It is expensive but the quality and the feel impressed me the most, this is a really nice machine, the only negative I found, it felt big, heavy and a it is thick, not so portable, felt like a brick, but everything else was excellent, the whole feel, the color, the gold accents, the keyboard, the lighting of the keys, the glass track pad with haptic feedback, the sharp vibrant display, fast and snappy, everything was good about this machine, I loved it. Recommended. It feels expensive.

I upgraded to this from a Samsung Chromebook Plus V2(2018) and everything is a solid upgrade except for the speakers. The speakers aren't bad just not something I'd rely on for music. Display is very good for a non-oled, performance is excellent, keyboard/track-pad are solid. In my opinion the best part about this laptop is the build quality. It's built like a tank compared to most other Chromebooks.

    Great Chromebook, Lackluster AI-Infusion

I needed a Chromebook for a classroom project, so picked up the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 as it could double as a table with the touch screen and ability to fold flat. I mainly needed it to be easy to pick up and go while running ChromeOS. Pros: - Great performance for a Chromebook. - Touch Screen. - Folds flat. Cons: - Limited upgrade options. - AI Integration adds little to no benefits for most Users. Setup: This was the first time I got to set up a new Chromebook, so it was a new experience but very familiar as I’ve had to troubleshoot issues on Chromebooks before. But overall, the process is almost the same these days regardless of the operating system. Power on the device and be greeted with a guided setup that usually starts with connecting to the internet, then logging in or creating an account, with some customization options at the end. For the ChromeOS, it helps to have a Google account already, as it streamlines the setup process and loads most of your existing settings and Apps. Hardware: The Plus Spin 714 comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor with a total core count of 14 cores: 4 performance, 8 efficient, and 2 low power cores. The Intel Core Ultra introduced the use of Low Power Cores, which help with increasing the battery life and reducing heat by running background tasks on lower powered cores. One thing to note about this CPUs is that Intel has already outdated it by the newer AI focused Lunar Lake cores that are releasing later this summer, Lunar Lake will have roughly 4x the performance in AI related tasks compared to the Intel Core Ultra Series 1. So if you are mainly focused on the AI-Infused features, then you may want to wait a few months for the new CPUs to come out. There is 8GB of DDR5 memory, this is soldered on and not upgradeable. For storage, there is 256GB of solid-state storage on an NVMe included, this could be upgraded to a larger size, but Acer only lists support up to 512GB though most likely any Gen 4 NVMe could be supported. The display is an ISP Touch Screen panel with a resolution of 1920 by 1200, a 16:10 ratio. The peak brightness is 340 nits with 100% sRGBG coverage. The web camera is on the nicer side at 1440p QHD with a full resolution of 2560 x 1440 at 30 frames per second. A built-in privacy screen is included. Paired with the webcam is dual-mic support, which works well enough to cut out background noise. The keyboard has backlighting. Bordering the sides of the keyboard are two upward facing speakers. The multi-touch keypad is about 4in by 3in. For ports, on the left side is 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports that can also charge, a full-size HDMI 2.0 port, and the power button. On the right side is 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port, a combo jack, and a volume control button. The laptop is technically thin and light, at 0.71in thick and 3.21lbs, which makes it easy to transport day to day. Additionally, Acer included a well-padded laptop sleeve with a pocket that keeps the Chromebook safe during travel. General Use: ChromeOS is easy to navigate, feeling like any phone or tablet navigation. Paired with the Touch Screen, the experience is almost identical to a table or phone. I had no issues navigating to the apps, browsing websites, and typing up this review! I was concerned that the screen brightness might not be enough to use the device in direct sunlight, but that proved to be no issues, the screen was still clearly visible without straining my eyes. Though, with the ability to fold in half to a tablet mode you can just pick up and go as needed. Not a huge concern, but the Keyboard has a bit of a weird feel to it, I want to say the tactile response just feels off for what should be a pretty good keyboard. It probably is more my own personnel preference, but I found typing on the Plus Spin 714 not completely pleasant. The camera, mic, and audio were all amazing compared to other Chromebooks I’ve used, the camera quality really stood out as it was comparable to an external USB camera with how clear and smooth the image quality was. The dual mics did good cutting out background noise, but I prefer headsets for most of my calls, the audio and mic would do great in a pinch. The battery life is pretty good, the stated 10 hours is pretty accurate even without cutting too many corners. Though this is not the best battery life for a Chromebook, for the amount of added features included with the Plus Spin 714, it is a pretty decent run time. AI Features: I’ve had quite a bit of exposure to the whole AI movement going on with work and hobbies. But I found that the Plus Spin 714 has fallen into the “Slap AI On It To Sell” category. The claimed added benefits of AI-Infused features really don’t stand out enough compared to other similar laptops. I didn’t find there to be enough benefits here to the capabilities to justify calling out the features. The best addition to the AI tag is the included 12 months of Gemini Advance, that’s an extra $240 in savings that is usually an additional $19.99 a month charge. But for most users, the standard free features are plenty enough to summarize, help write, or find the answer to a question. But in the case where you don’t want to wait or have any limits on the number of uses, this would be a cheaper way to do it over shelling out for the monthly charge. Performance: I’m going to start off by simply saying, this is a Chromebook. That should set your expectations, this is not going to be playing any high-end games nor cranking out algorithms, but the provided hardware is more than enough for the average User who just wants to browse the web, watch videos, take some calls, or type up some papers. This is a perfect laptop that is a step up from a budget laptop for student or administrative tasks. I didn’t encounter any issues browsing the web, listening to videos like YouTube or Netflix, or using office applications. The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 tackled multitasking perfectly, even plugging in an external monitor to so some video watching while typing and browsing the web was no issue for this Chromebook. Conclusion: I would highly recommend the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 to anyone looking for just a basic laptop that can handle general tasks like streaming videos, office tasks, or video calls. I would not recommend this for lite gaming, but mobile games or simple web browser games work just fine. Treat this like a phone or tablet, and you will come out with a mostly positive experience! If you’re looking for something that takes advantage of AI-Infused features, I’d suggest waiting 3-4 months to see what comes out with the upcoming hardware enhancements. Or to grab this when it inevitably goes on sale.

Honestly the best quality I could’ve imagined for my first computer, still have yet to try to draw on it but I have really high hopes. Seems like it’s going to last awhile and I’ve had this for well over 6 months. Battery life could be better but for the touch screen and everything else I would say it’s pretty solid

I have been using Chromebooks for about a decade and have been a big fan. I have always preferred their boot up speeds, update speeds, and superior virus/malware protection compared to that of traditional laptops. This new model from Acer impressed me and will keep me coming back to Chromebooks in the future. Pros: - The specs are excellent on this device. You'll get 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of solid state storage. Chromebooks are famous for quick start-up, but add in a solid state drive and you are up and running in seconds every time. 256 GB is a LOT of storage space for a Chromebook as I have yet to see one with this much capacity. - The size of this Chromebook is perfect for portability. It's lightweight and fits perfectly in a backpack or shoulder bag for use on the go. My bundle also came with a nice fabric sleeve (pictured) to give it extra protection when traveling. I've found myself using it even if I'm not taking it anywhere to keep it protected from dust. - My favorite feature, and most Chromebooks cannot do this, is the ability to double as a tablet. The screen will flip a full 360 degrees to allow it to lay flat or to be held like a tablet. I use this feature if I want to play any of my favorite touch screen games from the Google app store (like Plants vs Zombies), or if I want to annotate something on the screen with a stylus. - The full HD screen is gorgeous. - This Chromebook has an HDMI port. This is a rare feature for Chromebooks and I appreciate having it. - The build quality is excellent. I love the feel of the back-lit keyboard keys and the track pad works well. Cons: - The price of this Chromebook is on the higher end. You'll get excellent specs for the extra cost, however. - The Gemini AI app was fun to play around with, but I don't know how often I'll use it. It did write me a cool song about squirrels that had a catchy chorus. I imagine that students would benefit most from this feature. After having used this Chromebook for several days, I am a fan. Windows laptops just seem incredibly slow in comparison and I can't imagine switching back to them. Unless you have a critical need for a specific OS like Windows or MacOS, I highly recommend going the Chromebook route. And this model from Acer is a terrific option.

The perfect companion at the right size, the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is versatile, lightweight, compact, and loaded with memory and speed. Equipped with a WUXGA Touch Display made of antimicrobial Gorilla Glass and encased in a military-grade aluminum body, the Chromebook Plus is more than just another laptop. This fourteen-inch (14”) Chromebook is a 2-in-1 whose screen rotates 360 degrees, allowing for a kickstand, a computer, and even a tablet. It is equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 8 GB of LPDDR5 Memory (up to 16 GB), and a 256GB Solid State Drive (up to 512 GB). It can boot up in 10 seconds. With the H1 built-in Security, there is no need to purchase and download additional anti-virus software, as this security is designed and manufactured into the Chrome OS, which the Chromebook developed on and operates on. The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 14 "Laptop operates through a unique system of pre-installed apps, offering a different user experience from a regular PC. It also supports the use of a compatible stylus for drawing and has installed photo enhancers and writing programs. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can easily download the Word app and continue your work. A new feature of this model is the addition of Google’s version of AI. Installing Google’s Gemini during setup allows you to be highly creative with this feature. First, I asked Gemini to draw a watercolor painting of a stream through trees in the summer. It presented four options and asked if I wanted more. I had it generate two more. They were all good, and the ability is already loaded on the laptop to fine-tune the colors, their saturation, etc., and various other aspects of the painting. Next, I asked Gemini to draw me a West Highland Terrier dog and a Scottish Terrier dog, and the response presented excellent examples of both in various poses. Then I asked it to tell me the difference between a West Highland Terrier breed and a Scottish Terrier, and it wrote several paragraphs explaining the difference. It left out a significant point about how the West Highland Terrier originated from the Scottish Terrier. Still, it admitted that Google AI was not perfect and presented the Google search bar so that I could check the information. I also asked Gemini to create a 12-week plan by which I could learn the French language, and it presented me with three excellent options. With purchase, you receive an AI Premium Plan for one year, which includes twelve (12) free months of Gemini Advanced, 2 TB of cloud storage, and the use of Gemini in Gmail and Docs. The price to continue with the Google AI Premium Plan is $19.99 a month. This Chromebook is an excellent companion for anyone’s internet needs, especially if they use Gmail, an Android phone, Google-based programs, and/or Chrome. Among its excellent features is a backlit keyboard, which is especially useful in low-light areas. It also has a built-in HDMI port, dual USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, a USB Type-A port, and a headphone jack. Acer offers a one-year warranty on both parts and labor. Perfect for students and as a starter computer for teens, it is also a sensible choice for individuals whose internet platform is Android or Google-driven. This Chromebook model is designed to work seamlessly with all Google devices and programs and would be an excellent addition to their computing devices. Packaged with a well-designed cloth laptop sleeve to protect it, it is sleek enough to fit easily in a backpack or briefcase. I am impressed with the Acer Chromebook Plus 714 Flip. Its lightweight, compact, and versatile design, speed, and potential to do many tasks and integrate them so well make it an exciting purchase.

The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is the perfect premium Chromebook for your needs. It feels premium in the hands and is very well built with great materials and it doesn't feel cheap. The screen is crisp and provides plenty of brightness. You can flip the screen over into a tent or flat into a tablet shape. The screen also has touch controls so you aren't limited to just the keyboard and trackpad. The keyboard is backlit and feels responsive to the touch. The speakers are well tuned and provide great sound even at maximum volume, I didn't notice any distortion. The Chromebook charges fast via a USB-C cable and it was easy to move around. One nice touch that Acer did was provide a nice zipper sleeve for the Spin 714 to carry it around or to throw in your bag, not a lot of manufacturers include accessories anymore so it was a nice touch. Finally the battery life is great at around 10 hours at medium brightness although your mileage may vary, it should be enough to get through a work or school day. I'm happy with the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 and if you're in the market for a Chromebook then don't hesitate and get this one!

Great laptop. Very good screen with 340 nits of brightness. Great keyboard and as always, Acer has the best feeling track pads with their ocean glass tech. Speakers are great and there is virtually no fan noise. It is a little hefty. Battery could be better and needs charging ports on both sides. It also needs a fingerprint reader. Those two things lowered my rating from a 5 to 4. Very solid though!!

This has been a nice upgrade from my Acer Spin 514, I rather like the HD screen resolution and 16:10 screen ratio on this. The 714 gets rather loud, but are not going to be a college dorm DJ with this thing. The body body seems sturdy and the hinge seems rather durable. With the decent security of a chromebook & regular updates from Google. (This will keep getting updates until at least Jun 2034). In my opinion this would be a great choice of Chromebook for a young teen or an older adult that does not want to worry about doing security updates to keep their machine secure. You have the power of websites at your fingertips, but do not. expect to be downloading a bunch of games or programs on this. Good: Same great security/regular updates with this Chromebook. Good battery life** (read below for the battery cons) Rather good keyboard for typing. And the battery life & screen is decent enough for a media consumption device for streaming youtube or something like Max or Hulu. Bad Stuff: I wish the screen was brighter. The battery life on this chromebook drains much faster than I would like. For $699 It is rather disappointing to not get 16GB of RAM, that would have made this chromebook's life much longer into the future. Ugly: I wish it had a finger print reader to unlock the device.

I have to confess, I'm not impressed by "Chromebook Plus." I've been a casual Chromebook user since the Acer C710 (released in 2012), and I've seen a lot of different iterations of the Chrome OS operating system. The Chromebook Plus devices are supposed to utilize AI to do more than your average Chromebook. While I can see a lot of possibilities with Google's Project Gemini, I also feel like a lot of the features and functions are somewhat "half baked" right now. The first thing I noticed after setting up the Spin 714 was that the icons for all of my installed websites broke. Attempting to reinstall them to restore the icons has failed, and I'm basically just stuck with a bunch of grey icons right now. I then tried to use the AI wallpaper generator. It failed. It failed repeatedly. As of the time of this review, I have not been able to get it to work once. Gemini itself worked a little better. I asked it an array of questions, and it responded coherently and largely correctly. In a couple instances, it even expressed some doubt about its own answers and cautioned me to double check the results. As far as hardware goes, the Spin 714 feels like a premium device. The keyboard is backlit, the trackpad is large and smooth, and the hingle mechanism feels sturdy (and is super shiny). Screen bezels along the left and right edge are very thin, the camera has a physical switch for turning it off, and the screen is both bright and vivid. I think Google has some major bugs to iron out where these Chromebook Plus devices are concerned, but I definitely see the potential. I'd recommend maybe holding off a few months while Google figures things out and then re-evaluating if this is the device for you.

The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 Laptop is my first Chromebook as I have always been a Windows user. There are some differences that I have to get used to - but overall this is a great product. This laptop is lightweight at only 3.2 pounds and it is very easy to carry around. It is very thin and made with a durable aluminum chasis. I hope I never have to find out - but it says it is verified to meet military grade duribility certification. It has a 14-inch touch display which is bright and clear, with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The touch screen is very convenient for scrolling through webpages and browsing the internet. The screen flips all the way around so you can use it like a large tablet. One of the biggest adjustments for me has been moving to the different operating system. I have always used Microsoft products installed on my computer - now I have to access them through web or applications. It takes some getting use to - but it works. The only drawback I have found so far is not being able to install some programs that I utilize for work. There are some specific event planning software programs that I use which will not work on the operating system. Overall, this is a great laptop that is fast, has good storage, and the battery life is great!

I had an Acer 713 Spin which was an amazing chromebook. Unfortunately I tried to clean a sticky key and broke it, only to find out it could not be repaired. That led me to two days of research and a bunch of YouTube videos. I ended up purchasing the Acer 714 Spin. My only concern prior to purchase was screen brightness. At 340 nits that was considerably less than 450 nits of my prior machine. It turns out I can hardly notice a difference. The 714 Spin has exceeded my expectations in every way. An all steel beautiful chassis with superior build quality compliments the exceptional backlit keyboard. The Core 5 Intel processor is fast and can handle anything. I bought it at $699. The next day it went on sale at $579. I went back to the store and they refunded the difference. Awesome Chromebook. I couldn't be happier.

Acer is a good brand, who is known for producing high quality, reliable, and durable products. This Spin 714 is no exception. It’s made from aluminum, which gives it a cool-to-the-touch feel if you leave it sitting on a desk overnight, and it feel premium in general. There’s no noticeable creaking or flexing in the body and it is able to survive some light drops. The screen of the laptop is nothing outstanding, but, it’s one of the better displays you’re able to get on a Chromebook. It’s a bright, clear, and vivd display which peaks out at around 340 nits (which is plently for indoors, but could struggle in direct sunlight), the speakers are only okay, but that’s to be expected. Overall, I give this laptop a 9/10. Would buy again.

I have a mixed opinion after using this Chromebook for a few weeks. The built quality seems fine and the keyboard in comfortable. It was incredibly easy to set up and pairs with my phone almost automatically. It doesn't support too many open tabs--I was hoping with the new i5 chip and the sparer OS I would be able to keep 10 or more tabs open but whenever I open more than 8 or so performance suffers or it hangs up entirely. Also, from time to time the screen flickers for no obvious reason and also sometimes it just restarts by itself. So mixed. I don't know how many of these problems are characteristic of Chromebooks in general, how many might relate to this model, or if my unit might just have issues. Still, I like using it, its very portable, and the battery lasts a long time.

I've had this Chromebook for about 2 weeks now and it has met and possibly exceeded my expectations. I had a 3 year old Chromebook that was pretty cheap and it was just super slow. I liked the idea of a Chromebook because of the ability to take it for travel and not worry about viruses. Plus I like something light and responsible, I mostly use websites like Canva and also check email programs. The machine is way more responsive than my old one and I would say it is great. The touch screen is good, but not as responsive as my old Chromebook. The keyboard is great, I have no complaints

I got last year's model for my daughter and was rather impressed with it. I know for myself that I would want the spec bump that the 2024 model offers. Being a Pixel 9 user in a home that has a lot of google integration the Gemini features were wanted and this model certainly offers that. I was looking to upgrade from 2018's Pixelbook Go which has served me quite well for 7 years now but was showing it's age. Chromebooks have come a long way in terms of features in recent years and this line seemed to be getting a lot of positive reviews and word of mouth. I wanted something that I could work on and multi taks with. The DDR5 RAM is much faster than DD4 and the Ultra 5 115U has great speed. The flip features are really nice even if I dont anticipate needing them very often. Overall, if you want a speedy chromebook with modern specs, this is a great option. The only thing I would change, personally, would be to make 16GB of RAM the base offering in 2024. This is not Acer's fault, per se, as the standard is 8GB. But as we move into the future 16GB will be more and more useful, especially in keeping the machine "fast" for 5 years or more. One other small item might be moving the USB-C ports to only the left side. For me personally, this does not affect me, but having an option on the right side, like in years past, would be great.

I was looking forward to this, as I enjoyed an Acer chromebook I had some 15 years ago. I wanted to finally upgrade by replacing the great pixelbook I've used since it came out. I thought the Acer Chromebok Plus Spin 714 was the one. I was wrong. First of all, it seemed quite expensive (even with a sale price) for what you get. But most of all it felt twice as thick and three times as heavy as my pixelbook. I couldn't imagine using this every day for hours on end. Also, it honestly felt just as snappy as the now quite old pixelbook, with a performance that wasn't anywhere near what I had expected. As others have mentioned, the screen is unusually shiny, reflective, and gave off a blinding glare day and night (unless I turned out all of the lights). Unlike my experience with other chromebooks and laptops, this made the Acer unusable. The tinny speakers, while subpar, didn't bother me much if I could use my headphones. I quickly returned this to Best Buy (grateful for their return policies). Maybe new generations of Acer chromebooks will improve the user experience. But I'll be reticent, and wait to hear from others before taking the plunge with them again.
