Needs more R&D, and an update

It works good. I plug the USB receiver in the back without issue. All my USB ports are used now since I have a USB data drive and controller plugged in as well. That’s just something to think about. You have to press the buttons fast, or should I say briefly, or else it’ll type the letter multiple times. This thing needs a software update to where it won’t have “sticky keys.” You will have to adjust how you type in order to use this correctly. It’s really crappy for this fact. The other issue is that the lower area, where you would usually place your palms, ring finger, and pinky finger, is obstructed by the chat pad. It’s a bit uncomfortable, but after a full day, I’m pretty used to it. Your ring and pinky finger won’t have room to fully grasp the controller, so they will be sort of hanging out. However, this probably beats the millions of other made in China chatpads sold on Amazon. I’d choose Insignia over those generic brands any day. We have no other name brand options other than Insignia.

Very good game-pad add-on! The right price. Glowing green keys for dimmer lit rooms. Just a solid product. Makes chatting without headphones ( I like my sound system better ) much easier. There is a pass-through option if you want wired headphones on as well.

Great product. I love the green color as it's very "Xbox". My only gripe is the requirement for the USB dongle, but that may be more of a controller design issue forcing it to be required for a product like this to work, unlike the keyboards on older systems. Easy to set up, works right out of the box!

I got the chat pad to sync up with the receiver and connect to the controller relatively easily. It works as advertised and the backlit keyboard is a nice addition. One thing I wish it had though is arrow buttons, it would've been nice to be able to move around the Xbox UI using this keyboard.

First off, I’m a software engineer. That being said, I had a difficult time getting this to pair. Took over an hour of re-pairing to finally pair. Next, the buttons don’t always work. The wireless range is about 3ft. If you, for instance, bend your knees and play with your controller behind them, the signal will not pass, even at 3ft. There can be zero obstructions anywhere or it will unpair. It works if you’re just wanting to be able to type from a controller, just don’t go in with high expectations.

I bought two of these on sale for $10. At that price its a good buy, not so much at $20. Here are the pros. The backlight is a nice xbox green, very uniform, no bleeding around the keys. The keys feel good to press. The light turns off after a while after not pressing any keys. Looks really good with my velocity green xbox series x controller. The cons. This comes with a usb receiver, so depending on what you have plugged into your xbox's usb ports already, you may need to either unplug something else or get a usb expansion. Another con is the way the bottom lip forms around the controller. Its not a perfect fit, which allows the keyboard to move slightly away from the controller up and down, not side by side. Its not very noticeable but if I had paid $20 I would *maybe* return it. Also, its probably obvious but this accessory makes holding the grips of the controller harder, where your pinkies may normally be. For mmos or for those who do a lot of key inputs, this is great. If you watch netflix or stream stuff via your xbox this is a great accessory. I use my built in tv apps and remote to stream netflix, etc. For someone like me who bought these for nostalgia from the xbox 360 days, it will probably be left to collect dust in a drawer.

There was a time when I couldn't use an Xbox controller without the chatpad attached. It just felt right. It added so much functionality and made communication easy. Then Xbox went and got rid of the peripheral, opening up the market to these cheap knockoffs that are of lesser quality. They type well enough but lack the firmness of the original's buttons. These buttons are mushy. I can get beyond that, but the real problem is that USB dongle. Since these chatpads connect via that dongle and not over the Xbox's proprietary wireless protocol, they are prone to disconnects. I can deal with a substandard typing experience, but not being able to type at all is a problem. So, use it if you must. But I suggest you just get a wireless keyboard instead. Also, I find that they don't fit on the Xbox Series controllers all that well. Xbox One controllers are fine though.

    Not for Charging Docks

Good product for a reasonable price. There are some issues to be aware before purchasing. The extra surface area when attached prevents seating in either of my PowerA through-door charging docks. The fit to controller allows a tiny bit of wiggle to lower corners of either side. The USB dongle had an excessively tight fit to my Series X console front port. The keypad may pick up duplicated letters if you press even a tiny bit longer than necessary. The passthrough connector for headset acts like headset is attached (and forces stereo audio) even if no headset being used. Imperfect, but a cool affordable gadget for most Xbox controller models (NOT Elite).

Overall its a great keyboard that fits well onto the controller. It lights up at night which is a big help. The keys are a bit small but not a deal breaker. I wouldn't recommend playing any games with it on as it will get in the way of the whole hand grip, but it comes on and off easily which helps that transition. The only downside for me is that it's missing a few keys like the underscore symbol. Thats why I gave it a 4 out of 5 star.
