I’ve used it his for about a week, unfortunately I’ve had nothing but problems with it. Set up was pretty straightforward, and simple to get it going. But that’s where the problems started. From day one I had issues. First the $50 Sling Tv credit did not work, a call to customer service remedied this in about 24 hours. Next I scanned and was able to acquire 68 local channels with the digital antenna.
Once that was done I settled in to watch some tv. First thing, SlingTV froze and I had to reset everything to get it to work. I was able to watch for about an hour before SlingTV froze again. So I decided to give the locals a whirl, this worked great for a couple of hours before all channels would show a frozen picture and ingot sound only. I ended up having to reset once again which fixed this issue, only to have it happen again within 30 minutes. I still have not been able to watch SlingTV, it just won’t quit freezing up.
Just for reference, I have used Roku and Fire TV everyday for the past 2 years with no issues, so it is not my internet service.
After a week of trouble with AIRTV I finally gave up. I can not recommend this device to anyone, it is just too buggy.

I got the AirTV from Sling TV. It is Android TV ver 6.0 and will get Google assistant voice control in a future update according to Google press releases.
Bad: The TV tuner adapter doesn't use 5.1 DD sound even though OTA signals contain DD 5.1.
The 2 USB ports on the back are 2.0 and only support the fat32 format which limits files to 4GB. Movie rips are always over that unless highly compressed, so no large files can't be stored on the external HD.
Some apps like Amazon video and Vudu are Nvidia Shield TV exclusives. (You can 'sideload' Vudu though)
The USB TV tuner will only work with the AirTV. It doesn't work with 'live channels' app, only the SlingTV app. I couldn't get it to work at all with Shield TV or PC.
The Good: I love the 'find the remote' button on the main unit.
The OTA channel guide is in grid form and is fully integrated with the SlingTV guide.
The remote has bluetooth and IR control. (so does the base unit, so the Harmony IR remotes will work.)
The remote has a mic button and a mic for voice input.
It has a SPDIF optical audio output for older AVRs.
It's fast and responsive to inputs.

As someone who is in the midst of cutting the cord, the Air TV seemed to be a logical next step toward progress in my decision. The promise of combining OTA and streaming services seemed to be too hard to pass up.
The Air TV comes in a very modest, compact box. It contains everything needed for setup, with the exception of an OTA – which is understandable. The device is solid, well built, and has a very elegant look to it – it would fit well in any living room. The remote is another story. I wanted to recheck the box to make sure there wasn’t an age recommendation on it. Quite simply, it looks like a toy – cutesy and all. Maybe it’s the color scheme, but you will notice it.
Plugged it in, connected it, and powered it up… Setup time! The setup was very straightforward… and long. Granted, it held my hand and walked me through every step, but the updates served to be a hiccup in the process. I had an Android device, so I fit the mold perfectly, as AirTV uses Android TV as its base OS. With my phone, I was easily able to add the device to my network and with the app, add remote control capabilities to my phone. I’m not sure this feature is very helpful, but it’s a nice to have in cases where the remote can’t be found. Now those updates… Update Android… Update Android TV… Update firmware on remote… Finally, I can actually start watching some TV.
As a streaming device, the AirTV does a pretty good job. It is geared toward Sling TV, so if you don’t have Sling service, be prepared to work around it’s existence. I have officially cut the cord, but Sling is not the service I chose. This was my first experience with the service, as the inability to watch the Disney owned channels (ABC, ESPN, etc) on more than a single device at a time turned me off. I don’t want to turn this into a Sling review, but it’s implementation is worth noting due to its pushed presence. The guide is in no particular order (why isn’t it alphabetical?), and it takes too many clicks to start viewing – in comparison to other services, of course. Use of other streaming services is possible; there is a Netflix button on the remote. With Android TV as the base, you can download apps from the Google Play Store – like YouTube. I can appreciate the AirTV offering this functionality because it serves as a good media device in spite of being geared toward a single service.
As for the OTA option… The AirTV didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Sure, you can integrate OTA channels, but only for a single TV. That means you would need an antenna for each AirTV or a large antenna wired for the entire house. There are already other solutions allowing networked support of OTA channels – an approach that doesn’t limit use to a single device. It would be better if the AirTV served as a hub attached to the network that integrates with the app instances (Sling app) of any devices on the network. My assessment of the current approach is that it’s very limited.
Overall, I don’t feel there is anything special about this device. It is an attractive media player with a strong Sling TV presence, but it doesn’t give you anything too much different than any other media player, seeing as you can just hook your OTA directly to your TV. Now, when they add DVR capability for OTA channels, that could change some things. Until then, it serves as an above average streaming device, due to its impressive specs.

Setup - Out of the box, very simple to setup but takes a bit of time. Attach power cord and connect to the internet. Once powered on, it did get the latest updates to the player, this took about 10 minutes. If you are familiar with the AndroidTV interface, this is exactly what this is. Next, I had a little bit difficulty pairing the remote to the device. I actually had to google these directions. I am not sure if I blew by it in the setup screen but the quick start guide did not come with instructions for the setup. It was easy to find on google and once I knew the correct buttons to hold down on the remote it paired in no time. Once the remote was paired, once again I had to wait about 10 minutes while the firmware was updated on the remote. Once completed, it launches right into the SlingTV app. I already had a SlingTV account so I just signed in. Next, you connect your HD antenna to the AirTV adapter and then plug the adapter directly into the Air Player. It recognizes this connection and a window opens to scan for OTA channels. Once the scan is complete, it loads your local OTA channels right into the guide and you are off and running. Picture quality is really good. Not quite as good of picture as your antenna hooked directly to your TV but none the less high quality. It comes preloaded with Netflix and does give you access to the Google Play Store where you can download other apps such as Hulu and the likes.
I would only use this player if you have a SlingTV subscription. If you are just getting it for a streaming player, I would save a few dollars and probably just go with a Roku player or Amazon Firestick. The real selling point in my opinion for this player is the integration with SlingTV obviously. If you have SlingTV then this is a great product to integrate your locals into the Sling guide. I am really pleased with this unit and the performance is quick and not any lag with performance.

BillMac, Thanks for your note. As you probably know, local channel reception is based on the antenna used and different locations require different antenna. If you are interested in reaching out to us at 1-866-974-1354 or via our Facebook page, our team may be able to help you find the antenna that is right for you and your condo. We can also provide an antenna install service if you are looking to make sure that you a professional installation gives you all of your channels.

Sling TV Streamer Not Quite for Us

The AirTV Streaming Media Player with OTA (Over the Air) has some potential but in our case there are more cons than pros. The 4K (limited by source of course) streaming option is definitely nice and the OTA adapter and option is very cool. Depending on the antenna type you are using and channels in your area this option can vary for you but I can pick up over two dozen channels in my area. Size wise the device is a good size. Plugging in the OTA adapter makes its depth a bit long but it is still small enough to comfortably sit inside any entertainment center cubby or not be too overwhelming sitting on top. The remote is a bit on the large size compared to other devices we have and it needs a couple more buttons. The remote finder option it pretty neat though. Having both Ethernet and wireless options is definitely a plus. I tested both and wireless performance was excellent but with my 1GB fiber internet connection I went with the Ethernet option.
We struggled through the setup a little. The device and the remote (was done separately) both wanted software / firmware updates and it took a while for both to complete. We already have quite a few online streaming services and did not need the Sling TV service. Even though the setup wizard says you can cancel out of the account setup and sign in as a guest, it does not work. You must sign up and create a Sling TV account in order to complete the AirTV device setup. This was a big con for us. We would have much preferred to just link all of our other subscribed streaming services than having to sign up for a new one.
Once you have finished setting up the device up you can tell that the AirTV device is a Sling TV device with additional features. The interface is a bit confusing at first and heavily swayed towards Sling TV. It takes a bit to figure out where everything else is and we felt the interface overall could use a little more fine tuning and made a bit more user friendly. We second this on the channel guide as well. Having an OTA channel guide is a bonus. Overall the guide is a bit laggy and not quite up to par compared to say a cable / satellite service guide or some of the other streaming devices we have. Another thing we don’t like when you have a show paused and then want to fast forward or rewind, it doesn’t not change what is on the screen. It stays paused on the screen image until it is done moving forward or backward.
All in all the AirTV device doesn’t really work for us and our environment. If you are already or are thinking on being a Sling TV subscriber then this device would be a much better choice for you. We will probably give it another chance or two after some software updates.

Great over-the-air HD TV Player

This player is great if you're looking for a solution that uses the HD OTA (over the air) free TV and provides you with a TV guide. The Sling TV service is great and also provides many options to supplement over the air HDTV broadcasting.
Setup is easy, simply connect it to to your TV then to an indoor antenna (or outdoor one if you have one outside). When you power it on the first time, it'll automatically pair to the remote and begin the setup process. From there simply follow the on screen instructions to setup the box. A subscription to Sling is not required but of course does add a decent amount of additional programming (comparable to what you might get with Cable or Satellite packages).
Remote Control... The remote is a good sized remote so it's easy to hold but I was disappointed with the selection of buttons available on it (no channel up/down for example) or extra buttons to assign custom favorite apps to. Outside of that, it works well and the voice activated part works well for searching.
For Over the Air broadcasting this thing is great! Where it falls short is in terms of apps which really would finish off the experience to make it the perfect all in one device... Because it's Android TV (Google) it doesn't have Apps like VUDU or Amazon so you'd still need to use those services on another device or your TV if it has those apps. Note that for VUDU you can cast movies to it but it doesn't work very well. For these reasons (the remote, app selection, and cast not working well for VUDU) I rated it 3 stars. Aside to that, I'd recommend this, especially if you're looking for something that ties Sling TV experience to over the air broadcasting.

This is my first time using one of these streaming media players and I must say that I am impressed. Basically everything is there at the push of a button. I use mine on an Epson projector and it works flawlessly. Yes, there is a bit of setup involved, but it is simple. The device walks you right through it. From opening the box to watching content took about 20 minutes.
I signed up for a free trial on Sling.com and the jury is still out on how good it is. Even without Sling, you have access to Google Play so you can download all the apps you want. Being late to the streaming media party, I must say that I am glad I did not miss the boat.

This is a great little streaming box. Very easy to use and displays a great picture. For streaming services, it works great. The over the air feature is not so great. Freezes up a lot and doesn't seem to be a very clear picture. Overall, it meets all my streaming needs. If you're looking for a box to use for streaming then this is for you. If you want it for the ota feature, I would look at other options.

***YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN OVER THE AIR ANTENNA***
Unpacking and installing the set top device is simple enough as the on screen instructions are clear and concise. I already have an over the air HD Terk antenna for when I needed to watch MLB games because they were not being shown on Optimum's cable service due to contractual issues. My televisions already have built in tuners which allow OTA channels via antenna but this AirTV box scans and shows channels more efficiently, has better signal integrity and more stable quality. The AirTV's connections on the back comprise of 2 USB ports, 1 Digital Audio Out, 1 Ethernet and 1 HDMI of course. The digital out is great for me since I have external speakers I use for all my TVs. The choice of apps is limited at this time but at least you can add Hulu and Netflix, two of the most used streaming apps that I use at home. My main bedroom upstairs does not have a cable box so this little box is perfect for allowing me to see CBS, FOX and NBC and also providing some streaming for now. Perhaps after some future updates there will be additional apps like Plex or international programming. The remote is a contrast to black sleek looking remotes where as the AirTV remote has a clean and easy to read appearance that even younger ones can understand better. I do not see any MicroSD slots for memory or storage expansion so downloading games for example is not ideal right now. I think this AirTV has pretty good potential moving forward. It is intuitive and works relatively fast however the Sling app did freeze up on me a few times already which is not a great start for getting new customers but should be fixed soon hopefully with firmware updates. For the price point I do wish it included some kind of OTA antenna even if it is a lower quality one. You are really paying for a streaming box that has limited apps currently and it requires an antenna on your part for the local broadcast channels. The device is 802.11AC compatible which allows for optimal streaming speeds. I use Roku and Chromecast devices in my house and they work seamlessly with a solid selection of apps and while the AirTV is new and could use some more revisions and refinements, I could definitely see it as a nice streaming/OTA alternative or supplement down the road.

This set top box is an excellent alternative to traditional cable TV and incorporates SlingTV perfectly. The only real down side I noticed is with the integration of broadcast channels, the tuner in my TV and many others can receive channel information and display it but this system only shows the channel logo and name in the lineup with SlingTV channels. It would be great to be able to have the current program displayed as well when looking for what to watch without having to tune to that channel, maybe they'll integrate a channel guide at some point. That is currently the only real downside I've seen. Outside of SlingTV and broadcast channels, this system works like more Android powered streaming boxes, easy to use and set up. Kind of a goofy remote at first but, after you use it with SlingTV it becomes abundantly clear why it's laid out the way it is. For the price, I'd still recommend a Roku Premier but, the soon to come OTA DVR will be a great addition!

So far I’m enjoying the AirTV Streaming Media Player. I new it worked with SlingTV, but I’m impressed with how well it works with Google services. I’m able to access my YouTube videos and subscriptions, Google Play Music, and Google TV. I’m also able to use Google Cast, as if I had a Chromecast. It comes with a USB cable dongle, that allows you to connect to an external TV antenna. This allows you to watch local channels in your area. You can also watch additional channels by signing up for SlingTV service. The remote is easy to use. It comes with a Google button, and Netflix button. The setup process took longer than I expected, because it had to install quite a few updates. This is a nice product, which I’m thoroughly enjoying.

I have a Roku and Fire Tv and I wasn't satisfied with either. They were just too cumbersome to operate, especially for my wife, and other than news, I couldn't get my local channels. I purchased an AirTv and have been completely satisfied. With AirTV and the AirTV OTA adapter you get both cable channels and local channels complete with guides. You have the ability to have Netflix as a favorite channel and apps for others optional streaming services. I have wasted a lot of money on streamers, but I have found the one that really allowed me to cut the cable. Be sure to also purchase the AirTV OTA adapter!

AirTV - 8 GB 4K Streaming Media Player with Adapter - White/blue
When I opened the box of the AirTV my first reaction was either someone was being playful or trying too hard to either be cute or at least standout from the crowd. With it’s blue and white color it really doesn’t go with most of the devices one might have near there TV. But in a kids room it might be right at home. Some may just think its a nice change from the more common black color we see all the time. You sure won’t mistake this remote sitting on your table from others you might have. One thing I hadn’t seen before is it wall mounts. And that is complimented by the remote being bluetooth so you don’t need line of site to operate it. The unit itself seems to be built well enough but from there things are just not quite right. As soon as I connected it to my network it started to update itself. I didn’t get to see what version of Android it actually shipped with but after the update it was on Android TV 6.0.1. That in itself wouldn’t be that big of a problem. The problem is the security path I see it reporting today is from April 2017. This is really not acceptable for what could be an always on device. This makes this streamer very hard to recommend. The manufacturer is claiming that it will get Android 7.x at anytime but if there most current update contains a year old security path what does that say about future support. There are some positives here and some other unknowns. After the update I had problems connecting to the Google Play Store. This is critical since apps that are installed will also need updates. I did finally get the Play Store to update itself and then the installed apps by being persistent but that was another experience that could throw a new user off. The remote will also need to update and that took two attempts as it lost connection during the first attempt. I got closer to the unit and that resolved the final update. If you can looking past these Google update and security issues there are some good things to say. The packing was done very well and it comes with pretty much everything you need including the HDMI cable. That’s a cable that a lot of manufacturers are starting to leave out so it was nice to see it came with one. A big feature set here is Sling TV support which includes a big blue button for Sling TV on the remote. In fact during the setup you have to create a Sling account to continue setting up your Google account. If your a Sling subscriber already this makes access very easy. You can setup an account for a free trial and once setup it does treat Sling as just another app with a quick launcher from the remote. Another nice feature here is the included USB over the air tuner. Mine found 80+ free channels that are accessed in the Sling app. Sling includes your over the air channels in there programming guide and its presented in a fairly simple interface. Picture quality on my 4K TV was nice and clear. I didn’t have issue streaming 4K from YouTube either. Looking at the specifications on the AirTV website doesn’t say anything about HDR support so if that important to you this is probably not your streamer. There is some interesting design choice here like the color and the wall mounting but today you really need to have the manufacture keep there devices patched. Since Sling TV is an app on most streaming device I just can’t recommend this device over the more established brands. I can’t speak to long term support but my first experience leaves me unimpressed.

Make no mistake, this is a Android TV set top box.
Initially I was going to give this a 2 star when I first configured the unit. Why? The Play Store kept force closing. You could not open it long enough to find anything before it crashed. This was even before I signed into Sling.
I configured a free Sling Account to start using the Air TV. You do not need a paid account to utilize everything available to a normal Android TV set top.
After updating to the latest firmware, the same issue with the Play Store persisted. Doing a factory reset corrected the issue, but that should not have been required.
After such a frustrating start to my experience, I ran into my next issue. My son is a HUGE WWE fan, well I am too. The first Android App I searched for was the WWE Network. Well, it was not there. I tried again a day later, misspelled it and the search found it. I can not knock a star for this, but having to spell the app wrong should not have been a requirement. WWE should have been enough. I blame this on Play Store search more than the device itself.
Needless to say, I am not thrilled so far.
I started configuring the over the air channels. This went exceptionally smoothly. For some reason, my antenna picked up more channels hooked up to the Air TV than when it was a direct connect to the TV. There is no reason why this should happen, but a little bit of pleasure started to sink in to the experience.
Now for the odd part, at least to me, my streaming channels are a complete different section in the channel menu than the over the air channels. While it is nice to not need the TV remote to change inputs, the process is not as smooth as it could be. I would have liked to see all the live streaming channels show with my OTA channels.
Another plus, you can record OTA channels and watch them later by attaching external storage. This actually worked with very little pain.
Overall this has been a mixed bag for me, but the positives have made the rough start easier to swallow. I like that I can control everything I need to with a single remote and a single interface. The interface still needs some improvements so it doesn't feel like you are still using 3 different sources (OTA, streaming live and Apps) in 3 different inputs. At least you don't have to find the input button, but a smoother transition should be there.

It does everything the fire stick does (more or less) in terms of running android apps, it seems to have Chromecast ability as well (for me this replaces two devices with one), and the remote seems to (at least for my Samsung 6 Series TV) work the TV (Volume/power). IT is a genius idea well executed, The remote has a microphone, and it appears to me that when you press the 'mic' button, the AndroidTV operating system is 'smart' enough to tie your voice prompt to the last app that request access (meaning, has the ability). So if the app you are in supports it, it will always work with that app when you press it.
I'm an Android app developer (See: Student Centered Classroom Assistant as example), and having seen this device, I'm now interested in developing at least one of my apps towards adding AndroidTV support after seeing this, whether or not there e is an audience for it.

I initially wanted this for an additional TV to simply watch Over The Air (OTA) local channels however I quickly found that this device has Sling TV built in opening up a whole new group of possibilities. The bonus was that it came with a $50 promo code for Sling. Initial setup wasn't bad at all although between setting up accounts and the device updating its apps, firmware updates and scanning for local channels, plan on about 30 minutes to get up and running. It even automatically recognized my TV and set it up to control the volume and turn it on and off. Be aware that I did have to setup a Sling account during setup even though it does show an option to use it as a guest without an account. Not a big deal especially since the first 2.5 months are basically free. Once it completes it is a very smooth setup visually similar to the guide you might see on many cable or satellite services. Going through the guide will offer you both local and packaged channels some I haven't seen before. Overall, initially I am very pleased with the device and may look at adding others and dropping my TV service.
