I’ve been a fan of Brother products as of recently; I own an inkjet printer as well as dedicated scanners, all made by Brother. Having the MFC-L2820DW Laser B&W printer now allows me to go wild with black and white prints as well as having a one-stop shop for scanning. Here are some of my favorite features: It’s FAST. This thing prints and copies up to 34 pages a minute. It's got a 2.7-inch color touchscreen, which is very familiar if you’re a Brother user, and it’s user friendly in my opinion. The print quality is pretty sharp with a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi. Your documents are gonna look crisp and clear. Double-sided printing…I have to have it. Connectivity options: Whether you're into cables (USB), Wi-Fi, or Ethernet, you can connect however you like. Scans in both color and black & white, and it can fax too, in case you're still into that sort of thing. I mean…I’m not, to be honest. It comes with a one-year warranty. While the Brother MFC-L2820DW printer offers great advantages, there are a couple of drawbacks that I’ve noticed: The duplex feature is limited to printing. It does not extend to scanning, copying, or faxing through the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). This could be a limitation if you frequently need to scan or copy double-sided documents. I wish more all-in-one printers offered duplex. While the printer is relatively affordable, the cost per page, especially with the replacement toners, might be a bit higher compared to some other models. This could be a concern for users with a high volume of printing needs. But then again, I feel like all printers nowadays follow this business model. It’s not the quietest printer @ 49dB. I also own those “white” printers and they’re much, much quieter for the same laser operation. And even though the first two cons I called out are pretty legit to me, I took off a star here only because I feel this is where most of its time will be spent. Setup is very straightforward. You can either use the Windows “Add a Printer” approach or install the Brother Mobile Connect app on your phone to print documents directly from your phone. You can also monitor ink levels and manage your Refresh EZ Print subscription if you’re interested in the service. This service allows your printer to communicate to Brother when your ink is low and have them automatically send you ink. In my honest opinion, the service works best for those who print often and know how much you print in, say, a month. This will allow you to sign up for a “# of sheets per month” plan and charge you accordingly. It’s supposed to save you money…but for me I don’t print enough nor consistent in the volume of my prints. As far as just being an all-in-one….it’s pretty dang good to me!

Excellent Printer -- but not for Windows 7

I purchased this printer to replace a previous Brother Laser Printer that is finally wearing out after several decades of use. This new one prints and copies perfectly -- best quality ever! (I haven't tried scanning or sending faxes yet.) My only complaint is that it will NOT operate with a Windows 7 computer. I use a Windows 10 Desktop and a Windows 11 Laptop for most projects (and all internet uses), but some of my favorite photo and composition programs no longer work on newer operating systems. So now I am forced to compose my work on one computer and transfer the completed files to a different machine for printing. That's not really the printer's fault, but still an inconvenience. As long as you're not still using an older operating system, this is a great printer. Based on my previous Brother printer, I expect it to keep working for a long time.

Printer is fast and reasonably quiet. Good quality printing. Great for a home office. I have had difficulty in setting up the scanner. For reasons not clear to me the set up for the printer is separate from the scanner.

My wife has had a Brother printer for several years which looks very much like the new one I purchased. It is still working well and she is very satisfied with hers. My new one works as it should. My only complaint is that it does seem to be more flimsy than her old one. With care, that will not be a problem.

I got tired of dropping $75-100 each time I needed ink cartridges or just had dried out but full cartridges. Went to this laser printer. Should not have waited so long. This printer is a great value.

So far this printer is doing exactly what I expected it to do and that is to give high quality laser printed documents. The rating was not 5 star because the printer has not been in service long enough for me to include the important attribute of longevity.

Solid printer with a lot of great features. However, its lack of USB-A (such as for USB Drives) compatability makes it difficult to use when not on a secure network.

The Brother MFC-L2820DW is a versatile all-in-one monochrome laser printer that caters to the needs of home offices and small businesses. Its compact design and multifunctionality make it a convenient choice for users looking to streamline their workspace. One standout feature is the printer's fast printing speed, capable of delivering up to 27 pages per minute. This makes it efficient for handling various printing tasks, from important documents to lengthy reports. The automatic duplex printing is another plus, saving both paper and the environment. The wireless connectivity options provide flexibility, allowing users to print directly from their smartphones or tablets. The setup process is relatively straightforward, making it accessible for users with varying technical expertise. The inclusion of Wi-Fi Direct is a notable convenience for quick and hassle-free printing. However, the MFC-L2820DW does have its shortcomings. The absence of color printing may limit its appeal for users who require vibrant and detailed color output. Additionally, the absence of a touchscreen display might be seen as a drawback in comparison to some competitors in the market. One noticeable concern is the occasional paper jam issue that I experienced. While it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem, it's worth mentioning as it can be frustrating when it occurs. The paper handling capacity is decent but may not be sufficient for larger print jobs, requiring more frequent refilling. In terms of noise levels, the MFC-L2820DW operates relatively quietly, but it could be quieter during printing. This might be a consideration for users in shared or quiet office spaces. In summary, the Brother MFC-L2820DW is a reliable monochrome laser printer that excels in speed, wireless connectivity, and duplex printing. Its compact design makes it suitable for smaller spaces. However, the lack of color printing, absence of a touchscreen display, occasional paper jam issues, and moderate noise levels are factors to weigh. Considering these aspects, I would rate the Brother MFC-L2820DW a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's a strong performer with some minor drawbacks that may or may not impact the user's specific needs.
