Tons of extra unused space below the keyboard, but maybe its because it has a DVD drive? My older Dell has a 17" screen and is much smaller with all the extras. It's still light and a good machine.

It was 8 years old and makes this Dell look like an ox cart passed by a Maserati. I had to go to an old ACER that was nearly 10 years old while waiting for this Dell to arrive. It is blazing fast compared to the new Dell. I immediately had Best Buy Geek Squad put in another 8GB of memory in this...but this is a plodding machine. I suppose the problem is a deficient CPU at 1.7ghz (supposedly has a turbo burst function for more-haven't seen it yet). Anyway, I'll just have to get buy with what I bought. Thought I had a better machine after my first Dell. Maybe it just takes a few years to break in? I'm retired from a hardwood flooring business, but helping my son do the bids & ordering...and for that...it functions fine. Try listening or watching youtubes or streaming? Not so hot. Maybe slow and steady is what I need right now This is not about the Best Buy company or the Geek Squad. I had a small issue with them, but it was expertly resolved. This is my rating on this Dell Inspiron.

Thanks for your review and we're sorry that your computer is not performing the way that you hoped it would. We'd recommend running the Windows Performance Troubleshooter to see if there are ways for your computer to perform better for you:
1. Close all open windows.
2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
3. Click Control Panel.
4. Click System and Security.
5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
8. Restart the PC.

Good Price Runs Smooth But Slow

I will add memory and replace the 2tb HHD with a 2tb SSD to speed it up a bit. It is one of the few remaining laptops equipped with an internal optical drive, which is why I bought it.

OK laptop but dell service is poor

Luckily I had a spare SSD, installed it myself and now it is so much faster Dell service eventually came out and I just gave them the old drive and they gave me new one.

Fantastic Laptop

I've hated them, found them difficult to type on - still do to a certain extent, but as a personal trainer, I needed something portable to be able to train my clients using zoom. I did a lot of research, and settled on the Dell Inspiron because it offered so many features, and was amazingly reasonably priced. I'm still not in love with laptops in general, but this one is great for anyone. It's easy to use, has tremendous storage - 8GB, 2TB i7. I'm really learning to like using it more than I thought I would. If I learn to love a laptop it will be this one. Anita

Start-up and set-up was easy and mostly automated, though it took a while. The Inspiron runs fast and the screen size, resolution, and color are useful and impressive. Camera and mic work well, and I prefer the dedicated HDMI and multiple USB ports. I did not think to measure my briefcase in advance, but the Inspiron 17.3" is larger than most briefcases can hold, so an alternate carrying bag may be required. Not the best choice for use on an airplane or in the park, but a great choice for portable desktop/tabletop use.

I won't say that it is intuitive, however the processor is fast enough to make it seem like files are opened when I think about it. The screen is wonderfully large, bright, and colorful. The carbon fiber construction is lightweight and makes for a better grip when carrying it.

The screen is nice and large. It's big but not too heavy and still fit on my laptop desk. The performance is very good as well. No complaints so far!

Thanks for your review. If you'd like to improve your computer's battery life we'd recommend the following:
Change the Power Plan:
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
2. On the options list, click Power Options.
3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.
