Does the job
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had to buy thos model as it's the only one i could find that matched my appliances. Slate. The price was right so i bit. Installation was a breeze. The brackets fit onto the cabinets and the unit lined up perfectly. At 19 lbs, you may want a second set of hands. The wiring was simple, and had plenty of room to do the work. Baffle is included as is mounting hardware. Adapter for verticle vent is also included, i needed rear exhaust so i cannot say how well that works but it's definitely sturdy. The plastic block plate that you need to swap in to make it exhaust instead of recirculate is a weird fit when unit is already hung, so either do the swap prior to installation or just drop the shroud surrounding the fan and put it in then. It has tabs that it must be locked in or it is going to wobble and bleed air. The grease screens fit securely, and they supposedly can be machine washed, I'm not sure how confident i would be with the plastic tabs not breaking. The unit itself isn't exactly flimsy, but is subject to the vibrations caused by the fan. The lights definitely wiggle on the boost setting. Hopefully this won't affect bulb life. The lighting is halogen bulbs, so it gives a warm lighting effect. The bulbs have high and low setting. Both get darned hot. I would prefer a white LED both for light output and heat diminishing, but have not researched into what that would take at this point. The fan itself has 4 settings. Low, medium, high, and boost. I measured the noise with a phone app from about 2 feet away, basically where i stand to cook and they are as follows: Low-38 decibels. Medium-45 decibels. High-56 decibels. Boost-59 decibels. The suction power of the fan is superior to the 20 year old broan unit it's replacing. It definitely reduces smoke and cooking smells, so it is working well in that regard. As others have mentioned, the fan is positioned to the left side, so suction is focused there. Pros: •simple assembly •inexpensive •it works well Cons. •pretty loud •hot halogen lights In conclusion, I'm happy with the unit itself, but if i ever redo the kitchen, i will be upgrading to a different type of hood fan.

Not perfect but works well
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spot welds along the top edges result in shallow but large indentations in the steel. That's only really noticeable when the light reflects off it, but it seems like a problem that shouldn't be there at all. See photo. The whole thing came with the standard plastic film to protect the metal. What was unexpected was the marks it left on the metal (see photo). That took a lot of cleaner and elbow grease to get rid of. Fan on left side works OK. I'm have it installed about 23" over the cook top, so it vents well from all the burners. I can see if you have it mounted a lot closer to the cooktop, you might have problems venting from the right side burners. As others mentioned, the halogen lights get hot. Not sure why anyone still uses those instead of LEDs these days. But that is what is in the description, so can't fault it for that. However, they don't light the cook top evenly - back burners are where I need more light, but they have much less than the front ones. Overall seems a little over priced considering welding and cleanup issues, plus it doesn't include charcoal filters

Well the lights work
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have it installed as a ventless over a range. Even when it’s on high it doesn’t suction any air into the filters. As a matter of fact, it feels like the fan is blowing down not drawing air up. See the flame being blown when held up to the fan and the smoke not going up just staying around the napkin when held down by the cooktop. All recommendations for distance were followed. It’s worse when you put in the charcoal filter. Don’t waste your money, we’ll be buying a different one. The lights work well.

Typical Hood Range.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not you top of the line or special in any kind. The only reason I went with this one is because I wanted to match my other appliances and get rid of the microwave. The fan on this unit works, however like many other consumers reported issues with light not working, well I am one of them too. I attempted changing the light bulbs from one to another and still didn’t work, so it’s the wiring inside. Another knock down is that the metal trim that goes around the light came rusted. Unit was delivered on 12/30/2019

Junk! 5 Reasons why this isn't good
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this hood vent to exhaust the air outside the house, not to recirculate the air inside the house with filters. This hood vent has both options. Here are the reasons why I hate this hood vent: 1) They include a flimsy little plastic to cover the air opening for the inside-the-house recirculation. By covering this opening, it directs the air towards the exhaust. They include a cheap flimsy plastic piece of junk that doesn't even attach on properly. After one month it snapped off. This is a design problem, and trust me, I'm an engineer. But even if you aren't, it is obvious to any person that this part doesn't fit the opening well. I remedied this by sealing the opening with duct tape and it works much better than plastic junk. But I shouldn't have to do this. How difficult is it to manufacture an accessory that fits snug?! This is a major appliance made by GE, not some 50 cent toy that breaks after a month. Refer to the picture. 2) When using the fan on full blast, the lights vibrate too much which gets really annoying. When you're trying to cook food, you see the lights wobbling back and forth on the range and fry pan, which makes it really distracting. 3) The fan is placed on the left side of the hood, not the center. Since I'm right handed, I cook most of my food on the right burner of my cooktop. This prevents all of the food smoke and grease from getting 100% exhausted. The whole point of spending hundreds of dollars for ductwork was so that I could exhaust all of the smoke. This product is so bad that it can't even do the sole function that it was made to do properly. Refer to the picture and see how the grease marks are only on the left side. 4) The fan is too noisy. BestBuy says it's 7 decibels. No it's not! Maybe 70? But regardless, I knew it couldn't be 7, but still, it's just too noisy. 5) They use halogen lights which gets hot and heats up your face while you cook. I wouldn't mind if it's hot and could be used as a food warmer, but its too far away from the cooktop, and too close to your head/face. Why couldn't they just use LED lights to save electricity and not have heat?

In love with my kitchen
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently upgraded my kitchen with the GE 30" Convertible Range Hood in Stainless Steel, and let me tell you, it's become my kitchen's new superhero! Firstly, the stainless steel finish gives my kitchen a fresh and modern vibe, making it feel like a whole new cooking haven. Cleaning up after those messy family dinners is a breeze – just a quick wipe, and it sparkles like new. Now, let's talk performance. This range hood is a true champion when it comes to clearing out all those cooking scents and steam. It's like having a breath of fresh air in the heart of my home. The fan has different speeds, so I can adjust it based on what's cooking, and the bright lights underneath are like a spotlight for my culinary adventures. Installation was surprisingly mom-friendly – no complicated steps that required a science degree! Plus, it operates quietly, so I can keep an ear out for the kids while preparing our family meals. In a nutshell, the GE 30" Convertible Range Hood is not just an appliance; it's become my trusty kitchen sidekick. It adds that extra touch of style and functionality, making every meal prep a delight. Highly recommended for all the kitchen-loving moms out there! Cheers,

Left Side works Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The fan assembly is on the left side leaving little to no exhaust on the right side. It is also to close to the filter so all the air goes through one spot. The unit comes with halogen lights that work fine but get hot. I would recommend changing them out to LED, if not eventually when you goto change the bulb the plastic housing will crumble. The stainless steel shell is built well.

Posted .Thanks for sharing your feedback about the exhaust, that we'll be sure to forward to the design team. We recommend that you use the light bulb that's included with the hood because this is how we've tested/approved the use of this unit. We appreciate you being part of the GE Appliances family.

Cord was hard to find if your not direct wiring
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This did not come with a cord. Called parts and they said they didn't make the cord anymore. Called GE appliances and they had the cord we could purchase. How do you sell a product that you don't make the cord for anymore? We didn't have the option to hard wire. The item itself is quite nice. Its a nice size, quiet and easy to use. The lights are bright but get hot. Once we got the cord we were happy with the purchase.

Strong blower
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this works well. My biggest complaint is that it does not include a charcoal filter. The filter is only necessary if you are not venting it to the outside. Neither Best Buy nor anyone else had them in stock. In fact you can only get them from GE. GE won't ship them fast either so it was a good two weeks before I could use the hood properly. That was my biggest complaint

Great hood
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this hood so much! Extremely quiet even on the high setting. I love the dimmable lights, however I wish they were a cooler white color, will be switching them out. I also wish this came with the charcoal filter, had to purchase separately and it makes a huge difference! Overall though extremely happy with this purchase!

Excellent
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After hunting for a new range hood to replace the prehistoric range hood in our kitchen, my wife and I couldn't be happier with this product. Well lit and a powerful fan helps cut down on cooking smells that might otherwise overwhelm our kitchen.

It does the job...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wish it was more substantial, and that the screen didn't keep falling out. Otherwise, it does the job of finishing a space and providing light in a ventless kitchen.

Great hood after minor/easy fix - fan adjustment
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great once you get the bugs worked out. Installation was simple enough but after turning it on the first time the fan was making a horrible noise. Had to take it back down to figure out the problem - the squirrel-cage fan was rubbing on the motor mount bracket above it. The fan is held on the motor shaft with a concentric friction clamp/nut, and if the nut isn't tightened enough the fan can slide up the shaft - and hit the motor mount. Simple solution is loosen the nut and slide the fan a very small amount down the shaft so it no longer rubs, and tighten the nut back down. Unfortunately this is not mentioned in the troubleshooting guide, which it absolutely should be since it is common in the reviews. Happy with it now that I've fixed it.
