Great At All Levels
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sub was recommended by Magnolia staff at BB. I wanted a subwoofer to work well with my Paradigm 5 speaker setup. I do a lot of music listening and that feature was very important. I also love good movies so it needed to work well in that area too. The subwoofer is easily one of the most important speakers in a home theater setup. It's also great with a stereo setup as that really low, underlying sound can only be achieved with a good subwoofer. The setup was so easy too! Just plug in the LFE cable out from the receiver to the input on the back of the sub and plug it in. So thats the easy part... I researched subs and sub placement for about 6 months prior to purchase. It was very important to me that the sound output from the sub NOT just rumble the floors and walls. Since an active subwoofer is mono and omnidirectional, placement can be key. I actually designed a table configuration for it. Yes, you read that correctly, I am using it on a low, 18" wood table with steel structured legs. Think of the old sewing machine tables. They are built to handle those old heavy sewing machines and reduce vibration. That is very important! The table, desk, or shelf needs to support at least 70 lbs. or more. The ProSub 1000 clocks in at about 35 ibs. A sub, this sub, is very heavy and I did not want any chance of it falling! So for me, placing it on the floor in a corner was not an option. The table raises the sound output to sitting at ear level. I used a 2 inch thick wood cutting board to top off the table for even more stability. All was held together greatly by using Gorilla 2 Sided Tape. The tape actually provided the stability I wanted. It is also very easy to cut and apply. After securing the table, I placed a 1 inch piece of tape under each foot measuring to keep the sub properIy aligned. I certainly did not want any obstructions blocking the sub output resulting in inferior balance. Yes, the sub balances well with the entire speaker setup. Bass waves travel in such a way that anything blocking it diminishes the output. Some may disagree, and thats ok. Ive tried it both ways and will tell you this...Placing the sub 18" up allowed me to finely tune the output. The Def Tech Pro Sub 1000 also has a passive bass radiator on the bottom that works in unison with the included 10" woofer. This plays an important role too. It's a way for the sub to perform even better making it more punchy and at even lower tones. Think of it like this... the included 10" woofer acts even better, more like a 15" woofer sound. It keeps up with all music as it blends in just great! Having a volume knob on the right front side is so convenient as well. Slight adjustments are easy to do. The main setup is done through my Pioneer Elite AVR. Your Audio Video Stereo is used to tighten everything up, so to speak. So let me say this...Try the unconventional approach! You might be very surprised. Also purchase a sound meter which can easily be found for under $20. Lastly, give the sub some time to "break-in". This is accomplished by just using it for maybe 100 hours. Need not be 100 in a row! Just a general guideline. The baffles ease up along with the speaker cone. This will provide an even more coherent, well integrated sound. This review was written after using it for about 1 month. Definitive Technology has great phone tech support if you have any questions about setup. Now its time to sit back and just enjoy those sweet, clear low bass tones! I read somewhere that a subwoofer is about 40% of a home theater speaker setup. I agree 100% with that! The Def Tech ProSub 1000 is easy to recommend AND also easily worthy of 5 out of 5 stars!

Great buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this model to replace the same model we had but was about 5 years old. Unfortunately we had a power surge go through and ruin ours. This model is perfect for our living room and gives us the sound quality we like. Perfect size for a large living room.

Trusted the best buy rep
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mangolia rep told me this sub was one of the best especially for price. We tried to preview it but the speaker inside the room was blown!? Although a nice sub, definitely not all that it's made out to be. For that price, I've heard better. The adjustment on the side of the sub is amazing. Perhaps if it wasn't for that I'd give this sub 3 stars. I understand why people like it and I can admit it's a quality product, but at this price point I expect 5 star product and this isn't quite it.

Clean, fantastic sub for small to midsized rooms
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have it hooked up to a Sony strh790 and bowers & wilkins 603 anniversary. It compliments the B&W really well, and has a very tiny footprint. For $250, it works perfectly. My home theater room is really small, so I don’t need multiple subs or giant 15” earth movers. Demo’d Jurassic Park 4k, scene during the rainstorm. Nice, crisp thunder and foot stomps. No warbling or rolling. Had volume at around 50% and crossover at 40. Dino roars, and you couldn’t tell where in the room the sub was, you could only feel it. It sounded like it was a natural extension of the speakers. My wife even mentioned if it was on, she only heard the tower speakers, so we replayed the scene, and half way I pulled the sub cable out. The bass cut 50% out of the movie. Not bad for such a tiny subwoofer. wife put it through its paces with songs from The Doors, Led Zeppelin, and seal (odd mix, but whatever!)... sounds great. Percussion was deep, and you could clearly hear levels in the bass. Threw on some instrumental jazz by Kaori Kobayashi. Crystal clear. I’m really impressed.

Added the bottom
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in the market for a new sub-woofer because my previous speaker had blown from an electrical storm. I was looking for a subwoofer that would add back the missing bottom tones from the surround sound system without breaking the bank. I know that good subs tend to be expensive, but I searched for reviews that focused in subs that were no more than $500. This sub was in every single compilation review of the "Best Subwoofers under $500". So I went over to the nearest Magnolia location to actually hear it. I liked this sub considerably more than some that were $100 to $400 more. It has great tone, more than enough rumble when needed and helps to fill my large room with sound. I think its the best bargain out there for a good quality subwoofer.

Great sounding bass
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sub really has great, tight sounding bass. It add great bass to the pair of Klipsch RP160M book shelf speakers and improves the overall lows tremendously. The volume control for the sub is very useful to adjust for different types of music. The price at Best Buy was the best available anywhere online or in store.

Love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced my Martin Logan 500 Dynamo that kept acting up with this sub and wow what a difference. The bass is so much more responsive and tight with less floor space. Not much else to say, its a sub and sounds awesome. Oh yeah has a volume knob on the side for quick on the fly adjustments.

Big Bass
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was sold on the Bose reputation and I did like the sound. However, after several trips to the Best Buy Home Theatre demonstrations room I found myself liking the Definitive Technology more than the rest. Unfortunately, the price was a little more than the Bose which was tapping me out as it was. I almost went Bose because I could have got a system at COSTCO for hundreds less but I went back one more time to Best Buy and the salesmen, yes SalesMEN, there did a fantastic job of isolating the system with different receivers and bass settings on the sub. I couldn't deny the superiority when tuned in to my listening preferences. Def Tech was having a sale for a few hundred off and I couldn't pass it up. It was still more than I budgeted but I was promised by the salesmen that Def Tech is a good quality built, dependable, durable, product with longevity. If that turns out to be untrue then I may not have made the right decision since I was only buying this type of system once. If it is true then I "DefTechnitely" made the right call.

Nice Deep Bass
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sub sounds a million times better in my Home Theater set-up than it did in the BB Magnolia Theater in store. The marble flooring at my house really makes a huge difference though.

Solid Power in a Small Package
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ll preface this review by saying I’m not an audiophile but I do appreciate the differences between an ok and a good sub when it comes to cinema. This little guy is powerful enough for a two story greatroom without needing to turn the gains all the way up. It’s punchy but also handles the drawn out bass needed for certain scenes. I’ve listened to a variety of music as well and I’ve been pleased.
