Right hinge broke after 1 year of light use

Right hinge broke after 1 year. I never use the tablet mode (i.e. I never rotate the computer all the way…). One day, I gently opened my laptop as I always do, but I heard a crack. The bottom right part of the screen had popped out. I was very very careful for the next couple of days. Then, I opened my computer again and the hinge completely broke off and the screen went black. NO ONE is helpful since I juuuust passed the 1 year warranty. I can’t believe I paid $800 for this piece of crap for it to completely break after barely a year of light use. I am absolutely infuriated and am receiving no help. I really want my money back. Also, even before this happened, then fan on this computer is SO loud and constant, even when nothing is blocking the fan. It’s absolutely ridiculous. This laptop is a piece of junk.

This Dell laptop is a significant upgrade to my super old Macbook from 2011! I had no idea how I was still using my old laptop. It was so slow and desperately needed more memory to run its programs. This Dell laptop is super fast, runs smooth an both camera and volume is good quality. I would have bough it long time ago if I knew it would be fun to work on it. The only thing I dont like is the weight. Its much heavier than my old MacBook.

BAD HINGE DESIGN! Poor Dell customer service!

I purchased this laptop 2 years ago for 975$ and use it only for work and casual surfing. I have never used it as a tablet. Yesterday morning, while setting up the computer at the usual laptop angle, I heard a crack and noticed that the right bottom of the screen had a part sticking out. The screen had come off the hinge and broke. I immediately called Dell and they said that they could not help me because it was not covered by warranty although THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT!! Apparently there is class action lawsuit filed for precisely this reason. They kept trying to call it accidental damage due to user error. Even after repeatedly describing that there was no 'accident'. I would have to pay an obscene amount to get it repaired. The computer is still functional (SO FAR) so I may be able to use it as a desktop but this is such a rip-off. I might have been better off buying a much cheaper laptop. Buyers, beware!

Bad hinges. There is a class action suit against Dell because they are selling these laptops that they know have horrible hinges. The right hinge randomly broke which also damaged the screen. This happened just over 1 year after purchasing so of course its warranty is no longer good. This is a recurring issue as you can see from the reviews.

Just like another customer review, it was a good laptop until yesterday where I open the screen and the right hinge got stock or something broke and cracked the corner of the laptop and the screen glass !!! Best Buy support was no help and said to call DELL. Called DELL support & Warranty department and they said the damage is not covered. This is a design flaw and they are not covering it !!! First time I had to leave a rating like this. Not happy paying over $900 for this laptop.

The Dell - Inspiron 7415, 2-in-1, 14.0" Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive says that the color is Mist Blue, but even in the brightest light looks like a charcoal gray at best with maybe a tinge of blue. This 14" 2 in 1 is fairly light weight, 5 pounds or less, and can easily be carried around in one hand and put in some sort of small tote or bag. For this MSRP, I think that Dell could have included at least some sort of sleeve or carrying case because other than the power unit, there are no other accessories that come with the 2 in 1. However, this unit does have 360 degree auto-rotate and can thus be used as a laptop in multiple directions, as well as, a tablet in multiple directions, too. I really like this feature for convenience sake. I also really like that this computer can also be used by either engaging the touch pad or just using your fingers, like you would on your smartphone, swiping and touching the computer's screen. Keyboards will pop up on the screen and you can fill in screens or whatever that way versus using the official keyboard. The very brief printed owner instructions note that this unit includes Wireless-AX, Bluetooth, Micro SD Card Reader, HDMI and USB Type-C, Waves Maxx Audio and a back lit keyboard that is great for working or playing in dim or no light. This unit does have a fingerprint reader for safety'sake. The Webcam can be shuttered because at the top where the view finder is, there is a sliding mechanism that either puts the view finder either fully open or shut for privacy and especially kids these days with Zoom and other conferences. The solid state drive is so very quiet, cool, and the machine is very quick, great if you are wanting to communicate quickly. The reason for only 4 stars is that I do not feel that I have put it through its paces long enough to run into trouble yet. However, the set up is easy peasy, and the battery life is to die for. I took it out of the box with some charge, charged it, and have for a long time just been shutting the covers, not even turning it off, and when I pick it up each time it is on and engaged in a split second or so. The only thing that bothered me was that there was no separate 10 key, I am a CPA, but maybe 2 in 1's with only 14" screens do not have enough real estate to put one in. So, other than this 2 in 1 not being able to detach at the hinge and coming with no real accessories. like a stylus pen, carrying case, mouse, or other loaded software, or 24/7 live US-based, no questions asked support like these do on the shopping channels, all is good.

If you are looking for an awesome little laptop and maybe the occasional use as a tablet this is a great choice! As far as a laptop, It's a perfect size to fit into a small bag, it’s super fast, the screen looks amazing, It has Alexa built in, back light keyboard for low light work, awesome battery life, responsive touch screen, all the right ports I need and a nice touch with the camera privacy shutter. It also has a right and left microphone for stereo on the zoom calls! I give it 5 stars for a laptop without reservation. Then I began to play with the tablet mode and looked for the screen release button to pull the monitor off for the tablet experience…and….no detachable screen. It just folds over. Which makes for an awkward hold and heavy. You're carrying around a lot of extra weight in the unit as opposed to a unit that truly converts to a tablet and detaches from the keyboard unit. The detachable screen is key for people that are truly wanting a tablet experience (for me anyway). It also has the keys of the keyboard exposed as I was holding the unit (see pics) which just felt wrong. As far as tablet functionality, it worked ok. The screen was responsive with my Microsoft stylus pen and writing was smooth. Then I went into “tent mode” This is where this 2 in 1 is nice that the screen doesn’t detach. The hinge is firm and solid and allows for a great media experience in tent mode and you can draw and sketch easily as well. I also liked that I could really adjust the angle of the "tent" due to the solid hinge feature. I also liked that the hinge feature in the laptop props the keyboard a little bit giving it a better typing angle in "laptop" mode. Overall I really liked this unit as a laptop that can “tent” easily. As far as a tablet again…just so so. It functioned ok as a tablet but the heaviness and feeling the keys depress when I held it in my hands detracted from the function for me. Hence the 4 stars. If you don’t use the tablet feature much or are ok with the weight and keys being depressed then I’d say 5 stars.

Charger stopped working on the second day. This was unfortunate because otherwise it's a terrific computer. The Ryzen 7 processor and 16 GB of RAM made it feel very snappy and fast. The keyboard felt great and the quality of the display and responsiveness to touch were good. I tried multiple working electrical outlets in my house using the factory charger. I also tried running the onboard diagnostics. However, I decided that it just wasn't worth it to keep a computer that was already giving me problems within the first 24 hours of owning it.

Nice laptop, great features & thin, clean design

The Dell Inspiron 14 arrived in a nondescript cardboard box, not much of an unboxing experience. Included in the box is the laptop, a charger (USB-C) and a plug to go with the charger. Once opened, I was pleasantly surprised with a laptop that is very nicely designed fairly thin, clean and sleek. The top lid is an attractive metallic dark blue color while the lower half is a dark metallic gray color. I’m not sure if I like the two tone color scheme. I think it would look nicer if it were all blue. Setup was very straight forward, as with other Windows devices, you simply log in with your Microsoft login and your settings are applied. I like that the camera has a privacy shutter (albeit with a tiny metal slider button that doesn’t slide easily) that you can actually see when it’s activated. I have a work laptop that has a privacy shutter also, but it’s not as obvious when its activated. In addition to the 2 USB 3.2 and 1 USB-C ports, there is a HDMI port! On my 2 other laptops (1-3 years old), they don’t have HDMI ports, so if I wanted to put something on the TV, I need to use a USB-C adapter. There is also a Micro SD slot for your photos. The keyboard is backlit with a high and low setting. While we’re on the keyboard, the function keys do double duty as F1-F12 as well as computer settings (volume, keyboard lighting etc). You toggle between function keys and setting keys by pressing fn+esc buttons to lock the function keys or setting keys. But there’s no indicator to tell you which selection you’re on. On my other laptops, there is either a LED that turns on to let you know that the function keys are active, or you hold the fn key and the setting key to activate. Minor pet peeve I suppose. Using the laptop is a very pleasant experience, the keyboard is nicely laid out and a good size. The power button, on the upper right of the keyboard, doubles as a fingerprint reader to log into Windows, definitely a nice feature! I was a bit surprised that facial recognition unlock isn’t available on this laptop though. The 2 in 1 feature is nice, but I don’t usually use the laptop as a tablet, I find it too heavy. I downloaded a trading application I use use daily and it installed and ran very quickly. I also installed Microsoft Office and used Excel and Word with no issues. This laptop should be able to handle all my everyday tasks with ease. Dell Mobile Connect: As an iPhone and iMessage user, I usually have my phone nearby to read or send messages. With Dell Mobile Connect, it allows me to send and receive iMessages and text messages, in addition, I get all the notifications on my phone. It tried to mirror my phone basically. It seems to do this somewhat successfully. I can send and receive messages, it won’t however, copy all your current messages on your phone to the app. When I rebooted the PC, the conversations I had started on the PC went away (they’re still on my iPhone). I should also be able access my photos and videos from this app also, but I wasn’t having any luck. Both my laptop and iPhone are on the same wifi; the instructions on the screenovate web site shows that in the Dell Mobile access app, I need to have a setting “allow local network access” toggled in the ON position. On my phone, that setting isn’t even available (see photos uploaded). It seems the Dell Mobile Connect app needs some work, but it’s a good attempt to bridge the gap between your mobile device and PC. Alexa came pre-installed with the laptop, this is great, as I have many Alexa products, but don’t have an Alexa speaker near my office where I will be using the laptop. With the Alexa app, I can have Alexa turn on lights, control the thermostat, etc as if I had a speaker nearby! But this isn’t unique to this Dell laptop, I was able to download the Alexa PC app on my other Windows laptop as well. Overview: This is a great little laptop for anyone looking for a laptop for work or school. The minimal design, features and processor speed makes it a great choice and I would highly recommend it. I did have a few “cons” on my list, but they’re minor issues, not deal breakers. I look forward to using this Dell laptop on a daily basis in my home office! Pros: 1. fingerprint reader 2. Nice, clean design 3. Dell Mobile 4. Mechanical privacy shutter (that you can see when it’s on/off) 5. Light up keyboard 6. Alexa Cons: 1. Can’t unlock using face 2. 2 tone color scheme 3. No LED to indicate whether function keys are on or not 4. Privacy shutter difficult to slide

Dell Inspiron 2 in 1 laptop its a perfect compact laptop for me, at first 14" laptop might be too small for my liking but overall experience it actually end up being a benefit to my lifestyle. about this Inspiron 2 in 1 its 14" full 1080p HD, running the latest AMD Ryzer 7 5700U. it does have a single USB A on both side, the laptop does not use a standard power connector it does use the USB C thats on the left side of the laptop, you might want to get an adapter incase you would like to use the USB C plug and charge at the same time. on the right side you also get one micro SD port and USB A and headphone jack. with 16GB of RAM it should be enought, you also get 512GB of SSD which id recommend to update it to atleast 1TB. cant forget about front facing camera so youre ready for zoom calls. i love the design of this laptop, the way the screen lift the keyboard to provide and support for airflow was such a great design idea, the keyboard feels great as well for me it felt premium. theres also a finger print reader, which i never use, but if youre into that its there just another extra feature to have. the other part about this 2 in 1 laptop is that the screen is full touch control, you can flip the screen 180 degrees and treat as a tablet. windows also have a setting for full tablet mode that you can select, it doesnt come with any stylus pen, not all pen works on all touch screen so you would probably need one that was made by Dell. ive use the tablet mode alot during my live stream, the size of this 14'" laptop was perfect fit for my table, i was able to placed it right in the middle to be as my third monitor during stream, ive used the tablet mode to watch my stream and chat , or wacthing movies through my Vudu account. overall the durability seem fine, doesnt feel like it will break easy, flipping to tablet mode doesnt feel great. it does not flip flushed on the back side of the body but i believe its for airflow. the weight wasnt that heavy its perfect weight and it feels premium as it should be.

    Both Capable and Convenient

Thanks to this laptop, I am completely sold on the folding 2-in-1 tablet/laptop yoga functionality. Being able to fold the laptop into a tablet is hugely convenient for watching YouTube, or playing games on the couch. And, the ability to fold the laptop backwards into an “A” shape reduces its footprint enough to allow me to watch videos anywhere. It fits where the traditional laptop cannot and it stands up in places where a tablet would need a kickstand (which never works as well as intended). For convenience, this laptop is incredible. The formfactor is light, thin, easy to hold and carry with only one hand. It truly is the sweet spot where a smartphone, tablet, and laptop all come together into one capable and convenient device. The solid state drive makes booting up incredibly fast. Seriously, once you experience how quickly it powers on and boots up, you will never go back to a standard hard drive. The extra cost of a Solid State Hard Drive is completely worth it. I also truly love the fingerprint reader that is built into the power button. It is the absolute fastest way to log in and makes it easy for multiple users to access their own account quickly. Unlocking your own profile is almost instant by just lighting resting your finger on the button - it is quite impressive. Not only is scanning a finger quick, but it is much more consistent and reliable when compared to unlocking via facial recognition. Fingerprint scanning has been around for years, but HP & Microsoft really got it right on this laptop. While this laptop is impressive, I do have a few complaints. - I really do not like that the up and down arrow keys are half the size of a standard key. The split key makes navigation a bit cumbersome at times. - The laptop comes with a fair amount of bloatware. The harddrive has plenty of space, but the computer is always popping up messages about updating special software, running HP programs, or signing up for various other features. - The keys are completely flat (no contour at all) - The fans are impressively quiet, but the bottom still becomes quite hot - The metal lid feels quality but attracts fingerprints (see attached pictures) - The computer brags about AMD RYZEN series 7 and AMD RADEON Graphics, but the fancy foil stickers are just for show and the laptop is not suitable for any substantial gaming. Much of what you’ll find on Steam requires more power than what this laptop can deliver. ...But, it can handle ROBLOX - so my son gives it a pass. - There are not enough input ports. I appreciate the MicroUSB Card reader, but just 2 USB and 1 USB-C input is simply not enough - Especially as the USB-C port is how the laptop charges. The one lone USB-C port does allow for the transfer of displayport / video signal, but it is required for the charging. The logical solution is to attach a USB-C hub, but when the Power Cable is attached a hub - the laptop displays error messages about insufficient power. Either the power brick/cord that comes with the laptop should be more powerful, or there should be a separate USB-C port exclusively for charging. Overall I believe that this laptop offers great value as it is an impressive balance of power, convenience, and affordability. Those who require intense graphical and processing capabilities (for gaming, animation, or video editing) may want to look elsewhere, but the average user will be delighted with the features, functionality and convenience.
