Great video. Good photos.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned this for about a month before returning. I was really torn, because the video features are really nice! Plus, there are a lot of pro-grade elements on the camera - dual card slots, clean hdmi out, weather-proofing, etc. The dual-pixel autofocus system is amazing for doing live autofocus during filming, and the video image quality is very good. AND I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt on still photo quality. I upgraded glass to Canon's L series lenses to see just what the camera was capable of. However, I had also tried those lenses on a Canon 6D full-frame camera, and that camera and lenses were amazing! I could NOT get those same results with the 7DMII. I could get good results with 7DMII, but not the amazing results that I get from 6D. Overall, I'd say this is a very good camera, especially for videographers, but if you're going to spend this much money, I'd recommend going with 6D instead.

Nice upgrade from original 7D
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased our original 7D from Best Buy in 2011. It has served us well since then and still is a great camera. Purchasing the 7D Mk II was a no-brainer upgrade from our original 7D. Some of the nice upgrades include: -Built in GPS for geotagging photos and/or logging trips. -Greatly improved AF. -Now has 10 fps burst mode (the original 7D had 8 fps). -Improved video features, including a headphone jack for monitoring audio during recording -Dual card slots (one for CF and one for SD). This makes using a wifi SD card possible without an SD to CF adapter if you want cheap wifi. -New dial around the joystick that by default changes AF modes, but can be programmed to other functions if you want. -Improved ISO performance over the original 7D. The one con I would have against this camera is the lack of onboard wifi. While I understand the metal casing on the camera reduced wifi performance, the only way to add official wifi is with a pretty expensive external wifi device (upwards of $700). You can, of course, use a SD wifi card for transferring files, but it does not allow remote shooting like the official wifi adapter.

Great camera for serious amateur or professional
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very fast and accurate automatic focusing even in video mode. The first version of the 7D could only be manually focused in video mode, which often put audible noise into the video and was almost always inaccurate. Great color rendition, silent zoom and focus with 18-135mm STM kit lens - particularly good again for videos. Pro-level sealing against dust and water. Cropped sensor (1.6 multiple of full-frame lens focal lengths) is especially good for sports and wildlife, but nothing is lost for great portraits or landscapes. A 50mm prime lens on this camera gives similar results as a much more expensive 85mm portrait lens on a full frame camera. All 65 focus points are cross type and the center point is also diagonal type. This allows you to selectively focus on subjects near the frame's edges. Even the 5D Mark III has only 45 cross type of its 61 total focus points. The previous version 7D had on 19 focus points and the more expensive (full-frame) 6D has on 11 focus points. The menu system is identical to 5D Mark III including 6 focusing cases (options) to ignore or include objects coming into your view that might otherwise interfere with your subject. Focus cases also allow tracking of subjects that make quick and unpredictable movements. Although the 7D Mark II does not have a touch screen for quicker focusing in Live View, it does have silent focusing in video mode using the touch pad surrounding the Quick Control Dial. This camera has 252 metering zones versus the original 7D's 63. It also has a 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor vs. a 100,000-pixel sensor on the Canon 1DX that costs almost 4 times more! 1080p videos can be made at 60 fps so that slow motion playback at 30 fps is smooth. Not even the 5D Mark III can do that! This camera is solid and make no mistake, it's a great camera that will give you years of terrific photos and videos.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Besides the quality of the pictures, I love how fast they develop and how clear they are. Setting photos up is also easier, and have fun manipulating the subject. I wish it had panoramic mode though.

Great camera for sports/wildlife
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was an upgrade for me from the Canon 60D. The 7D mkII is a great choice for someone who is comfortable shooting in manual mode and is looking to upgrade. While it is a crop sensor camera it can compete with the higher end Canon full frame sensor models at a lower cost. Having a shot rate of 10fps makes this camera great for shooting sports, wildlife and other situations where one needs to keep up with the action. I have gotten some very nice shots of birds in flight that would have been difficult to capture with the 60D and its slower fps. The autofocus works well in keeping a moving target in focus when using ai servo and back button AF. The lens that comes with the camera is good for a kit lens, all of the pictures I have taken with this lens are sharp and clear. One other thing I have noticed is that this camera has a much quieter shutter than the 60D, while this may be nit picking and irrelevant to some, it was something I noticed from the start. Overall I think it's a very good camera and a good choice for someone looking to upgrade without the expense of a full frame sensor camera.

Love this Camera!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using my ancient Canon Rebel (1st gen) since it came out. I am a professional photographer but mainly keep it to small jobs and family/friends as well as selling prints. I bought my wife a Nikon D7000 a few years ago as a Christmas gift and was heavily leaning towards getting one for myself. Its an excellent, solid camera. But I have all Canon compatible parts for mine. Then I found this open box deal and thought it was too good to be true. I bought it and haven't looked back. Its a fantastic camera. All manual controls are right at your fingertips and you can even turn on a full Heads Up Display in the viewfinder for everything, so no longer do I have to look at the LCD screen while adjusting my F-stops, apertures, or ISO's. The auto-focus is instant and the quality is superb. It has two card slots (CF and SD). If you are looking for a fantastic DSLR (and you know how to shoot on full manual, otherwise a DSLR is a waste of money if you only shoot auto) this camera should definitely be considered.

Huge Improvements over the original Canon 7D
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't say enough about how much Canon improved the Canon 7D Mark II over the original Canon 7D. The low light is absolutely incredible. The original 7D lens had several known issues. Lens creep if you purchased the camera with the lens was a nightmare. The third original 7D that I received didn't have any, but the first two were awful. The 7D Mark II has a lens lock which solves this problem. The original 7D had a serious overheating issue when shooting video. The 7D Mark II now has SD and so far hasn't shown overheating issues when shooting longer videos and saving to the SD. In video mode the 7D Mark II now has the ability to auto focus and can be set to focus on a subject in the cameras view. The original 7D didn't have this feature. The only two negative things would be that they should have integrated Wi-Fi and SD UHS-II. The 7D Mark II is an amazing camera and the improvements make it well worth the pricing difference between the two.

Great camera!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was debating between 7D Mark ii and 6D. 6D is a full frame and great in low light setting. 7D Mark ii is a more compact (build-in flash) camera . Although 7D Mark ii is not smaller than 6D, somehow, 7D feels better in my hands. At the end, "full frame" is not my priority and I like the 7D Mark ii's sensors and price more :) Before this I've been using 450D which is a much lower model, so I can see huge differences in focusing and camera's sensors. I am pretty happy with the EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens that came with the camera. It gives me better zooms than my old lens kit.

Great camera after initial flaw
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the camera in mid November in order to have for the events of the holiday season. I took photos in many different locations and lighting environments. The photos would look decent in preview mode, but when uploaded to the computer I began to notice how soft and blurry many of them were. The keeper rate was really low. I read several other reviews on various sites with the same issue, so decided to exchange it for a new one. It appears to be an isolated problem, but is disheartening if you end up with one of the lemons. Since exchanging the camera the new one has a much higher keeper rate. I look forward to seeing all it can do over the next couple of months.

Truly Wonderful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took me months to choose between the 5D Mark III and the 7D Mark II. I chose the 7D Mark II because of the faster shutter speeds and the overall functionality. I spend more time outdoors taking pictures usually of sports or animals, landscapes, etc. The faster shutter speed really helps. the 7D Mark II does not have full frame, it is cropped but in my personal opinion the 7D is worth it.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Next best thing to a 1DX, but at a 1/3 of the price. I've had this for about a month still learning all the custom functions. I'm glad I upgraded from the 7D

Canon 7D Marrk ii is a Sports Beast!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After several months of deliberation I chose the Canon 7D Mark ii because of the impressive autofocus capabilities/reviews and 10 frames per second shooting capability. Been shooting High School Football games and have been impressed with the tight focus even when utilizing a 300MM lense. The shot selection from the 10 fps is amazing and I could not be happier that I purchased this camera! Also took it on a trip to Europe and was able to adjust AF to capture some shots that otherwise would have been impossible to get. Camera has a great feel and balance to it.

Best APS-C Camera on the Market
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera hands down is one of the best canon SLR's they've ever made!! While it isn't the 1D, it also is less than $2000. For the price you get amazing AF crosshair points, lightning fast shutter speed, and the feeling of a sturdy camera! It is a great improvement over my old camera and I am glad I choose it over the 6D!
