A Powerful Gaming PC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Predator Orion 5000 with i7 and RTX 3080 is an absolute beast. It does a great job of checking off many of the important points sought out by gamers. Are you looking to max out your graphics in 4K? Check. How about running 240Hz in 1080P for competitive first-person shooters? Check. Other quick notes, the case itself is attractive. Obviously, that’s subjective, but I don’t many people would find it off putting. Decent amount of airflow. Comes with a gaming keyboard and mouse. Has modern support features like DDR5 RAM slots, and m.2 slots. Performance You should expect high performance from this setup. Anyone who keeps up with PC gaming components knows the combination of an RTX 3080 and a 12th gen i7 is quite the punch. This is a combination that will confidently futureproof you for the long term. For reference here’s a few games I play: Risk of Rain 2, PUBG, Overwatch. Here’s some performance notes for each: Risk of Rain 2: Maxed out settings, between 70 – 140 FPS. 1080P. PUBG: Maxed out settings, between 150 – 300 FPS. 1080P. Overwatch: Maxed out settings, between 130 – 180 FPS. 4K. The majority of the games I play, I play on my 1080P monitor because I strongly prioritize framerate over resolution. Some people might think this setup is overkill for 1080P, but I disagree. My 1080p monitor is 244Hz. That still squeezes every ounce of performance of this setup on maxed settings. However, older games like Overwatch I play in 4K since 150ish FPS is enough for me. Also, racing games like Forza Horizon 5 plays amazing in 4K. More than enough frames to be enjoyable. The performance of this PC will not disappoint regardless of your gaming preferences. Build Quality I took a good apart of this PC apart to check for quality. The biggest knock-on prebuilt PCs has always been the build quality and the quality of the component use. I didn’t find any real red flags. The motherboard is a custom motherboard, appears to be of reasonable quality. The RAM sticks are extremely basic. They have no heatsink, however this isn’t really concerning as RAM doesn’t really get hot enough. I removed the SSD to inspect it. It’s manufactured by Samsung which is a great SSD maker. I expect it to be reliable. The case fans provide good airflow and seem of decent quality. The GPU is exactly what you expect. It runs cool and has three fans. All in all, it appears to be of good quality, and I don’t foresee long-term issues. Conclusion If you aren’t interested in building your own PC, obviously you must buy a pre-built. Acer is a large computer company that makes PCs in all shapes and sizes. This should give them an edge as far as consumer trust. I am a fan of buying gaming PCs from companies that didn’t spring up a year ago. My point is, if you are going to buy a prebuilt gaming PC, go with a company like Acer. If this level of performance is something you are looking for, then the Orion 5000 is a great choice.

Everything I needed and more.

Fairly priced, booted up right away, and it just works wonders. I use this machine for Video Processing, Leading my High-Production Online Lessons for IT Professionals, and Gaming. With a 1TB Solid State Drive, everything loads exceptionally quickly. Video encoding is a breeze (fastest ever), and producing my live, online lessons is painless, clean, and fast. For gaming, I couldn't ask for better. It simply has everything you need. I run every game at max settings, maintaining a clean 120 - 144 fps. Further, I had to install my old Harddrives into this machine in order to pick up everything I needed to work. This PC comes with 2 additional HDD slots, where I store all of my digital assets and videos. The caddies made it incredibly easy to install, and loading from my old harddrives was faster than it was on my old PC (which was quite unexpected). This computer accomplished everything I needed it to. Painless. Literally plug it in, turn it on, and enjoy.
