.hack//G.U. Last Recode is a collection of all the .hack released on the PS2. If you never played it before, you control a character that is playing an online game called "The World" and am trying to resolve the various mysteries that occur within the game. The game is slow initially because of the weird concept but once it starts, the story line is fun to play. Great value with 4 games in one. The fourth game is new to the series too.

I remember playing all six .hack games back in the day, and the cheat mode is awesome for a lot of reasons. Even though much love went into this remake and compilation, you can see how dated and slow the playstyle is. For someone who doesn't really care how good or bad gameplay is unless it's really infuriating, it's not hard to see how slow battles are. I love looking back on all the world-building that went in. You can feel the 90s to early 2000s style in the online content, sites, and presentation, but there really is not many games made with this much content per game anymore. Plus, they were all gathered into one game, which makes it a very nice offer to fans, both new and old. I definitely couldn't see SE or other companies be so generous with their games. However, I feel that the 4th volume was definitely an add-on thought that came down the road once you realize there's a better way to end a story you had a long time ago. It doesn't really match up with the Returner OVA, but I do like the ending they did settle on (even if it meant Haseo wound up with Atoli /shudder) because it focuses on Haseo and Ovan. Even in their joke ending, you can feel Ovan trolling Haseo, so they're both legitimate and good ways to end the franchise. I did feel the sadness of seeing The World's servers close and it does finally seem like a closed finale.

A graphical overhaul is nice, but where this collection shines is in upgrades to usability. Faster leveling, less hitstun so fights execute smoother, and other touches make it great.

The first game in this collection came out in 2004 I believe and I never even heard of it but I had heard of the anime series. I really missed out back then though. This is an action rpg with no random battles, they take place once your character makes physical contact with an enemy or vice versa. I’m not gonna spoil any story details but it’s like a game within a game. Haseo logs in to “The World” and plays the game which is like an MMORPG. It’s a pretty cool way they set this up. Since this is a collection there’s a cheat mode too, if you just wanna experience the story without grinding and that kinda stuff.

Nice collection of the classic PS2 rpgs remastered. I was a big fan of .HACK games. Nice to see three of them remastered and extra stuff added. For the price its hard to beat and will give you 50-70 hours of gameplay.

Childhood lived all over again. The second series of .hack was awesome. the music the challenge. I wanted to enjoy the story so I used the cheat mode still took 20 hrs with doing just the bare minimum. Still 3 more games to go. The price point for this is perfect and I hope that it sales good so we can get the first series remaster for the PS4.

If you’ve never played a .hack game, get this! Four games in one, plus they are a lot of fun. Personally, the first set of games were better, but this collection has a new chapter that has been long overdue.

This game series was a beast on the PS2. It had a great story, good combat, massive world. I had to get the remaster which is all 3 games in one, plus an additional 4th chapter. The only thing to be aware of is the dated graphics. If that is something you can not deal with then I would not recommend.

Loved this series when it came out on the PS2, and now it is back and much more beautiful than it's predecesor. The visuals have been reworked to be amazing, and not to mention that there is now a whole new chapter to the series. If you have played it before or are new to .Hack, you will love GU!

I absolutely loved these games as a kid. I played through them all and 100%ed each volume. Here am as I adult and I did it again. It is a grind, and it is very very repetitive, if you dont like that stay far far away. It has some good qol improvements that make getting through faster and easier. I played through the old fashioned way as that way you keep all your inventory and progress. The real benefit here is the new Vol.4. Its is not long or a full game. only clocking maybe 3-4 hours but it gives good closure and is more than enough reason to return if you want to.

Reliving nostalgia from the PS2 era

Great remake of the .hack//G.U. trilogy originally on the PS2. I like all of the improvements made to this remake. Haseo runs faster, so dungeons don't take hours, the combat system is slightly tweaked, you get more EXP and GP now, and Avatar battles are easier now, they were a real pain on the original PS2 games. Parody Mode and the terminal disc are also included in the remake, as well as a Part 4 Reconnect, which is basically an epilogue to the trilogy. My only complaint is that coming off Persona 5, normal battles in this game are way too easy. Other than that, well worth the $50 if you were a fan of the .hack games. Hopefully Bamco will also remake the original .hack Kite quadrilogy with all the trappings, as well as some of the obscure PSP games.

    FANTASTIC Value

Let's break it down because this is a fantastic remaster. I had the PC version since launch and bought this since I wanted a physical copy. First off, this is it's own universe/storyworld so you don't have to play any of the other rpg .Hack games to understand the story. Second, right after the initial install to the PS4 hard drive and launched, only Vol. 1 and Vol. 4 were available to me from the get-go. Vol. 2, Vol. 3, and a menu option had to download so get ready for an hour install. Third, the game looks beautiful with this update. Can't be happier with visuals. Even the original PS2 games look amazing because the art style was put above realism. Now be warned, some items and features from the original versions may NOT be available. They are there in the cheat mode, but not through the original gameplay. Cheat mode is a blessing if you just want story. Max levels, items, weapons, everything. Just plow through bosses and get the story to prepare you for Vol. 4. Lastly, Vol. 4 was created specifically for this collection. It never existed until now. So even those who played the originals are getting to face a much better resolution to this story. All of this for 20 bucks since it's on clearance/price drop. 20 bucks. The value you get on this one disc is amazing.

    PS2 Remaster done Right

I waited a very long time in hopes this game got the HD re-master it deserves. I was only able to play volume 2 of the G.U. series and I loved it so much. I could never buy the others for ps2 because they're really expensive and a rare find nowadays. The series is that good, so I definitely can say why it was so expensive and hard to find. The day I found out the trilogy got a re-master for ps4, I was really happy and a bit teared up it. Such a great series in my opinion should have not disappeared from the world of gaming and anime. There are a lot of other anime concepts that came from the concepts of the Dot.Hack series in general. So without mention of a worthy predecessor, who would even know it existed without the original fans that loved it so much. As a dedicated fan, it's like reliving the moment one more time. Especially if you never got to experience the full story. To even top that, special gameplay for after the events of G.U. is a worthwhile bonus. There are a lot of beautiful songs in the series too, so its great to hear those again too. To all the fans out there who really missed this series; it's saying "welcome back home." Who knows, maybe we'll hopefully get a re-master of the very original Dot.Hack games with Kite. Only time will tell, and even if it does not, I'm proud to at least gotten the Dot.Hack G.U. Trillogy re-mastered. Thank you Bandai for bringing this game a well deserved re-master; and Cyber-Connect2 for the original development!!

This is a great game for fans the .hack GU trilogy. It bundles all three games into one package plus a fourth game that was never released. However, the game play is a little too simplistic for my liking. It is basically press X to attack.
