||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love Shark vacuums! When my old Shark vaccum died I really didnt want to spend the money on a new one, but then I remembered my old one was over 6 years old. When I got this vacuum home I instantly tried it out and it is amazing! I love the smart sense features and can go from hardwood, to vinyl, to carpet, all without having to change anything! The tangle free roller is perfect since I have two doggos! Plus the side suction and light when you're up next to a wall is a nice feature and the generous size dust collector bin is perfect! I can vacuum my whole house without having to stop and empty it! Super pleased with my purchase!!

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This new SHARK power detect is amazing. It does such a great job cleaning my floors. With tons of pet hair and two girls in my home this thing does not tangle at all! Used to be a Dyson person but I have 100% converted to SHARK after it blew my $600 Dyson away.

Suction is way up, design is down slightly
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Long time user of Shark Vacuums and have many of their models. This POWERDETECT Vac has the highest suction I have ever used for household use. Plenty of room in the XL debris cup for full house cleaning and all the lights you need from floor to handheld to find dust bunnies. The three included accessories are the ones you will want and use, even though only two can ride on the vac at the same time. This vac could rule them all, if you have the muscle to use it. Read on for my first week of use. Pros: The most suction ever when POWERDETECT kicks on. Even regular mode is impressive. Super long power cord. Bright lights on floor head and hand nozzle. POWERDETECT is not a gimmick. Dual heads are improved over my Shark Vertex from a few years ago. Heavy vac with good traction for agitating the carpet fibers. Buttons to get dust bin off and open to dump in trash are labeled better. Includes 3 attachments. Duster/lint brush, crevice/duster, and turbo brush nozzle. Easy to disassemble for clogs and cleaning. Neutral: The scent pod is nice, but quickly don't notice it. Be hard to know when to change. My wife loves the color, me who uses the Vac not as much. Cons: The hose wand is far too stiff and can't reach a ceiling fan at 8ft above carpet. Very long cord, but also too stiff. Heavy vac and might be hard for weaker users or multi-story homes. Yes, it's a pro too. Plastic in HEPA door is fragile. 2 tabs broke out of the box. Maybe they were not needed. Sliding door still latches. Default mode is the POWERDETECT (purple light) and this is likely how I will always use this vac in my mix of hardwood and carpeted. It easily pulls itself forward over all but bathroom floor rugs (too much power, no vent to lower suction). And with the sensors seemingly working as intended. Everything on carpet and hardwood gets sucked straight into the extra large dust bin. No scattered messes to recapture on hardwood, no more than a possible second pass on carpet. Pet hair is also easily caught and deposited to the bin. I loved my old Shark Vertex but it will see far less use because the suction and carpet agitation seems so much, MORE with the POWERDETECT. It takes some getting used to when the vac revs up and down then the light goes purple and the suction increases and it is working deep into your carpet. Then while its doing this, anytime you go near a wall/object on left or right of the dual brush head. The vac floor lights switch to illuminate that side, almost like blinkers on a car. Its odd, but kinda neat. There are other modes for carpet heights or non-carpeted areas. And these modes will reduce power to keep things safer from the enormous power this vacuum is capable of. Just miss a vent that could reduce suction even further for my bathroom floor mats. The accessories included are probably the most useful and commonly used tools. What is included are dual use tools (parts slide or snap off), duster/lint brush, crevice/duster nozzle and the turbo brush all work well and will see regular use in my house. Unfortunately, only two can ride the vac at the same time. One tool will need to ride in a drawer till needed. Now for the things that might be a possible concern for some. The hand wand is so stiff when extended (still new and might stretch more in time). Currently, it won't reach above a standard door frame, unless detached from base. And can't reach my ceiling fans at just below 8ft. I guess I can use an extension brush (not included) or detach the motor from the base. But who will hold the ceiling fan blade from spinning as I clean it. My Shark Vertex reaches with one hand free! And couple other minor niggles. Why did Shark use such a stiff power cord? Thank you for making it a very long cord. But it is too stiff. Then one last mention for those who may be weaker or need to carry this up stairs frequently. This vac is Heavy. I prefer a heavy vac to keep the head pushed down into the nap of the carpet so the floor head really digs out the dirt and pet hairs. But if I had to carry this around too much. Or if I were weaker and had to muscle the suction as you pull this back (it pulls itself forward) it would be a workout for perhaps the elderly. Great vacuum, and if my past Shark vacuums are any indication of future reliability. This Shark should provide several years of use. Can't beat the suction of POWERDETECT.

The Ultimate Vacuum for Pet Owners
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With a long-hair cat and golden retriever that loves to shed hair (plus two small children), our house has a lot of hair and dirt accumulation almost every day. I’ve been using the Shark PowerDetect AZ4002 upright vacuum to combat this chore, and I’m thoroughly impressed by the performance and features it lends. This vacuum is all about detection: floor type, edges and corners, direction, and even dirt. It’s equipped with several sensors that can detect all these things, and they work surprisingly well. With its detection abilities, it’s no surprise that one of the standout features of the AZ4002 is its detect mode. Some vacuum cleaners have one mode, and some have two or three options. This has four, one of which automatically changes the mode based on what it detects. It has detect mode as well as hard floor, carpet/low pile, and thick carpet/area rug surface modes to choose from. I kept the AZ4002 in detect mode most of the time. Its detection accuracy is spot on, and this gives it the power it needs to clean various surfaces and edges not only effectively but efficiently. It would boost (or decrease) the power needed to match the situation. The AZ4002 has incredible suction power, and I mean incredible. It effortlessly picks up dirt, dust, and even pet hair from our carpet and vinyl floors—on the first pass. It does so well, in fact, that it grips our carpet and causes a pull-forward effect—a testament to its power, but a slight concern. I had pulled up more dirt than I thought was under it. Despite how powerful it is, the vacuum doesn’t always pick up stubborn dirt and debris that’s even slightly stuck to our vinyl floor. I sometimes needed to use the handle or an accessory along with it to pull it up. Two brush rolls, one fin roller and one soft roller, are doing a lot of the work when cleaning. My primary battle is with hair, and both work together to pick up hair. Both self clean and require virtually no maintenance at all, which is a big step up from my previous vacuum cleaner. Long hair caught in the brush roll used to be a nightmare to maintain, so it’s great to see that after several uses, I haven’t needed to clean either roll. I still have to remove the soft roller to collect hair from self cleaner, though. Because of the thick filter effectively trapping a large amount of dust and allergens, I cleaned it after only a few uses of the vacuum cleaner. The HEPA filter looked to be doing some work collecting dust and allergens, too. Another aspect I appreciate about the AZ4002 are the lights. It may seem insignificant that there are headlights on a vacuum cleaner, but this feature helps to reveal hidden dirt and debris and darker areas. I also appreciate that the handle has a light. It’s not as bright as the headlights on the nozzle, but it does well. One other feature I'll mention is the odor neutralizer ability. You can insert a small cartridge into the nozzle to minimize any odors of dirt and debris in the vacuum cleaner itself. The scent from the cartridge does leak into the air around it, but at least it's a pleasant one. Depending on the odor level, you can increase or decrease the amount of neutralizer you want or need. I keep mine on the minimal level to maximize its life, and this level seems effective. Is it necessary to have? No. The vacuum cleaner functions fine without it. There is only one minor drawback for me, and that is the nature of the small wheels underneath the nozzle. While it’s mostly maneuverable, the small wheels have a felt material, which allows the nozzle to drift more easily on hard surfaces rather than effectively swivel where I need it to go. Rubber material, like that on the large wheels, would have been a better way to go. Second, hair can accumulate around the metal pins that hold the wheels in. This also causes drifting since the wheels then cannot move. While the solution here is to remove the hair, it is not very easy to remove: the pins need to pop out, and this is difficult to do without the use of a tool that can get under the pin or wheel. Popping them out will probably cause some slight cosmetic damage, as doing so did for me. I would highly recommend that if you have any amount of hair around your home—dog, cat, or human—to remove the hair after cleaning a room, or possibly after each full house clean if you have very little hair, as this would be the best way to maintain the effectiveness of the wheels. Practically all other parts of the vacuum cleaner are easily maintained. Why not this part, too? Overall, I highly recommend the Shark PowerDetect AZ4002 upright vacuum to anyone with pets with hair and/or fun-loving children. Its outstanding suction power along with its detection features does wonders, and self-cleaning brush rolls help keep the device low maintenance, which is always a good thing.

Vacuum with smarts and excellent cleaning power
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark PowerDetect puts the smarts that are in a lot of the rechargeable, handheld vacuums into a full-size up right. INTRODUCTION Using a myriad of sensors located in the power head, this vacuum self-adjusts based on the cleaning scenario. The vacuum will adjust such things as brush roll speed, suction power, suction direction, etc. based on its perceived cleaning environment with data received from the embedded sensors. The Shark PowerDetect has 4 sensors that it monitors to help improve your cleaning. Included in the sensor array are the DirtDetect Sensor, FloorDetect Sensor, and the EdgeDetect Sensor. Their names are self-explanatory. The FloorDetect Sensor looks at what surface type the vacuum is moving over and can optimize its performance based on the floor type. Bare floors (hardwood, tile, etc.), low-pile carpet, and high-pile carpet. Each one with its own unique cleaning algorithm. The DirtDetect Sensor constantly monitors airflow from the motorized head. If it detects poor quality / high particulate air moving past the sensor, it determines that the surface requires additional cleaning. This, in turn, increases suction power, brush roll speed, and cleaning accordingly. It works surprisingly well. The last sensor is the EdgeDetect Sensor. Using a pair of sensors, one on each side of the motorized head, the vacuum can decide when it is sweeping up against a wall or other piece of furniture. When this sensor detects an edge, it will increase the brightness on headlight that side of the power head and divert suction power to that side. Lastly, should the vacuum fail to correctly identify the flooring, or you simply want more control, two buttons on the handle allow you to override the SmartDetect features and use the vacuum as a normal upright. USE Putting these smart features on a full-size upright seems unnecessary, but I will admit, this vacuum does a GREAT job. My current vacuum is a Shark upright and while I always thought it did a good job of cleaning, now I’m not so sure. I don’t know if my old Shark, that is only 2 years old, is worn out, or the PowerDetect is that much better. After having just cleaned the house within the past couple of days of the arrival of the PowerDetect, I wasn’t expecting too much in my ability to thoroughly test the new Shark. I had literally just vacuumed and cleaned with little to no foot traffic since. But I gave it a shot and I was honestly astonished at the results. This is why I don’t know if my old Shark is already worn out or the PowerDetect is just that much better. After re-vacuuming 2 bedrooms and our game room, the dust bin on the new Shark was FULL. Embarrassingly full. I take pride and commit a good amount of free time in keeping up the house. I’m not a clean freak, but my stuff is kept up and clean. But, WOW. This was shocking. I would never have guessed that there would be this much trash sucked up, EVER. DETECT SENSORS – GIMMICK OR LEGIT? My handheld vacs with the dirt sensors work great on my hardwood and tile floors, but let's face it, they don’t work the greatest on carpets. Did Shark really change things up with the vacuum or are the detection sensors just a marketing gimmick? Only one way to find out! There were 2 places I knew would make or break the review of this vacuum. One is right in front of the door that leads to the attic and the other was in the game room where I had cut holes in the drywall to install streaming speakers, a flat-panel TV mount and a power outlet. Our game room gets minimal use, so the PowerDetect chugged along in low-power mode through most of the entire cleaning. But did it fail my test? No. It passed with flying colors. Both areas of interest immediately triggered the DirtDetect sensor, ramping up suction power accordingly. It took several passes before the new Shark was happy with the results and did not spin up anymore. I found it quite surprising. I installed those speakers close to two years ago. I swept up the area with a shop vac after I completed my work, followed by multiple vacummings over the course of time. Yet the new Shark PowerDetect still found the dirty spots and cleaned them accordingly. Same with the area in front of the attic door. Simply amazing. The sensors really do work as described. Same with the EdgeDetect Sensor. It never failed to work and direct added cleaning power to whatever edge I was up against. The EdgeDetect triggers within about an inch of an edge and seemed to disengage once I got about 2 inches out. FINAL THOUGHTS I was surprised, impressed, and embarrassed with the new Shark. Surprised at how precise and accurate the sensor array is. Impressed with the new Shark’s cleaning ability. Embarrassed that my floors were so dirty. This has all the same maneuverability that is built-in to all Sharks uprights, with just more brains. Unfortunately, those extras also cause the disadvantages of the vacuum. First off, those sensors can and will get dirty and require cleaning to function properly (The Shark will tell you when there is an issue). While it is not a huge chore to clean them and make things right again. It is added maintenance. Not only that, you have to be aware of what you are doing as those sensors have the potential for damage. Secondly, all this tech adds weight. While this new Shark doesn’t feel substantially heavier than my older Shark, the weight is noticeable while cleaning. The new PowerDetect is markedly more difficult to push in carpet than my old Shark. Still these quibbles are not enough to keep it from earning a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating.

It’s Time To Get The Best Vacuum!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my review of the Shark POWERDETECT® Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect™ Technology upon which I rate at 5 out of 5 stars. Out of the box, the device comes with the following attachments: duster crevice tool, pet multi-tool, and a pet power brush. All these attachments fit onboard the vacuum body except the pet power brush. The device will need some simple assembly per the owner's guide which I will not go into here. The final item to add to the device is the new odor neutralizer technology dial. In brief, this is an oder control unit that dispenses its liquid within the device to eliminate odors. This device has some great operating settings which include: Select Detect Mode - device will detect the type of floor surface (hard vs. carpet) along with wall edges and corners and adjust its motors accordingly. Manual Surface Modes - Hard Floor, Carpet/Low Pile, and Thick Carpet/High Pile. I personally like to keep the device in manual mode giving the device to perform at its maximum ability for the surface to be cleaned. This device has some great cleaning technologies which include: FloorDetect adjusts brush roll speed and suction power, DirtDetect increases the suction power when more dirt is detected in a specific area, and EdgeDetect maximizes suction power along edges and corners when the device detects these instances. For anyone not familiar with the Shark Powered Lift-Away, you will have the ability to detatch to the upright canister from the device to allow you to move the device head wtih ease around and under furniture. You also to ability to remove the wand from the device to clean hard to reach areas both hight and low. The one feature I especially like is the self-cleaning brush roll. This feature comes into play having pets or people with long hair. The device is able to clean its brush roll eliminating the need to manually detangle and cut hair from the brush roll. This device performed magnificently in my home and highly recommend it. I hope you enjoyed reading my review and it helped in your purchase decision.

Another home run by Shark!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shark have “floored” me with their ability to continuously reinvent and upgrade vacuuming technology. With each passing year, I'm astonished by the advancements and innovations that continue to improve and enhance the cleaning experience. With its advanced features and exceptional performance, the Shark POWERDETECT takes vacuuming to yet another level. POWERDETECT Technology: This revolutionary technology automatically adjusts suction power based on the type of floor surface, ensuring optimal cleaning on any type of flooring. The suction is truly remarkable. I let my daughter take it for a spin on our downstairs carpeted flooring and it was actually pulling her arms, almost as if it was self-propelled. Granted this was at peak suction, it still easily surpasses the suction of any vacuum I have ever owned. Another feature I value is the vacuum's ability to enter a standby mode when you place the handle in its upright locked position to move an object. In this mode, the vacuum operates more quietly until you resume using it. My initial experiment involved using our older Shark vacuum (which is still functioning well) to thoroughly clean the carpet in our downstairs living room. After completing a pass through of the entire room, I immediately went over the whole room again with the new POWERDETECT vacuum to observe what its canister would reveal. Surprisingly, the new vacuum canister contained a significant amount of debris, supporting my belief that vacuums are continually improving due to technological advancements. Shark POWERDETECT’s notable features: DuoClean Powerfins: The innovative DuoClean Powerfins work together to remove all types of dirt and debris, from large particles, to fine dust, and all types of hair. The self cleaning Powerfin brush roll has the ability to clean long hairs from the floor without getting tangled in the roller, like most traditional rollers. A HUGE bonus in my family of girls and pets, and a feature I can’t live without moving forward. Long gone are the days of turning the vacuum over to cut tangled hair off of the roller with scissors. Finally! Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology: This technology captures and traps 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum, making it ideal for homes with allergy sufferers. There is even a user replaceable odor neutralizer pod that helps to keep your vacuum odor free. You can even dial in the selected amount of scent you want the pod to release. LED Headlights: The bright LED headlights illuminate dark corners and under furniture, ensuring that no dirt or debris is left behind. There are even lights on the sides that turn on automatically when the vacuum detects a wall or baseboard. But what’s even better than that is the fact that this vacuum even gives you an LED light on the handle so when you are using attachments, it’s like having a flashlight shining on the area that you are cleaning. I have never seen a vacuum with this feature, and this is yet another feature I won’t be able to live without. Lightweight and Maneuverable: The POWERDETECT Upright Vacuum is lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it a breeze to clean around furniture and tight spaces. It has such great suction at full power on carpet, it’s almost like having a self-propelled vacuum. The tilt and maneuverability is also among the best in class. Powered Lift Away: By utilizing only the brush roll on the handle, the vacuum becomes even lighter and more agile, making it easier to access lower areas effortlessly. Specialty Tools: With a generous host of specialty tools included, you can clean hard to reach areas, pet messes, furniture, stairs, and everything in-between. In conclusion, the Shark POWERDETECT Upright Vacuum is the epitome of modern vacuum technology. The POWERDETECT technology, DuoClean Powerfins, LED lighting, and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology work in harmony to deliver a deep clean that is unmatched by other vacuums. It's truly remarkable how vacuum technology continues to advance, providing consumers with better and more efficient ways to keep their homes clean. This is yet another home run by the folks at Shark!

Versatile and powerful upright vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Shark Powerdetect upright vacuum has excellent vacuuming capabilities. I have another similar Shark vacuum that is about four years old. I wanted a vacuum to keep upstairs, so the older one is going upstairs and this newer one will be my downstairs vacuum. Assembly of the vacuum was pretty simple and the steps are depicted in the included owner’s guide. For regular vacuuming (not the attachments) this vacuum is awesome. The brushroll head has a light, and it is great for vacuuming in nooks and crannies. Long hair does not wrap around the dual brush heads. I am sharing a picture of where the long hair goes in the dustcup. The days of flipping the vacuum over and cutting the hair off with scissors is over with Shark. The floor nozzle is not as bulky as my older Shark, so it doesn’t get jammed at the edge of my low couch anymore, so I like that. The pod, which is the unit that contains the dustcup, can be removed from the floor nozzle. If you want to vacuum under a lower piece of furniture, like the bed or a couch, this is a great feature. I tend to use the wand a lot. The one thing that I don’t like, but I don’t know if it can be changed, is that the vacuum unit tends to tip over a lot when I’m using the wand. I think it happens because the suction is so strong and the hose doesn’t stretch out because of this. I use the wand on the lowest suction setting, because usually there is too much suction and it sucks itself to the floor or whatever else I’m vacuuming. The crevice tool is okay, I wish it had more bristles so it is easier on more delicate items like lampshades. I have an old vacuum brush attachment that I bought ages ago that fits on the hose, so I use that, but I have to carry it around with me when I vacuum. One new feature that I really like on the wand is the addition of a light. Now, when using a wand tool, there is illumination, which is perfect. The pet power brush, which I call a stair tool, is great for upholstery and stairs. I have carpeted stairs, so I have to use this thing a lot. It gets a lot more stuff out of the carpet stairs than just using a crevice tool. The odor cartridge is a new addition for me. I think I like it. The cartridge is good for about six months, then you should replace it. I think we are supposed to save the top part with the dial to use with the replacement odor cartridges. It is easy to eject dust from the dust cup, but it is not easy to clean the dustcup. Over time the dustcup starts to look really dusty and dirty. It is quite narrow in parts. I just cleaned my old Shark dustcup and it isn’t really clean. But I’m not going to worry about it too much. The top part of the whole dustcup unit is where the longer hair and larger items (rubber bands, etc.) vacuumed up goes. Just open up the top and pull it out. Overall I really like this Shark Powerdetect upright. It provides much more suction than my handheld cordless vacuum cleaners.

Shark for the WIN - again!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shark-PowerDetect Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect Technology, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, and XL Dustcup in Eggplant is a great addition to my Shark vacuum collection!! I'm going to start by saying I have 4 Shark vacuums (smaller to the larger Vertex) - I love the Shark products! This Shark Power Detect Vacuum is a work horse and my absolute favorite!! It is quieter than the others, but it is also a little heavier. It was packed really well and protected all items within the box. Also, a 5-year warranty - which is a bonus! This PowerDetect came in a few pieces that were super easy to assemble. In the box were 3 attachments and a "new" odor neutralizer HEPA cartridge. This cartridge is nice, so you get a fresh smell while vacuuming. I have it on the lowest level setting and think that is enough for me. The eggplant color is very pretty - for a vacuum! The filters in the vacuum are also easy to access and love that 2 of them are washable. Make sure you also clean the brush rolls of hair/fur. There is a LED light around the base, and the handle buttons are lit too. There is a 30' electric cord that is a great length to be able to cover most of my main living area without moving the plug. It is a little heavier than other vacuums I own but not so much as to not be able to maneuver it around furniture with a great swivel head. The floor detection function is a very nice addition to the vacuum world as it adjusts itself as you change from carpet to tile. Be sure to clean the sensor regularly or the detection won't work. I like the self-cleaning brush as well as I have a shedding cat, and my canister gets filled with cat fur (great suction). Even after using my Shark Vertex in my family room... One pass thru the family room with this and the cannister was 3/4 full of cat fur. My other sharks do pick up the fur, but this one is far superior to getting down deeper to gather all the fur and any additional dust etc. There is also an edge detection sensor on this model that increases suction around corners and edges which is a great new feature. The cannister is a decent size (in my opinion it should be larger for this size vacuum) and super easy to remove and empty. The lift away aspect of this vacuum is great with a nice long hose (a little stiff though) that is perfect for getting into smaller areas or using it to do ceiling areas, tops of curtains, stairs, and behind and under heavy furniture. The only things I would have liked to have received in the box were an attachment bag (i don't like to keep them on the back of the vacuum), and an additional odor neutralizing filter. This is absolutely a great Shark Vacuum, and I absolutely recommend it! I love this version so much that I am giving one of my older Sharks away because I don't need 4 of them!!

Exceptional performance and improved build quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark POWERDETECT vacuum is an incredibly good vacuum. In college I had a job as an appliance and vacuum salesperson back when a certain cyclonic brand was a few years into their rise in the US market. Shark has always made "good enough" vacuums, and I have reviewed a few very good ones during my time as a Tech Insider Network member. There have always been compromises, though never enough to say they don't make a good product. With this POWERDETECT vacuum, Shark has massively improved their feature set and fit and finish, for the first time rivaling the ultra premium brands in my opinion. This thing feels way beyond the vacuums that claim to never lose suction. It's really smart. #Unboxing and first impressions# The Shark POWERDETECT arrived well protect in a cardboard outer and inner box. The packing materials were mostly cardboard, and held up well to shipping without any damage to the box or vacuum inside. There are some plastic bags around the components so the packing materials are not entirely cardboard and paper, but it's far better than styrofoam. Setup was an absolute breeze. No screws, just plug everything together and you're off. I did not even need to refer to any instructions to assemble it. There are convenient spots to hold two of the attachments on the vacuum itself, and there's a third air-powered hand brushroll included as well. The power button is a premium feeling physical button in a perfect spot on the handle, and the mode buttons are a small touch panel that is just down the handle from where you would normally grip it. I did not have any accidental settings changes so I don't think this will get in the way. Close enough to be useful, though, I don't envision needing to change manually very often with how good the "Detect" mode is. There is also the "Lift Away" capability where you can detach the brushroll from the main vacuum to make it easier to carry around and clean small or high areas. In this case, that's a pretty nice thing because the brushroll is quite heavy. #In use# Wow. Gross. These are the thoughts I had after firing up the Shark POWERDETECT for the first time. First, I vacuumed my bedroom (especially an area my cats and dog often lay in) using a cordless stick vacuum that had a higher MSRP than this Shark unit. I gave it a solid cleaning on medium power, nearly filling the cup of the stick vacuum for my entire bedroom. After putting away the stick vac, I brought in the Shark POWERDETECT. This thing is __VERY__ powerful!. In 30 sq feet I had filled up the dustbin to the "MAX" line with additional pet hair and dust that my stick vac did not pick up. I gave it multiple passes, eventually filling the bin 3 times in just my bedroom before the "detect" boost stopped kicking into high gear due to dust. It really does a great job. The suction is strong enough that it really pulls the power brush into the floor and pulls the vacuum forward. I love the edge detection feature - this may be the best feature of any new vacuum I've used. When the head detects that it's within an inch or two a wall or furniture, it boosts to high suction power to pull more dust in from the crevices the brush roll itself can't reach. I feel like this really makes a big difference to getting things properly cleaned, especially around my platform bed. The hose and wand are easy to detach, and make vacuuming corners high and low a simple affair. The little odor neutralizing air freshener knob included with the vacuum is also a pretty nice touch that keeps the vacuum for propelling smelly air around the room. #Nit-picky negatives# I really enjoy using this vacuum and really did not find anything seriously wrong so far in the 3 days I've been using it. However, I will say the dust bin is pretty small especially considering how good this thing is at sucking up dust. On the bright side, it's easy to remove the bin and dump it out, but still feels solidly attached when you're using it. Also a minor negative is the small handheld brushroll included with the vacuum doesn't have its own motor, so it's just for light surface cleaning and not great for digging into carpeted stairs or upholstery. I have never seen an upright vacuum in this price category with a true power handheld brushroll so I am just mentioning it because it's included at all. #Who is this for?# In my opinion, the Shark POWERDETECT is the perfect primary vacuum for most households. We certainly can and will use our stick vacuum for day to day upkeep and dust bunny removal (always a problem with 3 pets in summer!) but the Shark POWERDETECT is so clearly superior that I'll be using it to follow up on the stick vac throughout the house. It's worth it to haul around the cord to get a better cleaning, and with the detection feature I feel pretty confident things are getting clean since it stops boosting when it doesn't sense excess dirt. Shark have really done a great job with this product.

Awesome Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark POWERDETECT® Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect™ Technology is a game changer. It is extremely versatile and the cleaning quality will simply amaze. We have two cats and two dogs in our home and the carpets have never been cleaner. This vacuum is highly maneuverable, allowing you to easily clean the tightest spaces. The first thing that you will notice is how easy it is to assemble out of the box. You’ll be cleaning within a few minutes of opening the box. The Oder neutralizer technology is a nice feature, making your vacuum cleaner and home smell fresh. Additional cartridges are sold separately. The POWERDETECT feature senses dirt and can boost the power the vacuum uses to pick up even more dirt and debris. If you have a large home or many pets, like we do, then you will not be disappointed with this powerful vacuum cleaner. The amount of dirt and debris that it picked up during its first use in our home was really impressive. It’s compact size and relatively light weight design is also very appreciated.

awesome vacuum
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark PowerDetect is a strong contender in the upright vacuum world. It boasts impressive suction, easily tackling dirt and pet hair on carpets and hard floors thanks to its DuoClean dual brush roll system. The self-cleaning brush roll minimizes hair tangles, a major plus. While it's a bit on the noisy side and the cord could be longer, the PowerDetect's performance, maneuverability, and XL dust cup make it a solid choice for most homes. Plus, the "Eggplant" color adds a touch of style!

Excellent vacuum cleaner, but expensive.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my review of the Shark Powerdetect upright vacuum with DuoClean Detect Technology, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, and XL Dustcup. I've had this vacuum for two weeks now and have used it twice to clean my house which is 1800 square feet twice. My house flooring is about 80 percent carpet and 17 percent laminate wood plank flooring and 3 percent slate tile. Although this is an expensive vacuum cleaner, it is well worth the money. I do have a few nit picks about it which I'll put at the end of my review. In all honesty, I'm giving it a 4.5 out of five stars on my review, but since we can't have a half star, that's why it gets 5 stars from me. As you can see in my pictures, for the controls, there is the push on push off button for the power, and 4 buttons for the various vacuum features. These four buttons you just barely touch, and then that feature will turn on. When you first turn on the vacuum, it automatically starts in the detect feature no matter what button feature you previously used. When I'm using the vacuum on carpet, I leave it in the default detect mode as my carpet is getting on in years and certain high traffic areas where the carpet has flattened out a bit and the pile has worn down, I find that it's easier to let the vacuum do what it's supposed to do. Detect the level of the carpet as well as the amount of debris on or in your carpet. You'll notice that the vacuum motor will ramp up the speed where the carpet pile is thicker versus a thinner pile. So, if you have berber styled carpet, the motor will most likely be at "normal" running speed versus a thicket carpet where the motor speed will increase. When the motor speed increases, so does the volume of noise it creates. It's not real loud, and I got used to the motor increasing it's speed and suction and slowing down the speed and suction pretty quickly. My dog crossed the rainbow bridge a year ago, so I can't judge on how well this vacuum will do in picking up dog or cat hair, but I'm sure it will do an excellent job. As for the non carpeted areas in my home, laminated wood plank and slate tile. I have tried using the Shark Powerdetect in the detect setting as well as the hard flooring setting. My first time using this vacuum on the hard flooring, I threw out a hand full of uncooked rice as well as some Cheerios. I used both the detect setting and the hard floor setting and while each setting preformed very well, I believe that I prefer the hard floor setting better as a whole. That is until I go the the edge where the floor meets a wall or cabinet fixture. Then I change it to the detect setting. When you've selected the detect setting, whether the flooring is carpet or a hard floor, and your're at the edge where the flooring meets a wall, cabinet or even a sofa, the vacuum senses that it's near an object and the vacuum motor increases the speed and suction. In a few of my pictures, you can see that there are an arrow on the left and right side right above the roller brushes. When you're near that wall, fixture or sofa, that arrow will light up white letting you know it's doing that feature. Also, above the roller brushes area, in addition to the two arrows, you have round light about the size of a quarter located on the left side. If you're using the detect feature, the light will turn white when it's cleaning normally. The light will turn purple when the vacuum detects that it needs to boost the suction and motor speed. You'll hear the vacuum switching from one speed to the other, you don't really need to check the light color to see what it's doing. On the right side of the roller brushes area, there is a air freshener holder that Sharks calls an "odor neutralizer technology". It's basically a 1 3/4 inch air freshener puck. It looks like it has some type of gel as the freshener that Shark says will last 6 months or so. You can rotate the freshener so that it will go from lightly scenting to heavy scenting as you vacuum. I have it at the lowest setting as that does well enough for me. While the smell of this "odor neutralizing" puck is OK, it wouldn't be my fist choice for a scent. On Sharks website they just have the same scent as the puck that came with my vacuum. On other websites, there are different scented versions like lemon scented and lavender scented. Also on the roller brushes area, there are two headlights. While they can help in some areas, especially on hard floors, they don't light up very bright. But then again, I have lots of windows in my house, and inside it's very well lite in the daytime when I vacuumed. When your vacuuming near an object like a wall, fixture or sofa, the light on the vacuum nearest that object will become brighter, and the other light will turn off. My Shark Powerdetect vacuum cleaner came with three attachment tools which you can see in a few of my pictures. The first attachment tool is a small brush, like a mini vacuum roller brush that operates (spins) off the suction of the vacuum. This is great for vacuuming a sofa, or maybe under an area where the vacuum won't fit due to the bulkiness of the canister. You can also use this mini brush attachment for vacuuming the stairs. The whole vacuum detaches from the roller head unit to make vacuuming the stairs a breeze. This mini roller attachment measures four inches wide, but only three inches is the roller area, so it doesn't cover a lot of area. Also this attachment has rubber blades instead of brushes. Another attachment that came with my vacuum is a 2 in 1 crevice tool. This crevice too can be used normally like any other crevice tool, but it also has a soft brush head that's permanently attached that you slide the brush head wither up or down. The third attachment tool is another 2 in 1 item that Shark calls a pet multi tool. It has a detachable brush head that has short 1/2 inch medium soft bristles to use on fabric furniture if Fido or Fluffy got on them. You can remove the brush head and there are two strips of a soft black material that would probably work well on leather furniture. I measured the power cord for the Shark Powerdetect vacuum cleaner at a very generous 28 feet. You can remove the wand from the base of the unit to get higher areas like the ceiling to get a spider web or spider. The wand is 22 inches long and combine that with the roughly four feet that the hose will stretch, you'll have almost six feet to reach high areas. But, be careful, when you remove the wand from the base to vacuum the couch, windowsill or anything really, the vacuum tends to fall over if you stretch the hose too much. I do have a few nit picks about this vacuum cleaner though. The canister, IMHO, doesn't look to hold that much. I haven't filled it up yet in my two times using it. And yes, I've emptied the canister each time. I'm comparing it to my other Shark bag less vacuum cleaner, the Duo-clean model. The other thing, and I mentioned it earlier, is that the vacuum can tip over very easy when you remove the wand from the base unit. While this isn't anything major, it could fall over and break an item in your house, or if it falls over enough over the years, the plastic canister could crack which I believe would cause the vacuum to not have enough suction. The Shark Powerdetect vacuum cleaner with the DuoClean Detect technology is probably the best vacuum cleaner that I've ever owned. It outperforms my old Eureka "The Boss" vacuum cleaner which is a bagged, not bag less vacuum that's probably 22 years old and still works great. I bought a bag less Shark vacuum a few years ago, but the old Euerka outperformed it. Lastly, something you rarely see these days is a very good warranty. The Shark Powerdetect vacuum cleaner with the DuoClean Detect technology has a warranty of five years. To me, that sounds pretty good as it seems most products nowadays only get a one year warranty Overall, I highly recommend the Shark Powerdetect upright vacuum with DuoClean Detect Technology even though, IMHO, it's a pretty expensive item. But then again, a very clean house is a healthy house.

Amazing!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This vacuum is incredible. We have a full house of animals, including four dogs and four cats. We have also depended on Shark products and this does not disappoint. Our last Shark was the pet lift away and I loved it. This one’s suction blows it out of the water. I also love the detection capabilities for my different types of carpets and floors. The base and the tool both light up now so it’s even easier to see what you’re vacuuming up.

A real cleaning powerhouse!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, never thought I'd be impressed after owning a Kirby, but color me impressed! What a machine, cleans great and is easy to use. Everything is well thought out and smartly put together. Assembly was cake. I figured I'd test is out on the garage floor which was covered in sand. It picked up all the sand in one pass without scattering it all over. It didn't blow ANY dust out so the filters are awesome. And it made the garage smell great. Transitioning from hard floor to carpet and back is easy and it automatically made the adjustments. I'm actually looking forward to using it.

Great for Pet Hair
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Dyson Pet broke and I got this as a replacement. It is great. I wish there was a longer extension for cleaning up high or behind furniture, but other than that it is very powerful and gets the pet hair way better than the Dyson Pet.

Great suction
|Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very powerful suction. I just vacuumed and went over it again with the new one and was amazed to see how much still was picked up. The different areas that have a light are a nice touch. I really appreciate the light on the hose. It helps while doing the stairs.
