The Refined, Definitive Dungeon Crawler

If you're looking for a well polished, highly customizable dungeon crawler, then you've found it. Etrian Odyssey has always been a refined love letter to the tabletop & 8-bit dungeon crawler yet ATLUS has managed to refine the classes further, improve already spectacular dungeon design, and most importantly: make combat feel even more strategic rather than formulaic.
For newcomers who might be wary of a game whose sole purpose is gameplay over story; this is the definitive first step you should take into this little appreciated world. You will not get better this out there. For newcomers who love the genre, but haven't played Etrian Odyssey, I recommend Etrian Odyssey IV because I think it will be too hard to go back after the refinements of V.
And for series regulars: this is the final game, as far as we are aware. And it is, in my opinion, the best game in the series. I'm sad that this is the end but couldn't be happier that ATLUS really cared enough to give us their best.

Ok, I picked this game up at my BB when it was open at the first minute. Can't wait to play it. If you know who ATLUS is, or you have played previous ones, you already know whether this game is yours or not. Classic RPG elements, like classes, skills and UI and its gameplay friendly hooked me up for hours. The launch edition is worth the price, the amazing OST will be playing in my car for a while.

Fans of the series will enjoy this entry. The core gameplay remains the same but many quality of life changes make the game smoother and more immersive. Newcomers may find the game difficult at first, but learning from your mistakes is critical to overcoming the challenges the game presents.

Listen to my words, if you have any interest in this series, you are doing yourself a disservice not picking up this title. I'd even go as a far to call it quintessential.
Now if you haven't dipped your toes into the vast Etrian ocean, don't be afraid to start here either. The game is very much an RPG of old, where you are solely in control of your path and progression of the story. You start by making a team of adventurers from a wide arrange of races and classes, you name them, grow attach to them and send them out to the labyrinth.
But beware! Exploring is not for the faint of heart. Within the labyrinth you are in charge of charting your own course through the winding expanses, each and every turn and mystery are solely up to you to document. Live or die by your map!

A Return to the Etrian Series Roots

Etrian Odyssey 5 represents somewhat of a return to the core game play of the Etrian Series. Gone is the overworld of 3 and 4 in favor a straight series of dungeon floors. At the same time it expands on the customizability of your party to an extent beyond that of previous games. You'll eventually unlock the ability to use any combination or race, class, and portrait for a truly flexible party building system. Fans of the series will find a lot to like about 5 and those unsure should definitely check out the free demo on the eShop which allows you explore the first few floors of the dungeon and then carry you progress into the main game.

Probably the premier dungeon crawling game. Great music, cool new classes, interesting maps. If you want an RPG to properly reward your brain power and want to challenge you from start to finish, you want this game.

As a big fan of the EO series, there are a lot of things that annoy me with this one. It's the dungeon crawling game you know and love but some of the enemy setups will cause you to game over pretty much purely based on RNG. EO is known to be brutal at times but it seems a little unfair in some circumstances.

If you're a long time fan, you'll love this game. The addition of camping and food preparation makes exploration fun. New classes and abilities are great. Finding synergies between classes is awesome.

I'm really not sure I can do this game justice in the short area that I'm given, but just know that the game is phenomenal. If you're interested enough to read this review, then do yourself a favor and buy it, you won't regret it.

In all honesty, I was a bit surprised at how much fun this came turned out...and I've only been on the first level so far XD
The fact that you get to customize your characters, the map itself and even walk into scenarios that your party get to 'interact'-sometimes turns out funny, sometimes giving you extra loot, or fighting extra monsters....seriously. As someone who plays alot of Pokemon, and recently just completely Ever Oasis, this is another fun game to add on the play list!

I love when devs drop games with collectibles, especially for nintendo consoles. Nice art book and OST included.
The game is definitely fun. Wouldnt recommend for younger audiences since it might be confusing/hard to work their way through the dungeons. Would recommend, especially if you like the Persona Q games but never tried Etrian yet!

I have never heard of this series, but I wish I had. This is exactly the type of dungeon crawler I've been looking for. No real story, you and your friends are just adventurers out to venture. Gonna put a lot of hours into this one.

I love playing games in the Etrian Odyssey series. Dungeon crawling is at its best once again with this title, and it's very similar in style to the previous game in the series on the 3DS. And like all Atlus games, make sure to purchase the "launch edition" since the packaging is different and you'll receive extra goodies as well.

Here's a game destined to appeal to the lizard brain of Type-A personalities, to people who love to line up details and see everything slowly take shape. It offers enormous customization; fresh challenges both inside and out of combat; a setting rich with things to do besides simply fight; and best of all, that addictive mapping feature. With each line you draw on the in-game map, you bring a tiny bit more order to chaos and transform the unknown into the familiar. Etrian Odyssey 5 isn't simply the best game in its own franchise, it's easily the richest and most satisfying dungeon crawler to appear in the past decade.

Etrian Odyssey 5 in some ways returns to the roots of the series while adding some newer elements to the EO5. The new job classes add some variety to how you build your team. The monsters and dungeons look better than ever. This is one lost great rpgs that will coming to the 3ds.
