This projector will definitely be in the way . It didn’t connect to my JBL Bluetooth speaker When using the hdmi arc port to connect to my surround sound the voice would come and go and I did everything to trouble shoot it chandelier cord resetting etc. which I had bought it for those reasons. Pic is good , apps are fast but couldn’t find Netflix. The built in speaker is good . Portable

Horrendous 120ms input lag. Not for gaming.

    Posted .

I needed a screen projected up on ceiling so that I can play video games while laying down on my bed, and Epson EF12 delivers a lot of attractive features for that: short throw ratio of 1.00:1, very quiet fan noise, compact and aesthetically pleasing looks, HDMI CEC function, smart phone screen mirroring with built-in Chromecast, laser lamps that ensures long life span of the projector, and high contrast ratio with very vibrant colors. Epson got almost everything right for millennials with small apartment EXCEPT there is one major flaw; a very noticeable input lag of around 120ms. It means I won't be able to make that leap of faith because the response is too slow. It's a real shame because EF12 is one of the rare projectors that actually recommends vertical mount on the wall, too. I believe this could have been the go-to projector for several years to come, if only it didn't have that horrendous input lag. I left the same review on Amazon with a video clip showing the input lag.

I'll say this up front: I wanted to love this projector and I do, but only because I bought a non-Google-TV stick to make it work. I'm going to get a lot of use out of the hardware, but I simply can't use this projector without that add-on brain. With that said, on to the detailed review: Image: Bright, clear projection at 1080p without a flaw. I absolutely LOVE the auto-focus and distortion correction. Point it at a surface and push the image correction button and it goes to work projecting a white rectangle, then a series of fuzzy dots... and then you magically have a perfectly straight, bright projection in tack-sharp focus. It's genius and I've never seen anything like it! Sound: The Yamaha sound system on top of this projector is wonderful! Small and not good for a lot of full bass, it nevertheless made for an immersive audio experience for every blockbuster movie I put through it. For something this size, it's another remarkable experience. Fan noise is well-controlled and unobtrusive. Ports: Two HDMI ports (one with ARC), USB-A (power or thumb drive), mini-USB and a headphone jack round out the list of ports. There's also the lock slot if you want to keep your projector where it is and the required power port. Everything works and you'll want to reserve an HDMI port and use that USB-A port to power the stick you're almost certainly going to want to use (see below). Controls: The buttons on the top of this projector (power, image-off, bluetooth, volume up and down) are sturdy and responsive. The remote (with one exception) is full-featured and well-made. Seriously, though... there's no mute button?! If you want to mute the device, you can pause the source, sure... or hold the volume down button until things get quiet... or ask Google to mute the projector... but no mute button. You have options, yes, but sometimes you just want to push mute. Maybe I'm just old, but you will never catch me having a conversation with my remote control. Google TV: Which brings me to the real problem: Google TV. Want to watch Netflix? No. The Netflix app isn't compatible with this (or apparently most Google-TV devices). Want to watch an HD movie on Vudu? No. There's something with the DRM that forces everything to SD. Apple TV app? That's never going to happen. If you want to watch something on Hulu or Google TV/YouTube, you're good, but that's pretty much it without relying on a separate device. Construction: As I've said, the physical construction of this projector is top-notch. The height-adjustable leg in front is sturdy and slides down easily. The entire boxy shape is sturdy, right down to the faux-leather-stamped plastic housing. I wouldn't ever chance it on purpose but I do feel like, if I did accidentally drop it one day, there's a chance it might actually survive a fall from table-height. The bottom line is this: I would recommend this projector without hesitation... as long as you had no intention of ever using the on-board Google TV to run it. Plug in a streaming device of your choice, aim it in the general direction of a screen, push the magic video adjustment button and don't look back.

If you are a gamer look for a different projector. There is no game mode and no other way to reduce the input lag on this projector. It's 120+ ms so when you press a button there is a very noticable delay before it responds on the projected image. Now if you are looking for just a great portable projector to watch movies and TV then this thing is outstanding. No rainbow effect because it's laser instead of dlp. The color accuracy and contrast are phenominal. Only issue i saw was the reds can be a little washed out sometimes but mostly look great. Plenty of image settings to customize to how you like it. Bluetooth and google tv work great. Solid fast connection and did not experience any buffering. Hdr can be finicky and doesnt really seem to make any difference. I ended up returning because of the input lag issue but otherwise its an awesome little projector.

It’s easy to setup and connect to WiFi. The picture is sharp and sound is fair. When on sale it’s a good deal, but mainly for watching sports and playing video games. I could not install nor download my primary streaming app Netflix. At night it looks great, but a bit vague or not bright enough during the day with blinds shut. Might be better in a room with black out curtains. I could not cast from IPhone nor Android.

I was so excited to buy this projector, I’ve owned several in the past and loved that you don’t have to replace a bulb and it has built in Chrome cast and Android TV. It also has the ability to auto adjust to your screen just by placing it in front of the screen!! That’s where my excitement ended. It’s not licensed for Netflix so you cannot natively download the App or Cast to it. The whole purpose of buying this was so I didn’t have to plug in a streaming device. I returned this I was so disappointed. And Best Buy has a 15% restocking fee on this item. Don’t buy if you want native Netflix until that’s resolved.

After looking at several brands since December, finally saw the RF12 on sale at Best Buy and special seem to have all the features, so we made purchase. Salesman said the speaker that came with unit weren't very good so he also sold me a Sony Bluetooth speaker. When I unboxed found out because the comes with speaker it doesn't have the ability to connect other speakers and although it has HDY it doesn't work with 4K. Depending what you will use it for my recommendation spend a little more money and get the good ones or just get the $400 models that can connect external speakers and have 4K ability for alot less money.

I will say with recent updates this projector got a lot better. Initially I was having difficulty with projection screen location, then there was an update that allows you to zoom and move the entire screen. Picture quality is excellent, still having issues connecting with my samsung soundbar. Overall not to bad, still great for movie night!

The picture quality is excellent. It's a little dim on my 120" inch screen but it's great when it's dark. The screen adjustments need to be readjusted nearly everytime i turn it on (widthx height) . The auto correction worked until it did a firmware update. No longer works. It has a feature after the update that let's you Adjust the screen size, but it overcasts light beyond the maximum adjustment of the picture which is annoying. It does not have Netflix which is very strange since this is an all in one device. Honestly if i bought another projector I'd save some money and go with the ef-11. The speaker is nice but if you want a theater experience you'll be left wanting more bass and true sorround sound. If your looking for a portable device this is ok, but no Netflix is a definite bummer.

It’s good but it doesn’t come with airplay so that’s a con. The quality is really good but if you want airplay then I recommend to get a roku stick and you can use it with the projector and if works amazing. I would still get it.

I don’t like that you can’t adjust the size unless you move it further away from the screen. Also, for the smart capabilities you can get every streaming app, but Netflix. In order to watch Netflix, you either have to cast, or use the PS5/Xbox like I did.

great projector but good luck if you lose the controller like i did. I was renovating my house and i lost the remote. They dont have replacements or universal controllers. Otherwise id give this a perfect 5 but without parts being in stock this is pretty much paperweight if anything gets lost or damaged.

I absolutely love the functionality of this item. The one big flaw I have is that you have adjust the screen every time you cut it on and if you pick it up while it is on while trying to adjust it. The projector just cuts off. Others than that I love it. Functionality and size are absolutely perfect.
