Excellent Sound Quality, App Could Be Improved
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I migrated to this product from a Logitech Squeezebox Duet paired with a Peachtree Audio outboard DAC. My biggest apprehension prior to purchase was the many references to limitations in music library size on the BlueOS, whereas the Squeezebox has (presumably) no limit. As of late, there have been claims of people indexing over 100,000 tracks under the latest updates, so I took the plunge. There have been a couple of instances where I've needed to update the metadata for MP3 and FLAC files but on its own, the Node 2's indexing feature managed to locate over 80,000 tracks. As for the sound quality, it is fantastic! I am extremely impressed with the built-in DAC; as I am hearing increased dynamics, rhythm, a nicer presentation of vocals and a sweeter high end. The app might just take some getting used to but the way you navigate to store favorite albums and hop around in the program seems a bit clunky. Overall, though, I am very pleased and setup couldn't have been easier.

Very nice music streamer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sounds great and looks great. Initial setup is easy. My only issue is that some music files can hang up the music indexing routine. I spent a Saturday indexing 1 music folder at a time until I found the folder freezing up the Bluesound. I'm very happy with it.

Excellent HD streamer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this to stream my HD music. Unlike Sonos it is not limited 16 bit and 44khz. I passed on it last year as importing music and the software were no quite up to snuff. This year the software has improved and it automatically imports my Itunes library. Itunes the program will import 24 bit 96 0r 88 files in ALAC it just wont play them on Ipods. I have my library on a NAS drive connected to my router. I can acces my music through my laptop, my phone or my ipad without turning my computer on. This for those who like sound;if you just want to stream low res streaming sites or mp3's this is overkill

Extremely satisfied
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's very easy to navigate through the menu. I can get literally thousands of stations, which I couldn't get on my Sonos. It's Tidal-ready. The sound is fantastic. Would highly recommend.

Sounds Terrific
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Bluesound Node 2 is a replacement for a Squeezebox Duet. Both units are connected are connected to my receiver via TosLink. The Node 2 sounds significantly better than the Duet. When setting this device up I recommend the following to get the best results: 1) If you are using a dual or tri-band wireless router, have one band set to wireless N only and have as few as devices as possible connected to that band to minimize dropouts. Connect the Node 2 to that band. 2) When I began using the Node 2 I found the volume output to be very low compared to the Duet. To correct this, in Settings, Audio change from variable to fixed. This will result in similar volume output to the Duet.

Excellent
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried 3 setups for my KEFs Q900. Reciever Pioneer Elite SC LX5002. Liked it for movies, sucked for music. I exchanged it for the Rottel A12. Loved it for music but no conectivity at all and no muscle to drive the KEFs the way they where meant to be driven. And then I stumbled upon Crown amps, bought a 300 wpc amp and needed a preamp, all of them expensive and no streaming capabilities whatsoever. Enter Node2. Paired with Tidal, this thing will deliver studio quality via MQA or CD Quality depending on what's available, enough juice to feed my crown amp which offers great quality amplification. Result? Crisp, clear highs. A mid range with precense, even for music recorded in the 80s. Bass tight and never muddy. Ease of use? You bet. By far the easiest of all these streamers to operate. Worth the price? Every cent. My advice (since I spent 5 months looking for the right setup) is: Get this, get a pro audio amp and a good beefy pair of speakers. "Audophile" amps are just flashy and expensive, they'll get the job done, sure, but there's no need to spend 2k on one, save that cash and get a good set of speakers, bookshelf or towers. O did I mentioned I use this as my HT reciever? 2.1 system but it is still great for movies.

Top Notch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent Sound and Easy Set-Up. 24 bit files are terrific. My Node is accessing a music library of over 100K tracks and no problems have been encountered. A Peachtree Audio Nova 125 linked to KEF LS50 speakers make this an audiophile's dream system of exceptional value for the investment. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have experienced none of the disappointments they speak of. Is it worth the price, yes it is.

Bad firmware spoils good hardware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hooked this up and immediately had pleasing sound from Tidal. But as soon as I tried to index my local music files, the trouble started. Short version, they don’t know how to write software and it’s a killer. Long version: the indexer will fail without a useful message if it thinks a file is “corrupt.” This can be a file that iTunes plays, that has metadata; there are mysterious things their support team cannot explain that cause the indexer to quit. And if the indexer does not succcessfully parse every single one of your files, it cannot play a single one. I was told that I could rerun the indexer in a special mode and read the error log to find the last successful file, and the file after that in the file folders would be the problem. “Even with your 100,000 files, there should only be one to a few.” Wrong. I started removing files, then having the index fail again. I removed whole folders. I created a special share to index only a subset of the library. Over and over again, it failed. Then it started to fail on files it had previously successfully indexed. And that means it’s incapable of playing the tens of thousands of songs it CAN index. The support guy was helpful, but six weeks later they have no information on fixing this basic defect, despite admitting that the software works badly. I’m angry I waited too long for them to help to be able to return it.

Excellent For Streaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for one purpose- to listen to MQA encoded music on Tidal. I first tried it using the onboard DAC and was pleased with what I was hearing but thought it could sound a little more dynamic. I then used the optical out to connect it to an Oppo BDP-105D optical in to use its superior DAC and I am really happy with the sound. I had an issue with the Android app at first because it wasn't showing my complete music library. I emailed their customer service and received a reply in about four hours. Turns out there was no problem. It just needed time to build the library. After an overnight all my favorites are now there. Easy to set up and fabulous sounding music. Great product.

Dissapointed before playing one note
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this unit based on reviews from websites and magazines. I was upgrading from Sonos because I wanted better audio quality with my Hifi gear. Hooking it up was simple and the app found the player on its' own and even automatically updated the firmware. So far so good, Needless to say, when I went to add Pandora to my services it wasn't there. I guess I should have looked it up on their website before making a purchase. The support page says I can stream any service from my phone using Bluetooth. WHAT!?! The whole point of getting this was to upgrade my sound quality so there went that idea. So I packed it back up and returned it without listening to one note.

Limited Customer Service, Limited Library Size
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I chose the Bluesound Node 2 because of the good product reviews. In re-reading them, they all address the hardware, which is good for the price. The big shortcoming is virtually no customer support for a product that needs to network to other devices. 1) No human contact 2) Support only by email 3) 1-2 day response time per correspondence 4) double the time if the Bluesound employee is not reading your emails very carefully, and responds with a stock answer from their website. Additionally, they have no available escalation path. If the person assigned to your problem does not know much, you are stuck with them. Given that you can only return things for 15 days to Best Buy, you are almost certainly going to face a time crunch if you have any problems. My problem was that the Bluesound unit would not successfully scan my music library, even though previous Logitech and Subsonic systems could. Two big glitches in their design are 1) The software is not very robust. If their scanner hits a glitch, or a file it does not like, it simply quits, and all progress is lost. Your library file size is zero, and the library icon does not even appear on the user interface. No explanation. Or if you add music to your library, and if there is any problem, you lose your entire library index and need to sink much time to find the offending file and rescanning the whole thing. 2) The maximum number of songs you can have in your library is limited. The suggestion of the crack technical support team was to divide my library into two, even though there is no way to easily switch between the two libraries without erasing the first library index and a long re-scanning of the second library. When they proposed this solution, I asked what the end game was, what was the final solution. Their answer was, “Unfortunately we cannot tell you the "end game", as we really do not know (since we are the support crew, not the developers...). there isn't a way at the present time to have more songs in your library, we're sorry about the inconvenience... However what we can tell you is that our team of engineers continue to challenge this index limit while doing everything to better the Bluesound music experience for our customers.” So…..great product if you have a very small music library and never need any help.
