Fraction of a penny per page, slow but detailed

Recently several printer manufacturers have come out with models similar to this HP Smart Tank printer where you just replace the ink, instead of the full cartridge. However, this is the first one that I have seen that you still install a cartridge, just the difference is that it refills from the tanks. The cartridge looks like any other printer cartridge for the most part, with the built in printhead. So, should anything happen to print head quality, this is a part that could be user replaced. I don’t know the actual milliliter capacity of these cartridges, but you can see in the picture the comparison of the ink bottles and tell that it is going to be able to fill it up several times over. Setting up the printer does require removing some transportation parts, installing the cartridge/printheads and filling the tanks for the first time. The process is relatively mess free, as I found it messier to peel the safety seal of the bottles than anything else. The instructions are simple and you have multiple ways of connecting to this printer. One thing I have seen an issue with other printers is that they only have 2.4 GHz wireless, which can be difficult in some areas. This HP printer also has 5GHz, as well as USB, Ethernet and WiFi-Direct. You can also use other features to print such as AirPrint, Google Cloud or HP ePrint which gives you an email address to send attachments to be printed directly to the printer. By default, this feature is enabled with a ridiculously hard to remember email which can only be changed through your HP account once this printer is added to it. The directions tell you to get the HP software, drivers or app. However, I was able to print from my Android phone and computers on my network without any additional installation. Once installed, the HP Smart App on Windows 10 instantly found my printer and provided a simple interface to manage the printer. The HP Smart App on the Android phone required that I install the HP Print Service Engine, even though it worked without either apps to start with. However, the interface and options are the same as the PC app. For full feature control of the printer, the best way is to connect to it through a browser using the IP. Print quality, when set to best, is really good. I printed several photos and compared to other inkjet photos I have printed, I was amazed at how colorful and glossy they came out. The only downside of higher quality is speed, especially mixed color pages which get 3-5 pages per minute, doing color copies at 2 PPM with default settings. Scanning even seemed slow, especially if you decided to crank the DPI up. Which is maxed at 300dpi for the feeder and 1200 for flatbed scanning. Another downside to the 651, though it comes with an automatic document feeder for the scanner, does not have an automatic duplexer. So, double sided printing requires manually returning pages to the feed tray and hitting continue on the computer, not even the digital display of the printer. If you aren’t concerned with speed or duplexing, but know you print a lot, maybe a mix of photo and documents, there is no comparing a fraction of a penny per page in ink. With black claiming about 6,000 pages a bottle, compared to XL cartridges that come in at less than 1,000 and cost twice as much, it’s hard to beat. Especially when it comes to color cartridges that typically handle far less, these bottles claim up to ~8,000. I’m not going to test that theory any time soon, but with a fair amount of documents, photos and full page photos the tanks look to have barely moved.

Great looking, quality printing and convenience!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm loving this printer. Its very nice looking, the white accent is welcomed. I like that its not bulky at all, compared to other all in ones, It has a very flat low profile. Setting it up was easy, you can either use a pc downloading HP's software, or you can use their mobile app. You pour the ink containers into it, and then install the printer heads. (the box says they include ink to last for at least 2 years, so that is still to see...). Be aware though, this printer is more designed to be used via wireless out of the box, as it DOES NOT include an USB cable (nor a telephone cable for the fax function), at least those were not in my box...Those cables are so cheap, that I feel HP should have at least included them to add more convenience on how the user is going to decide to use the printer. I'm loving that to scan, you have to options, you can either feed the paper from the top tray and it will take it (kind of like the ones you will see on a big office printer), or you can open the scanner bed and scan the "old fashioned" way. Very convenient. The paper feeder is good enough, but I wish it would fit more pages, so I don't have to keep putting more pages manually, but I guess its a trade off, since the printer is so thin, considering its an all in one. It also has a fax function (and line pass through), in case its needed. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to setup a small/home office and save on ink. As the you are only replacing the ink itself (the printer heads stay on the printer), they cost way less than the old printers were you would replace the whole cartridge containing the connector, logic and ink.

HP Smart Tank Plus 651
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a ten year old HP. My main objective is photo printing. It does a very good job, so far printing photos. It stays connected wirelessly much better than the old one ever did,I also like the ink tanks over cartridges, and it so much easier to use. I am very happy with this printer.

So far, so good!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this printer for a summer camp I run and also for my therapy office. So far, it has only been used at camp. It is replacing a Lexmark printer that cost over $400 and stopped working in just over a year. So far, so good. It prints easily and wasn't too difficult to set up. I like that you can print easily from any device. Not sure about the ink. How long will it last? Only time will tell.

Happy overall
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to set up by using enclosed guide. Print and scan quality are good. Much quieter than our older HP printer. We have wireless connections to 2 laptops and an iPad and all seem to be working well. Paper enters printer from the back so it may limit placement. Would have preferred a paper tray but no issues. Our first tank printer so hope ink costs will be less overall than using cartridges.

Great home printer.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally purchased a new printer the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 All in One Inkjet. Things I like are the 6,000-8,000 pages I should get out of one full filling of the four tanks. It was easy to do and zero mess. It totally wireless an when you set it up in the beginning other printers work thru your home network to print. No real setup for each new printer working in the house. The printer is small enough to fit nicely on a desk. To run all four print options my old printer was 2x larger. This is small compare to the old one. Everything is working fine and I am very happy.

Great printer!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing does everything I need without any hiccups. I needed an office style printer that could also scan and copy and it is up to the challenge every single time I need to use it. Printing is extremely fast and efficient, and the app is serviceable. My biggest compliment is how easy it is to use wirelessly. My family is able to quickly make prints right off of their iphone to the printer without even needing me to assist, and that is worth the value alone.

Nice wireless printer
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve gone through a lot of printers over the years, but I’m really liking this one. It was very easy to connect to wireless Internet. I don’t have the best Internet and that’s been a struggle using wireless, but this one seems to be working perfectly. I’m very pleased with the overall printing as well.

All in one set up and print... thumbs up!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing and setting up the HP Smart Tank 651 Wireless All in One Printer was simple, straight forward, and easy. It comes with everything needed to get started except paper (4 ink bottles, 2 printer heads, power cord, and quick start instructions). Out of the box the printer is very nice and compact to fit on any workspace. Simply attach the power cord, fill the ink tanks, insert printer heads, follow the touch screen instructions. This was a very convenient and easy way to set up the printer, I was very impressed with set up! Once everything is in place, the printer prints out a printer alignment sheet and you place it on the scanner bed and press ok. It self-aligns and picks the best printer options for your printer. Much easier than printing the alignment sheet and having to go through several screens to pick or choose the best print setting by eye and inputting into the settings screen. The wireless setup was also easy and straight forward with the touch screen input. However, the only thing I didn’t like was the that there was not qwerty keyboard or something similar for the entering of password. It uses an old school multi tap for the letters which wasn’t difficult, just not expected for a touch screen input. Otherwise, this set up is a one stop push button setting and you’re good to go. Now the important part… the printer is quiet and fast. I printed several different test sheets varying in text, color, and photo, to compare to my old printer. The plain text sheet printed very crisp, clear, with bold blacks and even printing throughout the sheet. It was very accurate and quiet. The colored text with graphics printed at the same quality and was very nice with fast clean printing. The photo sheet I printed was very nice but when compared with the same photo printed from my older printer, you could see the color tone was a little different. Not bad, just different. It prints photos at a good pace in speed and there is little noise in the photo. It prints with a small border on the sheet on all four sides (maybe 2-3 mm). The photo sheet comes out ready to handle and does not feel still wet after printing. The colors are even throughout the photo with no bleed lines or streaks. Very worthy of hanging on the wall. This printer comes with all the features needed for the home office or business (print, scan, fax, copy) and is completely wireless minus the power plug. No complaints on any of these although I rarely use fax and did not use the fax before writing this review. The paper load I wish would have been the drawer type load just to keep a clean look but is very accessible and convenient with the rear load tray. The paper prints out is on the front with a nice paper catch for prints. The paper feed on top for copies is the traditional feed for a business-like feel. The front display for the ink tanks is awesome to keep an eye on the ink levels even though it is said you have two years’ worth of ink with the included ink bottles, time will tell. Everything about this printer is a thumbs up and works seamlessly with Wi-Fi. It has an HP app that you can download to connect your phone or tablet directly to the printer that I do not care to use since I primarily use the Wi-Fi to print and connect all my devices. It just seems easier to me to skip all the extra steps of install and memory usage for apps and add-ons. The only things I could say that aren’t 100% for me which is only minor preference opinions is the paper load tray and a very slight beeping noise that emanates during certain processes which I could not determine. But my hearing is on the sensitive side. A very good buy for the home office and I am impressed and satisfied so far.

Outstanding Printer with many features!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Smart Tank 651 Wireless Color All-In-One Printer is very compact and packed with powerful features for print, scan, and copy. This high-quality ink tank printer includes up to 2 years of ink in bottles in the box. Setup is very easy. I have connected with my desktop using the USB cable provided for the initial setup and downloaded the latest software from the HP site. I have followed the instructions to configure the printer to print over the wireless. After the software installation and configuring the printer, I was able to see this printer on a home network to print from any device. It is very convenient to print from other devices and my son is using this printer every day for his school project work and printing from his laptop as well as from his phone. This printer has built-in dual-band WiFi. This printer can print up to 11 ppm in black and 5 ppm in color. It can handle large volumes quickly at a low cost per page. It has featured with Apple Airprint enabled to print from iPad and iPhone or with free HP Smart app, HP ePrint. The copy function can support up to 99 pages and copy speed supports up to 22 cpm with resolution up to 600 dpi. Fax option features with Color Fax; Auto Reduction; Auto Redial; Speed Dial; Group Speed Dial; Junk Barrier; Forwarding (Black Only); Scan and Fax; PC Fax Send and Fax to PC with resolution up to 300x300 dpi. Scan resolution supports up to 1200x1200 dpi. The resolution of printing is superior quality and it can print up to 4800 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch) color resolution. The paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets of input capacity and 30 sheets output bin. It is easy to refill the ink tank system with spill-free, resealable bottles. The design is very good with stylus looking. I have been using Inkjet printers and cheap laser printers before and HP Smart Tank 651 Wireless Color All-In-One Printer is a huge upgrade. I am using this every day for copy, print, and scan for my personal and office work. It is one of the best printers in the market with excellent configuration. I highly recommend this printer for home and office use and now I am a big fan of HP products.

HP Smart Tank 651 Wireless All In One Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sorry for my later review, we were in the process of moving last week and had to wait for internet and everything to get connected. Finally I got everything switcher over and connected and now I can do my review. Although I'[ve only been able to use it for a couple days, the HP Smart Tank 651 Wireless All In One Printer has worked flawlessly, and fits nicely into my new home office.Inside the box comes along with the printer comes 4 bottles of ink (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), the power cord, color and black cartridges, and the power cord along with the usual setup documentation. Using the easy setup guide, it took no longer than 3 minutes to get the printer up and running. As I've tested other printers recently, I'm loving the fact that more and more companies have moved to a new way of filling and refilling these newer printers and the HP Smart Tank 651 was no exception. Simply open the front panel, flip up the tank caps for each color, peel off the seal from the bottle and simply turn it upside down so that the rubber nozzle sits on top and slides into the bottle and it practically fills it self up. Repeat that process for the rest of the color tanks, pop in the color and black cartridges, and that's it. HP claims that the ink will last up to 2 years which that basically depends on how much you printer and what how much ink you use at one time. Another feature that I love is that this printer has AirPrint which means I can print from my iPhone to the printer wirelessly as long as its on the same network. Aside from printing, Smart Tank 651 also scans and copies as well. Every page came out full of color with smooth lines and no color bleeding. Something I've noticed in other printers. This printer works a lot better than I expected being as though I had sworn off using HP products ever again, but I was very impressed by it. It fits nicely into my new home office and has printed and scanned the few things nicely since setting it up. I recommend this printer to anyone looking for a nice all in one style printer for their home office or work location.
