Better that I spected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The acer R 15 2 in 1 is one of the best laptops that you can get at this price. Pros Price $$ One of the most beautiful displays that I been seen on moderns laptops, Netflix and HDvideos just look amazing! A thin design The cover and palm rest are made of aluminium Backlit keyboard Responsive touch pad 8 gigas of Ram, a Intel i5 and 1 Terabyte HDrive are good enough for a person that requires a every day computer 6 to 8 hours of battery life Cons The back lit keyboard turns of by itself after 30 seconds of inactivity but it turns on when you start to type again You have to uninstall a lot of software preloaded in order to make it faster

Good but with a few flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After receiving my Asus R 15, I have ultimately came out pleased with this piece of hardware. I have a few gripes but overall, I can say it it is worth the MSRP. I'm going to start with initial impressions, things I enjoy and then things that need work. Upon unboxing, I was surprised how much lighter and thinner it was compared to what I expected. The listed specs had me worried it would be too heavy or too large compared to my MacBook Pro but one must also expect this with a 15 inch device. Of course, it probably is the listed weight but it does not seems as heavy as it actually is, this might just be an illusion from the sleek and compact design of the device (again, for a 15 inch device). There is no DVD drive so it is is overall pretty thin, I have attached a photo with my MacBook Pro 13 next to it for comparison. The construction quality surprised me as well when first opening. The top and inner portions are covered in a brushed aluminum which is cold to the touch and feels solid. The screen has little bit of give when you press on the metal though so that might have been a spot of compromise. The bottom is covered is a plastic that feels almost like a velvet, very smooth. Buttons are logically placed on the sides with power, volume SD card and a USB 2.0 slot on the right side, power, USB C 3.1, HDMI, headphones and two USB 3.0 slots on the left (one of the a charging port). The front only has indicators and nothing on the back. So how does it work? This thing is great overall! The screen is bright and clear and has bright colors that pop. I did have to adjust the default of 150% scaling back to 100% scaling, it just makes more sense to me on a 1080p screen. I am not sure why they set 150% scaling as the default, this isn't a 4k screen after all. After doing this I was very pleased. I ran Geek Bench I scored 3819 in single core processing and 7209 in multi core processing. This is a bit faster than last years model i5, most of the benefits I have read in this years model come from power efficiency and multimedia processing, the only hiccup here is the hard drive since it is not a SSD, more on that later. On the bright side, the HD is 1TB which is plenty of space. The included 8GB of memory is fast DDR4 type running at 2133 mHz. They keyboard is great as expected on a larger laptop, it is great having a number keypad back. The touch screen is sensitive and it is nice have the versatile hinge that rotates 360 degrees. They advertise using it in laptop mode, tablet mode, tent mode and display mode. As it is kind of large and heavier, I do not foresee ever using it as a tablet but tent and display mode seem kind of nice for watching movies. Keys are responsive and the are backlit. I did not test gaming as it only includes an Intel 620 chipset but there is a geForce version available as well if needed. The 620 shouldn't be too bad in basic games or in low quality and 720p though. Here is my favorite feature, MUMIMO support, if you have a compatible router, you are going to get some extremely fast and reliable network speeds. There are a few additional antennas built into the back of the monitor, they allow this connection. When checking my home wifi connection, it is never less than 866 mpbs whereas my other 802.11 AC devices go between 500-700 mbps. This laptop is great if you do a lot of network intensive activities. Now for my complaints. I have one big one which does affect the usability of the system. That is the trackpad, it is highly inaccurate and I am hoping it is something that can be fixed in a driver update. It is functional but it just seems compared to other laptops (especially my MacBook) that it is jumpy. I have to try very hard to accurately position the pointer on a part of my screen. It is possible it is the material used on the trackpad and how it interacts with my finger though, it does not feel like a higher quality glass trackpad, I feel like I will be using a mouse with this a lot. Otherwise, my other grips are minor. As mentioned, the hard drive is not a SSD so it is a lot slower to load things as it is 5400 rpm. I think 7200 should be required these days but it is what it though. The computer still feels fast but as most hard drives do, it might get bogged down over time as it get full of programs and junk. There is minimal bloatware installed but it is there nonetheless. The only one I uninstalled was McAfee (30 day trial) as I wanted to use a different antivirus scanner. Mostly there are just shortcuts to Priceline, Amazon on eBay. There is some basic Asus software but nothing obtrusive. This might matter to some but I felt Audio was very weak on this device. It has "Dolby Audio" written all over it but the speakers are very weak. They are positioned on the lower part of the front end close to the bottom so they at least point directly at you, but they just sound tiny for such a small device. My iPad gives me bigger sound even though it is a much smaller device. I am pretty sure the Dolby Audio thing is just sound profiles as I there is a menu for this hidden away in the applications. With headphones plugged in they do sound pretty good those on this device, not flat so it is likely that profiles are in effect and not any wizardry on the circuitry side. All said and done, I highly recommend this device. My biggest complaint was the trackpad but it isn't enough to keep me from loving it. It is worth the purchase and I would recommend it for business (certified for Skype for business if that matters to you), students and anyone just needing a decent home computer to do routine work. Gamers stay away and there are probably better products if you want something on the premium side.

Good Build Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is of the Acer R15 laptop. This Acer laptop is built of quality materials, the surface surrounding the keyboard and touchpad is aluminum and has a premium feel. The aluminum panel also adds to the efficient dissipation of heat. The only part of this laptop that I could tell for sure was made of plastic, is the keyboard keys, and the power and volume buttons. The bottom of the laptop appears to be made of either aluminum or metal that is coated with a soft kind of a layer, which seems like it might have been designed to make the bottom surface feel more comfortable if ever sitting it directly on your lap. The entire laptop has a well built feel to it. There are nice thick rubber pads that the laptop sits on. One of the USB 3.0 ports on the left side has a battery icon next to the port, indicating that it can be used as a USB charging port, which will charge devices whether or not the laptop is powered on, this is a really nice addition. The 5400 rpm hard drive is a bit sluggish feeling, compared to a computer with an SSD, but most computers that have an SSD boot drive, also don’t have 1 terabyte storage capacity either, so the hard drive is kind of a trade off. Out of the box the startup times were a bit slow, as a result of some of the programs and background processes that were running, uninstalling a few unwanted programs and apps did make an improvement to this. I would describe this as a well built and reliable laptop with medium performance and long battery life.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop. Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task. As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard. Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice. The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound. One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice. A couple concerns with this laptop were; The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here. The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops. While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of. Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

Versatile 2-in-1 Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Speed: I mainly use this laptop for daily internet browsing and Microsoft Office applications. Even with multiple instances of Word and Excel running, as well as several internet tabs open, I have not experienced any loading delays. For my desired use, this laptop is more than powerful enough. Screen: Though the laptop is fairly large due to its screen size, it is thin and not too heavy. The weight and thickness are great for my on-the-go lifestyle. I frequently carry this laptop around with me, and it is nice to have a large screen without being overly cumbersome to transport. Additionally, the screen is HD, which is definitely noticeable. It is clear and full of vibrant colors. Battery Life: A full charge of the battery gets me through most of the day, but I do wish it was a little better. There have been several occasions when I forgot to pack the charger with me before leaving the house, and the battery did not quite make it through the day. Battery life is an important feature to me, and I have been mostly satisfied, but sometimes I wish it could last longer. I would like to note that I frequently use the laptop throughout the day, sometimes for long sessions, so one charge may last longer for those who use it less frequently. Keyboard and Trackpad: The keyboard is spacious and responsive, which makes typing a pleasant experience. It is also backlit, which is a good addition. I find the backlit keyboard very helpful when using the laptop in a dark setting. Touch Screen and Tablet Mode: The touch screen is accurate and responsive. With the large screen size, it can be somewhat difficult to use in tablet mode while carrying around. However, I do like to use the tablet mode when I am sitting down and browsing the web, especially for reading articles online. Verdict: I have not been overly impressed with the battery life of this laptop, but that is the only complaint I have, and it may not be a problem for everyone. Overall, I think this is a great 2-in-1 laptop that is versatile, portable, and fast enough for my needs.

Very unreliable laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this computer for a year now and it started off great. However, after a few months it goes down hill and now a year later it is very frustrating. You’ll first notice it start to slow down, but eventually it will freeze all together. It now occasionally crashes and it has once crashed to the point where it would not start. You’d better have a backup hard drive of your data, unlike me. I took it to get repaired as I had a lot of stuff on the hard drive that I wanted back. Hoping they fixed the computer back to the original, great condition, I started using it again, but quickly found out that that was not the case. The computer freezes so much now for no reason, I practically stopped using it. Save your money; buy something else.

Excellent all-purpose laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the 3rd Acer laptop I have used over the past decade and they keep getting better. I'll start with the 2 in 1 abilities. You can use it as a regular laptop or fold the screen all the way back to put it in tablet mode. It auto-detects when you fold the screen back to change modes which is very convenient. If you don't want to go full tablet mode you can fold the screen back part way and set it up as a tent (see photo). This provides a stable and convenient set-up for watching videos with the family, 8 gigs of RAM allow for all the multitasking you may need, the 1 TB hard drive provides more than enough space for file storage, and the i5 processor is snappy. Battery life is advertised at 8 hours. After 1 hour of heavy use and playing video I was at 80%, so 5 hours may be more realistic. The back-lit keyboard is another great feature and this is my first device that comes with a USB type C port which I am excited about. My only dislike for this 2 in 1 laptop is the glossy screen. I prefer a matte screen to limit reflections but I am not going to take a star away for personal preference. Overall, this is an extremely functional and affordable laptop that will meet any needs that I have.

Snazzy & Functional with Great Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The form factor of this laptop is really incredible. This unit is housed in a two thirds metal case with a brilliant brushed finish, it looks sick. It's screen and top of chassis(keyboard) boasts the mentioned metal, the base of the unit/bottom is plastic with a non slip finish which helps grab the surface it is sitting on when it is in it's numerous positions. It is absolutely adaptable to any ones need in a 2-in-1, but designed to hold up with it's metal finish and metal hinges. I have to admit, I was wondering why do we need to have HD(1080p) laptop screens? But now that it sits in front of me it is a crisp and vibrant display, boasting a 1920 x 1080 resolution with IPS technology and LED back-lighting. The options for this laptop on Bestbuy's website include one with Intel's 6th generation i5-6200u or i7-6500u. The unit that arrived for review internally housed the 7th generation i5-7200u at a whopping 2.7 GHz processing speed as opposed to the 6th generation's 2.3 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of ram and a spacious 1 TB hard drive running at the slightly slower speed of 5400 RPM. I feel that this machine would be running on all of it's cylinders, with turbo engaged if it was equipped with a SSD drive. I feel that 1 TB is just way too big for most users, and that the speed advantages of the SSD even at a smaller size, would benefit this device. One can always connect up an external drive if you need more storage space, especially with the supplied USB 3 ports. This review is a breeze to type up in any lighting with it's backlit, compact keyboard. The 10-point multi-touch screen works with high precision. With such a high resolution, upon starting it up, I figured it might be hard to use the touch interface, but it isn't, as you can see in the image, it is simply easy to select text even at this resolution. Battery life is spec'd at 9 hours, maybe if you have the brightness down the whole way and do minimal touch screen transactions. I seem to get about 4-5 hours with mid brightness. I did see a slight improvement when I turned off location and Bluetooth, to 5+ hours. It's a big screen and power hungry hard drive chomping at it's 4 cell, 3220 milliampere hour battery. Just remember to bring your power adapter, which by the way I personally feel that the connector for this laptop is a bit small and I fear it may be a major weak link on this device. I am real careful when plugging in and using the device while tethered to the wall, but I can imagine if one is not diligent with the power cord while using it, it could be broken, quite easily. Here are some of the specs of this Laptop 2-in-1: Windows 10 Home Intel Core™ i5-7200u (7th Generation) Intel© HD graphics 620 8GB DDR4 Memory 1000 GB HDD No Optical Drive 8-9.11ac +BT (Connectivity) No LAN (Local Area Network connection) HD Camera 4-cell Li-Ion Battery (3220 milliampere) Office 365 1-month trial My Pros for this unit: Display = Amazing Keyboard = Well Designed Touch Screen = Precise Form Factor = Snazzy & Functional Performance = Very responsive even while multi-tasking My Cons for this unit: Power Connection = Seems Flimsy Hard Drive = Trades off speed for space Battery = Could be better Weight = A bit heavy at lbs.

fast, lightweight and solid
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a new PC that was lightweight but well made-not plastic-and this Dell meet and exceeded my expectations. It is fast and maintains its speed from startup to finish. I love the back lit keyboard and the battery is adequate-not exceptional but not bad either. Only negative for me is the charger plugs in on the left side instead of the right of the computer.

Love this laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's fast, responsive, and just looks cool! Okay, it's kind of silly but the first thing I notice is the backlit keyboard and beautiful full HD touchscreen. I didn't think I'd like touchscreens as much but now I find myself trying to touch every screen I use, on my Chromebook, my work laptop, even on my daughter's computer when I was performing some maintenance on it. They don't have touchscreens and I miss it. The screen doesn't wobble and feels incredibly secure while using it as a touchscreen. It lays flat or folds all the way back, making for a huge tablet but that's okay. Every once in a while I use it like that and love it. I've even played Asphalt 8 and it worked like a champ. It's not really a gaming computer but the little I've played with, it's been great. Watching videos on it is excellent, the keyboard is large and comfortable, plus it's got a number keypad on the side that I'm glad to have when working on spreadsheets or entering data. It's mostly quiet, the fan kicks on every so often but it's only really noticeable once in a while, specifically when the CPU is being run a bit harder than normal. The I5 processor is quick, the touchscreen is easy to use and accurate, and the 1TD HDD is faster than I expected. One day I may change it out for an SSD but I'm not in a rush. The wifi on this thing is better than average and I haven't had any problems surfing the internet, streaming music or videos, or videochatting on Hangouts. As I said, I love this laptop and I'm glad I bought it.

Great midrange laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for about a month now and I really love it. It's light, it's thin, the screen is great, the keyboard is great, and it has enough power overall to do everything I need it to do and more and looks great doing it. I'm a power user, so I'm picky. I looked at and studied a lot of laptops in my purchasing process, and bang for my buck was what ultimately led me to this. It's not a gaming machine, but that's not why I bought it. This fully exceeds my needs and a couple of my wants. Highly recommended in this price range

Nice 2in1
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think the build quality on this pc is fantastic, Great processor and ram. One of the better keyboards and key feel that I've used and the keyboard is backlit. I love this pc, however, there's one major issue....backlight bleed. I like this pc so much that I'm on my 4th one. I've returned 3 of these so far because of the backlight bleed issue, which I've nerver experienced with any pc, display or tv before. I showed the geek squad guys and the store manager the issue and they all told me to return it. I keep being told that the backlight bleed issue is a bad thing, but, no one can tell what any future issues I may encounter with this. I'm going to get in touch with Acer to see what the deal is because this is the 4th one that has the same problem. I would have given 5 stars if not for this issue. I would have given it 3 stars because of the issue but I gave it 4 because the price was right and it runs so well. If anyone has an answer as to whether or not the backlight issue will create future problems, please let me know. I really don't want to take this back again.I would definitely recommend if the backlight problem is not a future issue, but, I don't know so I can't recommend this pc.....yet

Terrific computer for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great display, good speed, very light and thin. Great battery life. I've run it for 7 hours on battery alone a few times. Keyboard layout is more user friendly than most other computers I've owned and/or shopped for. A few too many useless or redundant Acer installed proprietary applications but those were easily dealt with and deleted.

Great laptop for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitant at first. after having this laptop for a couple of months and traveling with it I am sold. I have used this computer a lot while traveling and never had any issues even with it being carried in a backpack. the screen looks great. I use it mostly for school work, programming, watching movies and it is plenty fast enough. I can have Pandora, internet, and my programming software all running at the same time with no issue. The battery life is also great. I now don't have to be worried about being tethered to an outlet while watching movies which is great for long 8 hr flights. also having usb 3.0 is a great addition especially when transferring files between a 3.0 enabled external hard drive. I would say that for the price of this computer and the what you get its a great deal.

After One Week...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the R5-571T-57Z0 about one week ago after trying another laptop from a different company which I returned to the store the same day I purchased this one. I am happy with this purchase of the R5-571T-57Z0. Out of the box, it took about an hour to set up because of some system updates that were done automatically. I didn't mind that. During the updates, and with the system plugged in, id did not overheat, or even feel warm when I touched it (about an hour). The system runs good with the factory installed hard drive for any average user. Normal operation of the R5-571T-57Z0, running MS Office programs and web browsing, it worked flawlessly. It streams video extremely well. Once again they system ran really cool while plugged in or on battery power. Over the past couple of years, I've become accustomed to the speed of SSD's, so I did purchase a 480 Gigabyte SSD from best buy just today and installed it with ease right after I cloned the HDD. Now, this laptop is blazing fast. Boots up within seconds versus the speed of booting with the original HDD. But like I mentioned earlier, it runs good with the factory installed hard drive. It's just my preference for the SSD. The display has a very clear and sharp picture. I don't plan on using this as a tablet, so I haven't flipped the screen over. I really don't plan on it. Overall, so far (only a week), this has been a great performer. Over the week, I've mainly used this for college coursework, web browsing, and heavily streaming video. This was my first Acer purchase, and so far, so good, especially with the HDD to SSD upgrade.

Great Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is perfect for anyone that is looking for a good dependable laptop. I bought the laptop Aug, 2016. Almost 5 months later and the laptop is great still. I recently "upgraded" my HDD to a SSD. It was very simple and really fast to do. Honestly, before I installed the SSD, the laptop ran great still. I was using it for school as I am in college. I ran virtual programs on here and they ran with ease. The SSD was purely optional but is always recommended for that extra performance. I do not regret my buy and enjoy all the features it comes with. The light up keyboard is awesome at night and the keyboard has a high quality feel to it.. Overall, I would most certainly recommend this laptop to anyone!!! (except gamers lol, I ran battelfield 4 on this at low settings and I was getting about 40fps but the cpu was struggling...)

Good computer for price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was initially very pleased with this computer, the clear images that can be viewed from any angle, the back-lit keyboard, the long battery life. Someone said in a review that their Acer Aspire R15 had a loud fan. I wouldn't call it loud, but it is definitely noticeable when running; occasionally there is an ever so slight buzzing sound. However, the fan doesn't run that often. After only 6 weeks of use, one key has become detached from the keyboard, fortunately one I don't use - F1. I use the touchscreen only when a lot of scrolling is involved, so then it is a nice feature. I don't use it as a tablet because the screen is so big.
