the last laptop that i had was the hp pavillion 17 inch laptop which died in 2012 (because of human error not the laptop it self) and then since then untill now i didnt feel the need of owning a laptop anymore and decided to build quite powerfull desktop instead. short long story i finaally feel the need of having a laptop in order to be able to edit my video on the go while im waiting to pickup my 5 yr old son to get off school because i dont feel like driving back home for 9 miles and then have to go back pick him up in less than 3 hours its just a waste of gas and energy then time! so one day i went to bestbuy to look for a laptop and came across the omen and i thought wow what quite a nice looking laptop you are. then i played with it at the store for a little bit to see is this the one that im looking for or not. the spec is pretty good although for what i do (4k video editing) the 8gb of ram is kind of short but hey i though i could add more ram in case i really have to add more since the laptop it self was on sale for 849usd and i was gonna spend max 1100 for a laptop so id still have some money left for upgrade. even when i was playing with it at the store i was kind of dissapointed with the screen but again you cant expect too much out of 1100 gaming laptop left alone 2 in 1 laptop if portability is more important to you. so i was like F it, Im getting this.lol so got home with it, setup the omen and was surprisingly went pretty quick, not too much bloatware if i can still remember so i never bother uninstalling anything, yes anything! the spec that i had was i7 7700hq 8gb of ram with gtx550ti then 15inch 1080p ips screen with well.. okay viewing angle but might stop a professional video or photo editor to get one just because of this aspect although all of the hardwares under the hood are good at least on the paper. so i used the laptop for almost a week, editing one video project which has mixed between 1080p and 4k clips then some overlays stacked on top of them then 2 adjustment layers which has the lumetri color added and so on... yeah it is pretty intense task for a laptop to do, even when using proxy editing the cpu was hitting 100 percent like 90 percent of the time. did it get the job done?absolutelly. the laptop never crashed or freeze, the only noticeable performance difference was when i ran it on battery only, my playback on some scenes were kind of laggy or choppy then back to normal again when i plug in to the wall. iam pretty sure the cpu and gpu kind off throttling down in order to preserve the battery or prevent the cpu and gpu from over heating i guess, but dont take it from me iam not a computer expert iam just reporting what i experienced. i never ran a test to see the temp, voltage speed of the cpu and stuff anyways because i wasnt using it for gaming so i was just like let see if the laptop would crash or freeze when i edit my video which it never done it not even once! and then.. almost a week after using it i just couldnt get over how not good the screen is.. the color accuracy is pretty bad imo. maybe im just so used to edit on my samsung 4k 43inch tv (i know its a dang tv and the color accuracy is not there either) but it was just not good to me. i promisse i tried to like it and told my self this is just to edit on the go but i couldnt convince my self hard enough and decided to exchange it with something more powerfull and better screen overall but still in 1080p. so my conclusiion are, this laptop surelywill almost best bang for your buck for a under 1000 usd gaming laptop although the screen is just okay, some game that i tried on it like rise of tomb raider and forza horizon kinda look good enough though! but if you edit video or photos like me, i dont think youd want to settle with this laptop iam sorry to tell you this. but like i said dont take it from me because everybody is different. try it at the store first i suggest you. the build quality is good, not too much flex on the screen. although it mostly plastic, but it doesnt really feel that cheap thanks to its color and design. it is light enough to take everywhere and will fit most 15inch laptop backpak like my lowepro fastpack aw250. it start up really fast under 10 second and the battery last pretty good depends on what your doing on it although i pug it in most of the time because i edit continuously for 2 and half hour while waiting for my son to get otff from school. if i wanted to use it solely for gaming only or watching movies or browsing, id deff keeping it no doubt but for video editing i just cant be happy enough with the screen. i hope this help thanks and good luck. oh if theres anybody wondering what kind of video i edit well my youtube name is denny ordinary.

I just got this laptop on a Friday (by the next Tuesday I returned it), unboxed it and loved it right away. First time buying an HP. The design was amazing; it didn't heat up unless it was plugged in the AC adapter while playing moderate games. Super fast computer, great storage, overall great everything. The only two things that killed me was the battery life (which in a gaming laptop what did you expect) 1 hour max right out of the box, and the display. The display wasn't all that great, it lacked of brightness and also the worst part, it had light bleed on the bottoms corners. I then proceeded to investigate if this was a normal thing or not; however, what I found was that this series Omen 2017 had issues with it screens. I was bummed because it was an awesome laptop, but I had to returned to the store because of these two things that really bugged me.

So far I have really enjoyed this laptop. It comes in a nice box with easy setup instructions. It has a very nice look to it with the large X on the top with a red trim and matte black with carbon fiber (fake of course). The keys light up with a lot of satisfaction with three settings: off, WASD, and all the lights on. The wasd keys are lit in white to make them easier to find. It takes a very short amount of time for this laptop to start up from a powered down state (after the very first startup). It is very quiet so long as you’re not running an extremely demanding game. But I was able to maintain solid 60fps on larger games with higher graphical settings and with certain MMOs I was reaching an easy 120 fps with no issue. This laptop has a 9 hour battery life if you’re doing very minimal things, but if you’re running a game be sure to plug it in. I was a little disappointed to find out that the screen was only 1080p supportive, but we just haven’t reached that point where that stuff is cheap enough. I also wish it came with a touch screen as well because my other laptops are and it just seemed a bit primitive. This is a very sleek machine but is a little large and you won’t be able to fit it into the laptop slot in a backpack. So I often carried it in my hands to and from classes when I took it to school. To leave off with some final words, I’d say this is definitely a good machine and in my opinion worth what I paid for it.

Using this as a re-entry gaming pc, and meeting my expectations so far. Runs Wolfenstein New Colossus and Overwatch looking better than on the Xbox One. Haven’t pushed its limits yet, but very solid so far for the relatively low price point.

Speed is blazing fast and the graphic card is great. Only problem is the battery lasting for less than 3 hours, not my idea of a great laptop. Good but not great...worth the price.

I had been searching on and off for a new laptop after mine decided it was time. Anyway, I picked up an open box i5 with a GTX 1050 from another brand. I got it home and just wasn't happy with it's speed. While doing my daily search, I came upon the OMEN on sale. It had an i7, 1050ti, NVME and traditional. Little bit more than I wanted to spend, but then I found an open box certified one, winner. I upgraded the ram to 16gb, and have been extremely happy with it. Love the looks, speed, keyboard, battery life is meh. It's not the fastest thing with games, but then it's a budget gaming laptop. No touchscreen, but that isn't a dealbreaker for me, I have enough smudges on my glasses. I don't need any on my screen. This will serve my purposes for the next few years, with upgrades of the drives.

I bought this as a "open box" item, that was supposed to be in perfect shape, and certainly looked untouched... well drove 1 hour to get it at a best buy, got home and the "F" key was totally a mess, when you pushed any button it was a "F" lol, well I'd normally be mad but when to my local best buy store, they called the store who sold it to me with bad "f" key, and the other store credited my local store with $200 more so they just gave me a brand new "non" open box one... so my mood went from unhappy, grumpy, and distraught... to appreciative and feeling taken care of ! Great PC, and the non open box runs perfectly... awesome machine...the screen could be better, but for this kind of money... and this kind of POWA... the screen was something they couldn't go all out on... impressive machine!
