Can I buy a pixel, please? Holy terrible video, Batman. It’s like they went out of their way to emulate crappy gas station security cameras in place of their near perfect previous model. I look forward to returning it, but I hope I can find the old model somewhere ASAP.

I bought this doorbell Oct of 2023 .. at first I liked it but now it’s Jan of 2024 and it’s been a headache.. it was an easy install but every time my power goes out or I have to reset my WiFi the doorbell goes offline and I ave to unscrew it from the wall mount just to press the reset button, so it can reconnect… it’s annoying because I have to use the special Allen wrench, the notch is close to the wall where you can’t make a full turn so it’s a bunch of little turns to get the screw out to wiggle the doorbell out of place. Use something small to press the reset button, then put it all back together. I have the battery doorbell as well and I don’t have this problem, it’ll automatically connects when the Wi-Fi connects back.

The only thing good about this doorbell is the installation is updated and easier than the Gen 1. This doorbell constantly disconnects from Wi-Fi. At least 3 times a day for me. Have even installed a Wi-Fi extender to no avail. Also forces you to use google home app, which is overly complicated. Would not recommend at all. stick with Gen 1

    Product with misleading power requirement.

The doorbell does well in term of camera, control from the APP and all the feature that comes with it. But, it is not recommended for those who decide to purchase based on the power voltage requirement specified by Google as it is misleading. Its requirement and compatibility specify: 16 to 24 V AC and 10 to 40 VA. However despite its minimum is 16 V AC and 10 VA, the actual installation doesn't work with this power requirement. It works by replacing the transformer 16 V AC to 30 VA. which seems the minimum requirement. To learn this had to spend several days figuring out, and rule out defect of the device, then spending extra $$ to replace the transformer. If I would have known that the requirement minimum was 16 V AC 30 VA, could have bought another brand that is compatible with existing power and save time , stress and unnecessarily spent replacing the transformer. Then, it makes worst the customer service that doesn't recognize it is misleading requirement information. Instead with its arrotgancy the reply I received was that it is specified minimum 16 to 24 V AC and 10 to 40 VA while I am telling them iit doesn’t/ Furthermore, having done some online research from which I learned its is a known problem that most of whom bought it had to replace the transformer or even in some cases didn’t work at all. If you have 16V AC 10 VA, turn away to different brand, otherwise will end up spending more money and time and stress down the road for the probability that might not work. Now from usage stand point, when there is notification of alert popup on the mobile phone, and tap it, the application works quite out of acceptable duration to display the recording, As result, I need to exit the Google Home App, open it again, tap the doorbelll, the identify in History then go to Full history. So here are already 5 actions at least, that if there is urgent matter which require immediate view of video make late and that doesn’t seem good way for emergency response for home security.

Despite the Nest logo on the box, this doorbell is not Nest App compatible. Bit frustrated but understand Google likes doing things their way similar to the Fitbit fiasco. The doorbell works and has great image quality despite the incompatibility. If you use Google home or not in the Nest ecosystem, this doorbell is for you.

Don't get me wrong I like Google products, but got this hooked up and working and after a couple days started going off line. After a few hours would go back online. This is the only product that would go off line out of all my other security Cams. As of 7-21-23 it went off line and hasn't come back on line. Some of the reviews had the same problem.

This is the worst Google/Nest product they make. It’s laggy and has gone offline a dozen or so times in the 6 months I’ve had it. The pulldown notifications don’t actually show the camera and it takes 30-60 seconds for it to load if the doorbell rings at which point the person has left. I like the way it looks and that’s why it’s getting two stars instead of one.

Hi there, JBG117. Thanks for sharing your feedback on your Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). We apologize for the frustrating experience you've had. We understand how important it is for your doorbell camera to function reliably. The lag, offline periods, and slow loading times you're experiencing are less than ideal. Hello there, Craig. Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the doorbell’s angle or field of view, and using the Home app to manage and control your doorbell, are below your preferences.

We understand that having a wider camera view can be ideal for you. However, unlike some other video doorbells, Nest Doorbell (battery) has a 145° diagonal field of view at 3:4 aspect ratio. It is intended so you can see people from head to toe, and packages left on the ground.

Also, our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

If you need assistance with using the Nest doorbell effectively in the Google Home app, feel free to contact us anytime here and we’ll definitely help you the best way we can: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi there, Attique. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. It's unfortunate to hear that you're seeing black spots on the video feed from your Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd Gen).

Over time, your video doorbell may collect dust, pollen, water spots, and other types of debris from its outdoor environment. Although Nest doorbells are designed to withstand the elements, there are cases where these factors may cause some spots and stains to build up on the lens of Nest doorbell. You can easily remove these stains by moistening a soft cloth with a little water and gently wipe the lens clean and wipe down the body. You could also use a drop of cleaning solution that’s made for cameras, eyeglasses, and other optics. You can then dry it up by gently wiping your camera’s lens and body with a soft, lint-free cloth. You can use compressed air to blow dust and particles off.

If cleaning doesn't help remove the black spots, we recommend contacting our support team for further assistance with issue here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Promising but falls short with performance/support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was excited to upgrade my old traditional doorbell with this one when purchasing my home a year ago. It looked sleek, installed well, and the alerts were pretty accurate. I had no complaints for the first few months until winter came. Suddenly, the device was plagued with battery/power issues (despite being hard-wired). In below-freezing temps, the device would often go hours at a time without being able to record footage. I reached out to Google support, who told me this is inherent in the design of the doorbell; ultimately, it is a battery-powered device that periodically charges itself by pulsing the chime wiring. At certain cold temperatures, the battery simply cannot hold a charge/charge quickly enough, thus the hard wiring claim is misleading. I was surprised to hear Google Support admit this so freely. I chose the hardwired model specifically because I need constant recording given the area I live in. Google Support's parting advice was to temper my expectations in cold weather (which is a third of the year where I live)--and that they were very sorry to hear of my difficulty, of course! Then, recently the doorbell was ripped off and stolen from its mount. I learned Google offers replacements for stolen devices and was thankful to hear this. I did everything requested of me: filed and received copy of police report for the incident, kept the device registered to my Google account, saved final footage, etc. After half an hour of submitting my case to Google Support, I received a message informing me that I would NOT be receiving a replacement doorbell, given that the submitted police report mentioned the doorbell being damaged rather than stolen, which technically is considered customer-inflicted damage and not theft by Google. Wait, what?! Why wasn't this advertised in the procedures for requesting a replacement? I had problems with another Google camera device and received similarly unhelpful/disappointing support. Google Support's mantra might best be described as "Our default is to shift blame as much as possible, but we're very sorry to hear about your problem!" If Google won't stand by this expensive product that is subject to so many types of damage, I'm not going to waste my energy and money replacing it, only to be disappointed by it again. If cold temperatures and theft are concerns, I'd recommend considering a hardwired camera near the doorway instead.

    Inferior software to previous generation

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

For owners of a 1st gen doorbell looking to upgrade, this is a warning so that you don't have unpleasant surprises. The software/cloud features of this doorbell are inferior to the 1st gen version. In short: • There is no more video library. If you want to save clips, you must download them and store them somewhere. You no longer have quick, date-sorted access to all your important clips, stored in the cloud. You must manage all that yourself. • You can NOT create arbitrary clips from your video. You can only save pre-created clips that the camera selects based on what it sees in the camera. If it didn't pick something up but you want to save a clip of it, too bad. • Downloaded clips do NOT contain timestamps. The old Nest software would add, as subtitles, a timestamp. This extraordinarily useful feature no longer exists. The camera itself is fine, no complaints. But the software experience is vastly inferior to the previous version. The new Google Home app, which you must use, vs the old Nest app, is simply not very good. The good news is that this is a software issue, so can be fixed without needing a new camera. The bad news is that there's no reason to think it WILL be fixed. If the software is ever upgraded to be on par with the old Nest software, then this is a 5-star camera.

Unfortunately I purchased this as a gift and there were problems with the setup/compatibility of recipients hookups. My poor review is for Best Buy’s 15 day return policy more so than the product itself. Even Amazon allows returns through the end of January for anything purchased before Christmas. I hate to order from Amazon versus a store but at least with them I could have gotten a refund.
