Great Hybrid Door/Window Sensor, needs Haven
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review was written based on its use with the SmartCamera, SmartSensors and the Haven monitoring service. The SmartSensor specifically designed for doors and windows is a great piece of hardware for the sole purpose of helping ensure nobody enters your home without permission. A motion sensor is built into the main body to detect movement; the magnet piece helps determine if a door is opened. When monitoring is set to armed (stay or away), these sensors are actively monitoring and will send push notifications. The notification will announce which sensors were triggered and (if equipped) will allow you to tap into a camera live feed. Mounting is rather simple with the use of double-sided tape. I don't think there is an option to screw them down if you feel that the adhesive will fail at some point. It seemed very secure. So what complaints do I really have? It’s the service subscription required to run this thing. In order to receive activity detection notifications from these sensors, you’ll have to pay for the Haven service. Other home monitoring/security solutions provide entry notifications as a free-to-use; most of the time, you’re really paying for cloud space to store recorded videos. But to pay for notifications is a bit much. I’d say that if you’re already deep into the ecobee ecosystem, namely the thermostat and SmartSensors, then it’s a natural progression to pay for the Haven service. For the rest of us, it may be a good idea to look elsewhere for a home monitoring solution.

Get the full Ecobee thermostat to use these
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll first say that the cool thing about Ecobee’s design is that it takes out the typical keypad codes and even the app (though they have one available) when dealing with the system. These door sensors seem to be a really crucial part of the whole ecobee system. Nonetheless, I do have my usually pros and cons and I would definitely consider these when buying: PROS Installation was super easy with just removing a sticker and syncing the QR code Notification if when a door or window is opened is sent to your phone (or thermostat if you have it) Alerts you when a door is left open Good adhesive; sticks and stays well to doors and windows CONS You must have the ecobee Thermostat WITH built-in speaker to hear the chime in the house (I didn’t know that) Ecobee doesn’t offer the wifi speakers that some other companies offer so you can hear the chime all around your house, not just on your phone So they are great quality all in all, but not really worth it if you don’t have the thermostat with a built-in speaker so be sure to get that if you get an ecobee system. Since I did not have one, and the thermostat with the speaker is VERY expensive ($249), I was not pleased.

Entry and motion alert all-in-one for Ecobee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Adding to the Ecobee Smart Thermostat ecosystem, introducing SmartSensors (2-pack) for Doors and Windows, $80. Already a happy customer, my ecobee SmartThermostat works hard to keep my home comfortable the year round. This new sensor kit adds value to my investment by monitoring a pair of doors and windows and alerting to their opening, indicating possible intrusion. Take the product tour on the Best Buy Website. Click the link “Interactive Tour and documents” on this product’s page at BestBuy.com. As easy to add to the system and set up as are the other add-ons from Ecobee, these sensors stand as sentinels. As simple as set-and-forget, Doors and Windows sensors communicate with the base, the ecobee SmartThermostat on the hall wall in my home. Creative users might find value by also installing these sensors on other doors where opening and closing monitoring is desired. Door to/from the attached garage? Fridge and freezer? Wine fridge? Deep freeze? Medicine cabinet? Your choice! These sensors are similar to most other magnetic contact-type door and window sensors in that one side is attached to the stationary door or window frame and the other to the moving part next to the stationary part. Magnetic attraction when present shows the door or window is closed. Opening the door interrupts the magnetic pairing, triggering an alert notification. And there is an additional feature. Part of ecobee’s home monitoring system called Haven, these sensors send notifications and alerts when a sensored door or window is opened or closed, AND when motion is detected nearby. Door and Window sensors are powered by an installed, replaceable CR2477 battery and provide up to three years of operating time. Lower battery life is expected when more motion is sensed over time. Haven is a monthly subscription-based service and is required for these sensors and for ecobee SmartCameras to operate as intended. The Haven Essential plan is $5 per month and includes home monitoring + video recording (if you have the SmartCamera). An extended plan is $10 per month and includes home monitoring + video recording for unlimited cameras. Haven signup includes a free month at startup. Note that Haven is NOT connected to a central station as an alarm system. If a SmartCamera is part of the installation, there is both live video and 2-way audio available as well as a loud siren that can be activated in the SmartCamera through the app. Cool stuff! Ecobee SmartSensors for Doors and Windows are part of an expanding ecobee ecosystem of Alexa-controlled devices and come with the standard ecobee three-year warranty.

Ecobee Haven may be what I switch to permanently
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried multiple alarm monitoring solutions and the fact that this is an all in one with my thermostat and temperature sensors gives it a full package feeling. These sensors are very simple to join to your Ecobee eco system just like the smart temperature sensors. They come with a QR code you scan from the app, pull the battery tab out and the app will pair your sensor. One thing that separates these door/window sensors from the rest is they have a built-in motion sensor. I have over 100 smart devices in my home and until this I have not witnessed a door/window sensor with a built-in motion sensor. Its truly 2 devices in one. I’m currently in a 1 month trial for the Ecobee Haven service which, if you purchase these sensors, I’m sure you will be using them for some sort of security purpose. I really like the Ecobee Haven service and I am very surprised I have not had 1 false alarm yet. That’s pretty impressive because when you use the autopilot mode its based on your phones location and I’ve had pretty mixed results with other services in the past. No false alarms is the one thing I’ve noticed and has stood out to me. If you are looking for some great door/window sensors, these are definitely the way to go. Like I said you’re really getting 2 devices in one with the motion sensors built in. The only con I’ve found, and this will only impact people who utilize SmartThings, this sensor for some reason isn’t found from the Ecobee smart app in SmartThings, so you cant use it with SmartThings. No stars deducted as it only impacts that particular integration and it may be that Ecobee doesn’t want you to have the ability to integrate this particular sensor in to SmartThings. Either way, it would be nice to see this possible in the future because it would essentially be 2 devices for every sensor that you could take advantage of having in SmartThings. Such a clever design, very sleek looking, very easy to setup. You absolutely cant go wrong with these sensors.

Excellent on many levels
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ecobee SmartSensor for Doors and Windows is a great addition to anyone that has the ecobee thermostat and other sensors in the house. For a small price, you can get a huge sense of security for your home. I thought it was wonderful that the setup was really easy and the app walked you through the whole process. I also thought it was a great design to make these universal in size and shape. I could use either set on a door or window. I felt our needs were best met by having these on our front door and our sliding glass patio door. A little light indicator helps you see when things are connected or open versus when the door is closed. The ecobee Haven solution helps you see right in the app whether a door or window is closed too. We tested this with the dog in the house and the comings and goings of our kids. I thought the alerts were timely and the sensors were spot on when the doors opened. Also, these are great for picking up motion too. That's a nice added bonus. My one little gripe is that we have a sensor that must have a bad adhesive on it. It appears to be wearing down even after following the directions to clean and dry the area first. I am hoping the ecobee will work with me on this. Regardless, I think this product is a great addition for home monitoring.

I like these for door & window opening detection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These sensors work well to detect the opening of doors and windows. They are self-stick and appear to be of decent quality. They are simple to install and have a very "wide gap" allowing you a decent amount of gap between the sensor and the magnet, for installation on other than flat/easy doors & windows. They detect the opening/closing of the door nearly instantly and with 100% reliability. So, for the purpose of detecting the door/window opening and closing, this gets an A+. An added bonus on these is the built in motion detector at the bottom on the sensor - the round part is a motion detector that will assist in detecting movement around the sensor. These are designed to be installed at the top of the door and they will detect motion underneath the sensor. It isn't a room based motion detector, just right around the door. The concern I have with this feature is that it doesn't go off each time it detects motion. It only goes off from time to time, and this is likely to conserve battery power since they are powered with a small battery that would not last if it detected motion constantly in a busy area. Since this is an added feature, I would consider it a bonus, but not count on it as a 100% "for sure" type thing. I am deducting 1 star because of it. The smart sensor for doors and windows is good at detecting opening and closing of doors and windows. With that said, they did a great job with this detector and the installation could not be easier since it is rather small and will fit many installations without any second thought on how to do. Hopefully the stick on tape lasts, there is no way to secure it with a screw, which I would want to do if it were possible, so in 3 or 4 years of with the change of seasons the tape doesn't break free and the detector falls off.

Subscription Required; Perfect otherwise
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The door and window sensors overall are incredibly easy to set up with an ecobee thermostat. The only issue that I have to say is that you require an ecobee protection plan to use them at all, which is really unfortunate and inconvenient and personally didn’t work out well for me. If you are paying for the monthly protection plan and they are great perfect and alert you when windows are open to control your AC and heat to turn off automatically and to go ahead and send you quick alerts with a very easy to use keypad without putting more holes in the wall or choosing other professional services.

Didn't Know How Much I'd Like It
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product at the same time as my Ecobee smart thermostat. I cannot overstate the peace of mind it gives me to know when doors into my home are being opened and closed. They detect motion when my home security is armed and somehow still provide information to the smart thermostat from over 50 feet away. I will be buying more for my windows soon!

Must have accessory for the Ecobee camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With any of these home security systems, door/window sensors are a must have in my opinion. The camera is nice however having these sensors adds that extra bit of security for the home. I have a sensor mounted to my front door and my camera facing my windows. With this setup, I get total coverage in my condo. Whenever the door is opened I get notifications and, should anyone try to break into my window, I got the camera looking right at it. A necessary accessory for any home security system.

Good but could be better
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ecobee accessories are not easy to connect. They have required multiple resets before they sync to the system. Once connect they are great. I like their multifunction capability. A little expensive for what they are.

Good
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were told that this was just a sensor but turns out that you have to have a subscription to have it notify you on your phone. It’s not a bad product whatsoever, it was just not what we were looking for as a door sensor for our pool inspection.

Lag on motion detection
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These work great as door sensors but not so great if motion or occupancy is your primary objective. I tried to use these for home automation because I already had a thermostat and didn’t want another hub. I ended up returning them and going with Philips hue motion sensors which are very precise for motion.

Handy little accessories.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ecobee has some great stuff! This is one of them. It communicates with your Ecobee thermostat and if a door or window is open for longer than 5 minutes, it will turn off AC/Heater until door/window is closed. It has an occupancy sensor and super easy to install.
