Can’t get Gig speed over WiFi.

Terrible. I have Gig speed internet and I couldn’t get gig speed(or close to it) over Wifi even when I’m right next to this router. Router red light would stay on and state I’m not connected to the Internet even when my modem is plugged in and I can go online via WiFi.

    Serious Connection Issues

This router either has very bad quality control, or the hardware/firmware are flawed. I've had this hooked up for 3 days with a 1 Gig internet plan, and every day the internet cuts out multiple times. The thing is, it requires a modem reboot, not a router reboot, but under diagnostics it says everything is fine, which it's not. Shows the WAN port connected, but nothing has internet. All the lights display that it is functioning normally as well. The modem works fine and is an Arris SB8200 docsis 3.1 modem. When I reconnect my previous Netgear router, it works normally. I've factory reset both the modem and router to no avail. It seems lately people are having issues with this router. A year ago all the reviews were good. But if you check recent reviews from Amazon and Best Buy, you'll see connection drop outs. There's definitely something faulty with this router and it's going back. I'm an Optimum field technician. So I'm well versed in router setups.

I liked the idea of a mesh system so I purchased this router along with another high end Asus Router. The speeds were great and the app is really nice. Problem is I have to reboot this router one to two times a week!!!! There are more than one issue forcing me to manually reboot . One is random devices are dropped from the router. Once I reboot they are reconnected. Another problem is loss of internet, again if i reboot it works again. Very frustrating to pay around $600 for 2 routers that don’t work consistently. Signal is not the issue because I have max bars in every room. Wish I would have went with the Eero system instead. I’m fighting this review after a failed reboot with the app , I had to physically go and reset the router high up in a closet

      Dear Ij2cool,

I sincerely apologize, on behalf of ASUS, for the poor experience you have had with this router so far. Please allow me the opportunity to make your experience with ASUS a better one. I recommend keeping the latest firmware installed to ensure you're getting the best possible performance out of your router. You can find all firmware versions in the link below. Instead of physically restarting the router you can restart it through the router configuration or you can look into setting up the auto reboot feature. I had an old ASUS AC router which has been a workhorse for the past 5 years but I wanted faster speeds so I stuck with ASUS. This router had excellent reviews on multiple websites so to me it was a no-brainer- a brand I trusted and good reviews. It was easy to set up and the speeds were fantastic. I was pleased for 48 hours. Then it started dropping connection constantly. I had to reboot the router 4 times today. Once the connection dropped for a fifth time I reconnected the old router and boxed this one up for a return. I see others on here have had great success with this router so perhaps I’m an anomaly.

Dead within 3 months and RMA is severely lacking

I bought two of these as I was impressed with the integration of multiple units with 2.5GB Ethernet link between them. Running two of these in a 4200sq/ft (smart) house and I have great coverage and amazing bandwidth....for 3 months. Then the satellite unit no longer functioned. No lights - just dead. Swapped power supplies to verify it was the router then contacted support and got an RMA. Despite the unit being 3 months old they do not 'swap them' out. You have to send the unit in, they will then verify that it does not work, and then they will send out another unit... Once they received it and verified the issue they did send me an email indicating that they will be sending a replacement. Two weeks later and I have no further status or replacement information. This is my first foray with ASUS as I usually run Netgear Nighthawks but the RMA process alone is reason enough to stay away.

Router is fine. The hardware is actually good. The software is mediocre. The ASUS app barely does anything useful. Like old fashion routers at least All configuration must be done over the wired network. But you also are required (or at least there is no obvious way around it) to setup an account to access the router. The firmware has some issues with some legacy devices but the truly most awful thing is support and ASUS policies. Between the requirement to create an account, the constant request for information if you call support (They don’t even use it, you have to provide everything every time you call), and the useless support service, ASUS, as a whole seems like a hard pass unless you have a simple setup and you never had to call them. So again, excellent hardware, the software/firmware is meh, and their support is just terrible.

Absolute worst router I have ever purchased. Hardware failure/issues after less than a year. 3 months dealing with ASUS attempting to get a replacement, and for 3 months they claim they have no replacements available, despite having no shortage of brand new ones to sell on their online store. After 2 months of getting nowhere, I complained to the Better Business Bureau, to which they also played games, trying to trick me into accepting their response, with no intent to actually replace the product. After 1 month with BBB, they finally respond that they'll replace it. I accepted the response, and then they never contacted me, and never responded to my email. If you buy from ASUS, and you happen to get one of their defective products, just know that your warranty means nothing. Before I involved the BBB, I went through 2 months of phone support, calling every 2 weeks, as instructed, and I emailed the CEO office, which went absolutely nowhere. I looked through my phone logs, and I've spent several hours on the phone, just to check if there is stock every 2 weeks. I tried to be patient, but waiting months, with a defective router, I cannot wait any longer, and thats exactly what they wanted, me to give up, so they didnt have to replace it. Dishonest company.

Constant drop outs. This thing was so bad. I was hoping to be able to have more configurable security, but even those settings were not working properly. Regarding the dropouts, it is device by device with no rhyme or reason. I researched settings and found out that ASUS is known for this dropout problem. This is getting returned less than a week after I got it.

Was thrilled to purchase two of the AX86 routers to an AIMesh network. Geek Squad did a great job and I was getting 350mb down on 400mb cable service. Decided to upgrade to comcast 1gb service. Once connected was only getting 350 download off 1gb service on the node (700 at modem). Called ASUS support and that's where the mess started. Tech recommended a number of changes and I went from 350mb download speed to 2 mb. Yes, you read that correct 2 mb. Tech couldnt reverse the mess he created he decided to reset to default and start again. He eventaully just gave up. Said another tech would set up ticket and help me resolve. Of course, they have emailed me nothing

If you need a stable connection, don't buy this. I can't speak for all Asus routers though I've seen enough from this one to make this my first and last. I did read other well-written reviews saying this router loses its ethernet/wireless connection periodically but gave it a shot. Like clockwork - 3 times a workday, each time it would not come back for an average of 5 minutes despite reboots. I said to myself this can't be happening and reconnected the Xfinity router and not one drop since, a week and counting. Good riddance Asus.

One of the worst routers I've used. The speeds are way slower than they should be, and only seem to get slower with every firmware update. ASUS tech support is a joke. Literally told me to run multiple speed tests at the same time on all of my devices, to increase wifi speeds. Add to this the length of time it takes for ASUS support to respond and it's now too late to return the router for a better brand I would have been better off using the free router my ISP provides since the wifi speeds are the same

Nothing but problems since hooking this up. Nearly impossible to keep the wifi networks visible long enough to connect, and even then sometimes will not connect. Drops connections repeatedly. WPA3 which is supposed to be more secure is a nightmare to implement on this device. When using WPA2, some devices see it as an open network and will not connect because it needs a password (tried manually adding the network with password too). Have loved Asus routers for the longest time but will be shopping around for other brands after this experience.

Difficult to set up, 2.4 G still won't connect to my printer, drops devices like crazy and can't reconnect to them. Firesticks can't connect to it, I spent a half hour on the phone with support and they have to escalate the case...great by the time they get back to me I probably will have returned it. Unstable wifi. It randomly shuts off the wifi signal on the 2.4 and 5ghz networks. When the 2.4 is connected it won't send an internet signal through it. Works fine hardwired.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
