Is it really that good?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My search for a pair of bookshelf speakers for music listening ends with these B&W 706 S2. I started with Sonus Faber Venere 2.0, then Monitor Audio Gold 100, KEF LS50, KEF R300, Quad Z2, Focal Aria 906, and ended up with these. Not sure why I took the long way but the fun is in the journey I suppose. There is something special about these speakers and I cannot pinpoint it. Maybe it's the sweet and extended highs? Or is it the defined and tight bass? Or perhaps the open and accurate sounding mids? At the end of the day, these speakers allow me to enjoy my music and not wonder what else I could have tried in this price range. I am powering these with my Yamaha A-S1100 integrated amplifier and they match up very well. I just love how airy the tweeters sound (which is a very important characteristic for me) and not a dull moment with them. Also, if you value transparency and clarity, these 706 S2 might be your best bet, No you don't get super extended bass or the warmest sound, but you do get clarity, accuracy, and excellent instrument separation. B&W sound might not be for everyone but these fit the bill and my expectation perfectly. As for the look and build, the quality is excellent and cannot ask for more at this price. Give it a knuckle knock test and you will see how solid the cabinets are. The gloss finish is very nice and evenly applied. I will be using these in my main music system and maybe, just maybe, one day I will go for their 800 series.

Bookshelf speakers used as rear in home theater
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I listened to several bookshelf speakers, but opted for towers as they have superior sound. I was looking for rear speakers for the home theater. These we much more money than I wanted to spend on rears, as I thought rears wouldn’t add much to the listening experience. I was wrong to think that. They sound amazing in conjunction with my other 700 series speakers. In movies and music they don’t get lost but rather cleanly deliver the surround sounds the movie/music maker wanted you to hear. I no longer want to listen to music coming just from the front as I want to hear these great sounding bookshelf speakers.

Your patience will be rewarded!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these speakers along with a set of SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers to compare them in my main listening room on my own equipment. I have them running bi-amped from a Marantz SR 7015 receiver. When I first listened to the B&Ws out of the box (I got them on a good open box deal), they sounded very clear and well-balanced, with excellent imaging, but didn’t necessarily “wow” me. But, with a speaker of this caliber, you need to burn it in for a while before you reach peak sound. Knowing that, I kept these over the Ultras, which sounded a good bit brighter to me (even harsh in some instances). Let me say without doubt I made the right choice. With more burn in time, the B&Ws have opened up beautifully, and definitely brought the WOW. The detail in these is amazing, as are soundstage and imaging. Instruments sound like they are being played in space as opposed to just a recording of them being played. Bass is very strong for the size of the speakers and mids and highs are crystal clear without being harsh. I read other reviews on these that said to be patient with them and you will be richly rewarded. This is totally true. I suspect the original purchaser listened to them for a short time and wasn’t impressed and returned them. Well, their loss has been my gain. This is my first set of B&Ws, and I now understand the aura surrounding this brand in audiophile circles. If you are thinking about these, have no fear, be patient with them, then sit back and reap the rewards.

B&W 706 S2 vs KEF R3
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought both the KEF R3 and the B&W 706 S2 from Best Buy to sample in my sound space. I was operating on Best Buy's 15-day return policy. I found the R3s' sound stage more spacious and open but that also made the instruments sound further back with sounds coming from a more cavernous space. But.. vocals on the R3s seemed more pronounced and refined, so if you like vocals, I think the R3s may be a better choice. I am a bass player so I value solid mid-bass, which the 706 S2s have completely covered, and music that contains a bit less vocals and more instruments/drums/bass. With the music I listen to, the 706 S2 sound much more full and forward than the R3s, where the bass sounded weaker and sometimes distorted (strange since they are a 3-way speaker with ostensibly deeper bass delivery - maybe the R3 speakers need more break in time or a more powerful amplifier to sound better?). I ran both speakers with a Rotel 1070 (130 watt per channel) 2-channel amplifier. The R3s are rated up to 150W while the 706 S2s are rated up to 120W (the B&W manufacturers did confirm that using a more powerful amp would be just fine, though). The R3s are more beautiful and quite a bit bigger than the 706 S2. I really like the metal grill on the R3 with the walnut finish but after the demo, I ended up going with my ears and returning the KEFs and keeping the B&Ws; my speakers for life, I hope.

Beautiful full sound for your listening pleasure.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say WOW!!! What a speaker this is. First impression was yeah these are pretty nice. Spent more time getting them broken in and they started to open up. Was using the main speaker output to bi-wire them. Went into the setup configuration of my Denon AVR--3500 and under the audio section, was able to bi-amp the rear speaker amp, which could also be setup to run as Zone 2. I turned them on, listening to just some mp3 music and what a difference. These speakers came to life, showing how wonderful they can sound. At low volumes these sound beautiful. Turn up the volume, expecting them to get loud. Well they do and well they don't. By that I mean yes the level of volume increased. But the sound was still incredibly clear, defined and oh sooooo smooth. We have wi-fi speakers through out our home, 5 to be exact. Basically we have background music playing almost all day everyday and when the weather gets nice, one speaker gets moved outside. Now with the Bowers & Wilkins in place, I'm truly listening to music. Enjoying all these speakers have to offer.

Amazing clarity
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a hard time deciding which speakers to get for matching surrounds with B&W 702. I'm so happy I got this one. I was watching a war movie called Operation Red Sea. The sound is so real that I feel like I'm in the war zone!

Its never to late
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the 706 S2 to replace my current pioner floor standing. Wow I should have made that move years ago, I feel like I have missed out for years. After setting them up and playing my first track, I noticable an immediate increase in sound stage, projection, clarity and detail of anything I through at it. The biggest myth with the 706 S2 is the lack of base, I can assure you for a bookshelf speaker, they hold there own very well, well enough the base felt more accurate and real when compared to my floor standing mains. Excellent product.

These B&W speaker are amazing!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought several of these bookshelf speakers in the various sizes offered. They sound great for being so small and the amount of of bass they produce is unbelievable. if you can do yourself a favor and buy this pair of speakers they are just as good as Sonus Faber speakers that I have as a comparison.

Very happy with purchase
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had read a lot of reviews before buying. Excellent speakers, with a great sound and a big sound. Paired with Rotel 1592. Very efficient 8 ohm speakers. Does not take a big amp to drive, but a big amp really brings them alive.

Fantastic Bookshelf Speakers by B&W
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These B&W 706 S2s are superb. Bass is solid and realistic, mid-range is clean and super accurate, and treble is warm and clear. Vocals -- both male and female -- are about the best I've heard reproduced (and I've owned Tannoy, DCM Time Windows, Dahlquist. and Sonus Faber). I'm hearing harmonies and instrumental parts I've never heard. Get yourself a copy of Steely Dan's 'Two Against Nature' or Thomas Dolby's 'Aliens Ate My Buick' and see if you disagree. Classical piano music sounds like the performer is in the room. I'm very happy with this set of speakers. Electronic gear is: Bi-wire powered 80 watt per channel Rotel integrated amp and source is either Rotel CD 11 Tribute or Fluance RT85 with Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge. Buy these speakers.

Unbelievable Upgrade
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The B&W 700 series bookshelf speakers have blown me away. They replaced another set of high quality bookshelf speakers that were just a little small for the size of my room. While I was expecting improvement over my old speakers I was not expecting the level of sound clarity and power I have received from these speakers. I primarily use my 5.1 surround sound for watching movies, shows and gaming and these things rock when playing a 4k blue ray. I cannot recommend these enough if you are looking to upgrade.

Cream of the crop
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have bought a few items to try at my home and returned to try others. I started with what I thought were going to be fantastic Polk S55 towers. I then bought the B&W 606 S2 and could not believe that bookshelf speakers could completely destroy a set of towers. In every way shape and form the B&Ws are better from clarity to output on the low end. Who would have thought that a bookshelf with a single 6.5” woofer would have double the output of a tower with TWO 6.5” woofers. Then I thought, if the 606 are this great, let’s try the 706 S2. I am not disappointed in the least!! I have not run room correction yet on the 706s and I want to say they sound just as nice as the 606s with the room correction. I have them running off a NAD T 758 V3i and could not be happier. I have read many reviews on the web that say the B&Ws are harsh or bright. I have not experienced this at ALL. The cabinets are dead. Just solid dead glossy beautiful pieces of work. I would like to have tried the 705s but that’s not in the budget at this point. Even if you do not have a chance to demo these in a store, you can always buy and return. But I bet you won’t want to return.

Clean Natural Sound
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have wanted to have these speakers for years. I enjoy acoustic music and jazz. While my Martin Logan bookshelf speakers were good, these speakers definitely take you to the next level and provide more spatial sound with crisp clean highs and mids along with smooth bass. I’m very happy with them for music and theater sound.

Exceptional sounding speakers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our old Bose speakers were dying after 20 years of daily use. We upgraded to bowers and Wilkins 700 series 2 bookshelf speakers, center speaker, rear mounted speakers and sub woofer. Wow! What a difference in clarity and quality. We can hear so much more in our collection of music.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Using as rear surrounds with my 702s at the front to ensure matching timbre. I love them. With multi channel listening, no words. If the 705s are too much. Can’t go wrong with the 706
