Landlord doesn’t maintain the property at all, so we’re forced to buy big equipment. I never thought I’d need one of these, but at least it’s smaller than a mower. So far so good. It’s decently balanced, but I’m glad it comes with the shoulder strap, because it got tiring pretty quickly. The battery charged up fast (loud process though!), and the tool is quite powerful. It’s not quiet, like people claim. Can’t use it before everyone is awake on a weekend, sadly. But it works well. I’m in a minuscule rental and there’s nowhere to put it, but the strap at least helps with storage (see picture). Love the color (yes, that matters). Thankfully, it’s not red. Or orange. ick. The adjustable handle is helpful. I do wish there were a way for it to stay powered on without having to maintain a rigid grip on the trigger. You can adjust the hand on the adjustable handle, but your hand on the trigger is somewhat stuck there, and it can become uncomfortable. Even with the shoulder strap, my thumb/grip was sore for a day after using it for barely 10 minutes, so need to work on the mechanics until it’s comfortable. Easy to assemble and clean.

I love this for cutting my overgrown grass and weeds. It's super powerful and gets the job done. I was amazed actually. It's easy to use and putting it together was easy. The strap is adjustable and together with the handle, makes for easy maneuvering.

To start, I’m 5’3 120lbs. I was looking for something that, not only had enough power but also easy for me to use. This has all the power of a gas operated one. It tackles all the weeds with ease in one sweep. The shoulder strap was the game changer for me! I was able to use it very easily. The charge holds for a good amount of time. I was able to finish both my front and back yard on the same charge! I would highly recommend this!

Line does not advance, couldn’t get casing off

I purchased this product based on the recommendation of Neighbor. Assembly was a bit challenging since the instructions were very sparse. I finally watched a video to figure out how to put it together. I used it once and saw that the line was not automatically advancing on one side when the line casing was tapped on the ground. I tried to open it up, but I couldn’t open the casing either. I then looked at other reviews and saw that goother people have had the same problem with this product. Unfortunately, they tried fixing it and realized that it didn’t get better even after restringing the line. They waited too long to return it ( beyond the 30 days). I didn’t want to make that mistake. So after trying to unsuccessfully get the casing off to see why the line would not advance, or even to restring the line,, I decided this is way too much effort. It shouldn't be this difficult.. So I returned it for a refund.

Hello GuiliZ. We are sorry to hear of the experience you are having with this Greenworks 80V String Trimmer. Proper ergonomics when holding a string trimmer can improve comfort and cut quality. Here are some tips for holding a string trimmer:
Posture: Keep the arm holding the front handle straight, while slightly bending the hand on the rear handle. This will keep the trimmer head parallel to the ground, which gives the string the most cutting contact area.
      Level: Hold the trimmer level.
Angle: When trimming against a hard surface, be flush with it. Holding the trimmer too high or at too shallow an angle can result in uneven or ineffective cuts.
If you're trimming for a long period of time, the spool might get hot, causing the line to stick together and not feed through properly. Take a break and let your trimmer spool cool down to avoid losing your line. We hope this tips will help make using the tool a more enjoyable experience. We would like to get in touch to ensure that your tool is operating up to our performance standards. Please reach out to our Customer Support line directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a Live agent or call us on Greenworks Pro toll-free helpline at 1-855-345-3934. We would like the opportunity to speak with you to see if we can find a solution. GreenworksTools

Great features and plenty of power

I've used trimmers for years and have owned both electric (corded) and battery powered ones. Even if you have a small lawn, battery power is the way to go. No dragging a cord all over your yard, and no monkeying around with gas trimmers that won't start and are so loud you disturb the whole neighborhood. I've never owned a Greenworks product in the past, and I can say that I will certainly look for their products when I'm in the market for other yard tools. While trimmers are all pretty basic in what they do and how they accomplish it, there are features that can make or break that process. The Greenworks trimmer really seems to check all the boxes on a device like this. While the 80 volt battery is not small, it does counter balance the trimmer nicely. The whole design is well thought out. The brushless motor helps make this trimmer the quietest I've ever used. It was a very pleasant surprise when I first turned it on and I didn't hear an annoying whine. This guy is quiet! The battery charges up very quickly (in 40 minutes, so the instructions say). My initial charge time was much less because the battery comes partially charged. The battery charger has a built in fan to help keep it cool, so I'm guessing without that, charging an 80V battery would generate quite a bit of heat. The full charge I started with was more than enough for me to edge my entire medium-sized lawn. I didn't put the battery in the charger when I was done because it didn't seem to need another charge. After I was done, I pressed the status button on the battery and found that I still had 2/3 charge left. Using the trimmer was as easy as you might expect. The trigger portion on the handle is very ergonomic. When you grasp the handle, you depress the safety switch, and then pulling the trigger on the bottom side starts the motor. Even with the large battery installed, I was surprised at the weight of this trimmer. The brushless motor and the aluminum shaft help to keep the weight down considerably, which allows for a larger capacity battery to be used. All my previous trimmers all suffer from the same problem, they're just too heavy. Steel shafts with standard motors add to the weight. Not so with the Greenworks trimmer. And as a bonus, in case you have a big yard or will just be trimming for quite awhile, they've included a nice padded strap to help distribute the weight over your shoulder. I did use the strap and with a little experimentation I found you can dial in the perfect height so that you can just concentrate on steering the business end. The strap attaches on a floating ring which will rotate around the shaft freely, meaning it's not a fixed connection point and will hold the trimmer without binding up or getting caught. There's also a conveniently placed slide switch right by your thumb. This trimmer has two speeds (1 & 2). The trigger is variable speed, but the speed switch will let you choose either a faster or slower setting. I found I didn't need to switch it out of the #1 setting. I had plenty of power to trim any grass I couldn't get with the mower. Presumably, the #2 setting would run down the battery a little faster but for my size yard, this is not a problem either way. I found the trimmer to be maneuverable and very comfortable to use. The trimmer line (which is pre-wound for you) cut grass very well. This is another area that some of my previous trimmers had problems with. I have not had the opportunity to “re-string” this trimmer yet, but it appears to be quite easy to do. The trimmer also has a bump-feed feature to let out more line when you need it. This is a pretty standard feature these days and I found it to work quite well. One bump let out the needed line and I didn't need to keep bumping the head on the ground to get it to work correctly. If you have other Greenworks tools, you already know that they use the same battery in other tools as well, so they are interchangeable between tools. Greenworks states that over 75 other tools they make can use these same batteries. That's a lot of tools! If there was something I didn't like about this trimmer, that wouldn't be a big selling point but since I've been very happy with it, I will definitely consider purchasing more of their tools in the future. As a final point, it's sometimes a little challenging storing a tool like this because of the length. I usually hang my trimmer horizontally on the garage wall, but this time I'm going to hang it vertically by using the area on the bottom beneath the battery that's meant for hanging it with a single screw or nail. Much easier and it takes up less wall space that way. This tool has a 4 year warranty on not only the tool itself, but the battery as well. That's a pretty strong selling point. I really like this trimmer and I'm anxious to check out some of the other Greenworks tools that are available.

    Powerful and Amazing Trimmer!

I’ve been looking for a new trimmer and I and super happy to have this. I’ve never been good at using these, but I can tell that’s about to change. I knew this product was amazing after the first use! Greenworks claims the battery can fully charge in 40 mins and I’m a believer. I plugged it in while I started to mow the lawn. I pulled weeds for a bit after mowing and it was charged! Setup wasn’t as easy as I expected, but it’s ok. There was an allen wrench that did a bulk of the work, I just had to line up where the screws went. While using the trimmer, I was pleasantly surprised to feel the power from the battery operated tool. There were two speeds (high or low) and both performed well. I’ll mainly be using this to keep the grass line looking good. Pros: Powerful Lightweight Shoulder strap helped take weight off of arms No cord hassle Well balanced Amazing battery length for a cordless tool! Fast charging for battery High/Low speed options Cons: The battery makes a loud fan noise while charging. It’s not a deal breaker, but I was surprised when I heard it. Tad pricey, but worth it! Overall: Highly recommend this yard tool. It’s super lightweight and you can feel the power. The weight is nicely balanced for as big of a tool this is. It’s a bit pricey, but well worth it. Controlling was easy and trimmed the grass line really well. I am super happy to have this and highly recommend it. I’m definitely looking forward to the next time I need it!

The Greenworks 80V 16” Brushless String Trimmer really surpassed my expectations. I've always used gas-powered lawn and garden tools, but that has now changed with the addition of this rechargeable trimmer! Unboxing - the trimmer is pretty much assembled in the box and is folded in the box. Once out of the box it took approx. 15 minutes to unfold and connect the shaft, install the trimmer guard, adjustable handle and support strap. The only tool needed is an allen wrench and one is included with the trimmer. It couldn't be easier to build. Also included in the box is the rechargeable battery and plug in charger. I set the battery up to charge while building the trimmer, and it took approximately 30 minutes for the battery to top off. There is a fan installed on the charger which keeps the setup cool and more efficient while charging. It was a bit on the loud side in my kitchen, but once I moved it out to the garage the sound didn't matter. Once the battery was fully charged I started clearing growth from around my yard's perimeter as there isn't much grass at this time of year in New England. This thing took all the old dried grass stocks down without skipping a beat. Using the Trimmer - There is a trigger, trigger lock and speed switch for controls which make operation a snap. The first thing I noticed was how well balanced the trimmer is when hung with the adjustable strap. Although the battery is a bit hefty, once in the trimmer its weight is offset by the shaft and trimmer base. With the use of the adjustable handle, it's very easy to carry and maneuver the trimmer while working. My arms never got tired. The trimmer is also very quiet when running, no headphones needed! Like most other trimmers, in order to refresh the trimmer line, simply bump the base on the ground until the desired length is achieved. There is a line trimmer built into the guard that will cut the line to the correct length. Line can also be retracted by spinning the rotating base piece. I used the trimmer for close to 45 minutes and it never slowed down, so Greenworks' claim of 50 minutes of runtime is accurate. Pros: - Easy to assemble and operate - Great battery life, and no gas required! - Well balanced feel, no strain on arms while using - Very quiet when running - Solid build quality - Battery supports 75+ other Greenworks tools Cons: - Fan on battery charger is a bit loud, this is a stretch just trying to find a con! Overall the Greenworks 16" Brushless String Trimmer has exceeded my expectations for a non gas-powered trimmer and I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking.

I was in need of a new weed-eater as the one I use to have was falling apart. My old one was a cord electric and decided to try a battery ran one. At first I was worried at the length of time however was very impressed at how long it lasted. The setup out of the box was very easy and simple. It was pretty self explanatory however does provide a small booklet to help figure it out. Components are made of hard plastic which is fine for keeping it from becoming too heavy over long period of usage. I only used this for residential use, land is next to a retention forest so all range types of yard thick weeds/grass grows. Even with the very tough weeds and grass the battery still lasted for over 2 hours. I was impressed that the battery never became hot however didn't like the "Stickiness" that occurs from the greenworks logo on the side. The green smudged onto my skin as well as became very sticky. I ended up having to place a paper towel over the logo to keep it from sticking to my skin during usage. Unfortunately that paper towel blended with the logo so its not pretty looking anymore. I know many spoke of the trimmer/feeder part being plastic, however I have not had any issues with a "light" bump to gain more string. After usage I re-charged the battery, it does take some time to recharge however I like that there is a status indicator on it to show what level the batter is at. I do recommend when charging the battery place the charger in another area as it becomes very noisy with the fan blowing. Overall I really enjoyed using the product, the battery lasted over 2 hours, the height was perfect for someone 6ft and the strap made long usage not cumbersome.

Works pretty well. Certainly quieter than a 2-cycle engine trimmer, but seems to have plenty of power. Lots of edging on my corner lot, but battery life is good. Battery recharges quickly. A little heavy, but the included shoulder strap helps a lot. Haven’t reloaded the trimming line yet, but it looks easy. Overall good trimmer. Instructions for the battery and charger pretty poorly translated. No instructions at all for the trimmer itself - controls, reloading line, assembling shield.

I’ve had good experience with Greenworks’ pressure washers in the past, so I was excited to try these new tools. This is a nice, hefty pro trimmer. Definitely larger and longer than the trimmers I had in the past as Greenworks appears to be going for more of a pro audience with these 80v tools. In the hand it doesn’t feel too much heavier than my prior electric tool, but it does feel better built, with an aluminum shaft and metal motor assembly at the end. That heft is relieved a bit with the included shoulder strap which, while my yard is small, would be nice if your yard is large or have more area to cover. It’s also a nice looking tool. I love the light green color they have going, the rugged industrial design, and how the battery slots in from the top at the rear. The cutting ‘whip’ is also surprisingly a hefty/reinforced dual-extruded plastic and should last longer than the simple cord on most consumer units. A few nits I discovered though… first, the charger is louder when charging (internal fan) than I would like, but if it’s just making noise in a garage, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue for most. Second, the battery itself was almost sticky on the outside, especially after being warmed by the charger. I suspect that they coated the outer plastic with a polymer that makes it look more like shiny metal, but that it’s maybe a bit too soft, and therefor, sticky. I hope that will improve or wear with time. Cleaning it didn’t really make that go away, but it’s fairly subtle. Last, when removing the protective stickers from the branding logos on the battery end of the trimmer, the green of the logos peeled away slightly, not entirely, but some of it came off with the sticker. Not great, but something I hope Greenworks will quickly adjust the adhesive used when packaging their future units. All-in-all I’m very happy with this. It’s a clear step-above my older, cheaper unit, yet the price on this one still seems appropriate.

This is part of the 'Pro' line, and uses 80V batteries. This is a kit that comes with the trimmer, am 80V 2.0Ah battery and rapid charger. The trimmer comes almost fully assembled, folded in half. This is a new design where the battery and controls are on the top. Cables on the shaft to the brushless engine on the bottom. Some advantages of this setup is that there is less weight and better weight distribution. It should also be more quiet and more efficient as the motor is directly spinning the trimmer without any gears. However this will not accept accessories. The trimmer is well built, with adjustable handles and a strap The line feed is simple to use, like many others, press to feed, turn the wheel at the bottom to wheel in (there is a hole to lock the spin with a screwdriver while servicing) and the spool comes off easily by releasing a clip. The spool is a dual-line although I'm not sure what the replacement part would be. The rapid charger worked well, and it has a fan when charging. The battery is 2.0Ah, which is the lowest capacity Greenworks sells for their 80V series. Currently their highest capacity in 80V is 5.0 Ah Like with any battery tool from any brand, the tool will only work with brand-specific batteries. Overall first impression is that this is a great tool. Warranty is 4 years for the tool and 2 for the battery.

Purchased this for my husband because his gas powered trimmer was on the fritz. He was against it being battery powered and thought it would not have any power. I urged him to give it a try and he finally did over the weekend. He was astounded by the power of this trimmer. He took back what he said and loves using it. He is 6 ft and I'm 5 ft and we both can use it with ease with the strap, the strap is very helpful and I feel it is very easy to use. It holds a good charge as well. I would highly recommend this trimmer.

This trimmer is well constructed and very powerful. It is far quieter than any gas powered trimmer and the unique spooling mechanism for loading new line is far easier than any I've ever used. The 2Ah battery charges quickly and lasts long enough for a mid size yard but it is notably heavier than a lower voltage device (40V or less). You gain power and run time with the 80V battery. Also worth noting that the overall length of the trimmer is fixed. If you are under 5' 6", it is going to feel a bit long. Our older B&D trimmer had an adjustable length, which was handy for storage or shorter users. Wish this one had that feature.

This thing is much more powerful than I expected! I've had electric grass trimmers before and none of them have come close to the power that this one provides! The battery is more than long enough to handle my yard (1,600 Sq Ft). The weight isn't too much different from a gas powered one either. It's very easy to handle and operate! Thank goodness I no longer have to deal with the mixing of gas and oil plus I can start it with just the push of a button.
