Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the sound quality, charging capabilities, ease of use, iPod compatibility, and smart scan feature of the iTrip Auto FM Transmitter. They appreciate that it plays music clearly, charges their devices while in use, and is simple to operate. However, customers are negative about the static in the background, weak signal to the radio frequency, price, durability, and reception issues. They find the static distracting, the signal strength to be lacking, and the price to be high for the quality they receive.

I had a another kind of FM transmitter/charger for my ipod but it had so much static over the radio and it broke down in just 1 year. So I bought the Griffin Itrip, this one was good no static, very clear sound, the settings were easy to do and it was small. i would totally recommend this to my friends.

When I bought this transmitter, I took it out to the car and plugged it in to my iPod Nano (3rd generation). It worked, and the quality of sound was pretty decent for the price of the product. I used it for about a month, but then it began to act strangely. I live in Portland, Oregon. The radio dial is certainly not empty, but I should have been more than able to find an open station. The "SmartScan" feature doesn't work. Plain and simple. In fact, most of the time, it just sent me either to a station that was already in use, or to 107.9, which is the last frequency in the FM band. Eventually, the product ceased to work at all. I would plug it in, and it would work well for about 5 minutes. Then, it would slowly slip into static. I tried switching frequencies, but that didn't work either. The only solution seemed to be to unplug it for 24 hours and try again the next day. That made it work again, but only for another 5 minutes. Basically, I was left with a glorified iPod car charger that I couldn't play music with at all. Eventually, I sent it back to the manufacturer and bought a different product.

    Worst buy at Best Buy

I went into the store and asked an employee for help. I told him that I have had trouble with car radio transmitters in the past, and am willing to spend more money on a real good one. He told me that this was the one that I wanted and quickly walked away before giving me any other options, or asking if I had any questions (store was not busy at the time). Respecting the employees opinion I purchased the iTrip Auto FM Transmitter for Apple iPod and iPhone. I was happy with the ease of use, but very unhappy with the quality of the connection that It provided. It is impossible to get a connection without any white noise and I have to constantly change the station just to hear the bits of pieces of a song I want to hear. The scan method doesn't even find a good station for me to use as it often picks stations that are major radio stations in my city and other stations that will not play what I want but rather white noise again. The scan button is completely useless. I wish I never bought this product and would definitely return it if I had not thrown away the box and receipt.

We're so sorry to hear about the trouble you had with your iTrip! Unfortunately, the FCC has set limits on the broadcast strength of personal FM transmitters so that they won't interfere with licensed, high-powered stations. Your best course of action is to try to find three staticky stations in a row, and then pick the middle frequency to use with your iTrip. If you're not able to find a consistently staticky station in your area (even silence means that something is being broadcast on that frequency) then a better bet for you might be a different type of audio connection, such as an auxiliary audio input or a cassette adapter.

If you are able to find a consistently unused frequency in your area, and the iTrip is still not performing up to snuff, then your iTrip may be defective. In that case, just give us a call at (800) 208-5996 between 9am and 6pm Monday through Thursday or between 9am and 5pm on Friday (CST) and we'll see what we can do for you.griffin-technology

Well when I first bought this it always had a little static but when I held it up next to my radio it was clear. So i went to my local hardware store and bought some velro strips for 1.50$ and then i velcro'ed the transmitter right next to my radio and it has been clear ever since.

My objective with this device was to listen to the TVs that are located at the health club (LIfeTime Fitness) while I workout. The device works great at the Burr Ridge club but am having less success (static) at the Schaumburg club. Overall I am satisfied with the device.

I've had XM radio for years and it went through my car stereo via an FM transmitter, so I know they work. This one didn't! What I heard was a weak signal and a lot of static. I tried it in a friends car and got the same results. I tried numerous different stations, and they all gave poor sound quality. I don't know how much juice this unit puts out, but its weak for sure. I took it back the next day and got a Belkin. Its better, but still not really clear like it should be.

Great product. The price is a little high but there is almost no static. One of the best Fm transmitters. I was scared to buy any FM transmitter because of the static and price but I bought this and was pleased.

I looked for a long time to find a fm transmitter that charged and didn't have a docking station. For some cars like those docking stations don't really fit and I heard can break easily. This transmitter has it all, my friend loved the gift and uses it all of the time.

This unit is simple to use. We got one for long road trips. My wife uses it mostly and likes it. Our car has the antenna way in back (it being a station wagon) and at first it had static. I moved it further towards the rear of the car and it cleared up.

    Surprised how good it is

I have been researching FM transmitters for my iPod for about a month before purchasing this one a couple days ago. I will admit I thought after looking up products and asking friends it sounded like every single transmitter was a waste of money and the music would sound nothing like how it's suppose to especially for how much the transmitters are one would think that they would be receiving a good product...Well after purchasing this item I immediately took it to my vehicle to test it out and i was very SURPRISED on how well it worked...When driving around testing out the clarity of the product if i received static it was very little and only occurred for a second between songs (and that only happened once). Needless to say I'm very glad that I purchased this item for $60 rather than forking over $100 for how some are.

    So-So

My husband and I both have one of these. I have found it to be not as user friendly as I might have hoped. Maybe it is the way my car stereo is set up - I don't have as many controls as many autos do - because my husband, in his Honda, doesn't have any trouble with his. I find that it is difficult to find a blank frequency and that there is often interference on the frequency that I do use to listen to my music. Also the volume is lower than it is with the regular stereo. However, it does indeed give me the chance to listen to my ipod in the car and mostly works fine. There aren't too many other options out there right now for this type of thing.

At first I was wary about purchasing this product because so many people had commented on having difficulties with similar products. However, I love this fm transmitter and use it frequently when I'm driving on the highway since my car is not equipped with a cd/cassette player and I don't have the patience to switch radio stations every time I enter a new state. The only issue is that sometimes, in more city like areas (like my hometown), there are too many radio stations, which makes it difficult to find a radio station that can enable me to play music from my ipod. Other than that, I have no complaints. The sound is good, and I hardly ever get any static.

I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift since he had just gotten a new iPhone. He love to listen to his music anywhere he goes and I thought this would be a great way for him to be able to listen to his collection of iTunes. But he plugged it in and set it up and the reception was scratchy and horrible to listen to. Not sure if its the radio frequency or a bad unit, but it now just sits in the glove compartment. Waste of money.

I have been using this transmitter for 2 months now. I has some quirks but as long as I honor them, it works just fine. No static even in the downtown area. For the price, this is a good product.

I had purchased on off-brand FM transmitter for my i-pod nano and in Mankato, MN there were no radio stations with a clear enough frequency to use it. By purchasing an actual i-trip there were far more frequencies to try and use to listen to my music. The only problem is as I travel I have to change the frequency often closer to larger towns with several radio stations. Overall I am satisfied with this product.

I bought this product about 9 months ago and till now it has been working good. There was a little static coming through with my music but nothing i couldnt handle. Then the cord started to separate from the connector and so i taped it back. It kept coming undone and now the cord is completely ripped leaving the wires open. The product no longer works, after 9 months, because of the cord only. Overall this is a good product to buy and is very convenient

If you are expecting crystal clear playback of your mp3s, this transmitter (and others like it) are not what you need. You constantly have to try to find a "quiet" channel, especially if you are driving across town or further. The charger feature is the most useful part of the device. So your iPod wil be fully charged, but you might not like what you hear.

This was an aweful purchase decision. Aweful static no matter what empty station is used. Have to play around with it and hold it in a awkward position to have any success. The smallest change in position or bump in road ruins all progress and have to hunt for signal again.
