had to buy these again after a firmware update for the printer caused the 3rd party ink cartridges to not work anymore. It's expensive and runs out quick. I've since moved on from HP printers as their quality is mediocre at best vs the price you pay for the printer and ink. Got a Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4830 now and am much happier.

I have two issues with this printer ink. The authentic brand is too expensive and HP controls your printer remotely. They would not accept the new black cartridge when I installed it, message it was not there. After a few hours of frustration with HP I gave up. The next morning I tried a different tactic. I put the old one back. They said it was low on ink. I took the old one out and replaced it with the new. It worked this time. I new it was the black ink that needed replaced. However HP keep messaging I needed to replace the others. Due to the cost and because my last printer would tell me which color needed to be replaced, I have not replaced any other cartridge. Works fine! This is not the only problem with HP. The worst problem is one cannot get anyone from HP to actually talk to and their website is a very untamed maze. My warranty is still effective. I left a message on the website stating I wanted directions on getting the printer in for a diagnoses. I did this before Halloween 2018. Today is January 25, 2019. They have not contacted me yet. I am going to look for refilled cartridges. I just hope HP's remote control does not let it print and sends me a message saying the ink is not genuine.

      Hi Anne,

I am very sorry to hear that you had trouble with that cartridge. That message is displayed when the printer cannot make contact with the cartridge. Sometimes removing and replacing the cartridge will correct the problem (cleaning the copper contacts on the cartridge and in the printer slot for that cartridge is sometimes necessary if there are fingerprints or debris interfering with the connection).

The message about low ink is shown before the cartridge actually needs to be replaced so that you have time to obtain a replacement. You do not need to put the replacement in until you see that that particular color is too streaky or missing from your printouts.

I'm not sure what website you used for the message, but you can find your preferred method to contact us through the website: hp.com/contactHP

It's ok, but I had to bring one back because I didn't know the HP Printer folks wouldn't like it...plus...the HP folks provide a bigger ink cartridge.... call me a Luddite, but I was upfront about not knowing a lot about computers when I asked for help buying ink.

Only fault of this Ink Cartridge is that it never last long enough in my HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, You can get a bigger cartridge for my model of Printer and I would recommend looking into the larger size instead but this does the trick...

      Hi Ben,

While I'm glad you like the quality, I can understand if you are disappointed when it seems to run out to quickly.

Normally, your ink usage determines how long a cartridge lasts. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is extra absorbent and the air is warm and dry.

Here are some things that might help lower your ink costs:
      - Black is used a lot in almost every printout. Make use of the printer's draft mode whenever possible, to help stretch out black and colored ink
      - Using the black-only setting will save on colored ink usage.
      - Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
      - Shutting the printer down between uses will save electricity and a few drops of ink here and there that are used to keep the inkjets cleared and ready for your next print job.
      - Instant Ink lets you pay by the page. Check out the details at: instantink.com

If it appears that poor performance is due to a defect or you got a cartridge that was already low on ink, please contact the seller.

According to the Best Buy website: "If you receive a product that is damaged in shipping, defective or that is not the product you ordered, please return it during your return and exchange time period to Best Buy and we'll arrange for a replacement. If you would rather return the item by mail during your return and exchange time period, please call us for special instructions at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289)."

      Hello there,

I can understand if you are disappointed when the cartridges seem to run out too quickly. How each individual cartridge will perform for you is determined by your own usage. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is quite absorbent and the air is warm and dry.

      - Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.

      Hi,

I am sorry that your cartridge didn't last long. I can understand why you are disappointed by that fact.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to try the XL version. Most people think that the XL cartridges are a much better value, depending on how much printing you do.

      Hello,

My apologies for this happening to you. I'm not sure how to help with changing it, but can offer some tips for getting more printouts.

The print jobs you send to the printer usually determine how long a cartridge lasts (unless it was damaged or defective). High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will run the cartridge out faster.

Here are some things that might help lower your ink usage:
      - Consider using XL cartridges. Most people say they are a much better value
      - Make use of the printer's draft mode whenever possible
      - Shut the printer down between uses
      - Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying
      - Subscribe to Instant Ink, then you only pay by the page, not for the cartridges themselves

      Hi,

I am sorry that the cartridge didn't last as long as you thought it should. It might be because it was damaged or defective.

Ink usage determines how long a cartridge lasts, unless it was damaged or defective. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the air is dry.

Here are some things that might help lower your ink usage:

The seller is responsible for the product they sent to you. If it was low on ink when it arrived, or if a defect is stopping it from printing, contact the seller about that.

      Hi Mima,

I'm sorry that your ink seems to have been used up too quickly. I can understand why you don't like the expense!

Here are a few facts about ink usage that might help:
      - A high-density print (like a photo) will use the ink more quickly than a low-density print (a text-only document), especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
      - Using the draft and black only settings on your printer can help save ink.
      - Shutting the printer down between uses can help. However, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' itself so that the cartridges are protected from excess drying.

HP tries to help with recycling. Just go to our Planet Partners website to find out how: hp.com/go/recycle
