Perfect 1st Bike for Learning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a bit worried at first about getting this bike, and that was due to the fact that my daughter doesn't yet know how to ride a bike. She's had a small kid's bike before with training wheels, and we tried to teach her to ride, but it just wasn't working for several reasons. My daughter is now 7 and she can ride a scooter and she even rides horses, but not a bike. In comes this Hover-1 electric bike. I thought, maybe if she doesn't have to worry about pedaling she might learn to balance on a bike, which seems to usually be the biggest issue. So we went for it. Initial assembly was easy enough, just attach the front wheel and handlebars, adjust the handlebar and seat seat height and you're pretty much done. The only complaint I have here is that the cables come attached to the bike and handlebars and there's not a lot of slack. I pretty much had to stretch as hard as I could to get the handlebar stem into the bike frame. The other issue with the cables is that if you adjust the handlebar height too high, they become so tight that you can't turn the wheel fully to one side. They really should have made the cables just an inch or two longer and this problem would have been avoided. As it is, the handlebar height is limited by the cable length and not the stem/frame size. Final step Is to just let it fully charge before using it per the instructions, which only took about 3 hours. Now it was time to see how my daughter does on it, and she was definitely excited to try it out. It didn't start out that great though, because it wouldn't start! Turns out, you have to manually get the e-bike moving before the electric motor will start up. Unfortunately, this isn't mentioned anywhere in the manuals that I could find. In fact, the guide just states, "To start riding, engage the throttle gently." I tried to engage it as gently as possible and all the way and every way in between and it doesn't work. Luckily I looked at some other reviews and saw other people run into this same issue and had figured out the solution. This process of starting can get a little annoying as it has to be done each and every time you come to a stop. After stopping and starting over and over my daughter started complaining about her ankles hurting because she kept banging them on the foot pegs when she was pushing herself to get moving. With that said, let's get back to actually riding the bike, by a kid who doesn't know how to ride a bike. First few tries to get going were a little bit wobbly. The fact that she didn't have to pedal though meant she could keep her feet out close to the ground to correct herself if she lost her balance. This was working exactly as I imagined it, except even better. After quite literally just a few tries in a matter of minutes, she started to ride for slightly longer stretches without having to put her feet down. The problem now was that we were on the sidewalk in front of our house, and she hadn't quite figured out the steering part yet and kept going off the side and stopping. So we obviously needed a better spot to practice, and there just happens to be a field in our neighborhood across the street from us. Problem is that it's a grassy field, and there's the question of how well this bike would ride on it. The field is used as a soccer field a lot so it's kept well trimmed and the ground is fairly solid, so we decided to give it a try. And it worked! The bike rode just fine and was able to propel itself across the grassy field. With the ground being more forgiving my daughter had a lot more confidence, and it wasn't even 5 minutes before she was riding around in circles and steering without stumbling or losing her balance. Now that was all on the low speed setting, which limits it to around 4 mph. A safe speed where I could keep up with her just by walking fast. This made it easier for her to learn to ride too because she could just press the throttle all the way and not worry about holding it partially. After about another 30 minutes of practice, she was ready to try the high speed setting. The faster speed scared her a little at first, but only for about a minute before she started getting used to it. Now the harder part was learning to stop properly. At first she was having problems remembering to let go of the throttle before coming to a stop, but it didn't take long for her to get that figured out either. After maybe 45 minutes of practice riding around on the field, she went back to the streets, or I should say sidewalks! She was riding this e-bike with no problems at all. At this point, I think she's almost ready to try out a pedal bike! I feel like all she needs is about another week of riding this e-bike around to truly get comfortable with all the aspects of riding a bike, minus the pedaling of course. But just think how much easier it's going to be when that's the only new thing to learn! Of course this bike isn't just a teaching tool, and even after she finally starts riding a pedal bike herself, this e-bike will still get plenty of use. Oftentimes we find ourselves wanting to go for a walk, or riding our own bikes, whether around our neighborhood or when we go camping at parks. But then the 7 year old is always somehow, 'too tired'. Now she has this e-bike to ride around with us without needing to 'exert' herself! Plus she's having a ton of fun on it and absolutely loves riding it around. Last thing to really talk about is the battery charge. It says it can last up to 7.5 miles. It's hard to test that with a 7 year old, but I have no reason to doubt that range. My daughter was riding for hours on the initial charge and the battery level only dropped down to 50%. She even kept pointing out how much battery charge was still left. In summary, this e-bike is not only great for what it is, fun and easy to ride, but also a great teaching tool to help your kid learn how to ride a bike. It says it's for kids 5 years old and up. For reference, my daughter is just a few weeks from turning 8 and is 4'3" tall. The bike looks a little small, but it's proportionally almost like an adult on a moped. The only negatives are the cable length and starting method. I can see a reason to force a manual start, but they should at least mention how it works. Those aren't huge negatives, so it deserves more than 4 stars, but since I can't do 4.5 I'll round it up to 5. So if you have a child that needs not just their 1st E-bike, but just 1st bike, this is the one to get. You might just be surprised at how easy they learn to start riding like my wife and I were, as we were watching our daughter figure it out on her own. All without us having to 'catch' her or be alongside her to 'hold' her straight, not even once.

Simply E Bike
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hover-1 - My 1st E-Bike is a very well put together E-Bike for small children. It is very easy to put together and comes with the "Swiss" army tool kit. The tool kit is quite handy and will do the job, but I did use my own tools to do the final setup and making sure everything was tight. Out of the box, all you basically have to do is put on the front wheels and handle bar. Final seat height and handle bar adjustment is pretty easy to do. You could put all together in 15-30 mins easily. It has a digital keypad on the right hand side that powers on and off and select the speed of the Hover-1 - My 1st E-Bike. Low speed is pretty low and actually might be a little too slow depending on the weight of the rider. My daughter is 50ish pounds and started on the low speed to get used to the Hover-1 - My 1st E-Bike, now she rides it with the "higher" speed, because it's easier to balance at higher speed, gyroscopic effect. It's a very well put together bike. Ease of use and easy seat height adjustment. Battery life and range is fine for around the neighborhood. Just a maybe, the only thing I would have a very slight con would be the port for charging is underneath the front frame. Lol I really want to try it out, but I am pretty I exceed the weight limit. It's an excellent bike, if you want to ride around the neighborhood with your kid, while you pedal on your bike and your bougee kid on her electric bike :)

Awesome Bike
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great bike! When I first opened the box I could tell the quality of the bike. The bike is pretty much assembled minus the handlebars and the front wheel. The great thing is that it comes with a multipurpose tool that has all the wrenches you need to complete the bike. From open to complete it was about 10 minutes. The tires were even inflated to proper pressure so after you charge it for the first time it’s ready to go. The construction of the bike feels very solid and durable. The seat had a quick release so it’s very easy to adjust. When my son first saw it he was excited so we took it out to the driveway, he hit the throttle and crashed right into the bushes. To be fair, he doesn’t know how to ride a bike minus training wheels. For his next attempt, we went to a soccer field close by and let him loose. Within an hour he was riding it at full speed, turning, and he didn’t want to leave. He rode it nonstop at full speed in the grass for about 90 minutes and it still shows a full battery. Overall I highly recommend this bike and as I mentioned it was a great way to learn how to ride a bike.

All tools needed, well designed.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our family has been loving this E-bike since opening it last week. I have had the opportunity to use other "E" vehicles but this one was easily the easiest to set up and get running. One cool thing about the assembly of this bike is that it came with a little multi-tool that included everything needed to get this bike built and up and running, which made the unboxing experience very satisfactory. Outside of assembly, the design of this bike appears to be well thought out. The frame is sturdy and the on/off toggle is very well illuminated so there no questions of what toggle does each function. The seat is adjustable but the foot pegs are not, which is not a big deal unless you have large feet. Keep in mind this is built for kids so the foot peg is not a deal breaker. The speed is about what is expected, a modest 7-8 mph but is a nice speed for kids or small adults. Charging is about the same of any E-vehicle such as a scooter. After riding we plug back in so the battery is full and ready to go. My bike is red and it shines just like one of the old school tricycles, we really like it. All in all, assembly was a breeze as all tools were included, the fit and feel of the bike was equal to or better than expected and the appearance is exactly what I was hoping for. Highly recommended for small adults or children!

Fun on flat surfaces, but no pedals
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Hover-1 My First e-Bike as a gift for my nephews who are 8 and 6 years old, and it is the perfect size for them. The e-bike comes mostly assembled, though you will have to attach the front wheel and handle bars on your own. Note that this e-bike doesn’t have any pedals for manual riding, and there are small rubber-padded foot rests in their place. Unfortunately, this means that once the bike is out of battery, it will need to be carried or walked. A multi-tool with an assortment of Allen keys, wrench sizes, and even socket wrench tips is included to help you put it together, which took me about 15 minutes. If you’re not very familiar with bicycle assembly, the included manual could do a better job explaining that the bicycle hub safety washer should hook into the adjacent hole in the wheel fork, prior to stacking the flat washer on top and tightening on the lug nut before covering it with the protective plastic nut. You should also note that there is a minimum insertion depth for the handlebar shank, marked with an arrow and dashed line. Both the saddle (seat) and handlebar heights are adjustable several inches after assembly, so different height riders can use the e-bike with minimal hassle thanks to a quick-release clamp for raising and lowering the seat. The fully assembled bike measures about 32” tall and 40” from front to back with 14” diameter wheels. The frame has a durable heavy-duty construction, and the battery and 150Watt motor are housed inside of it. Behind the left foot rest, is a short kickstand that supports the bike just fine when engaged. The hand-brake is on the left side of the handlebars while the controls and motor throttle are on the right. The bike weighs just over 20 lbs so isn’t that heavy to carry for an adult. While it’s rated for riders over the age of 5 who are at least 44 lbs, the only maximum restriction is that the rider weighs less than 132 lbs, which meant that I was also able to take the bike for a spin. Just make sure to fully inflate the tires to the recommended 36 PSI. If inflating with a manual pump, I found the tires simply won’t accept any more air past this pressure rating. The bike comes with a brick-style wall adapter with approximately 8 feet of wire length. The barrel connector plugs into a port on the bottom side of the bike’s downtube, which is protected by a purple silicone plug. When charging, the LED on the adapter will be red and turns green when the battery is fully charged after about 4 hours. On a full charge the bike has an expected range of about 7.5 miles, meaning it should be able to operate for up to a couple hours depending on the rider’s weight, speed, usage, and terrain. The controls have a toggle button for choosing low and high speed modes and 4 blue LEDs that indicate remaining battery life. To turn the bike on, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the lights on the controls illuminate. Then, to get the bike started, walk it forward so that the wheels are turning, and gradually press down on the thumb throttle while doing so to engage the motor. You can help your child get it started by walking the bike with them while they gently press the throttle. I found it odd that nowhere in the instructions does it mention the bike must be in-motion in order to activate the motor; I presumed this was the case as this is how my adult-sized e-bike functions -- an important piece of information, I think, for folks whom this is indeed their “first e-bike.” The motor on this bike ramps up gradually, and its top speeds in low/high mode are about 4 and 8 mph respectively. It’s pretty fun to ride on paved roads and tracks, though isn’t designed for off-road terrain like soft dirt trails or tall grass. I found that even small bumps, like the unevenness between sidewalk slabs and curb transitions, can be quite difficult (and uncomfortable) to traverse and the manual recommends avoiding any obstacle taller than ½ inch. It is also strictly a fair-weather vehicle and should not be used in extreme heat/cold, rain, snow, icy or wet conditions. Surprisingly, the bike performed admirably on hilly inclines around 15-20° though struggled a bit more on steeper gradients. I found that you don’t want to disengage the throttle during an uphill climb as the motor may or may not have the power to start up again mid-ascent. On the flip side, be cautious while going downhill, as the bike can pick up speed quickly and can exceed the max 8 mph motor speed while doing so. The faster you are going, the longer distance you need to come to a full stop using the left hand-brake alone, which is pressure-sensitive and isn’t as immediate as on a manual bicycle. While brake strength can be adjusted by twisting the silver threaded stud in front of the hand-brake (increase stopping power by creating a gap between it and the nut against the brake handle), be careful not to overdo it as this can cause the bike to tip when braking suddenly. Overall, my experience (and my nephews') on the Hover-1 My First e-bike was really fun and since the top speed is around 8 mph, it isn’t very intimidating. The bike was easy to assemble out-of-the-box, and it is simple to ride, despite a lack of thorough instructions. The battery life is adequate for short rides, but you will need to maintain the battery by charging it every couple of months, even if it’s not being used. The bike is not weatherproof though, so must be stored indoors and used only when the weather and terrain are agreeable. I think it’s a great starter e-bike for kids, but I wish that it had pedals for manual operation as a backup for when the battery is depleted and, of course, to promote healthier habits through physical activity.

The kids love it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This action packed bike is easy to assemble, easy to use and the kids love it. To assemble there are just a few easy steps with the tools provided and a socket set. The front wheel goes on and then you mount the handle bars and tighten. Charge the bike overnight and its ready to go. It has two speeds and my 9 year old jumped right to high speed and mastered riding it in minutes. The lower speed would be great for the lower range of suggested ages for the bike starting at age 4. Its suggested for kids 4-8 but my 9 year old is a short 55lbs and it fits him perfect. Immediately my son was a little daredevil on the bike going up and down the street and weaving and turning sharp. At up to 8mph a helmet is a must, but the good news is being low to the ground, when they are driving wild and turning, their foot easily touches the ground to stop them or slow them down. The bike has great brakes, but most of the time he just lets off the throttle and it slows on its own and or he puts his foot down on the ground to stop it. The throttle seems easy for him to use and its usually full throttle! He has been riding it for weeks now and has yet to get bored with it. The battery lasts well for his attention span and when he rides it to his friends house it has a nice kick stand to park and take care of it. He charges it each night when he's done riding so its always ready to go. One small nit pick is that the rubber grips for the feet fall off easily and he in fact lost one because he didn't know when it fell off. The good news is he rides just fine without the grip, but if I had it to do over again, I would have found a strong glue to hold them on. Overall its a great addition to the summer fun and we liked it so much that we bought a second for our daughter to use.

UNSAFE
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.STAY FAR AWAY!!! Bought two of these as gifts for my kids. One had a cracked housing around the power button, and cracked wire holder upon opening. I let it slide because it was cosmetic. But now the other one has a sticky throttle, which has now become a safety issue for my child. Because I was slightly past the return window when the throttle issue happened. BB wont let me return it. Also, I didn’t realize TotalTech was not applied when purchasing originally. Which makes me believe Best Buy knew the quality sucked and purposely doesn’t offer it.
