Generally runs quiet, it's fast, and solid!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start this off, for the gaming folks curious as to how it performs, I ran the 3D Mark Time Spy test the day I purchased it, with Turbo mode enabled: Overall score - 6131 Graphics score - 6303 CPU score - 5314 Purchased a 16gb stick of Crucial RAM, installed it and ran the test again. Overall score - 6444 Graphics score - 6366 CPU score - 6926 All that to say, adding that extra stick makes a sizeable difference. The bottom of the laptop all uses Philips head screws, which is nice, and they weren't torqued in there, came out easily. Then you need to apply a little bit of force to pry off the panel, though nothing too difficult. RAM slot I've indicated in the attached pictures, is under a black soft cover, and there's also a slot to add another NVMe SSD if you feel so inclined. Just know though, that the 16gb stick it comes with, is soldered to the board, so the best you can do is pair it with another 16gb stick. Though it runs buttery smooth with 32gb, so no worries there. This is one of the quietest laptops I've ever used, when I'm not gaming. When just using it for general tasks, such as browsing, watching movies, listening to music, and so on, the fans are hardly ever heard unless you're in the quietest of environments, and even then it's barely noticeable. When gaming of course, the fans spool up and it gets pretty loud, though that should be expected, given the thinness of the laptop, combined with all the power it has, no biggie to me. Something that is a bonus, that is not mentioned in the description on here, is that it comes with a built in DAC, being a Sabre ESS branded one. For an audiophile like myself, that's a huge plus, and paired with either my Astro A50 or Audio Technica M50x cans, music and movies sound terrific on this thing. Screen wise, I don't have the greatest eye for color gamut, though to me it looks as it should, and the GameVisual program allows you to change the color profile, of which there are 7 different ones to choose from. They are Racing, Scenery, RTS/RPG, FPS, Cinema, EyeCare and Vivid. The screen is Pantone validated, though unless it's factory calibrated, I've read that it doesn't necessarily mean you're getting the best color gamut. The built in Armoury Crate program lets you change the power profiles, and I like how detailed the info is, to include the fan speed and decibel output, along with temps of the CPU and GPU. I typically use the Performance mode, which is great that even on that, it still runs pretty quiet outside of gaming. There is a Turbo mode for full on performance, though expect the fans to be going full speed pretty often. Also allows you to change the color profile of the keyboard. The keyboard does have a per key color lighting option, though note you need to download the Aura Creator app from the Microsoft Store, as the Armoury Crate will only let you change the color of all the keys at once. Both allow you to change the type of lighting, as far as having it fade/flow some type of way. The Aura Creator adds some types that the other doesn't have. It was on sale for $1549 when I bought it, and for that price, compared to what else Best Buy has around that point, I felt there wasn't a better option without spending more. The metal casing, the slim profile, and the soft, rubbery feel of the keyboard area all added to the selling points for me. Overall has a solid feel, no flex to the screen that I've noticed, and I lucked out in that my screen has absolutely no backlight bleeding, which for a laptop seems pretty rare. Also added a pic showing how slim this laptop is, as it sits on my cooler. This is actually thinner than even the HP Spectre models of comparable size, which is amazing, given the hardware it has.

great gaming laptop for the price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After much research on various gaming laptops around this price range I made the decision to go with this one. I'm glad I did. Started up sims 4 on it and it runs amazing as well as reckoning which I've been playing at the highest settings. everything is smooth the fans however do get a bit loud but it is a laptop which is to be expected... and I think I'll take loud fans over having it overheat. I did purchase a cooling pad for it just to ensure it wouldn't over heat. without it it gets a little warm but not really hot. with it it stays a decent temperature. So far really enjoying it and the customizable keyboard.

Great performance, loud
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I am super super pleased with this laptop and it’s giving me everything I need and want from it. I wanted something that could play pretty, casual games without lagging/slowing down, had sufficient storage for Adobe Creative Cloud and my casual photography hobby, had the ability to easily hook up to another monitor/TV screen when I need more screen space, and had a nice appearance. This fits that bit very nicely. The RGB keyboard is a neat feature. The appearance of the laptop itself is super nice, it doesn’t look like a “gaming” laptop. I love the different “performance/battery” settings so I can choose if I want performance mode, quiet mode, or a balance. That said, this laptop does have a couple draw backs to keep in mind that might be deal breakers for some. There is absolutely no webcam in this laptop. So it’s not good for video chatting, streaming, Zoom classrooms/meetings without needing an external webcam. That’s not what I need this laptop for so it’s a non issue for me. Also from the review title - it is a very loud laptop. Unless you have the performance/battery mode set on “silent,” which prioritizes noise reduction over everything else, the cooling fans are just so loud. (Forget about hearing audio through the laptop speakers when you have the mode on “Turbo.”) I usually have headphones in, so it’s fine for me, but the noise does bother other people in the room if they are trying to do/watch something else. I did know this was an issue based on reading previous reviews, but honestly I was not prepared for the noise. It’s very loud. Luckily there is the “silent” mode to use when I need it, but the temperature of the laptop is a bit higher when running on silent mode. Lastly, just a little bit picky, but the keyboard lighting is difficult to customize. You have to download another app and it’s not user friendly.

||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Runs any game you want smoothly. It looks great and feels great. It is thin and light. My only complaint is the battery. Even when I’m not doing anything demanding it seems to lack in that department. It also gets very hot so you’ll want or pick up some sort of cooling mat.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nvidia graphics works like a charm. I have had Nvidia cards before, expected nothing but the best, was not disappointed. Fallout 4 plays flawlessly, have had no problems while playing at least 8 to 12 hours a day, every day. The only issue I have is taking screen shots while playing the game. It says screenshot saved, but can not find them anywhere on the pc. Other than that, extremely happy with the computer and would highly recommend it and Best Buy. Thank you

Their a great company and are strictly for the gamers and their customers budget. You gotta Love that. They make their own motherboards which are the best on market. The company started when employees from Acer left and made Asus. Their Labtops are built by magical Elfs who putt magic in every inch With the RGB OUTSIDE ABD INSIDE THE Labtop. Aluminum Chasis for the Rough Rage Days. I was in no rush to buy either. I was going to wait for 10th gen Cooper Lake CPUs to drop like the Asus M15. But with less storage. The Labtop is super fast as is. I have upgraded it to another Crucial 16Gb Ram DDR4.AND INSTALLED A FireCuda 510 1tb. M.2 SSD Internal. Great Computer, One Major Flaw
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop for my 13 year old son who is distance learning AND taking a special course learning things like 3D modeling, sound engineering, game coding, and more. So it was important to choose a gaming laptop that had all the right specs for these programs-- plus, something compatible with the Link cable for Oculus Quest. In that regard, this computer works. It also has a very nice wow factor from unboxing to powering on. The keyboard lights up rainbow and that wins my vote for appearance. Overall, it is a great computer. However, it was on the second day of setting it up that I discovered it doesn't include a webcam. When researching, I didn't think to check that in specs because I was focusing on things like processor and graphics card, etc. To be blunt, I wouldn't be so disappointed if it were a cheap Chromebook but it's a $1500 laptop (with tax) and I just can't believe I had to spend another $80 on a webcam for it (plus, 3 hours tracking down any store that actually had any webcams in stock, but I digress.) For you, this might not be a dealbreaker. As I said, it's a great computer and you can always spend the extra money for a webcam if you need one for Zoom or whatever. Still, I'm only giving it a 3 star because when you spend that much on a computer, it should have a webcam!

The Review
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.8 months in and I can say it surprises me. I have this connected external monitor and other peripheral devices so my hands never lay on the laptop itself, this is where I can see people start to - stars because of the intense heat that radiates through the plastic, but as for me even with never noticing it, it has held up with countless hours of Call of Duty War Zone. The graphics are all on ultra or whatever the highest settings are, I honestly do not have any complaints with this laptop, I plan on thermal compounding it each year just to make sure it doesn’t fry from the intense heat.

||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the notebook, and also used it as a "desktop" on two adapted coolers, as the temperature where I live is high. The SSD is not so fast, around 1700/ms/s, so I changed it for a 3500mb/s and added another equal in the empty slot, getting 2tb of ssd. I also added a 16Gb clip, totaling 32Gb of ram. I exchanged the thermal paste for a high-performance one (Gelid), and the result pleased me a lot. I liked the final result, and today I have the new one, GU503 2021 and soon I will write about it too.

Premium gaming at a price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this on sale for 1599. It was admittedly a bit steep even at that however, I originally purchased the Ryzen 7 gtx 1660 ti version and was disappointed. The extra money does get you some reasonable improvements. The 9th gen processor does have the hardware fix for the latest vulnerabilities for specter (and related threats). If security is a concern, this or an AMD chip is your best bet. Wifi is much improved with an actual intel chip on this model vs the Ryzen one. The screen is 144hz, color calibrated, and looks excellent and gameplay is fluid. The keyboard is full RGB. The effects are nice, I typically just play with red keys. There isn't any bloatware on the machine, just Asus's applications/utilities for the functions of the laptop. I use throttlestop to undervolt. These 9th gen chips are a bit more touchy in this case. The 8th gens you could undervolt to 145mv for the core and cache. This new chip I was lucky to get stability between 80-100mv. It does lower the temps 10-15c if you also set the max frequency to 3.5/3.6Ghz when all cores are being used. I averaged around 78-80c gaming at full load vs 94c. I'll jump right into cooling since that covers most of it. The heat this laptop generates is primarily by the CPU. Any work you can do to lower temps of just the CPU will reduce your entire system temp. For instance, even with the RTX 2060 maxed out graphically, if I turn off turbo for the CPU, letting it run at the stock 2.6Ghz, you're lucky if you see more than 70c gaming. Without turbo enabled certainly say goodbye to your extra fps. The fans are somewhat loud when gaming as expected. Even while not gaming the fans may still be spooled up to cool the CPU. You can put the laptop on a silent setting but unfortunately, if youre looking for quiet. . . a thin and light gaming laptop is NOT the answer. You have to make the compromise. With that being said, even if you don't mess with voltage and just use this stock, the cooling from the laptop is sufficient keeping you below max temps so the CPU wont throttle significantly. Playing BF5 at 100% cpu and ultra graphics will still put you at 90-94c . . . better than 99c. Asus did make one stupid move (as mentioned by another) by putting 16GB of single channel soldered memory on this. You have to CPU-Z it to get the right timings if you want to purchase an added 70 bucks to your already expensive laptop for maximum performance. Games like BFV will only run at 40-60fps on single channel memory. Once you add a stick it will bump to 70-80fps typically so keep that in mind. The memory speed is 2666 with a CAS of 19 (which is slow considering you can get as low as 15). I'm sure this was cost saving but, really annoying considering its msrp is $1,900. Despite the slow ram, you are not going to notice anything other than an improvement in FPS in games when you add a stick for dual channel. If you have RGB off on the keyboard it has a nice professional look. The outside does have a red lit ROG symbol, I don't know that you can turn it off. The laptop also makes sound when you turn it on and the keys simulate a red wave. You can turn off the sound if you wish as well. I didn't check the nvme SSD speeds. I can only hope its an m.2 pci x 4 slot for max speeds but, I personally don't know and haven't checked. The 1TB drive is very nice otherwise and while it isn't the fastest compared to a samsung drive, its still quick with a good amount of storage. The laptop does get warm with use. It isn't terrible but I do feel that its warmer than anything else in general. The power brick is a good size but does get pretty hot even without gaming. Overall the performance is excellent across the board. Its worth adding the stick of memory even though it should have been setup differently from ASUS. You get the full gaming experience and while you can get a Lenovo or Dell cheaper with the same specs (and dual channel memory) you will have to wait between 2-5 weeks depending. I can say the extra money spent here is worth it. Its a great product. This processor plays the division 2 without issue. I average around 55fps on max settings. BFV is between 48-60fps. Rocket League is around 140 fps. Ace Combat 7 is around 100 fps average. This is with a max clock of 3.6Ghz still on Single Channel Memory. You will see FPS improvements of 10fps+ in most cases. I ordered mine and wont get it for a few days so I can't do more than provide a reasonable guesstimate. If you catch this on sale and you're comparing to the Ryzen GTX 1660 ti model, this will net you the full gaming experience and better support across games. You will have the option for Ray Tracing as more games will be taking advantage of it and be more secure with the 9th gen intel chip. This laptop does everything as advertised, has a good build quality, excellent performance, adequate cooling, and falls short by only a stick of ram. Save a couple hundred bucks in advance to make this your purchase (on sale). You'll be happy you did. At 1599 I'd give this 4.5 stars. At anything more Its between 3.5 and 4 stars given that 1599 is already a bit steep.

Simply awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been looking around for laptops in this price range and decided on getting this one. So far, it has been extremely worth it. The build quality is great. It's sturdy, thin, pretty lightweight and I personally enjoy the ROG logo on the front of the lid which emits a feint red light when the laptop is in use. It's RGB keyboard is great and you can customize its color effects in the "Armoury Crate" software that comes pre-installed onto the machine. You can also install the Aura Creator app from Windows Store to set up more advanced lighting effects. It's screen supports various different color modes (by either pressing FN + V or going into GameVisual in Armoury Crate) so your eyes won't hurt during long-time use. Its speakers really surprised me, it's audio quality is phenomenal despite how thin the machine is. CPU and GPU work great. I do a lot of 3D modelling and rendering in Adobe software; they do the job just fine. It also comes with a USB-C port which is great for my Oculus Quest when using VR. -- Some minor downsides though, but doesn't really affect my usage of this at all; - No webcam. I personally don't mind that it doesn't have one since I really don't have a need for one right now. - Loud fans (when gaming). However what's nice is that you can toggle the fan speeds at the cost of performance. But if I'm gaming on this with it's settings set to maximum performance, I'm probably using headphones. When I'm not gaming - Weird audio jack issues. For some reason I had a lot of issues getting this thing to detect my headphones properly. The audio still comes from the laptop after plugging in my headphones. After an hour of tinkering with drivers and doing research I have a temporary fix where you have to go to the "Realtek Audio Console" app, go to "Device advanced settings" and under "Connector Retasking" switching to the other option in the drop-down under "ANALOG". I don't know why it works, but it does. I have to do this every time I re-plug my headphones. - Lack of a numpad. I've always been used to a number pad, especially when 3D modeling, but the lack of one on this machine has led me to modify some hotkeys on specific software to get things working again. I don't mind the change, but it will take a bit of time to get used to it. - This machine gets WARM. You can feel how warm it is mainly on its speakers above the keyboard and often on the keys themselves. Overall, great machine; a lot of fun, mostly worth its price, and would definitely recommend.

Excellent gaming laptop for the price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop when it is on sale for 1549 which makes it one of the best value gaming laptops. I highly recommend the laptop if you can find it on sale. I wouldn't recommend this laptop at MSRP which is 1849 because competitors like MSI GS65 and Razer Blade offer better values. However, I do like the design of the Asus GU502. It is a personal preference but I just want to throw it out there. I have this laptop for a week and was able to test out a few games. Shadow of the tomb raider, it does run hot and throttle due to power limit. At max setting, the game runs in the low 50 fps. The cpu temp is in the low 90s while the gpu temp is in the high 70s. The cpu was clocking at 3900 Mhz and gpu was clocking at 1300 Mhz due to power throttling. This laptop has the full RTX 2060, not the max-q version. CS global offensive, the game runs in the low 100s. I dont quite remember the temp but it wasnt that hot compared to shadow of the tomb raider. One thing I want to point out is that the gpu was clocking at 1800 Mhz instead of 1300 Mhz like in shadow of the tomb raider. For some reasons, I cant get the USB type c to charge the laptop. Will contact asus for help. The battery life does not live up to the advertisement of 8 hrs battery life mobilemark. I get around 4 -5 hrs max with silent mode. Pros: Good specs (I7 9th gen and RTX 2060) Solid build Nice keyboard (individual key RGB) Nice screen (IPS level and 144 hz) Good speakers Big drive (1TB intel optane H10) Cons: Finger print magnet on the exterior brush finish Rough track pad surface (not glass) No thunderbolt, no webcam, no SD card reader Overall, I am happy with the purchase for the price. I would not recommend this laptop at full price as it lacks in some areas.

Good for the sale price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 8 years I finally decided to upgrade my laptop. The ole 860m isn't helping much these days. Seen this one on sale for 1,200. I would have much rather preferred the AMD version but I settled on this one. 2060 with an i7 and the 16gb ram. After only having it a few days I found a few minor issues. Battery life isn't anywhere near 6hrs. I get about 2hs depending on the game and graphics settings. Though I did not buy this laptop for the battery life. The second issues is that fan noise. I understand with the laptop being this thin takes a little more to cool down given the fact that you can't fit larger fans in there. It's also does run warm. While running CoD Modern Warfare with recommend setting and ray tracing. The temperature stays at about 80 degrees Celsius consistently. Nevertheless for a newer gen Intel processor RTX 2060 16GB of RAM and a 1tb SSD overall I think it was a good buy. Also the RGB keyboard and a stunning design are a bonus! ROG for life!!

Fantastic gaming PC
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the GU502GV after a friend recommended the product to me. The RTX 2060 graphics card works amazingly with the 16GB of ram and 1 TB SSD, but the small frame does produce a stunning amount of heat, so purchase a laptop stand with built in fans (on amazon for 20 bucks). This computer runs all games at high/ultra settings getting around 60FPS, but lowering the settings, you will easily get more. The 144Hz screen is perfect for intense gaming and the feel and build of the computer is solid. For the price, it is a little expensive but when on sale, it’ll be around 1700 (right after tax/warranty) which is not too bad. If price is an issue however, getting the RTX 1660 will be just as good, since you’ll be saving a few hundred bucks. I would give this computer 5/5 stars and I would highly recommend it to a friend. The quality of the product is great and it feels solid, not cheap or underdone. The only bad thing about the unit is the price (and the heat it produces), but again, it’s not bad when it’s on sale. but if price is an issue, look at the 1660s, it’ll save a few hundred dollars.

Great laptop
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided I needed a new laptop when my last laptop with a dual core processor I had for a few years could not do many tasks that I wanted to do. I decided to get this laptop because it has exactly everything I wanted in terms of the specs Pros: Plenty of RAM (16 GB) Fast 1 TB storage Great graphics card Powerful Intel Core i7 processor Laptop is very fast Cons: Trackpad placement is odd for me and requires getting used to. It gets annoying when I use my controller and I accidentally move my mouse cursor when I have my hand over it, requiring me to press a button that disables it (on the keyboard) which is also annoying because I have to turn it back on when I want to quickly look at something else The monitor does not go very far back. Due to the laptop being thin, it builds up more heat, requiring the fans to work harder and they can get loud Overall, this is a great laptop and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a gaming laptop.

Great for gaming but...
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So as the title says this laptop kills pretty much every game you throw at it with great settings and good fps, but the battery life is not the best with my testing getting about 4 hours with about 10% left of just normal browsing. thermals because everyone wants to know, idle cpu is about 40-45c gpu is the same. While heavy gaming (turbo fan which is quite loud but can still hear the speakers just fine) cpu is 75-80c and gpu hits 60-70c. Also would suggest a laptop fan pad as this will help and I have seen lower temps. If all your looking for is a gaming machine on the go this is it, fast, great display, amazing keyboard ( no noticeable hot spots under keys), enough GPU to play every game out to date, also looks very good and doesn't have that gaming laptop look that has turned me away from many others.

It can get very greasy with fingerprints though. So, even though I was in love with this machine I returned it and here's why: - Battery life sucks (around 4h if browsing the web). That was the only reason I returned it but here are some more cons: - No webcam. - Heavy charger. - No SD port. - Can get hot when gaming Pros: - The matte screen is just beautiful. - It can run every game on ultra. - I has a lot of horse power. - Feels industructible.

Excellent quality and performance
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't usually write reviews but I feel compelled as my journey to find the right laptop has been a long one. I hope my experience and review can help others. I will start by saying, it's a great laptop. If you purchase it, I don't think you'll have any regrets - aside from the amount of money you just spent on it. My situation: I wanted to ditch my iMac 5K for a laptop that was capable of smoothly editing 4K footage. I'm not made of money, and simply can't justify having an iMac and an expensive laptop. Plus I'm kind of big on the whole less-is-more kind of thing. I wanted a laptop for when I travel and also, because I enjoy the convenience and luxury of having a laptop. Performance: The ASUS ROG GU502GV has not disappointed. I've only had it for a couple days, but I've done 4K tests using Premiere Pro and I'm very impressed. Scrubbing through a 4K timeline with 4K footage is (almost) buttery smooth at full resolution. That's impressive for any computer, let alone a laptop. Most of us are fine editing in 1/2 resolution or even editing 4K footage in a 1080p timeline. This laptop should breeze right through that. Although I have not done any heavy editing yet, I haven't noticed the fans coming on during the editing I have done. The fans do come on at kind of random times while doing other tasks but seem to only stay on for a few seconds. Please do note, they are loud. Think of the way your vacuum cleaner sounds. The look and feel: Simply put, it looks and feels great. I was intrigued by gaming laptops because of their specs but turned off by their design. This laptop is the best of both worlds. It's like a classy gaming laptop. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on. The inside is a matte black which feels great. You'll notice fingerprints on the track pad and surrounding areas which is no big deal to me as I wipe my laptop pretty regularly. Overall, fantastic laptop. I have no complaints, other than the price. Then again, maybe I'm just cheap.
