Paper catcher - terrible design
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The paper catcher holds just a few sheets of 8x11 before it starts feeding back into the printer. Totally inadequate for some heavy duty work (more than a few sheets). HP chat was helpful but says that is the way it works. So we made a modification to hold a stack of printouts. Never seen anything like this before.

Stop working
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was so happy with this purchase that I recommended it to several people that end up buying it. The moment my warranty expired I start having issues. Certain colors won’t print when they are full and I can’t get help. So frustrating.

Okay printer at a price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this printer primarily to print packing slips and labels. For plain paper printing is okay- is a bit slow. The paper tray seems rather touchy- it doesn’t feed well. Printing adhesive labels is a nightmare. Is louder and slower than the ancient hp 2175 it replaced. The construction seems flimsy too- the paper tray does not seem durable. Setup was simple enough. I dont know I would buy another one thougj

Great printer, if you’re not pressed for time.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, it prints great quality documents and pictures. Second, EVERY SINGLE PAGE the printer pauses at least 3 times during the print, and then there’s a long pause 30-45 seconds before the next page starts. This is hands down the slowest printer I’ve ever owned. I’m very disappointed with the time it takes, especially for the price paid.

Connection issues, ink issues, a major pain
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I want to say that I purchased this printer after reading a ton of positive reviews and based on my great experience with my old OfficeJet printer that lasted for years and always provided excellent quality prints and scans. I was 100% confident in my purchase of this product, now I wish I had never bought it. I have had nothing but problems from the day I got it home. I did not want to connect to my wi-fi (and I have excellent wi-fi speed with boosters all over my home that were professionally installed by my carrier). Then, it didn't want to connect to my Dell computer. After many HP support chats, I finally got the thing set up, but it won't stay connected to my laptop. I'm constantly having to run the HP Smart Troubleshoot and repair it to get it to reconnect to my computer. I'm replacing the ink for the first time, using a generic ink from a brand that I have always used and trust well. I just put the new ink cartridges in the printer gave me an error message "Cartridges Rejected", "The indicated cartridges have been identified as altered or cloned", "HP+ Printers require Original HP cartridges. Replace the non-original cartridges to continue printing"!!!! Now, if you don't mind all of this, this print quality is good, and the scan quality is good. I haven't had any trouble with paper jams either. Mechanically, it's a well-built printer and worth the money. That is if you want to spend all of your money on overpriced ink and all of your time fighting to constantly reconnect it to your non-HP computer! So for Value, I'm rating this a 1 because they expect you to spend all of your money on HP supplies, including the computer that you connect it to. Quality, I'll rate it a 4 because when you are able to print or scan, the quality that you would expect from an OfficeJet is there, but I'm very disappointed with the time that I have to spend to get it to produce. For Ease of use, I would rate it a 0 if I could. Would I recommend this product, as I stated, only if you have a newer HP computer and are willing to spend the money on HP supplies, including paper.

Not what is used to be
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am disappointed in the quality of the actual printer /device. For many years I had a version of this printer that I used for work and it was outstanding. This product prints well but I need to open the tray often to put in physical checks to print and the tray is always getting stuck. I would not recommend unless you barely use the printer to which case a cheaper version probably would be enough.

Cheaply made.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very cheaply made. Paper tray is difficult to get in and out or just sliding. Very thin recycled plastic parts. Back light on control panel does not shut down. Stays light all the time. Very annoying at night. Have to shut unit off. Very disappointed in crafting of this machine. Will not hold out for 10 years like my previous model. Overall for what I paid not worth the money.

Poor quality unless you use the actual hp paper
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is constantly making noise which is apparently just makibg adjustments or tuning itself every time I move it. Don't bother with the free paper it has poor print quality and don't bother signing up for the free ink plan unless you print excessive amounts. I joined for the 6 month free ink and wound up with 1 free replacement ink which often printed badly and before that ink was used much the plan was time to expire, so I canceled and didn't realize that upon canceling they lock those cartriges so you can't use them anymore and have to either re join to make them work or go out and buy new ones. That's just ignorant and wrong. It was free ink it should have worked until enpty. Won't v Bother with trying that again since I don't print often enough...

Terrible paper Tray
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had it for around a month. A couple of times I had to wait near 5 minutes for it to print as it seemed to be thinking while making noise. The worst part is the paper tray. Not easy to get in and out to load. If you're like me and have to add special paper now and then, you will not like this printer.

Thumbs Down
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not very impressed with this printer. Was not easy to set up and still not sure I have it set up correctly. The help line is of no help. Paper tray does not slide out easily and the whole machine seems to be very temperamental.

Poor feeder
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros; easy to use AirPrint, sits beautifully on desk, good quality pages, very good customer service. Cons: noisy, needs an account to really work well, feeder jams every 2 pages, granted papers were previously folded in letter style, the free ink program is confusing. Free Ink: I ended up canceling as I realized the free ink required me to make phone calls to initialize the ink tracking process after I enrolled. My PC account said it couldn’t read remaining ink days. That’s how the ink auto replenishes, The free ink apparently comes with a chip that communicates with my account about pages printed and ink levels. The app knew what the ink levels were. That same chip can be used to stop your prints once you leave the free ink program. The ink cartridges look like they need to be returned once empty and once the program ends. This was not for me. It doesn’t meet my needs, it took me some time to figure it out. I am outside the return policy.

Posted .Hi there.
Thanks for the review and the description of your experience so far. While I’m glad you’ve found your printer easy to use and like its print quality as well as HP customer service, I’m sorry you’ve encountered trouble with the document feeder and our Instant Ink program. I want to help you understand what’s going on with the device and remedy the feeder issue. I hope the information and resources below will help.
First, I recommend you follow the steps in this guide to document feeders that pull through too many pages at once or fail to pick up paper at all:
- support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01728503
You might also find it helpful to check out this support document regarding how to best store and handle paper to avoid jams:
- support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04518237
Regarding Instant Ink, as you probably know, it’s a printing plan in which you choose the number of pages you would like to print monthly, and you are billed on a monthly interval. Replacement cartridges are shipped as needed based on usage. The cartridges let HP know this via the internet connection. Instant Ink is optional, and you can cancel if you find that it does not fit your needs. Once you do this, the Instant Ink cartridges will no longer work in your printer, but at that point you’re free to purchase cartridges from your preferred retailer at your convenience.
If the feeder problem persists or you want more information about Instant Ink, I suggest you contact us directly. HP+ printers such as yours come with exclusive concierge support. To call and reach live HP+ experts, visit the following URL and enter your HP+ serial number:

Only if you want a headache
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good golly, what a pain! So many apps to download to get it to print bc one stops working, after signing up for the instant ink and putting the new ink in it will not print. Had to go buy ink and send all instant ink back. Doesn’t print correctly. White backgrounds print red back grounds. This thing is a nightmare. Good luck finding a store with ink in stock.

Cheap, poorly designed printer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything seems to be good until it’s time to print..that’s where the problem begins. The printing is good, but it takes along two to three sheets of paper along with the one printing. Had I not missed the return date, this hunk of plastic would have been returned. I do not recommend this model.

A fan of HP printers, but can't recommend this one
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this printer in a hurry b/c my old HP, which had lasted over 10 years, suddenly bit the dust. I should've done more research. 9 out of 10 times when I need to print something, the printer goes through "Printer Maintenance" first. Forget printing something if you are in a hurry. My other complaint is the ink cartridges are small, so I find myself needing to buy ink far too often. Final complaint - and this one may be user error on my part - is that if I print a 15 page document, the pages come out backwards, meaning page 15 is on top and page 1 is at the bottom of the pile. I like HP printers, I'm just not a huge fan of this model.

HP is a Data Farm
|Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a home with many devices attempting to connect to this printer. HP Smart is the bane of my existence. I purchased this printer to replace an Officejet 8610 that lasted over 10 years. HP Smart requires copious amounts of personal information to set up, asks that you make an account and provide a phone number in order to simply scan a document using the feed tray, and obscures the ability to withhold personal information. HP has always been a bit of a shady company, but the fact that I must provide you with my full name, email, and phone number is just atrocious. HP doesn't make money off of their products, they make it by selling your information. Similar practices can be found on their laptops which I'd review into the ground if I had ever purchased one. After over a week of troubleshooting with HP support I've still only managed to get one device set up through HP smart, and I have a strong background in consumer IT. Buy an epson or something that isn't HP.

Purchaser
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared to my old 8600 series which is no longer available, this new printer is chintzy in construction. It does produce a decent copy quickly, but I don't like the location (left side) of the menu window nor its touchiness. For my home use, it will suffice, but it doesn't thrill me like the older and superior model.

Beware of printers with Instant ink Subscription.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These HP printers are a racket. You are put into their Smart category and instead of buying ink, you pay 10 cents a page for every page you print. When I realized this I cancelled the Smart subscription and now am buying my own ink. It was on sale for a very discounted price, which is why I bought it, but the HP Rep who was in the Best Buy store did not tell me the truth about the potential cost of printing a lot of pages. It seems to be working ok now, but have had problems getting it to connect to my computer wirelessly.
