plush carpet, ceramic tile, and bathroom rugs. It maneuvered around furniture, objects and doors while bumping into a couple of spots, like dresser corners and doors. It did miss cleaning a few areas, corners & edges by walls, floor vents and sides of toilets. It was able to clean underneath beds but couldn't go underneath nightstands and dressers because of the laser vision Shark puck. It did get stuck twice. One time it tried to go in between a desk and bed but after spinning and trying several times lasting about 45 seconds, it gave up and turned around. It also got stuck under a bed when it couldn't free itself from an ironing board drawstring jammed in the roller. It made an announcement for help, and I had to free the drawstring from the roller. It resumed the cleaning after I hit the 'Clean' button. - Docking and self-empty station is nice aesthetically and compact. It's easy to empty the canister which doesn't require a bag. This will save money, but it can negatively affect people with allergies, or those who are sensitive to dust/lint. One time the unit did have difficulty redocking after a cleaning. After 3 or 4 failed attempts, I decided to just pick it up and place it on the dock. - Software could use improvements. It can map only 1 floor. It has limited pre-labels for rooms and doesn't allow entering free text. For example, it would be nice to enter "Barbie's room" and "Ken's room" to label bedrooms, and 'Closet' for closets. Setting up a cleaning schedule will always clean all rooms, but it would be very useful if it allowed cleaning individual rooms on different days. It isn't obvious, but you can zoom in/out the map to resize, reshape and merge areas to get various room layouts and sizes. For example, it took some trial and error to separate out our 'L' shaped bathroom and the two adjacent bedrooms. It required separating out the three rooms by zooming in/out, creating several rooms using several vertical rectangles, horizontal rectangles, then combining a subset of them to create the three different rooms. It would also be nice if the map showed different the types of flooring - carpet, tile, rugs.

Shark builds good products, but I was wary as another company seems to have cornered the market on robot ivacuums. This is to replace said former vacuum of which did a mostly excellent job. First, if you have pets, this is a godsend! Does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, even golden retriever hair without clogging up. While hair does stick to the rollers a little, it's much better than other vacuums. This means less cleaning and cutting away stuck hair. Very impressive. The self cleaning feature is a mixed bag with pros and cons. The pros are you having to empty your robot less. The con, you may not always know if your robot is full/clogged should the self empty feature fail. All in all it beats manually vacuuming. Suction and cleaning ability is excellent. It's quieter than other vacuums in this category. The shark app is intuitive and easy to use. Makes set up, scheduling and setting zones a breeze. Like other robots of this type, it does get "lost" or "stuck" at times, especially if you have a lot of furniture or areas with corners. Desks with office chairs and tables can be particularly confusing for the robot. This robot vacuum will definitely make cleaning easier, just don't forget to maintain it.

Nice vacuum, but app/software slow and buggy

I like the vacuum, but the software app is horrible. I had mapped out my home, and created all the "rooms" -- a couple weeks later, all the "rooms" were missing, so had to re-do it all. The android app is really SLOW to load, even when navigating from one section to another, it takes a while to re-render. Also, a feature I would really like is real-time mapping -- where you can actually see the path of the vacuum in real-time. Roborock (imo) has the best app/map experience.

I have used and been disappointed in various ways with several different brands of robot vacs. This shark is better in some ways but worse in others. The first good thing is that it runs well without getting stuck nearly as much. One brand in particular used to habitually get stuck in certain areas, but this one has been mostly jam-free. However, while the other ones would let you know they were stuck with a notification, this one just sat there until I happened to notice it wasn't on the base. It also seems to get around cat toys much better. I haven't had a single one get stuck in the roller or a wheel well yet. And for a self-cleaning model, the big advantage is that you don't have to buy vacuum bags for the base. It has a container you can empty like most upright or stick vacs now have. Now, for the drawbacks. While it did an excellent job of mapping the basement, you can't designate areas to be cleaned on different schedules. Oh, you can add all the rooms and areas you want to the map, but they are useless for scheduling. There is one area that needs to be cleaned everyday, but the whole floor doesn't need to be cleaned everyday. But with this "smart" vac, it's all or nothing. It also seems to ignore "no-go" areas that you create on the map. I don't want it running into the cat food dispenser everyday, but it does, whether it's in a no-go area or not. If you're not worried about the vacuum running into stuff and you need to clean everything every time it runs, then this could be the vacuum for you. Otherwise, you might want to look for something smarter.

The Shark Detect Pro Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum is a great robot vacuum and one that I would recommend to anyone looking for a robot vacuum. Set up is easy using Shark's app as it walks you through all the steps for getting the Shark vacuum connected to your home network as well as running your first mapping run. With the Shark's "LiDAR vision" the map is extremely accurate and makes the initial mapping run very quick as the vacuum doesn't actually have to go over every part of your house to make the map. The one downside that I had with this is that it actually detected my back porch through my sliding glass door and detected it as part of my house during the mapping run, this is easily fixed as you can just mark it off of the map after the run is done. Cleaning is relatively quick with my 1200 square foot apartment taking about an hour total for the whole apartment to be cleaned including carpeted and hardwood floors. The vacuum is extremely quiet while cleaning on carpet, but it can be a bit loud when cleaning on hardwood flooring. I am extremely impressed with the Shark robot vacuum and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a robot vacuum.

We have 2 dogs that arent exactly the most clean of animals. And aside from an accident here and there the main issue is shedding. You sometimes dont know how bad it is until you vacuum and see just how much has accumulated since the last time. Well with the Shark Pro I dont have to worry about that. It handles it all. And the Shark can handle different floor types. This is perfect because our house is about 60% carpet, 40% hard floors. And of course it does a whole lot more than just pet hair. Dust and allergens are also picked up. And that alone saves money. Not having to go out and buy allergy meds every makes it worth it or sure. And its so automated that once you have it set up there really isnt a lot to do other than the maintenance which is very easy. Its all laid out in the easy to read and follow manual and only takes a few minutes. I cant say enough good about how much easier keeping our house clean and pet hair dealt is with this auto vacuum. Its a must for pet owners, multi floor type houses, and more. I have a lot of friends with pets that I will be recommending this too for sure!

We bought one of these in November of 2023. Here we are April 13th and it stopped working. Got an error saying the brush roll was stuck. Removed and cleaned meticulously multiple times and we get the same error. Of course it is out of warranty so we are left holding the bag. We will buy another robot vacuum, but it won't be a Shark. Buyer beware, unless you like buying a new vacuum every 16 months.
