4-Star Review for HP DeskJet 4255e Wireless

The HP DeskJet 4255e is a solid all-in-one printer that delivers good performance for everyday home or small office use. The wireless setup was quick and easy, and I love being able to print from my phone or laptop without any hassle. The print quality is sharp for documents, and decent for photos, though they won’t be gallery-quality. One of the best features is its compact design—it fits nicely in my workspace without taking up too much room. The scanner and copier functions work well, though the scanning speed could be a bit faster. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the ink cartridges can be a bit pricey over time, and I wish the paper tray held more sheets. That said, if you need a reliable, budget-friendly printer for basic tasks, this is a great choice! Pros: ✔ Easy wireless setup ✔ Compact and sleek design ✔ Good print quality for documents ✔ Works well with mobile printing Cons: ✖ Ink costs can add up ✖ Small paper capacity ✖ Photo printing is just okay Overall, a great value for the price!

Very basic printer, does what it is supposed to do. My only complaint is that it is usually offline when I need it. Not sure if its the printer or the wifi. Usually have to turn it off and on 2 or more times to start my printing.

Prints smooth. The extra ink is nice and it performs well even after long print sessions of all sorts of materials I use for my crafts.

A Decent Printer for Home Use

The DeskJet 4255e is an all in one print/copy/scan machine. It has a traditional design of a rear paper feeder as well as a flatbed scanner with automatic feeder. It does not have fax capability. It accepts two different cartridges; a black ink and a multi-color ink cartridge that are very small. They are small by design as HP anticipates that you will use this printer occasionally. But also, HP is pushing their HP+ ink delivery service that calculates your ink usage and charges you an amount based on how often you use ink. This is offered on most of their printers, so I won’t talk about that so much. But again, the cartridges are small and can be used relatively quickly. I printed a couple of test pages and one document with a photo that took 1/8th of the page, and I've already used 1/5th of the color ink. That is fast. Set up is relatively simple. It comes with a quick start guide to walk you through the WiFi connection process, but what you’ll need mainly is the HP Smart App, either on your Windows PC, iOS or Android. The 4255e will print a set of instructions on how to connect your printer to your network for each OS type. Once you’re connected to the network, HP will then ask you to opt-in on HP Smart Printing as well as offer you 3 free months of ink delivery service. If you decline both, you’ve still a working printer and you are not required to have either service. After I was done following the instructions (holding the WiFi and cancel buttons for a few seconds puts the printer into WiFi setup mode), the printer was now on my home network for other devices to find. As far as print quality, I find it to be nominal for an inkjet printer. You can change print quality to adjust speed as well as ink usage. The better the quality, the more ink is used. I feel that most can get by using the Fast/Economical setting to crank out many documents and save ink. Normal and photo settings will look nicer, but use more ink. You can set these defaults in the HP app. The last cool thing worth mentioning is HP Smart Printing, which allows you to print from any device, even if you’re not on the same network. The 4255e will take advantage of its connection to your WiFi and make itself available to you, no matter where you may be. Now it might be a strange use-case for many considering this printer will probably be used at home, but the benefit is that all your devices don’t have to be connected to the network. You just simply log into your HP Smart account and you will gain access to the 4255e. What you won’t find on this printer is automatic duplex printing. Luckily, there is a manual rendition of it which requires you to take a printed page and re-feed it back into the sheet hopper to print on the back. I can see this being okay for maybe 2-3 pages, but anything more than that can incur a bit of human interaction. Overall, I like what HP did here with the DeskJet 4255e. It’s definitely not the fanciest printer as reflected by its affordability, but it does bring the essential features needed at home. This is most definitely an at-home use printer. We’re not exactly breaking any barriers with 8.5 ppm black/5.5 ppm color, and not to mention the small 60 sheet capacity. This is, in fact, marketed as a monthly-use printer. An “every now and then” kind of printer. And maybe that’s all you really need.

Printers have come a long way in the recent past. I recall waiting for a the printer to "warm up" for what seemed like an eternity. This is not the case anymore. This printers boils down into 3 areas of focus which either need improvement or are out of this park in terms of performance: build, response rate, and long term cost. The build of this printer is a little on the frail side, I understand that printers are everchanging and there needs to be gives and takes but from what I am experiencing this build is a tad thin or flimsy side. When setting it up I was very hesitant that I was going to crack some of the trays or the outer shell. With that said, nothing ever broke but it does have a "too thin" feel to it. On the benefit side it is light weight... so, a give for a take. On the response rate side, it seems like this printer is ready to go on a moments notice, even for a Deskjet. And, with paired with the companion app, items can easily be printed without the rigmarole of copy and pasting. The wifi connection of this item also adds the the speed of click to print time, no need to get onto a hard-wired device to print anymore either. All of these items as described, although only reduce seconds to the printing experience do in fact speed up the process ten fold. Lastly, cost always comes to mind. Firstly, this printer is made of 60% recycled materials, which is technically a cost savings to the planet, but I digress. The ink usage efficiency is top notch, when printing color or B&W. It is noted that a 50% ink savings can be attained when using HP's ink subscription service too. Pairing all of this with its energy savings mode is a recipe to max savings across many different spectrums. All in all, if you are looking for a light weight, eco-friendly, efficient printer that has a quick "click to print" speed, then this is a great option for you.

Took a while to set up. But it works fine after you or anyone else set up. Hard to set up with a older computer with no wifi. Even with a USB connection. Not a lot of directions for that way.

Its a printer. Sometimes you have to reconnect the wifi manually with the phone app. Printer itself is good. But the hp app sucks on the laptop and doesnt work well.

Very nice printer, in my opinion it’s pretty big. It does what a printer should do. I use it mainly for my classroom and teacher things. I’m also able to print from my phone. Only reason for 4 stars is b/c you have to manually turn your paper over in order for it to be double sided. Sometimes it also cuts off a small portion of anything that I print. It’s bittersweet to have to subscribe to ink services but this is the age of subscriptions. However, ink does arrive promptly.
