Classic RPG that deserves a re-release
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is probably my favorite SNES game, not just SNES RPG, of all time. The music, particularly the battle music, hooked me from the start when I discovered this gem amongst my dad's collection of SNES games in our basement two years ago. Yasunori Mitsuda, a famed video game music composer, is credited with most songs, while Nobuo Uematsu, the mastermind behind the music of the Final Fantasy series up through the tenth installment, created ten of the tunes. One of those, the first boss battle music (first heard against Yakra) is an arrangement of a song composed by Noriko Matsueda...but I digress. The soundtrack ranges from epic to tragic, and its influences range from jazz to ethnic Indian. In any case, the character development is extraordinary, with everyone's backstory revealed to varying degrees, often dependent on your involvement in sidequests. Techs (short for Techniques, as you may have guessed) are based off of either a character's elemental affinity (assuming he or she has one) or his or her physical characteristics and personality (a couple of girls use their looks to their advantage in battle, for example), and they can be combined with the unique moves of other characters to create even more distinct moves. In addition, some are topographically based; the enemies they target will depend on the placement of the enemies, making battles even more strategic. Some Final Fantasy gamers (particularly VII, VIII, and IX that I know of, since I haven't played others) will be familiar with the Active Time Battle system, which utilizes a bar that empties after a character's turn and refills based on his or her speed proficiency. The added Arena allows you to raise and train a monster of your own, which can compete on just your game or against other gamers wirelessly. My only qualm is that dialogue has been slightly changed (in a few places, not too many) from the original. While it may be more true to the original (I had heard that Ted Woolsey's original translation was good, but not as true as it could have been), it removed quotes familiar to old-school Chrono Trigger gamers and even a couple of allusions. But other than that, the game is awesome and definitely recommended to those of you who have never played it...and even those who have, for the sake of reminiscence and new material.

AWSOME CLASSIC RPG
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.chrono trigger if you were not around for the snes era, is a classic rpg game where you play chrono, the hero of the game and travel back in forth between time, meeting new team mates, trying to prevent the world from being detroyed from lavos. the game has plenty of armor, items and weopons along with some great characters and NEW cutscnenes not in the origional game. The game also features multiple endings depending on how you play the game, actions you take and when you choose to fight the main boss. for its time the graphics were great, even in the snes era. it is a direct port with some new cutscenes and an option for a new DS style instead of the classic style i am used to seeing. the game brings back fond memories and is still a great rpg to play. in my opinion it is one of the top 10 games of all time and worth purchasing. also new to ds cartriges, this game is one of the first to feature anti-copyright protection, meaning it locks up on the screen when you go through the time portal the first time (lucas invention) if you downloaded the game. overall squaresoft/squareenix has always been one my all time favorite game producers due to their great storylines, inventive characters, imaginative enemies and rememorabel classics that todays games dont come close to anymore. it is a great game and is worth purchasing brand new.

The return of a timeless classic.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chrono Trigger first hit store shelves in 1995 as a classic, 2d RPG for the Super Nintendo. Since then, the game has amassed a following of old school gamers and new gamers alike. The game play hasn't changed much in thirteen years, but there are a few new additions. New dungeons and a battle arena will keep those who are playing for the 100th time busy, while the plot and characters alone should appeal to the younger crowd. The game can be played in either DS Mode, where you use the touch screen for the menu, or Classic Mode, to eliminate the touch ability altogether. The game also sports the Playstation animated sequences and the same wonderful music composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu & Noriko Matsueda. Chrono Trigger is most often viewed as the best game of all time, aside from Final Fantasy VII. To those playing for the first time, you will see why. Enjoy!

AWESOME GAME
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since this game has yet to arrive on the DS, I will base it off the SNES version which is supposedly almost exactly the same. One of my top games. This game was fun and massive. You have a wide variety of characters to play with, and they each come with their own special moves not only for each other, but with whomever you're battling with as well. The animation is great, especially for when this game was made. The story is long and elaborate with one of the most frustrating bosses you can fight. However the characters are cool, and who you use to fight the boss gives you different endings, so you'll want to finish this more than once. With the DS version, there are supposed to be a few more dungeons to play on to make this game that much longer. I am looking forward to this game, and you should too. One of the best RPG games I've ever played.

Classic game repackaged
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the best RPGs ever made, even if it dates from 1995. The gameplay is not dated one bit, but the graphics are. Still, they are quite charming and will bring back memories to anyone who has played games in the 16 bit era. Chrono Trigger is still one of the best games you can get and, at $29.99, it is a bargain.

My Favorite Game of All Time!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is not for small time gamers! It is very LONG and strategic, 50+ hours of game play to beat it. Best story line for a video game by far, each character has a story and needs help solving some sort of issue. Traveling through time and changing history requires that you go back and forth until things are set the way that they should be, but beware, some of the choices that are made can change the future for the worst! GET THE GAME and love it!

GREATEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember when I was first getting into video games and this is one of the first games I picked up. And still 13 years later (the game was released in 1995) it is still amazing. The story line is great, the game play is awesome. Simply putting this game was before its time, I mean 13 different ends for a super nintendo game. If you loved it back than, you'll love it now..
