It’s fine the pages aren’t as clear and crisp as I would like but there could be a setting I’m not aware of. Easy to use!

I got this for a great price (almost half off) and although it’s been a while, I trust HP printers. I like how easy it was to unbox, plug in, and use. And all of the displays and panels are pretty self-explanatory. I’m also thrilled to have a Laserjet again for the print quality and longterm economy. (We have every little need for a color printer). To be honest, yes, I need to print things now and again, but it’s the scanner that indispensible when I need it. Haven’t tried it yet, but I don’t expect any issues. I did not enjoy the experience of registering the product and getting set up on the app. It’s not seamless, I don’t see much value in it, and the connection between my phone and the printer is spotty. Annoying. But printing from my laptop is hassle free, which for me is the more likely use case.

--- SETUP --- The setup of the HP printer was quick. However, I did encounter a problem in which I couldn’t get the “printer details” (as per the app). Therefore, I wasn’t able to use the print from phone features nor scanning from a computer. That wasn’t necessary for me to use the printer for wireless printing from my computer, though. --- FEATURES --- The key features are wireless printing, double-sided printing, laser black and white only printing quality, and a prefilled toner that lasts 2 years. --- PERFORMANCE --- This printer was able to print a 24 page double-sided document of mostly text and the occasional full page image in about 2 minutes. The print quality is excellent for my emerging bilingual readers. It wasn’t loud in comparison to full size office printers. --- EXPECTATIONS --- The product meets my expectations. I work as a teacher and our school provides full size printers. However, anyone who is a teacher knows that those full size printers jam more often than not or they are always busy with other teachers. My role this year requires me to have a smaller group of students. I often need to print about 20-30 4 page packets. This printer is more than capable of doing so in a timely manner and it's compact enough that I can have it in my small office without it occupying so much space. The document feeder is great for making physical copies. I wasn’t able to test the bed scanner because the printer’s app from both the iPhone's App Store and from the Microsoft Store would get stuck when trying to install all the features. Scanning is not high on the priority of things I intend to use it for, but it should be mentioned if that is what you’re looking for in an all in one printer. --- VALUE --- The price for the DEVICE in terms of value is offset by the fact that you wouldn’t have to invest in any toner for 2 years or up to 5000 printed pages, whichever you reach first. --- APPROVAL --- This printer is highly recommended for small businesses or teachers that only need printing black and white documents.

    An Almost Perfect Printer

Imagine a world where printers never needed their toners or cartridges replaced when their levels were low or empty. Doesn’t exist, right? Well imagine a world where printers didn’t need ink replaced for as long as 720 days. Two years. The LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw is that printer, and boy am I glad it’s finally here. The MFP 2604sdw is a fairly simple printer; it’s a standard printer and scanner/copy machine. It doesn’t have a nice color LED display, but a simple LCD screen that shows # of copies you’d like to make. There’s a dedicated “Start Copy” button for when you’re ready to start copying, and there’s even a dedicated “ID Card Copy” for when you need to scan booklet docs like a passport or similar. As far as scanning, it has two modes of scanning: a document feeder and a scanner glass. The only thing holding this thing from being absolutely perfect is the ability to do 2-sided scanning. Dang, that would have been nice. Everything else is just basic printing, either from your PC/Mac or your mobile phone. Most operating systems detect the printer just fine via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. For an initial setup, I decided to use my mobile phone using the HP Smart App; I simply chose the “Add Printer” button on the app and followed directions. The printer was ready and set up within 5 minutes. Whether you choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the printer will be discoverable in your network, and easily added as a printer to your PC/Mac. This printer is not the fastest this side of the Mississippi, but it’s definitely fast. At 23ppm, that’s plenty fast. In contrast, I have another HP printer that is doing 28ppm, but I can’t honestly tell unless I’m really staring at the printer. 2-sided printing is always a big plus as it helps save sheets of paper, and this printer is fully capable of doing it. The paper tray looks to hold about a little over half a ream of paper. Again, the scanner has two modes, document feeder and scanner glass. The document feeder can support a maximum of 300dpi and the glass can support 600dpi. 300dpi is plenty for everyday scanning of documents. 600dpi is good for scanning photos. Duplex scanning is missed here as a lot of documents can also be printed on both sides. There are ways to achieve 2-sided scanning with a single sided scanner, but the HP Smart software doesn’t support it, and HP Scan and Capture doesn’t even work with this printer as it just causes the printer to freeze. I had to take a star off for that. So I’ll most likely use the scanner bed for photo scanning or documents that are too thick for the feeder, and use another dedicated scanner for duplex scanning. Typically, printer ink/toner is not the cheapest. Oftentimes, we find ourselves just buying a new printer because it ends up being cheaper than buying replacement ink. I was already dreading the pending doom of buying more ink for a printer like this. But for under $30, you can purchase genuine HP toner for this printer, and it will yield approximately 5000 pages. Simply amazing. Speaking of replenishing the toner on this printer, it’s a lot different than replacing an inkjet cartridge or toner. Similar to how you fill your car with gasoline, you actually have to fill your printer with ink. There is a compartment underneath the scanner glass that gives you access to the ink cap. What’s crazy is that the ink cap is actually locked by the printer itself and will not unlock itself until it thinks it's ready for more ink. Now on the front of the printer is a large ink gauge (like a fuel gauge) that shows ink levels. It has three main segments, two long segments and a short segment. When a long segment is gone (unlit), then the printer will allow the ink cap to be unlocked and you can add more ink. Each segment is equivalent to one 153A Reload kit ($16.99). If two long segments are gone from the indicator, then you can load two 153A Reload kits, or one 153X High Yield Reload kit ($27.99). The last short segment is pretty much telling you that you’re low on ink. Once you’re all topped off, the printer will relock the ink cap and you’re good to go for a long, long while. So there’s the question of color prints; this printer does not support any color printing, but here’s my take on it. I think that this printer should be a daily driver or workhorse printer, and you should have an additional color printer for those times when you do need a color print or even a nice photo printed. The money you’ll save on ink will far exceed the cost of an additional color printer. My thoughts, anyway. Then there’s the scanner, which does everything well except for those moments when you need duplex scanning. If this printer didn’t have the scanner piece, I would give it a perfect score (and I think they do sell it without the scanner option). Overall, I highly recommend this printer.

    Great Office Printer/Scanner

The HP 2604 LaserJet printer is an allround office solution. The printer has this simple design and the gray and white color will match any office decor. It was very easy to set up and no ink installation was required. Just pull it out of the box, plug in to the power, download the HP smart app and add your printer. This printer can be used via USB, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, or it can be connected via network. I was able to install it on my Windows PC without the app and Android OS using the app. There is a caveat with the Windows OS, you will be required to download the HP Smart app to be able to use all the printer’s capabilities. I was not able to use the scanner without the HP smart app. I tried using it with Windows' own app and the printer would hang. I am not sure if it's a glitch that will be patched later on but it’s something I encountered. Also, on the Windows OS you're not able to scan using HP's own app unless you create an HP account, which I found troublesome. Basically owning the device and using their proprietary application is not enough that you have to create an account to use basic features. Using the mobile application on Android I was able to use all the features of the printer without creating an account. There are two ways to scan, using the automatic feeder on the top or the glass. The glass supports paper size up to A4 or Letter 8.5x11. With the ADF you can scan legal size documents. It seems that this scanner supports dual side scan automatically but I couldn’t get that to work. Although the software actually asked me to turn that feature on, it did not work. I even try by turning on the Duplex in the advanced settings and nothing. When scanning you have to manually select the source as the printer is not smart enough to figure where the document is located. Scanning quality is good but it’s limited to 600 dpi and that’s using the glass. The scanning speed was fast and very quiet. Printing is a breeze and it does it really fast with good quality. This printer holds up to 250 sheets of paper on the paper tray. I kind of like how the actual tray is hidden under the control panel which also acts as a cover. You can either pull down a front latch cover to refill the papers or lift the screen cover. Refiling paper is super easy. The control panel has a 1x1 black and white LCD screen and several buttons. It only displays several settings like paper count, brightness and other common features. If you want to scan an ID real quick, there’s an ID dedicated button for that. On the front you have an ink level indicator as well. There is something different about this LaserJet printer, you're not required to change the toner cartridge. This printer works with refills which cost less than buying an actual cartridge. The refill port is located under the scanner. Besides the few glitches I encountered this printer is a great device for an office setup, even for home if you don't need color printing. This is an HP printer and they are reliable. It does the job well, quiet, fast and it’s cost efficient to maintain. The printer already comes prefilled with ink and the manufacturer claims it can last up to two years. In the box you get the printer, power cord and manuals.

Review of LaserJet Tank 2604sdw. The LaserJet Tank is a multifunction printer allowing to Print, Scan, Copy and connect wireless. Its print in letter size put to 23 ppm, automatic duplex printing. It has automatically on/off based on the usage, and long list of feature via HP Smart App. As per manufacturing specification it print up to 5,0000 monochrome pages. Full specification at its site https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-laserjet-tank-mfp-2604sdw-printer#techSpecs. Its actual setting and connecting to the network wirelessly or wired is quite standard closed to most commonly used in the market. Printing from the mobile phone is quite simple as well. Upon selection of the document, from the phone itself can detect automatically the new printer, and allowing to select and print without major or to none of hassle. The functionalities are packed and centered in the Smart App, and that is good. However, it feels bit overwhelmed as in order to find some specific functionality need to navigate around or it takes bit of long time to know each of functions. As result during scanning or printing takes some moment to find where to change some of common setting previous to actual print or scanning. One of few cool thing to note, is for instance from the tablet, can control what to scan and saved directed in the same tablet. However, I couldn’t find a way to set such that if I scan, store it in a specific cloud storage. Not sure if I need to drill into further functionalities for such function. Then as one thing that surface immediately is the noise while scanning to print. It does quite noticeable noise as if a big empty plastic box has a engine inside and moving alone. Aside of above description, I find it practical and suitable for small office or at home that need heavy non color printing.

Print quality is good and the speed is as expected if printing single sided. However, when duplex printing the time per page is about 3-4 longer. It will also pause when printing more than 10 pages and that can slow down bigger projects. I don't use the printer daily, but I have had a few problems where the printer is "offline" from a Windows 11 PC even though it shows to be connected to the wifi. Turning the printer off and on again solves the problem, but it would be nice to have it always ready.

Pros: Great Price, Prints fast and the quality is good for a home office printer. Cons: Printer is a little noisy, When I tried to automatically connect to my wireless home network it would not connect. I found out that my network was set up on 5g and you have to have a 2.4g network for it to connect automatically. If you go into the actual printer wireless modem settings you can manually set it up for a 5g network. After finding that out everything is working perfect.

Once I got it going it DOES WORK and we'll see if it is affordable in the long run. I was once an all in HP printing guy but then came HP's campaign to have us all spending lots on ink!! I do not have many ink jet printers and I'm back trying HP laser printers. This one seems to have the features (double-sided printing, scanning, wireless) I want so when I saw you can refill the toner tank as well - I'm sold!! The set up was clumsy at best but I persevered and got it connected wirelessly to our network. Quality seems OK but nothing special. I hope that HP's toner is affordable but don't know as of now.

Easy Manual Setup Directions. Only feature used so far that can be frustrating is having to consistently reconnect to it wirelessly while providing access to devices location, blutooth and nearby share programs as well as manually wake and reconnect the printer each time by physically having to touch the screen to accept connection.

It wasn’t the easiest to set up for me. That’s why I’m giving it four stars. Once it was set up it works great. I did not need color. That’s why I purchased a black and white. I haven’t done a printing yet, so I do not know the quality of the ink. We haven’t done a lot of copying yet. The wife wanted one that she could hook up to her phone wi-Fi so she could print off recipes so right now that’s where we’re at only had it a week.

This printer was pretty easy to setup. It prints clear and quick. A huge plus is that unlike inkjet printers you don't have to pront a lot to keep the cartridge from clogging. I also liked that it came with a 2yr supply of ink. The only negative so far is that when scanning from the feeder the paper doesn't feed without angling a bit.

So far so good. I would say 5* on the tank feature, which was the selling point. Lots of copies before ever needing to think about ink. And even then, no hassle with cartridges. I gave this an overall 4* because I find the HP to be poor, and it is necessary to use for setup or to reestablish WiFi connections.
