Asus' Best Ultra Light/Thin to Date
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Crazy good build quality and drop dead gorgeous touchscreen in 3K Resolution OLED. Not ready to get rid of X86 just yet and this laptop is decently power efficient and has a huge battery. Charging every other day for now. Laptop is extremely thin but still manages to include all of the important ports and charges via USB-C. Large trackpad is extremely responsive and a pleasure to use. 24 GB of RAM should be good for a while for this use case and the 1TB SSD is fast enough and plenty of storage. Very happy with the laptop, just wish it was maybe slightly more affordable. Barely runs hot when in balanced mode and performance is not impacted one bit.

Always incredible!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus zenbook is a amazing purchase for my investment! And it’s worth purchasing if you ordered online or in store when it’s on sale/discounted. You get a 16 inch Oled display which is gorgeous, plus a smart camera that features windows hello and have the laptop sign out when you walk away. The keyboard have good travel and it’s nice and quiet and it’s backlit, which is nice. 2 USB-C ports are great, but I want to have one of each side for easy charging and connectivity. A HDMI 2.1 port, headphone jack and SD card reader are handy for content creators or multitasking. There’s one USB-A port, which is quite disappointing if you need another for a flash drive, etc. The chip , which is AMD Ai 365 is blazing fast, not as fast as the HX370, but gets the job done. 10 core cpu and integrated Radeon graphics are amazing for all kinds of work. Thermals are good, but if you’re in full load, you will encounter some heat. Overall, it’s a worth purchase if the price goes down. And I highly recommend to this device to anyone and Black Friday is around the corner, so get one when it’s starting to go on sale! PS, copilot plus features will be coming to this laptop so stay tuned for my updated review.

Hit or miss…
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a hit or miss… the first one i got kept crashing when connected to an external monitor which got really annoying. The second one i got is fine so far. Other than that it’s a great laptop. The screen is amazing and it seems to be very fast. Best feature is definitely how thin it is. Very portable for 16 inch so if that’s what u want it’s perfect. Battery life with mild use is about 12 hrs. It can get hot especially if ur using it while charging. Also really nice build quality and looks amazing.

Impressive, But Held Back by Battery
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The design and display are stunning, and the processing power is impressive. However, Windows 11 feels too buggy for my liking. As it’s marketed as a productivity laptop, most of the time spent on it is on battery, making it disappointing to see a noticeable dip in performance and display quality every time I unplug it.

Great product with one potent issue.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first it was a really problematic laptop due to driver issues. Elegant design backed up by ample performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.**** Summary **** The 2024 Asus Zenbook S 16 is a striking and handsome 16" laptop that is light, ergonomic, and a pleasure to use on a daily basis. Despite its thinness, it packs a bright and crisp OLED display, spacious keyboard, a huge trackpad, and performant components that makes it speedy and lag-free, perfect for multitasking. The battery life is good, the speakers sound great, and its thin and light design makes it an ideal computer. I love it! _____ *Pros: -Clean, stylish, and elegant design. -Great performance from the AMD Ryzen AI 9 CPU, 24GB of DDR5 memory, and speedy NVME hard drive. -Thin and light. -Good battery life. -Big, smooth, and responsive Microsoft Precision touchpad. -The MyAsus app is very helpful and easy to use. _____ *Cons: -None **** Design & Build Quality **** The 2024 Asus Zenbook S 16 is one good-looking laptop. I have the Scandinavian White model with the Ceraluminium lid, and the device looks very stylish, elegant, and premium. The lid has a matte feel, and it looks like concrete. The display can be raised with one finger, and it goes up without any wobbling or stability issues. The 3K OLED display is bright, crisp, and evenly lit, and it makes colors pop and the blacks are truly black, making it a pleasure to watch movies and music videos on. The screen can achieve up to 500 nits brightness, and supports a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering an awesome multimedia experience. The 6-speaker system is well-tuned, and the audio is clean, punchy, and has a great soundstage. It has probably the best-sounding speaker system on a laptop. The keyboard is spacious and the keys are well laid-out, making it easy to type fast. I do wish the key travel (1.1mm) has more padding for a softer experience, but it's not bad. It feels a bit stiff initially but it didn't take long for me to get used to it. The white LED backlighting on a white keyboard works better than it sounds since the light is bright and the letter cutout is relatively large. The Microsoft Precision touchpad is HUGE, and I love it. It feels so smooth when gliding my fingertip across it, and it's also very responsive. I'm very appreciative to Asus for providing many useful ports on such a thin and light laptop. On the left side, you have one HDMI port, two 40Gbps Thunderbolt ports, and an audio jack. On the right side, you have one 10Gbps USB-A port and a SD card reader. That's enough ports for me to not resort to using a dongle which is always annoying. The rest of the technology is great and reliable as well, such as Wi-Fi 7 (MediaTek MT7925) and Bluetooth 5.4. This is my third Asus laptop, and it's the best one yet. I love the design, the meticulous attention to detail, and great build materials and build quality. **** Hardware & Performance **** Not surprisingly, the Zenbook S 16 is quite the performer, thanks to the 10-core, 20-thread Ryzen AI 9 365 processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, and 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVME drive from Samsung (model MZVL81T0HELB-00BTW). 952GB of storage space was accessible and ready for use out-of-the box, and the laptop, thankfully, didn't come with too many third-party apps pre-installed. Multi-tasking on the Zenbook S 16 has been a delight. You want to run Chrome with more than 30 tabs open? Check. Stream music videos in the background while encoding that 4K action cam or drone footage? No problem. Play some 3D games or run emulators? No sweat. The Zenbook S 16 can do all of the above without breaking a sweat and without having to resort to its highest fan-profile mode, which is called Full-speed mode inside the MyAsus app. The other available modes are the Performance mode, Standard mode, and Whisper mode. For my purposes, I was content with the Performance mode, which gives me the right dose of performance without excessive fan noise. The battery will drain a bit faster but the trade-off is worth it to me since I demand speedy responsiveness and snappy performance from my devices. My wife has been using the Zenbook S 16 as her daily driver, and she loves it! Her previous device was the 16" Asus VivoBook M1603QA, which has an AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS processor with 8 cores, 12GB of DDR4 memory, and a 512GB PCIe 3.0 NVME drive. She says the performance difference was very noticeable which is backed up by the Geekbench 6 score comparison - the VivoBook scored 1818 for single-core and 6702 for multi-core, while the Zenbook S 16 scored 2789 and 12,815, respectively. With the Zenbook S 16, Asus has put together a well-balanced and performant machine that runs really fast and well without any overheating or fan noise issues, all in a stylish, thin, and light package. **** Any issues? **** I tried to find some faults with the Zenbook S 16, but I really couldn't find any. Everything is good - the design, build materials and quality, the display, the keyboard and trackpad, the gorgeous screen and awesome speakers, fast and stable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. I feel very confident that 99% of the people who purchase this laptop will be very happy and satisfied. My wife likes it so much, she took it from me and made it her daily driver! :) **** Is it worth the coin? **** Yes! I say that because you do get many fancy features for the money, such as the outstanding 120Hz 3K OLED screen, unique and stylish design in a thin and light package, great performance from the Ryzen AI 9 CPU, DDR5 memory, and PCIe 4.0 NVME drive, and long uptime from the 78WHr battery. After spending this amount of money, you would want a device that brings delight and a frustration-free experience every time you sit down in front of your computer. And the Zenbook S 16 delivers exactly that type of experience. It's a 5-Star Win.

Looks great, but huge flaws
|Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To preface, the laptop looks great. Its very lightweight, and has solid battery life. I can easily get around 6-12 hours in a school day light browsing and working with virtual machines. It's a large margin depending on my workload for the day, but to offset that it impressively only requires a 65w charger which most decent power banks will handle allowing for a portable, powerful laptop with a decent enough iGPU for light gaming in a pinch. Now for the bad, the laptop only supports a 1TB NVMe. ASUS support will tell you otherwise and say a 2TB will work, but I personally have tried a 990 Pro 4TB NVMe, a 990 Pro 2TB, a 980 2TB Crucial, and a 980 Pro 1TB. The only one that would work is the 980 Pro 1TB. It would outright fail for larger storage using ASUS Cloud Recovery and cloning the partitions or performing a fresh install of Windows 11 and manually importing the drivers from the original drive's System32/driverstore folder would inevitably have the laptop randomly bluescreening no matter the software used so the device does not support expandable storage whatsoever aside from an SD card. In addition, the paint is very fragile. Just sliding it in and out of my Nomatic backpack's laptop compartment, the felt has stained the sides of the laptop shown in the photos. I was able to remove some of it, but it is still very noticeable. Honestly, it's a shame because I feel like these are huge flaws when you're looking at laptops in this price range there are so many options available to you. The laptop has 24GB RAM, so it's clearly meant to be a light workstation laptop, but it caps you at 1TB storage. I have no clue what ASUS is thinking, they definitely need a BIOS update or revise the model if it's a hardware limitation. Poor design philosophy if its intentional.

Posted .Dear Gman,
Thank you for your feedback.
We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are having issues with the laptop. The random black screen is typical, this occurs when updates are being applied in the System Registry. Regarding issues not being able to install default applications and software from the Microsoft Store. To install these applications successfully, Windows needs to be up to date. Additionally, check if this laptop has access to a working and stable internet service to update Windows and install Microsoft applications. If you need further assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Close, but just misses the mark in significant way
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll get the Pros out of the first. PROS: Beautiful 16"/120hz/ 2.8k display (3k with Asus rounding up). One of the nicest OLED panels I've seen on a laptop without the dreaded screen-door effect found on some touch panels. Build Quality: All aluminum chassis that uses a special heat treatment to create a cermic like durable finish on the lid cheekily called Ceraluminum. Sound: Audio quality is top notch after tweaking in the Dolby Atmos app by setting it to Dynamic. This will let DA use the proper EQ for the source material and make for a great listening experience. Keyboard/Trackpad: Low travel chicklet style keyboard makes for a satisfying typing experience. The touchpad is massive offering great gesture recognition as well as some additional functionality (also a CON). (Left edge) Can be used for raising and lowering the volume. (Top Edge) Let's you scroll through videos (Right side) Can adjust screen brightness Battery Life: In normal usage (Youtube/Google Docs/Dozens of tabs open) I was able to get around 12 hours of usage while still having aboit 15% left before throwing it back on the charger. Now lets get to the cons of which there are a few and for some they may be deal breakers. CONS: Display: While a truly stunning and performing it uses PWM (flickering the backlight) at a frequency of 480hz. This helps for smoother motion on the display, but at around 30% brightness is was slightly noticeable. Keep in mind that not everyone is susceptible to seeing flicker and I'm usually not, but for some reason it was apparent. Now seldom lower the backlight that low, but the wife was proofreading a project I'm working on and she lowered it and mentioned it. Trackpad: I simply mention this because the additional gesture features mentioned in the PROS come with CONS as well. In practice their usage can be a little hit or miss with their precision. Their inclusion can cause issues with normal usage if you accidentally brush across the area the backlight or volume may adjust irradicically. [This feature can be switched off in settings and you can simply use the function keys to adjust.] RAM: While the base model with the HX365 Zen 5 chip comes with 24, it is soldered therefore not upgradeable. For near every average consumer this will likely be enough for the foreseeable future, but for creatives it may be an issue down the line. Heat: This is the final and likely most significant if you use it on anything other than a desk. Even during normal useage the keyboard deck can get very warm to the touch and the bottom can get uncomfortable after a short time on your lap. I have troubleshot all these issues and updated every piece of software available to attempt to improve some of the trouble spots. AMD could easily optimize Zen 5 to be more efficient, but Asus's cooling solution may still not be able to handle it with such a thin and light chassis. I was so excited for the new AMD 9 Ai series laptops, but this is more of a reflection on Asus who in the past few years have had an issue with engineering. It may simply be a matter of style over substance and another manufacturer might pull both off.

Thin, beautiful, sexy and hot
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop build quality is very good. It is very slim for such powerful laptop. It is beautiful and sexy but run hotter than all other laptops I have had. It has all the ports I need except the ethernet port. The 65W power brick is also small and compact but the prongs do not fold back in. When boot up the first time, first windows update makes the laptop hot. Game install and playing game also makes it hot. When playing Fortnite, CPU temp goes to 88C and the bottom of the laptop measured 132F. The OLED touch screen is very beautiful and bright, bezel is pretty thin all around. The screen cannot open flat to 180 degrees. The keyboard is very nice to type on. Backlight is bright but the shift mode characters for the number row is pretty dim such as the @ sign and the $ sign. The touchpad is big and responsive, no complaint there. This laptop has the copilot key on the keyboard and as such it is very convenient, the key opens up the ChatGPT box where you can ask it to solve math problem, find answer, create a picture, summarize article or text etc. The sound produced by the bottom firing speakers is very good, clear and crisp, has minimum bass of course. Webcam is mounted at the center above screen and supports Windows Hello. There is a dedicated button on the keyboard to turn off the camera as well as a button for the mic. The WIFI is of version 7 and so the download speed is very fast, I got 687Mbps. This laptop is using a Samsung SSD, max read speed at 660MB/s and max write speed at 609MB/s. Note the speeds mentioned above are based on simple test so might not be accurate or the same as yours. The battery life is very good, casual usage will last a day. Hovering over the battery icon shows 76% and 11 hours in the pop up box.

A fantastic laptop with everything... but runs HOT
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Zenbook S 16 is a near perfect device, with one huge (hot) problem. The build quality on this device is very good, and the white finish is quite nice on it. The screen is fantastic (high refresh rate, good brightness, OLED contrast), the performance is snappy and the laptop should have no trouble keeping up for the next couple of years. Battery life is pretty good in normal use, and the laptop has good port selection. I also like the large trackpad as well. The one major flaw with this laptop is that it gets extremely hot to the touch when doing anything more than general use. Download a file? Run a game? This thing gets very, very hot to the touch on the underside between your lap. Just be mindful if you plan to do performance work that way. Outside of that, during general use it remains cool enough and the fans are fairly quiet. This is a great laptop for anyone who wants a premium experience, excellent build quality, and lots of features, as long as you can get over the heating up.

Slip profile
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Firstly the laptop came nicely packaged and protected which is a big concern today. Unboxing was straight forward and I was impressed with the beautiful packaging and the box felt higher end. Inside we have the laptop and the charger and what was really cool is the charger doesn’t require a charging brick so that’s a huge plus because I bought this for work and carry it inside my backpack that travels with me daily. Turning it on I was impressed with the backlighting on the keyboard and the beautiful screen that is much bigger than my previous laptops. Logging into windows was easy but it took awhile for data to transfer and I’m not sure if that was a windows issue or an asus issue. I’ve never bought a computer with this type of processor so I wasn’t really worried about it handling what I was going to throw at it which is basic everyday use. I need it for spreadsheets and word documents etc and usually I’ll have 5-6 internet tabs open for other various task. It handles no problem and the speakers are louder then other computers I’ve owned which is great because I listen to calls incoming to our retail stores and have issues with other laptops if my wife is cooking or the TV is on in the background. The 3k screen is beautiful. The only thing that I don’t like about this laptop is it gets very hot. That’s why only 4 stars. Then then that I’m very happy with this laptop and would recommend

Excellent Balance Between Size and Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Performance When you see a thin and light, you usually don’t think performance. You’re going to be surprised with the Zenbook S 16. AMD has dropped their new Ryzen AI 9 365 processor in the laptop. If all of that means nothing to you, I’ll add the benchmarks down below. It’s not by any stretch a top of the line, but you’ll find it breezes through normal multitasking. Currently switching back and forward between office and an edge browser with over 30 tabs open with no lag or delay. Gaming wasn’t bad. As long as you’re not trying to play high end games with top notch graphics, you’re probably fine. I played Tribes 3 Rivals on lowest settings and frames locked at 60 without any issues. I had a bit more trouble when trying to play New World, where frames barely made it to 30 FPS and that was without pulling mobs or fighting in wars where things can get really busy. If you’re a casual gamer playing lower demand games, you’re in great hands with this PC as it seems to do those well. Wi-Fi performance is great! I have a Wi-Fi 7 router so I can take full advantage of the wireless features. I get very fast consistent Wi-Fi speeds and it negotiates at the router at 2.8 and no issues hitting internet speed tests that max out my connection at 1gb full duplex. For reference, this is faster than most ethernet connections on older routers. Display The display on this PC is beautiful. It measures in at 2880 x 1800 which they call 3K. It’s OLED so you know you’re getting the best display on a laptop and it also refreshes at 120hz so it’s buttery smooth to use. If you wanted to add a cherry on top, it’s also a touch screen. It’s great for watching videos or looking at photos. It is a bit glossy and at only 500 nits, it might not be the best for outdoor use, which for the most part, is not my use case. Keyboard, Mouse, Sound, and Camera The keyboard is just fine. It isn’t satisfying or disappointing in one way or another. I do like that it’s spaced well, ASUS didn’t try to squeeze in a number pad or other keys that would force your fingers to be closer together. I do find myself typing just fine and about normal accuracy although the keys are a little spongy. The mouse is a bit unique compared to other laptops I’ve used. It doesn’t “feel” any different but it does have extra touch features beyond the typical swipe up with 3 or pinch to zoom. If you swipe up or down on the leftmost part of the trackpad you can control the volume up or down, and if you do the same on the right, you can control brightness. You don’t lose mouse functionality in these areas as long as it’s not your starting point. I think it would be neat to be able to customize these settings to do other tasks like keyboard brightness but the settings seem to be fixed. Laptop sound has gotten much better over the past few years. I’ve noticed ASUS has been putting focus here as well. They do well at getting loud without being distorted which is impressive in a thin and light. They’re down firing speakers coming out of the left and right sides of the chassis. Finally, the camera. It’s not good. It’s grainy and I’m not sure if it’s over processing or just bad but it doesn’t come through good at all. What I do like is windows hello. The IR sensor will use depth sensing facial recognition to log you into windows. Also, new to me, is ASUS’ AI sensing camera. Not only will it allow you to add background blur, eye tracking and framing, but also detects when your present at your laptop and will wake the display for windows hello login when you sit back down at your desk. This is a neat little time saver as during a work day you may be up and down at your desk. Design ASUS has always set themselves apart by playing around with laptop design to be unique and appealing. Everything is very well made, almost no flex in the keyboard or surrounding area. The ventilation has a very unique machined design with tiny vent holes that gives it a unique aesthetic. The lid has a unique modern design, which actually looks very professional. The exposed aluminum lines have almost a silver luminance to it, subtly catching the eye. Battery Life Battery life has been great. I’m on and off throughout the day, even while testing different features of the laptop, and only charge at night when I go to sleep. ASUS also boasts 60% battery in 49 minutes with fast charging. I didn’t measure this but I did notice even going from around 50% to 100% it was fast. I’m glad to see a larger focus is being placed on all day usage and less time tethered to the wall while still hammering out great performance. The one downside is you do get a bit of performance hit. While on battery I was getting nearly 200 points less on my multi-core score on Cinebench 2024, it would have been nice to see the same consistency when on battery as I got plugged in. Final Thoughts AMD has been shaking up the game for a few years now and they’re no different in their mobile chips. ASUS has been with them all the way integrating and using these high performance processors to push performance to the max. There’s a few call outs that make this PC just short of perfect. Palm rejection on the track pad needs to be better. Several times while typing up this review, I’ve had my cursor get lost in a paragraph and I ended up typing where I wasn’t supposed to. The other issue is the bottom gets pretty warm when pushing the processor. Not an issue for me as almost exclusively use on a desk or a cooling pad, but some may find it uncomfortable after longer sessions. I really enjoy this laptop for the power package it is. It’s fast, sleek, lightweight, sounds good, has smart features, but there’s still some room for improvement with the trackpad palm detection, camera, and cooling.
