The "Basic" prompt disables HDMI inputs
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Towards the end of the set-up procedures you are prompted to select either a "Full" or "Basic" Experience, which supposedly controls how many apps you can access. But if you select "Basic", it also disables all the HDMI inputs. And the only way to re-enable them is to reset the TV to it's initial settings and go through the whole set-up procedure again so you can select the "Full" option. Nice TV with an Irritating Quirkiness
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV to use on the desk in my home office. It replaced an older 20” model I had. This is my first Amazon Fire TV & at first it was impressive, but I did still have to hook up my Roku to it before it would work. I like the Alexa component that makes it easy to get to the streaming channel I want, or the particular show I’m looking for on the streaming channel. However, the TV is quirky & for no discernible reason it will just cut off. It happens enough that it’s exceptionally annoying.

It’s TV
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent picture. The only downside is the FireTV software. It’s buggy and constantly updating. Annoying. I don’t even use it. I’m using another streaming device.

Works fine. Slow.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works fine. Picture is fine. Price is great. Light. Slow to turn on. Slow to respond to remote commands. Sometimes the volume is finicky. Obviously a very slow processor to reduce price. Works but need patience!

Low quality stand
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The tv is okay, but 26 months after purchasing this tv, one of the legs broke. Of course it is out of warranty. It cost $25 to replace the leg on a tv that currently only costs $80. What a rip-off.

Missing a few basic but important features
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the picture quality and the fact that I can stream a number of interesting shows/movies for free. The tradeoff appears to be in that it doesn't do traditional things, e.g., the remote control doesn't have numbers on it! So I can't just input the channel I want to watch! Weird. I don't like having to scroll through the 40 free digital channels I get to find a channel I want to watch. I also sometimes like to read the description of a show I'm watching while it is on or scroll for other shows/descriptions while watching something but this is set up to take you out of watch mode in order to do those things. Also, there's no buttons on the tv itself so if I happen to be closer to the tv than the remote, I can't adjust the volume or change channels. It's for a spare bedroom so not the worst thing in the world but I would definitely not purchase this for a room where the tv is used a lot.

Not my cup of tea
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is difficult to assign stars to this tv. I bought this television for my kitchen, for the occasional times that I might want tv while I am washing dishes or doing chores. The pros, the picture is fine, as is the audio, which I found sufficient. I got it Black Friday week for $79. But this is not so much a television as it is a Fire TV device. Here are my objections: *Takes a while to boot up. A tv simply turns on. *Defaults to Fire TV menus. There is NO way to change the default other than setting it to 'start with last selected input.' *If you want to watch actual television you have to press a button which brings up a guide. *You can only use the guide to select a channel as there are no channel buttons on the remote, only up and down channel buttons. I found all of the cons outweigh the pros and have decided to just set up my iPad with my cable provider app. I can access tv channels that way, as well as amazon prime if I want. And 9.7" vs 24" is not an issue for me as I would not want to do any serious watching on either. This tv might suit many, but it did not work for me.

Great while it works
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV has worked great and provides good picture and sound quality, but the remote control stopped working within a few weeks. The store does not carry replacement controllers so we had to go to the manufacturer. Insignia was very helpful with evaluating the failure but shipping a replacement took over a week. While they did provide an interim solution of downloading an app that works as a controller that required excellent WiFi that we don’t have here in the RV. All in all happy with the TV but disappointed that Insignia makes a product that didn’t last longer.

Good picture, poor remote.
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this primarily for the size and price. The picture is good. The remote is terrible quality and we’ve had to replace it at least twice already.

Good and Bad
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great price. Decent picture. On flaws: does not recall last input setting on power up. Reverts back to Home Screen. That’s usually optional with other brands. Second, it tries to make u use the Amazon report. Using an alternate (e.g., TiVo, xfinity), will result in a display blocking indicating TV is unable to communicate with remote. Stays up for bout 30-60 seconds. Very annoying. Not an issue if u have a Echo show and plan to use voice commands.

Great Value Small FireTV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great little TV if you have the right expectations. Wanted a full feature TV to double as second monitor on occasion. Pros: Cheap (Black Friday $79), Built in Fire TV which is the best Smart TV UI in my opinion and saves the $35 of buying a Firestick and keeps an HDMI port open. Remote is basically a Firestick remote with a few additional functions so it is super simple. Lots of connection options including HDMI ARC and USB along with audio out options including headphone jack, Optical, and Bluetooth. Even has the classic AV in and a hard ethernet port if you do not want to use WIFI. Still has built in tuner for OTA channels. Although I use a small soundbar the built in speakers are actually decent for the price. Easy to mount. Lightweight, easily supported by normal monitor arm. Cons: Only 720p, one stuck green pixel near bottom (liveable for $80 TV). Using as a second monitor occasionally and the 720p is pretty noticeable. Surprisingly deep for a modern TV (3 inches).

fair product at a fair price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good TV. Not great. Picture is fine. Sound is ok. Small spaces will be best for this item. I have it in a home office where distance isn't in issue for clarity. Minor complaints is the remote was difficult to sync when setting up. Had to goggle a solution. Seemed like a known issue for several people. Do not like that every time you power on the unit it reverts to start up screen and not to the last input setting. Don't expect too much and you'll be pleased.

Good Value TV
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A little difficult to operate with a confusing remote control. This may be because it was made for Amazon FireTV which I don't subscribe to. Picture and sound quality are excellent. Great price made it a good value. All things considered I would buy it again.

It's ok
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound and display are nice, however the actual tv is slow and tends to lag for some reason. This doesn't apply to the 2 55" insignia fire tvs i own. I can only recommend you use it directly plugged into router to help with lag. Other than that it works just fine, seems to lag or slow when using wifi, yes it still connects and works.

Decent, great price, mediocre-to-awful Fire TV OS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for $99 to replace my parents' age-old CRT that has been in their kitchen since forever ago. One thing the CRT has going for it is longevity. But I thought they might enjoy a more advanced TV, with the ability to watch Netflix and Hulu around the dinner table. But I may have overshot here, as my parents are both elderly and don't really want new technology to learn, especially as frustratingly complex as Fire TV is. Roku has definitely nailed down the smart TV OS, and they are used to that interface. This new Fire TV is different, but also maddeningly complicated. Voice remote? Check! This is one of the nice things about this TV, and why it gets most of its 3-star rating. My parents have a couple of Amazon Echo devices, and this nearly seamlessly joined into this ecosystem and we were able to turn it on and off using the Alexa voice commands. Having the ability to start, pause, and turn off the TV by voice marvels my parents, and they love it. Alexa is unfortunately fairly bad at figuring out what you want; worse than Siri and WELL behind what Google's Assistant can do. "Hey Google, turn on closed captions" and whatever streaming app is playing will enable closed captions. With Fire TV? No such luck. So you have to go wading into the needlessly complicated menu structure just to find out how to enable/disable closed captions. This ALMOST made me take the TV back for a refund, because my dad is hard of hearing and the ability to quickly enable/disable CC is critical. Fire TV makes this very convoluted, jumping through various different menus depending on what you are watching. Hooking up an XFinity DTA box amazingly does not support CC via HDMI. I'm not sure if this is Comcast or Insignia/Amazon's fault, but it's embarrassing when their old CRT TV would do this with a button on the remote control. The picture quality is decent at 720p and for the price point, it's nothing to complain about. Audio is thankfully quite loud and clear, which is an improvement over the old CRT we replaced. Overall, for $99, I am somewhat satisfied. I would be happier if Fire TV could enable/disable CC using a voice command (seriously, how is this not a thing?!). I think this would be better suited for a younger audience, maybe for a dorm room or spare bedroom, but look elsewhere if your parents don't want to learn a whole new approach to watching TV.

Remote doesn’t work
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV is great for a guest room. Picture and sound are good quality. The only problem with it is that the remote only works half of the time. Will probably return it for that reason but would prefer they just send a new remote.

Excellent open box? no
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Missing remote and stand. Tv looks to work fine but i cannot get past pairing the remote seeing as it didn't come with one. This doesn't deserve an "open box excellent"
