The HP Envy 6555e All-in-One Printer is a good-looking printer. But as with anything, looks will only get you so far. So is this printer the one of the endless printers options you should pick up? Well that depends. In terms of style, this is a good-looking printer that won’t feel too bulky or foreboding to keep out in the open in your home office, or wherever you plan to keep it. I do appreciate how low profile the printer is given it also doubles as a copier and scanner via either flatbed or a document feeder. Of note, this is a home printer so the max you can use with the document feeder and in the paper tray will be more limited than the printer at most offices and a 100 page capacity should be fine for home use. Setup was not the easiest I’ve experienced with newer printers. I personally have enjoyed the setup process on the Epson line of printers the most. You can either follow on screen instructions for setting up and connecting your printer to your wireless network. There was a bug (or maybe just poor app design) during the setup process in which the app forced me back to the first step in the setup process. I thought that the connecting process had timed out while connecting to Wi-Fi, or the app disconnected. What I didn’t realize is that the printer was now in-fact connected to my network, but I kept selecting the option to “connect printer to network” at the first option screen I was forced back to instead of selecting the “search for printer on network option” because I thought the app had glitched. If this design was intentional, I imagine a bunch of angry users could end up in the same situation during setup. As for printing, it’s fine. It prints documents quickly and legibly. For photos it’s decent, not my favorite. I’m also not a fan of HP endlessly pushing their Instant Ink program. Not everything needs to have a subscription tied to it, especially not my printer. HP has been very good at wireless document scanning for a few years now. As long as you download the iPhone or the PC companion app, you can live scan directly to your computer over Wi-Fi and save the document directly to your device. You’ll basically be relying on this since the printer lacks one big feature. What I don’t like is that there is not an SD card slot nor a USB port on the device to scan directly to or directly print from. It feels like a big oversight if you’re going to tout it as a photo printing machine, but I guess most people only take photos with their phones anyways so it may not be that big a deal to most. Another minor ding against it is the small touch screen on it, but again, I imagine they want a majority of the settings and configuration to take place within their mobile or desktop apps. Overall, this printer is competitively priced, looks great and offers a decent number of features for the price. Connectivity is lacking compared to what I’m personally used to, and the screen interface is a bit small. HP also tries to push you towards their ink delivery subscription. But overall, this printer will get the job done and look good doing it.

    The HP Cute 6455e printer

The HP Envy 6455e printer. It’s a really cute printer. Check out my picture! Setting up this printer was fairly straightforward. You just plug it in, download the HP Smart app, and you're ready to go. The app guides you through the process. From Windows, you just select it when you’re done configuring it with the app whether on Windows or on your phone. For everyday printing tasks like documents and homework, it performs just fine. The print quality is decent and the speed was good for text documents. The wireless printing works as expected. Being able to print from my phone or laptop without dealing with cables is a significant plus. This printer is compatible with HP's Instant Ink, which as a subscription has gotten a lot of flak. It's actually really convenient not having to worry about running out of ink unexpectedly, it’s month to month and it doesn’t cost that much. On one of our other printers, we pay $1.99 a month. People get so uptight about a subscription plan, but seriously, it’s CHEAPER than getting carts every couple of months. We don’t print enough to keep a print head healthy but with the Instant Ink plan, we don’t have to worry about it very much. One quirk to be aware of is the paper tray. You need to remember to extend it manually to catch your prints, or you might find your documents on the floor. When I pulled it out, I thought it would be more than the small stick of a paper guide. I wish that it was more substantial. I imagine this part will break sometime. The scanner is quite capable, with an automatic document feeder that's handy for multi-page documents. The scan quality is sufficient for most everyday purposes. It’s not the fastest scanner, and I couldn’t get it to do double sided. I do like how it looks on my table. I think that is one of the best things about the Envy line from HP. However, Envy doesn’t seem to make sense as a name as when it was part of the Voodoo line that HP bought. They could have easily called it HP Cute 6455e. Or maybe just HP Cute. Overall, the HP Envy 6455e is a decent all-in-one printer for home use that will look really good if you leave it out in your living room or main living area. If you don't print large volumes and you're comfortable with the Instant Ink program, it's worth considering.

    Premium HP "Envy" Printer

I've set up just about every printer brand out there, and HP consistently gets it right. The HP Envy 6555e was easy to install and setup and took me about 10-15 minutes to get it up and running on my Wi-Fi without a single issue. HP always nails the setup process, which is one of the reasons I stick with their products. When it comes to quality, HP’s Envy line is top of the line. In my opinion, it’s one of the most premium brands for home and consumer printing needs. The design of the Envy 6555e is sleek and elegant (especially for a printer). The goldish tones give it a classy look, and the build quality is excellent—everything is perfectly aligned, and it just feels well-built compared to other brands. I’m really impressed by the variety of features this printer offers. One of my favorites is the auto-reconnect for Wi-Fi. If the connection is lost or the printer has been off for a while, it reconnects on its own without any hassle—something I’ve never seen in other brands, which usually stay disconnected after a long period of inactivity. Another great feature is that the Envy 6555e is made from 60% recycled material, and you’d never know it. I’m usually worried of quality when recycled materials are involved, but HP proved me wrong here as it feels premium. For connectivity, there’s a USB 2.0 port available (though note that the cable isn’t included), but no Ethernet port. Personally, I think an Ethernet port is more important than a USB 2.0 port, especially in households where a stable wired connection might be preferred. There’s also no USB Type-A or C port, which is a feature I miss for quick printing from a flash drive. However, this is mostly solved with wireless printing from any device, including phones. The document scanner on the top is a required feature for me. It holds up to 35 sheets, which is perfect for scanning documents and making it efficient. The bottom paper tray holds 100 sheets of regular paper. While I wish it held a bit more, I appreciate that it keeps the paper stored out of sight and protected from dust. The colored touchscreen is another must-have for me when selecting a printer, and the screen on the 6555e is a definite upgrade from previous models. It’s small, but it’s high-quality and works really well for navigating through options. Lastly, HP offers a 3-month free trial of their Instant Ink subscription service, which has a variety of plans based on your needs. It’s a great option to explore if you want the convenience of ink delivery before you run out. The HP Envy 6555e combines solid design, reliability, and great features, making it an excellent choice for home or small office use.

    Not The Best Printer Around

When I got this printer, I was expecting a little more than what I got. Let's talk about the good. This printer sets up very easily with the downloaded app which walks you step by step through the process. I didn't have any issues there. When I printed an article with photos, the colors were very vibrant and mostly true to what I saw on my screen. This printer also does automatic double sided through the app so you don't have to manually turn the paper over to get that feature. It does it by itself which I really like. The issues, I had are that even if you are printing black and white, this printer is slower than others I've had in the past. The paper try looks like it holds more than it actually does, which was disappointing. The paper scanner on top doesn't hold as many sheets as I thought it would either and even with paper correctly loaded in it, I still could not get it to scan from there and I haven't been able to figure out why. Also, I'm not a fan of the paper catch arm. When printing large photos, the paper bends on this arm even when it's all the way out in the proper position. I definitely wouldn't use it for photos you need to keep flat. This won't work. But other than that this printer is great. It is very quiet.
