Customers are saying
Customers are impressed with the Echo (4th Gen)'s sound quality, ease of use, and design. Many appreciate its compact size and the improved bass response, along with its functionality as a smart home hub. While some users experienced occasional issues with Alexa's responsiveness and command interpretation, the positive feedback on sound and ease of setup outweighs these concerns.

Mismatched color and power cord.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up the 4th Gen Echo because our 1st Gen Echo no longer seemed to work with the Plex Skill. With the 4th Gen Echo we can once again use the Plex Skill to play music from our Plex library. That is the extend of the good of the 4th Gen over the 1st Gen Echo in my view. I preferred cylindrical shape, with twist volume control on the top and with speakers pointed in all directions instead of just one direction. As an example of paying attention to details, the dark 1st Gen Echo came with a dark power cord. It appears that all colors of the 4th Gen Echo come with a white power cord. Amazon is scrimping to save a few pennies. The charcoal Echo should have a charcoal colored power cord in my view.

Echo 4th Gen
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The deep sound and sound quality was very good for my needs. It was easy to link to wifi. Its been almost a year since I got it x I have had no problems with it. I had to look up some times what the color ring means. I knocked off a couple stars because of the hidden software feature that was in product. Amazon activated this software program months later that made all the echo products discoverable to be used by someone within range to utilize the echo wifi feature as a neighborhood link up. (cant remember what it was called) . Amazon activated this feature in their own without us knowing. The way I found out was by paying attention to tech stories which mentioned this was happening. The only choice you have is to un-activate that feature. So I am sure there are many people out there that did´nt know this happened. They claim its safe. I immediately read how to un-activate it. That was bullcrap on their part to create this sofrware program that automatically went into service on their end with no say from the customers end. Very bothersome practice. I am mainly a Apple household but went with this product just to get something started like this that was affordable with goid sound.

Generation 4 of Alexa is a no go
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Alexa doesn't quite understand my commands or questions. She doesn't respond in a timely matter. This generations of Alexa is frustrating. Last Generation of Alexa is awesome....at least she listens well.

buggy
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.she’s fine but she doesn’t listen to me sometimes. i’ll say “alexa turn my light on” and she’ll say “ok!” but then doesn’t turn my light on. i have to enunciate “offfff” and “onnn” for her to understand me. she also doesn’t know when im saying her name sometimes. plenty of other bugs. overall too buggy for me to recommend.

Posted .Hi denise. Thank you for your feedback on the Amazon Echo 4th gen. To fix issues with your Echo device not responding:
Make sure you're using the power adapter that was included with your device.
Make sure you have an active internet connection.
Check that your device isn't muted. The light indicator is red when your device is muted.
For devices without a screen: press the Action button to see if your Echo device responds.
To make sure that Alexa hears you, move your device away from walls, other speakers, or background noise.
Speak naturally and clearly.
Rephrase your question or make it more specific. For example, there are many cities around the world called "Paris." If you want to know the weather in Paris, France, say, "What's the weather like in Paris, France?"
Try saying, "Did you hear me?"
Unplug your device and then plug it back in.
You can also ask Alexa to Read Back Your Most Recent Request by asking "Alexa, what’s the last thing you heard?" or Ask Alexa to Tell You Why She Just Did Something by asking "Aelxa, "What just happened?". This will help identify if the action requested matches the action or responses. If these steps do not help, and you are still having functionality issues you can call Amazon customer service, available 24/7 for assistance on the device. You can reach them at 1-888-280-4331. I hope this information is helpful, thank you!

Alexa not nearly as responsive as our echo dots
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have several echo dots for a couple years and like them. I got this new echo for the smart hub to control some light bulbs we had and to be honest we don't like it as it's not nearly as responsive as the dots are. Not sure if it's a defective unit as we haven't tried exchanging it, but Alexa is not nearly as responsive. We ask Alexa to do something and a lot of the time it takes us multiple requests to get it to understand us and do what we want. We have literally been less then 10 feet away as it's talking trying to tell it to stop and it ignores us completely while we are yelling at it. One time I just went over and unplugged it.

Not a "premium sound" (in my opinion)
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did not find any "premium sound." This Echo is just louder than my Echo Dot 3. That is it. I did not find any reason to pay $100 for this device.

Please Read Before Buying!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We own four of these in different sizes and colors, bought/gifted to us over the past few years. The idea was initially great but has degraded over the months/years. If you don't have an Amazon Music account (paid up), the music choices are woefully limited. The games? Try one out for ten minutes and they want to charge a subscription to your Amazon account. Want to hear one of the celebrity voices? Pay six bucks. Things that seem to be free are not. Quality? My older dots are better than the newer ones. The sound is muffled on one, etc. And yes, they are all placed in wifi areas away from interfering objects, etc. Also, there is not voice recognition. If anybody at all, even someone on television or a neighbor outside the window, says one of the "wake words" one of the dots lights up and tries to either answer something not asked, play something unwanted, or sell us something. These usually work well as alarms, can sometimes answer a random question (but often it's a wrong answer, and yes we're all American-born and bred English speakers) Above all, lately? The dots will play maybe two songs or answer a couple of questions before asking if we want items put in our carts. So, as far as those of us on the block here are concerned, these have been reduced to sellers of all kinds. Oh, and alarm clocks. They usually get the times right. Oh, they suck your information. They actually do listen, and I can't tell you who told me, but they don't just "learn" from us as they say, they suck information. We're going to try packing these up and getting Google Nests.
