Set it up with mobile device for sanity's sake
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HP has been around for a good long time. I've used tons of their products mostly at work this is the first new home laser I've had in many years. Had to replace my last laser when the mice decided to get inside it and destroy things. Never bought one with this requirement to connect to the internet but for the price it was worth a try. For the sake of your own sanity don't set it up with your desktop, set it up with your cell phone or tablet. I messed with this for two days on my windows 11 pc could not get anyplace getting it setup. Either win 11 is still having issues which would not be surprising or the mobile app is just that much better. Put your cell phone on the same wifi you plan to use the printer on in your office/home. My first hassle I had was that the email I used for my old hp account is no longer available to me and the pc setup did not have an option for no longer accessible email address. Not sure exactly why but when I setup on my cell phone I got past this problem, shouldn't complain I guess I thought for sure I was going to have to find a human to get this going. After I was finally able to get through setup using my android device then it finally became online via the pc. You have to run the hp app on each device you wish to print from. The fastest way to get the printer into setup mode is to unplug it for a few minutes then plug it back in. You may need to press the infinitesimally tiny button on top of the wifi light to get it to connect to wifi. My computer has built in wifi but it is connected by cable to my router, you may or may not have to disable your onboard wifi chip when setting up this printer. When printing from your desktop pc you will likely need to select hp smart as the printer and not the printer itself. The instructions they have in the box are next to worthless. Print quality is decent, I really don't print but I do it enough that I need a printer in the house. You get six months of free toner service after that you're given a choice of how much you print which determines the price, toner is expensive I don't think 1.99 a month is excessive when they'll auto ship a fresh cartridge when you get low and setup recycling as well apparently. I really hated to take two stars off them for the setup hassles but it was quite annoying and the next to zero documentation in their book just made it more annoying.

Great Quality With Side Effects
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really want to like the HP LaserJet M209dwe Printer. Just looking at the quality of the print and the versatility it has, It is what you would expect from an HP printer. However, it is the extras that left me a less enthusiastic about this printer. Out of the box, set up is easy. There is really nothing special that you need to know. You can hook it up to your home network via Ethernet connection or you can choose to use it wirelessly through a Wi-Fi connection. All you do is pull the printer out, remove all the packing, plug it in, and install the software. This can then run on a Windows machine, Mac, or smartphone for your printing needs. My devices had no problems finding the printer. I was quickly able to print. The printer is monochrome, but it does have automatic two-sided printing which is nice. This printer should work well with small businesses, home, or student use. Letterhead and fine print come out clear and images look crisp as well. So this would work well for reports or other documents that you may need. If you haven’t gotten an HP printer in a while, there are a few things to familiarize yourself with though. First is HP+. This is a system which monitors your printer. If you sign up for it, you get a warrantee of 2 years instead of one on your printer. However, you will need to only use Original HP Toner with your printer, and you must maintain your printer with an Internet connection. You also become eligible to use the HP+ InstantInk which is a subscription toner service. You get the first six moths of toner for free, but after that you are on a subscription plan. You select how many pages per month you plan to use and then HP bills you each month for the use. In return, when you run low on toner, they send you a new toner cartridge with no additional cost. You do need to put in your credit card information even to get the free six months though. This means you need to keep track of passwords and credit cards on file for when credit cards need updated or you stop using your printer and need to cancel the service so they don’t keep charging you. You can cancel at any time or change your plan as you like. But this is just an extra thing to do as opposed to just going and buying toner like you always did. The printer is not portable, but it does try to describe itself as compact. The listed dimensions are 10.5 inches high by 14 inches wide. The length is not mentioned though. That is because once you extend the paper tray to its useful position it 16 inches long. You can remove the paper tray and fold everything back but that means every time you want to use the printer, you need to extend the paper tray and load paper. That kind of defeats the purpose of trying to keep the printer compact. The duty cycle on the printer is listed at 20,000 pages per month. So, this printer should be able to keep up with most office applications. However, the tray capacity is only 150 sheets. This seems a bit low for a LaserJet printer. So even if you do half of the duty cycle, you will fill the tray several times a day. I would prefer a bigger paper tray which was enclosed as opposed to the open sided tray that this one has. The output tray can hold up to 100 documents before needing to be cleared. However, the output tray requires a pull-out extension to prevent all the documents from ending up on the floor. This means if you want to print on an instant without going to the printer first, this extension must be pulled out. That is fine but it creates a piece that can be broken by someone walking by and catching something on the piece. I have had that happen before and it is annoying. As I have explained, I am really mixed on this HP LaserJet M209dwe printer. The quality is great, and the printer should meet nearly all needs of those needing a LaserJet printer. While I would recommend this to a friend, I would do it with some additional explanation. I would want them to be sure of everything they were getting. I have had several HP printers in the past and this one is better that the others. With the ability to print, copy, and scan, it can handle much of my needs. I recommend this printer to anyone looking for a quality All-in-One ink jet printer.

Unnecessary subscription service

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used a printer cord to connect to the computer. Worked for a week and now it will not print. Just makes a little noise like it wants to print. No information available on what to do. Printer specs say W-Fi or cord connection. I do not want a W-Fi connection

Extremely Difficult WiFi Connection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This fast, reliable printer would get 5 stars if it weren't so agonizingly difficult to connect to WiFi. Without a screen, you're reliant on HP Smart, which isn't. More often than not it cannot detect the device, making connecting to a new router or re-connecting after it goes offline (which it does for any number of reasons) extremely difficult and time-consuming.
