Can’t beat it
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good coverage, have it on first floor of 2000sf house. Full signal throughout house and most of 0.2 acre yard. Couple deadspots in basement. Free security software (no subscription), which is reason enough to get this. Phone app for managing it is easy to use. Can schedule auto reboots to keep it lean. Have had Netgear, Linksys, Sysco & Belkin in the past, this is by far the best.

Great Performer, but AiMesh is terribly buggy
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great speed, pretty good coverage. OS let's you customize your network to your heart's content. HIghly recommended as a stand alone router. The con is that the AiMesh feature is very buggy. I tried to create a mesh network using another RT-AC86U and an RT-AC68U. Every combination of root/node I could think of resulted in the node dropping out consistently. I couldn't maintain a mesh network for more than 2 hours. As I need a mesh network, unfortunately I'll be returning this unit. I'm disappointed having to return this since as a stand alone router, this unit is amazing.

Best router I've had
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is honestly amazing for it's price point. I was using a 4 year old Linksys router in my basement and recently it has seemed slower and has never had that great of coverage to our second story. Testing my speeds (even at my PC that is plugged into it) I would hit 150mbps max, which is terrible considering I pay for 400mbps. Switching to this router was extremely easy. Setup was probably the simplest I've had. The speeds I'm hitting are 400+Mbps. Plus I have full coverage everywhere in my home, to the garage, and I still pick up signal even across the street when I check the mail.

Never Considered Another Brand
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router to replace a 7-year-old AC-series ASUS router that was still going strong, but was reaching the end of its relevant life. I was happy with it from day one and am just as happy with my new RT-AX86U. My WiFi6 devices are noticeably faster as are R/Ws to my Samba/USB-connected storage devices. I have great WiFi coverage throughout the house with plenty of capacity for browsing and 4k streaming. The GUI interface is intuitive with helps provided where needed and the available ASUS-Merlin firmware unlocks even more functionality. The 2.5Gb port and link-aggregated 1Gb ports help me squeeze every bit of capacity out of my internet plan. Highly recommended.

Good Router with Good Coverage
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent Router. I live in a two story house and the router provides excellent coverage without the need for an extender.

All You Need for Great WiFi Coverage
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tired of trying to prop up my ISP router's lackluster Wi-Fi coverage with various wired and wireless extenders I decided to just replace it. The RT-AX86U was easy to setup and massively improved my Wi-Fi coverage and more than doubled my Wi-Fi speeds even at the edges of my house. Gaming on my Xbox Series X is much improved, and I can use my laptop on the porch as reliably as I can plugged inside my home office. While I thought I needed a better mesh product to cover my house, as it turns out, I just needed a better *router*, though I appreciate having the mesh features should my needs change.

Good coverage, App makes it worth it
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good coverage, but and speed. App is great for parents to monitor kids and limit certain websites. Covered a 2800 sq ft area, would not make coverage thru brick into garage.

Asus RTAX86U review
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The set up process went smoothly. So far the speed of both the 2g and 5g bands are good, and I have good coverage throughout my two-story home. I am pleased with the performance. At any given time I have 3 Echo shows, two Echo dots, 2 phones, 2 tablets, and one computer (and sometimes--one laptop) connnected to my network. In addition, I stream TV. I have not yet tried the router with gaming.

Great Coverage
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this router in use for just under a year. I purchased it to quickly get some wifi up and running in my new home. I had planned to upgrade to a mesh setup, or use additional access points but that has not been necessary. I get great 5Ghz coverage on three floors of a 3,000 sq. ft. house, two main floors and a basement. I'm not a power user or a networking expert, but this thing has been worth the money.

Great WiFi Improvement
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The coverage and speeds couldn't be better. I replaced an Apple Airport Extreme network that had two wired backhaul tower style units and an additional unit to extend the WiFi signal. This one unit covers even more area then I did with Apple setup. If you are looking to improve you WiFi signal pick one up, you won't be disappointed. This can also be used as a mesh network, so if the signal needs to be extended it can grow as needed. I was very happy I could meet my WiFi needs with just one unit.

Best Wireless Router for large home
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to replace a 10 year old Netgear Gigabit router. The coverage is much better. My house is two floor 3600 sq ft and 95% 4 - 5 bars. Very easy to install with the app or web interface (I love the app, very informative as to network activity). Had to disable wifi 6 to get it to work with my older clients. Nice warrenty and free virus protection for the life of the router. I read reviews where the router wifi chips fail after about a year? We will see it that is true. I hope not.

So far, this router is great
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, it’s great. Setup took 10 minutes. Speed was at maximum without adjusting any settings. The router settings page is deep with options. Some of this stuff I’ll never touch. 30 of 31 devices attached right away, and it appears that I’m okay without a triband router. I was able to install the router without using the Asus app—therefore, no need to use a login via Asus. Still, I’m wonder about router-dot-asus-dot-com to manage the router instead of the typical home IP address.

Great wifi gaming router, slow web interface
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been cautiously surveying the landscape for a decent but overpriced wifi router than can handle two internet connections. This fits the bill. Mostly. 2.5g wifi coverage for all my smart home devices works perfectly with full bars nearly everywhere. 5 g not as much, while not terrible was hoping for just a little tiny bit more. The Dual Wan features are helpful but often troublesome for my specific setup; one internet connection has more bandwidth available, but higher latency, while the other is opposite. So the majority of my devices need to be on one connection and one or two can be on the other (gaming). Setting it to 'Fallback' seems like a great idea! But detection for a poorly performing internet connection doesn't trigger with the default settings. Its not superclear on how to get it to 'work' in my use case. Setting it to 'Load Balance' isn't recommended (if your internet connections aren't the same speed), the workaround, does work, but requires you to manually enter a route one (either primary or secondary internet) selecting the IP address per each device. This means you'll have to navigate (slowly) to another screen to manually set your ip address for the said device. All the while your router will reboot itself each time, making you wait and relogin. If you've got smart home devices you can expect to repeat this process at least a dozen times. Prepare to set aside a few hours to make this work and don't expect your internet connection to function while you're doing so. I guess, if Asus is listening, please let us simply define a 'catch all' option to let, for example, all of the 5g connections to go to the main internet and the 2.5g connections to secondary, or at least permit wildcard IP address selectors.

Best router I've ever had
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded from an older Asus router that was starting to give me problems. This thing covers my full house which is around 3600 sq foot. Getting solid connection all day long. Have it set to reboot every morning at 4AM. I have yet to have a connection drop of any kind. I'm easily getting the advertised speeds with it. I have a gigabit connection with mediacom. The GUI was easy to navigate.
